I'm not sure that I've seen it fail to charge. But I have seen some oddities with each CM10 ROM I tried.
What I do is plug it in while the tab is asleep (The LED is usually green). Normally the tablet will wake and the LED will turn amber. Then I press the power button to put it back to sleep.
I say "normally" because with one ROM it doesn't wake when I connect the charger.
By "oddities" I mean I think the battery stats are getting wacked, but I haven't been able to isolate it, yet.

While the power is on with mine, the charging light is green no matter how low the battery.
When I turn off the power the light turns orange & the battery charges.
My nook tablet also will not charger after a completely clean install of the 12/10 ROM. It shows that it's charging, and the cable is orange, but it doesn't actually do anything unless I power it down completely after plugging it in. Also, the n button doesn't take me to the screen set as default home screen, but to screen 1 instead, all the way over to the left, but installed app icons are installed to the correct screen.
The no charging thing is a big deal for me. It makes this ROM basically useless since I can't use it while it's charging. That means you can forget about heavy use. Everything else about it is awesome but once it's dead I'm stuck reading books on my phone while I wait hours for it to recharge.

Not sure what caused it, but last night I accidentally shut my nook tablet down before plugging it in, which made it come back on, then I shut it down again. Since waking it this morning, it is plugging in and charging as intended. No idea why, but it does indeed seem to be working fine now, other than the previously mentioned home screen issue.
Try a new cable.

Between my kids and me totaling two cables already. I ended up duct taping around the 3rd cable so that it would fill the gap between the surface of the table and plug which made it more solid. I cut of square so to see the nook charging led. I would try plugin in from in store cable or someone else that has a nook if it would eliminate that as a possibility.

i am having a similar issue, but my cable's led is always green no matter if the tablet is on or off. already tried a different cable and the same issue. also tried a different ac adapter, still the same thing. i wonder why.... any ideas?
UPDATE: tablet does charge just fine when it is off, however the LED is still green while the tablet is off. Weird... hard to say if its software or hardware issue now...

I have a (3 day old) Archos 101 and updated to the most recent software when it I first powered up the device. I probably drained my battery yesterday when I put it in the night stand drawer while Aldiko was trying to import a fresh ePub file..
When I turned it on this morning, it blinked once and stopped. When I plugged in the charger (figuring the battery was drained) the "blink blink longpause" started. Long pressing the power button stops the blinking. If the power is connected, the power light burns, so I figure its charging. If its not on power, the power light doesnt burn. I tried the "Hold + while powering up" to boot into recovery but that doesnt change anything.
The Archos FAQ said something about charging the battery, but its been charging for about 9 hours now and the device still wont turn on.. (Green light still burns continuously while charging, not when disconnected) My XDA forums search didnt turn up any results..
Anyone got a clue what this means, what I can do or whatever? Tnx
Maybe the screen froze. Try resetting it by holding down the power button for ten seconds or so. If you're charging it at the same time, it should boot right back up after the reset is complete.

Yes, I tried that :/ That's what I meant by long pressing the power button. It changes the blinking pattern to just the burning power led..

Give it another shot. Disconnect the plug. Hold down the power button for a little over 10 seconds. I would do like 15 in my head. Wait a few seconds after that and press the power button quickly once. If you get the steady green light just wait. Dont keep pressing it. You should eventually see the Archos splashscreen. I have had this happen on several occassions when the system has been idle for a while with the screen off. Hope it works.

Except that when I push the power button that last time to have it boot up; the power light just flashes once. I didnt touch it to be sure and it doesnt start.
When I plugged in the power supply after that, the *blink blink longpause* resumed.
When I hold down the power btn now, it reverts to continuous burning green power led.
Its been charging for more than 24 hours now.
This sounds like what happened to mine. it happened after about 3 days, too. I finally got my replacement the Tuesday before Christmas.

