I have tried to find any information about this but to no avail.. My issue is that when use Google Maps Navigation when driving the Maps will crash in a way where the whole map screen vibrates as if its not able to recognise my position and obviously its impossible to tell when i should be turning next. I have Stock ICS XXBLH3 Firmware rooted with latest Maps update and Maps Beta Navigation and Siyah Kernel

Because the data load to display the maps is huge! Take into consideration you are on data connection, jumping between cell towers.....it's a foregone conclusion that it can't keep up
---------- Post added at 10:40 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:35 AM ----------
it might be possible to work around this by pre-cacheing the route at home on Wi-Fi, never tried it but it might work
Although I don't have an answer, this also happens to me. I can use satellite view, and if the data collection slows down I get missing tiles. However the fault I think being described is that the screen starts to vibrate rapidly, flashing between two views and the only solution is to close maps from task manager and restart.
This does it on normal map view too (not satellite), and had only happened since JB update.

Since last week, shortly after the Kies update to 4.0.3, my phone (or should I say certain apps?) has become convinced that I'm in Karachi, Pakistan, and not my actual location in Cambridge, England.
I've tried uninstalling/resinstalling apps, and gone as far as to perform factory resets, format the external SD card, wipe the sytem, dalvik, cache, and data (several times), and I'm now running the stock rom I downloaded from samfirmware (I9100XWLP7_I9100XEULP5_XEU).
I've also tried the latest versions of the T-Mobile rom, Slim ICS, and CM9.
I've tried using GPS Status to clear clear my GPS cache data, and that doesn't help at all.
Google maps recognises the correct location after 'bouncing' me to Pakistan, as does Accuweather most of the time. However, others such as Hootsuite, Beautiful Widgets, Quidco, and Weather Bug all go straight to a location in Karachi without the GPS indicator in the notification bar flashing.
Any ideas on what the problem could be?
Your phone clearly thinks your in a different region, try this and set it to uk, report back if it works. Read the reviews first, sounds like it wipes data. Or try finding a similar app to alter your CSC Settings

Thanks for you reply.
Sadly, that app didn't work. In the Preconfig section, XEU is already typed in, and when I click on install, I get a message telling me that it needs 3 characters. I'm unable to edit any test.
I've now tried changing the CSC manually using the *#272*IMEI# method, and that doesn't work either. Looking at screenshots (which I'm not allowed to link until I have 8 posts), there should be a check box list, but I'm not seeing any of that.
Interesting, try updating your PRL by dialing *228

Without data, my phone locks on find in Google maps. Takes a bit longer though, which I'd expect.
I will try turning the gps tomorrow when I head out of town to see if that helps, but I've covered everything else mentioned in that thread.
Incidentally, my phone thinks I'm at the Nazimabad General Post Office located at 24°54'27"N 67°1'34"E.
Really do appreciate your help on this.
Haha dam funny... I know might be frustrating, stock ROM never say Karachi to me, I had to set it manually.

Nope, as my phone has never been rooted.
I have no problems with my IMEI, making calls, or any other connectivity issues. The only problem is with geolocation and certain apps.
I've now installed a couple of other 'map' programs (Osmand and c:geo) and they both think I'm in Karachi.
So far, every app I've tried thinks I'm in Karachi with the exception of Google Maps and Accuweather. Any idea why they would be different?
now make a efs backup hmm use helkats tool but u need to b rooted afta tht set ur date time etc correct an go in efs folder an delete nv data.bin ,nv data.bin md5 an reboot ......for me i hav done this num of times on sgs1 an aoto ur new files r restored ,thts the way its supposed to b...so good luck man

just try flashing a different modem thro odin and see
Thanks for all your help guys.
I've now tried deleting/restoring the efs folder and I've tried 6 different modems so far with varying success. The best being XXLPQ, which allows the Quidco app to correctly identify my location about a quarter of the time.
The thing that strikes me as being odd is that it always gives me the same location in Karachi (within 5m 0% precision, 100% accuracy), regardless of my real-life movements and that must but relevant somehow. I'm a biologist, not a software engineer, so if anyone could explain how this could be, I'd be very grateful.

If your GPS shows the wrong location, then use gps fixer from market and try changing the region to your nearest location.

I've tried a few of those type apps; can't see one called gps fixer though.
I don't think the problem has anything to do with the GPS itself, as when data/wifi is off, I have no problems. It's only when I have the 'let apps use wifi to determine your location' box checked that it all goes wrong.

