[Q] Galaxy S 2 Signals Problem - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My galaxy S2 is dropping network signals. Where my S1 shows 4 signal-bars, S2 shows 1 or 0 bars for the same network. But when I start using my phone, it goes till 3 or even 4 bars. In sleep mode it doesn't catch any signals. That mean I cannot receive any calls/sms when my phone is locked.
When I take out my phone and unlock and start using it, it suddenly get a few signals and starts receiving pending sms.
I heard somewhere it could be a problem with my custom ROM. So, I've upgraded to Stock ROM version 4.0.4. But the problem is still there. Can anyone please help me fix this issue?
Thanks
Adil

The same problems I have. Lose signal network, and must reboot phone.

Sounds like hardware problem.
Try changing kernel and/or modem.

Sorry for having very basic knowledge of Android. By changing kernel do you mean to try flashing some other ROM?
Previously I downloaded the ROM from: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=GT-I9100&pcode=OXA&os=1&type=1#firmware (I downloaded CSC: I9100OXALQB)
If you mean to change the ROM, can you please suggest me any other ROM?
Thanks
Adil

The forum is useful. People helping you out aren't doing it for any commercial gain. They look around in their free time and help you solving your problems.
He said you may need to change your modem. Not your ROM. The best modem for you generally depends on your region. So search this forum for a thread detailing the modems for various regions, download the relevant one and flash it.

That's really an unnecessary comment.
With that being said, have you changed your modem recently or at all?

I did that comment because I've posted two problems and got no response. It seems no one looks at the questions at all.
I am not sure what you mean by modem. I bought this phone from KSA and I flashed a Poland ROM into it.
Do you think that would have changed the modem?

Yes it would have changed the modem. There is a modem thread here on XDA, find it and use Odin to flash them.

OK, can you please let me know how would I know that which ROM will suit my phone?
Do I have to keep flashing ROMs and see the results? Or is there some code in the ROM filename that can tell me that the ROM is good for the phones released in KSA ?

Just flash the modem no need to install an entire rom just for signal issue as far as "suit my phone" u have to try different roms for that i suggest you should read a few threads on the site

I tried flashing Poland, UAE and PAK ROMs. But nothing worked. I still have the worst signal strength

[Q] Galaxy S2 Modem

Hi.
Im having a little problem here.
If I want to flash a modem, do I have to find the same modem version as my firmware version?
As in, if my firmware version is XXKL3, do I have to find a modem which is XXKL3 so that they will be compatible or something.
Help will be greatly appreciated! Cheers!
As far as I'm aware, you can flash any sgs2 modem you like. Mine doesn't match my firmware.
Edit: in fact, there's a list of flashable modems thread around somewhere.

Can modems be flashed on any kind of kernels? CF-Root, CM7 ?
Are modems made for different regions and carriers? For example I'm in Czech Republic on O2 ? What should be best ?
Yes. Modems are independent of kernel or rom.
Some modems do tend to work best with different carriers/networks, there are two ways you can find a modem that works well with your carrier/its network:-
1) Flash a bunch of modems until you find one that works well
2) Do a Google search & append XDA to your search terms; for example, SGS2 XDA modem Czech Republic. Use your imagination with the search terms.
Having said that, if the modem you're currently using gives you good connectivity/data speeds with the rom/kernel you're using at all locations/at all times of day (to rule out any problems that could possibly be caused by congestion on your carrier's network, etc), there's no need to go changing modems.
You only need to do so if you're having those consistent problems I mentioned.
Hi,
Will ask here:
What are currently most up to date and best modems? Ok I know there is no best modem but what are current modems that are giving best results for most users and otherwise behaving good in mean of performance and battery life?
Now I have xxkl1. Any better?