For several days my Archos wouldn't take a charge. I didn't think anything about it the first day...stuff happens. After using it the next time, not really thinking there was a problem I plugged it in (and of course it turned itself on again). So this morning it only had 8%. I messed around a few minutes before work resetting it & such - checked setting>about>battery stats and it said "charging" and 0% battery. When I came home this evening it still said "charging" & 0% battery. It then shut down (with a not-normal screen flicker) the first time I unplugged it (hoping to cycle it or get lucky) and it is now a brick. When I plug it in now the charging light did a fast-double-blink and it it remained dead.
I called Archos & they told me to send it back. She didn't ask for much info before telling me to send it, which I took to mean that it is a known issue.
Same happened to me
The same has happened to me after the archos 101 drained its battery fully. I think the firmware has a flaw where it lets the archos drain its battery too far. In that state, hooking it up to the charger wont make it start charging all the time.
I had the blink-blink-blink problem also, even after it had been on the charger for hours. Finally it started working (and charging! )again after lots of 15-second Powerbutton presses, some in combination with Volume Up or Volume Down, and some with and some without the charger connected. Suddenly it turned on (showing 0% charge in the Settings, Information panel indicating it had fully drained and hadn't been charging in the previous hours) . I advice you to keep trying pressing the Power button 15 seconds with the charger connected, and experiment with pressing it in combination with the volume button, followed by a short Power press to boor the Archos.
In the mean time (till a new firmware comes), i make a habit of not fully draining the Archos (i will install Tasker to let it shutdown at 10%) , and checking if the green led comes on after plugging in the charger. Only when the green led is on, it's really charging. And it should start blinking after a few hours to indicate its full.
My wife has a chinese android iPad clone (a Flytouch II) and guess what? It's also picky at charging and turning on.

I plugged it in, put a movie on and started trying to reset/start it. It happened reasonably quickly after that.. I pressed the power button while it was off power, the power led flashed once as before. I plugged in the power. The green light lighted up. I pushed the power and + for 15 seconds, and pressed the power button once shortly. Unlike the other times, the blinking pattern didnt start and the green light kept burning. Hopeful, I put it down and waited - as the FAQ said it would start when it d charged more. Finally after a while, I pressed the power button and it booted. Not exactly exact science, but Im just happy that it works again :/
I guess the "blink blink longpause" means something like "I know I've got power but I cant seem to load my battery" - Archos should have this info in their manuals.

I tried everything I could think of to get it to take a charge, with no luck. The problem I had with mine was the times it wouldn't take a charge BEFORE I had drained it - that is why it got drained in the first place.
I hope it was only mine!

Same thing was happening to me too. Dunno if this will work for people, but here is how I fixed mine.
Hold your finger on the power button for 10 seconds while the blinky light is on. This should stop the light completely.
Then plug the charger in. This gave me a continuous light rather than a blinky light. Leave it like that for a couple of hours and then try powering it on again.
Hope this works for others.
Had this happen to me once so far. Seems to have to do with it going into a sleep state or something. If I leave it for long and the screen turns off. Sometimes it won't come back up without first holding down the power to shut it down (even though I can't see anything on the screen) and then waiting to boot back up. I had to plug it in, get the steady light and then power on and it worked.

I had an identical problem a short while ago, and a forum post suggested that the tablet could be too cold. I thought it was a total shot in the dark, but I wrapped the Archos in a quilt for a few minutes, and amazingly enough, it popped back into life with the charger plugged in, and has been pretty fine since then.
To be fair, it could be one of three things: (i) temperature is the issue, (ii) coincidence, (iii) a bad connection in the pins/socket of the adapter input on the Archos 101 which just needs 'jiggling.'
I have also noticed that if I charge the Archos while it is in standby, I never get more than 92-94% battery. If I shut it down, plug in, then shut it down again when it restarts on power supply insertion, I can usually get 98% battery, at the least, sometimes 100% battery.
I agree, we shouldn't have 'quirky' devices, or have to wait for firmware to fix them, but other device makers have had similar problems in the past with battery reporting, until appropriate firmware fixes.
it happened to me last night frustrated the heck out of me couldn't get it to turn on no matter what i did, so i took it back to pc world and the guy said
"what would you like to do, out of curiosity do you like it?" I replied no and he said "then ill refund you"
i then paid the extra on a galaxy tab and not looking back the archos was a complete pile of sh!te! I almost cried when i turned it on and spent the next two months convincing myself i actually liked it.
its woefully made, cheap and tacky, screen is pathetic and the memory appalling.
i know its cheaper than tab and iphone but for 270 it should still be fit for purpose and this is not it's the worst gadget ive ever owned by a long long shot, i didn't even show it off at work because i was so embarrassed at how bad it was.