I tried that when you suggested it earlier
I was in Antibes, France last year, but all relevant apps stubbornly insisted that I was in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Only got it fixed once I got home after the fullest, cleanest wipe this side of my boy's nappy change.
No idea what/why/how/inasmuchaswhich. Was in Guadalajara in 1986, but pretty sure my phone didn't know that.
Not very helpful, I know. JOOTT.

Hey when ever i say something to S-voice and I ask it to search the web. I get taken to "google Custom search" and for some reason I cant change it . Its not like it on the normal web browser only with s-voice. any help please thanks. And the google "custom search" comes up with some pretty crappy results no matter what I type.

I think I might know how it happened I accidentally Clicked an Ad for something called battery optimiser on the browser of my device it downloaded it but I did not install it..could this be the problem?? Thanks for any suggestions. I have also run many anti-virus apps but all have said my device is clear.
Hm, open your browser settings and see what it says under default search engine.

Hi yes its Google.com for my browser but it seems to change with s-voice for some reason.
Is there a fix for this?
Did anyone ever find a fix for this? Whenever S Voice has to do a web search, it takes me to a google.com/cse?cx=partner-pub-53243887287072696qccq-17aj&q=suspects#gsc.tab=0&gsc.q=suspects&gsc.page=1
The search in this case was for "suspects".
I've recently rooted, but I'm still running the stock ROM (my phone is just rooted)
I've tried clearing the S Voice data and every other search runs fine (Google Voice search, for example). While the S Voice search is not a serious problem, I fear that this may be a symptom of something much deeper. For example, today my clock was several hours off. When it was about 2:30pm , my clock said 1:30am. Don't know if they are related. Just thought I'd throw that in.
All virus scans (Lookout, Avast, AirPush Detector, ect) came up clear.

Hello all,
I've tried searching for this but found no result.
I have owned in the past a samsung i9300 and have now upgraded to the i9305.
They were both running stock samsung roms, tipically the TPH 4.1.2 for UK. Only mod so far is root.
I have had some trouble with location based apps such as foursquare. The app works fine and is able to find my location using wi-fi/3G data. Although, after a few hours/couple days I get an error saying "your connection is wonky" and then shows me the venues of the past location. Whatever I do the location only comes back after a device reboot.
I have found this happen only when I have the "economic" mode on. But turning it off after the error appears still doesn't solve, it must off since the reboot. This happened on both devices and the most awkward thing is that Google Maps shows my exact location when foursquare is unable to do that. I know it is not a problem related to the 4SQ servers, as I have found this to happen on other samsung devices.
Anyone knows what this is about?
Thank you

But as stated above, whenever this happens G Maps works just fine.

Phone settings: Location : Battery Saving (GPS off, using Wifi/network location only)
On Google Play Services 4.0.x - I get very accurate location small circle around where my house is.
After updating to 4.2.25 - I get a large circle - maybe the radius of an entire block / surface area of a cell tower coverage roughly
Uninstall the update to play services (back to 4.0.x) - get very accurate location again.
I am using a RAZR HD with 4.4.2 kit kat thanks to CM11.
Is there a way to resolve this issue? Did play services update broke my specific phone?
I would stay on the older Play Services but Hangouts and Maps keep *****ing about needing to update it.

Here is one, look at the last posts:
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=57707
I've read more about it elsewhere, but as not everyone uses only network but mostly the more precise GPS for location purposes, most people probably won't even notice the problem exists [emoji6]

Same issue here. Network location appears to work (very low accuracy), but WiFi location doesn't. If Play Services update is uninstalled WiFi location works again.
It's a pain in the ass to use aviate or cover whitout network location working properly.

Hey guys, im on stock 4.1.2 and I cannot seem to use GPS. I already tried quite everything I've read Internet; my problem is that it cannot even find quite any satellite, and of course it's not locking and therefore finding my position
Is there anything I can do?
I'm gonna move in some months to a whole different state, so I'll need to know where to go ?

download Faster GPS
Start the program and choose you locations to select a NTP Server matching your region.
download GPS Status from Google play
and instal. Go to tools and choose Manage A-GPS state __reset
That's all you should get GPS satellites in a seconds
Good luck
Which " GPS Status" should be installed ? There's many on play store . Thanks.