[Q] Signal Quality on S3

Hi there, im using S3 and ive been curious about the signal quality (network / call) most of the time i see that I'm on "For Emergency Calls Only" on my notification. I didn't have this one when I was using HTC Desire.
I also tried to compare the signal side by side with HTC Desire and S3... It seems that S3 most of the time it shows "For Emergency Calls Only".
Any one here have the same experience?
Additional Note:
- I notice disabling Power Saving Mode makes my cellular/network signal stable at least (good for 2-3 days before going to "Emergency Calls Only"
- There are times that people cannot call/text (or delayed text messages) me. Even in Power Saving Mode Disabled.
- I have a stable Mobile Data/Internet connection, but people says that my cellphone is unreachable, but im connected on Mobile Data./Internet. Text Messages are received after turning off Mobile Data (all of them are delayed)
I hope someone could help me.

Change modem version

So... i'm having a few problems with the 3G/HDSPA signal on my GS3. I flashed to like 6 different ROMs and all of them have TERRIBLE connection performance. It only works well when I flash to the stock firmware (CSC I9300UVCALE4).
Is this possible or am I tripping? Second, can I use the ROM I want and just change the CSC to that one?
Thanks
Yes you can.

I know of that method, but, will it work with a custom ROM? I mean, it probably has like 1 CSC.
My CSC will not be there.
Haven't tried because the phone is charging, but it doesn't seem logic to me...
Anyways, will do a search in the forums. Thanks.

I saw that many custom ROMs include an even larger list of CSCs than the stock SAM ROM but please correct if I am wrong.
Usually it should at least include the CSCs of that specific region.
You could try and just go into that menu and check what CSCs are included in yours.

sim signal problem showing no service

My czn galaxy s2 is working perfectly has xwlpd 4.03 except he detects sim but shows no service for sim...
plzzz help me...
i will be very thankful to u.........
Hi!
Since you are new here, it might be the best time for you to read the forum rules just to get you informed.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?a=81 check it out!
1. try inserting your sim in another phone, if you find a signal in the other phone, then there might be something wrong with the s2..
if there is still no signal, then it is a network related problem and call your network operator
2. if you find a signal in the other phone and not in your s2, then you must flash a modem..
DEFINITION:
*Modem/Radio/Baseband is all the same thing and can be seen by going to Settings - About Phone - Baseband. It's basically a driver which receives and sends Mobile Network signals as well as handling switching between GPRS, 3G, HSDPA etc....... (but not WiFi connection, that and switchover between Mobile Network and WiFi is handled by the kernel). Reasoning as to why Modem has no influence on WiFi can be found in this post by Entropy - http://<b>http://forum.xda-developer...count=6556</b>
USAGE:
*There is no one "Best" modem for everybody. Unfortunately you actually have to try to find the modem which works perfectly for you on performance, strength and battery drain levels. The good thing is that from my lengthy 8 month experience with Galaxy S2, I'm happy to report that there are a few modems that seem to perform well geographically for most users. These modems are KE7, KH3, KI3, KI4, KL1, LPS, NEKF2, NELP2 & NELP3.
COMPATIBILITY:
*Modems do not need to be matched up with firmware like it's done with ROMs and Kernels. For example, a KI4 modem can be used with a KL1 ROM and the other way round. The only thing you need to pay attention to is what model your SGS2 is. 9100 and 9100 modems are compatible across both models. However, 9100 model and US variants are not cross compatible since the devices are designed to work on different bands.
INSTALLATION:
*I will add a flashing guide to post number 5 soon, hence why it says "Work in progress.....". For the moment I suggest asking Mr. Google to do a search for you. Bottom line is, for CWM packaged modems you need to be rooted and have a working CWM recovery (flash the CWM modem zip within recovery). For .TAR packages, all you need to do is flash it while your device is in Download Mode and connected to ODIN. The .TAR file should be selected in the PHONE field. Don't touch anything else.

You have to try each modem to suite you. For example, lp1 works great with me until last night it broken and my simcard not detect, now I'm using ls6. Some people suggest to try kh3 and dvl. But honestly, you better flash your self to see the result. Here I give you link to our beloved member's host site. You can find his collections of modems. And my suggestion, you might want to install GetRIL from play store as well.

If your phone is rooted and you have a custom recovery, shut down your phone, hold the power + home + volume up buttons to boot into recovery. Flash your modem through recovery.