HERE is the FIX ! I am on my second A-70/250 - my wife has the 8gb version, and I thought the 250gb one was simply defective - evidently, this IS a known issue, but it can be fixed, and I sent back my other one without reason
Anyways, no more pity party for me, here is the fix - if you have the flashy-power light dealio going on, plug your Archos into the power adapter, plug the adapter into the wall, and plug in the USB CABLE to the Archos, and to your PC - the Archos WILL pwoer up, when it does, it asks if you wish to mount the USB to copy files, select, "YES" and let it sit and charge ! Now - the REASON it does this is VERY simple, and it kills me to admit that I was killing my tablet all by myself ! Disable the "never off" screen thingy - set it for 10 minutes - (settings - display - screen timeout). Go into your power settings as well - (settings - power management) and make sure there is a checkmark in the deep sleep area ! THAT IS IT ! You are fixed ! Dang... I REALLY wish I would have found all this out before I returned the other one - I had SO much stuff loaded on it ! GAH !! - SenKat !
I got the same problem yesterday, it kept blink blink and could not turn on. After 5 hour charging, I warmed it up by hair dryer and suddenly it's on. Crazy amazing! Hahahahahuahuahuahua.
Temperature is main problem. Try with your hair dryer!!! Heheheheheh
Its sounds unbelievable, but low temperatures are indeed a cause.

my a70 had this same problem, left it rest a whole night, then plugged it in to usb and power (usb 1st) and it booted up, hope this helped
So I took the prime of its box, plugged it into the wall and tried turning it on. When I did, the Android battery indicator screen showed up. The battery was in the red, about a quarter the way up. I've since called Asus about the issue, and they told me to charge it for about an hour. I've done that, and still it doesn't work. It still boots into the same screen. It won't even go into recovery if I hold volume- and power for 10 seconds, just back to the battery screen. I feel like maybe I'M doing something wrong here. Any ideas, guys?

it's gotta charge. mine did that too and i was freaking out. apparently not all tablets are charged. It took about 10 minutes to finally get it to boot up.
If you charge it and it still doesnt...then it might be time to ..worry
I'm only worried because it's been charging for an hour and still just goes to the battery screen, shutting off immediately after. I'll let it charge for a few hours and if it still doesn't work I'll just have to call Asus.
Whoa sorry to hear this.When i plugged mine in it started booting up & went to the home screen.It had 21% battery left on it.So i shut it down & letting it charge the full 8 hours that's recommended before even using the device.I hope yours works.

It's not coming on. When I plug the tablet in, it recognizes that it's plugged in and vibrates, tries to turn onamd fails.
Make sure it is plugged in all the way in the tablet.. and then wait a bit. you must use the wall charger.
It has been plugged all the way into the tablet with the wall charger :-/
Dang! Sorry to hear this. if it doesn't come on within the hour id say just exchange it. it might bea faculty unit. it should have enough juice to boot up by now considering if you charging it properly. Good luck. wish it was working for you because this is a great device.
I am having the same problem too when I first plugged it in the battery indicator screen came on real fast and turned off the orange charging light came on and turned off.I tried plugging into the computer it does nothing diffrent.I think it might bricked.
okay. i just got my primetoday, same deal. it doesn't start, tried to reset, etc. i finally charged it for a while, after a while, it finally boots. at that point it was at the 15% battery life mark.
seems a bit odd.... i would wait and see.. if its game stop they would of had games installed on it.

I tested the charger on my phone and it worked. I plugged into the tablet and pressed the power button the led came on and blinked and turned off quickly.I think the battery needs a good charge.
I had to charge mine until the battery indicator was green before it would turn on. Said in the manual to fully charge before using for the first time... so maybe it doesn't let you start up until charged?
Well after 3 hours of charging it finaly started up but the battery level was low 3% showing that tells me the battery had no charge in it.Well I am happy that it is working and hopefully no other problems show up.

So last night before I went to sleep, my NT had about 40% battery life left in it. I'm currently running the final alpha build of CM7. I've been experiencing really bad wifi loss issues and have kept the 'Never' option enabled under the wifi sleep policy (thinking that would help hold the connection).
I woke up to find the NT was turned off. Figured that was odd as I was only asleep for about 5hrs. I turned it on and then noticed it got into the OS and then died. I did see the battery icon was red briefly.
I then plugged it into the wall and it was boot looping. I saw the 'n' logo pop up, screen went black, 'n' logo, etc. etc.
After numerous attempts of holding down the power button for 20+ seconds, holding power+vol down for 10 seconds, plugging it with or without an sd card into the wall and computer, nothing is happening.
The computer does see something as I'm hearing the common connected/disconnected tone from the USB port. Now I'm noticing that plugged into the wall, the 'n' on the cable stays orange. It never turns green.
Did it go 'poof' in the night somehow?
[EDIT] Ok after leaving it plugged into the wall for about 15mins, it suddenly turned on but had a google framework FC error. Yeah, not sure what I should do at this point. It appears to be charging...
It's been noted by others that if the power level goes below 15% you mustn't turn the device off if you don't have the original charger nearby. If it dies you need to charge it with the original charger for a bit before it'll power back up.
I assume this means that you can't run it off the cable while you've got a completely dead battery. That kind of stinks but isn't too surprising, a lot of devices are like that.
So does that mean that if the device is <40% of battery I need to plug it in if I won't be around it for a while? Not sure I'm cool with that. Battery life was great all day yesterday but somehow it dropped 40% in under 5hrs while asleep.
I can't really say much as I haven't dealt with it personally. People were talking about it in a couple threads about the NT's charger and unique 12 pin cable.
Here's what I understand from what I've read:
You can run it until it's empty all you like. You'll just need to use the Nook's factory charger (or a compatible 2A charger with bridged D- and D+ pins) AND (this is the important one) the factory USB cable to charge it.
If you run it until it dies you have to charge it for a little while before it'll turn on again, BUT you have to use the original cord and charger. It won't charge off of a regular micro USB cable nor will it work if you're using a 2A or smaller charger that doesn't have the middle two pins bridges (the Apple UBS chargers won't work nor will your PC's USB ports, for example).
The NT will charge, albeit slowly, if connected with a third party cable or USB charger (without the data lines D- and D+ bridged), but not if the device's power has been depleted.
So I suspect something sucked up a lot of juice while you weren't using your NT. Not a huge deal, but definitely annoying. Plug it in for 15 minutes and you can get rolling again.... BUT only if you're using the original charger and cable. Lovely isn't it? It's not a huge problem but it is annoying. I wish you could at least use the device with a dead battery while plugged in.
I just mention the charger/stock cable thing because I'm sure someone will probably see this post in the future and may be having that particular problem resuscitating their NT.
Cool, yeah I don't specifically set out to run it down to zero but since the device is clean with minimal stuff running in the background, it's difficult to know when this might happen again. I assumed I'd wake up with like 20-25% battery left. The framework FC is also something I'm concerned about but maybe it was just a fluke.
Ah well, really do appreciate your input and I'll be sure to keep the stock cable/adapter on hand when I'm on the go.
Battery showed fully charged, I rebooted to do another CWM backup and then when it came back up it showed 84% charged. Lol. And this pic made me laugh even more. Time to get that lady from Poltergeist involved I think...
The Google Framework force close is typical of stock rooted NTs. I don't believe it ever did any harm to anything though. Just that it sometimes appears on reboot.
I'll ask one additional question as to not make another topic since it's related.
Opinions on battery calibration with the NT? That was one of the reasons I didn't charge it last night as I wanted to fully run it down and then fully charge it back up. Does the NT require this with a new rom install? That pic above shows the battery gauge clearly wasn't correct initially.
Your battery is draining overnight because wifi is running the whole time (as you stated in your first post).

That's what I obviously thought of at first but it didn't drain nearly as much when I was using it throughout the day. The only thing I can think of is maybe the fuel gauge itself was wrong from the start, which refers back to my calibration question.
My GS2 has the sleep policy set to 'Never' as well and only loses maybe 7-8% after being asleep for around 7-8hrs and it certainly uses more juice in sleep due to the cell communication, etc.

I helped a friend of mine root his NT awhile back, and it was working fine for months. I showed him CM7 running off of the SD card and he liked it, so I set it up for him on Friday. I did a factory restore on the NT, and he reentered his BN account info. I then booted off the SD card and everything was working fine as I could tell.
He brought it to me this morning and it won't charge. The "n" is always green when plugged up to the wall and it never goes orange to indicate it is charging. But when I attempt to power it on, it is always displaying the low power message and says to plug in the charger.
What I have tried:
-I removed the SD card, and it still won't charge... (not that it would matter).
-I have 3 chargers and my own NT. When I plug a charger up to my NT it works fine and the "n" goes to orange. But when I plug the same charger into my friends NT, the "n" is green and I can't get past the low batter warning.
-I have had my friends NT connected to a wall charger for about 3 hours this morning and I still can't get it to boot.
Any ideas on what might be wrong and how to fix it?

The same thing happened to my wife's nook this evening. I think the battery is completely run down, but won't receive a charge for some reason. Her charger showed green also.
I tried, removing and reinserting the SD card and also holding power for 20 seconds. I finally was able to hold down the power and the N button down for about 20 seconds. This did the trick. It showed that the battery was too low to turn on. After about 10 minutes, it booted.

strandedinar, did you have the power cord hooked up when you held the power button and "n" button down for 20 seconds?
So connecting the STOCK charger and the STOCK cable and leaving it alone for an hour or so isn't doing the trick? That's really the most that many of us have had to do... No "n" button needed either.

Yes. The nook was plugged in and the "n" was green. The Nook wouldn't power on - My wife was convinced it was my fault for rooting it...
I left it plugged in like that for 20 minutes, but nothing happened when I tried to start it. The charging light was green. I finally tried the power + N button trick and then I received the notice that the power was too low to turn on. This was the first time I received this message. After this, the color of the charging light changed from green to red/orange and I could tell that it was receiving the charge. After 10-15, it power on and has worked normally since.
I tried every thing I could think of and google and nothing worked. I took it to BandN yesterday. They thought it was a typical issue that they see a lot of, but after 3 folks at the store couldn't figure it out, they called 1800 support. Support said it was a bad usb port and swapped it out for a refurbished model.
I still think I could have fixed it, but after a couple of days my friend was getting antsy for it.

I tried, removing and reinserting the SD card and also holding power for 20 seconds. I finally was able to hold down the power and the N button down for about 20 seconds. This did the trick. It showed that the battery was too low to turn on. After about 10 minutes, it booted.

How did you do that? I was trying to hold the buttons and never got anything.
My NT has no juice to boot, but when I plug in a power cord (stock), plugged into stock power charger, it tries to boot up. Power indicator does turn orange, but then it runs out of power once it starts booting and turns off. After a few second it turns back on, and repeats same cycle again. It never boots to the point where it can actually sleep, seems that boot-up process takes more energy than charges could give it.
Try charging it from your computer. Just as suggestion not sure if it will help.

Hello Galets, did you manage to finally charge your Nook? I have the same problem as you have - when stock cable and charger are plugged in - device tries to boot and screen shows up but due to lack of power in accum it turns off and in a few seconds the cycle repeats.
I hardly understand - how it is possible that having mains power plugged it - there is not enough energy to charge and do other necessary things...

UPDATE: problem solved. In order to solve it, I had to disassemble the tablet and unplug the screen cord, then I put the power cable in, battery charged up for about an hour or so, then I plugged screen cord back in and turned it on without a problem. The down side of early charge attempts is that tablet decided that I had 10 failed boots and it reset my previously rooted device. Now I have fresh and clean stock 1.4.2 version.

how did you unplug the screen cord? I've looked up how to take apart the nook, but I'm not sure which one would the the screen cord. Did you follow a tutorial somewhere, or was it easy to figure out once you opened it up?

I did not really follow the guide. I was looking for first two bolts to unscrew. The rest was quite simple but challenging - i don't usually disassemble things.
I did not pull out any of the buttons or battery from where they are and simply unplugged their connectors too - you will see 3 small foam rubber black box-like pieces (in step 9 they only marked one of them). There are plastic connectors under foam rubber pieces.
Be careful not to short-circuit anything with metallic tools.
On the attached image I marked the screen connector. I unplugged it by gently hooking it with two small screwdrivers. When putting it back I gently pressed it until I heard a click. And make sure those small slots on connector match with corresponding ones on motherboard.
Also, when finishing assembly I ran into a small problem with corner flap (which covers sdcard) - it did not want to smoothly slide in and out. So, pull it off completely and after putting plastic cover in place and screwing last two bolts, put it back - some small help of small screwdriver will be needed.

thanks, looks cool. I've never taken anything apart before and I'm afraid of short circuiting something. I think I might try this.
I have a Nook Tablet (NT) that is rooted and running CM 10.2. All was well until recently when I noticed that once the battery is drained it'll take almost a day for it to turn back on, most of the time being stuck in a loop where the "battery is too low to power on" screen will appear and reappear. Two days my daughter was using it to watch Netflix and the low battery toast appeared, she plugged it in and the NT shut off. Pressing the power button produced nothing until we unplugged it again. I tried using three different cords including a fastboot cord I made for our KFHD, each time it shut right off and won't start back up. I've tried plugging a cord in without any power and it doesn't have any effect, yet the minute any kind of power is introduced....it shuts off and stays off while plugged in.
I searched Google, read almost every sorta relevant post and have searched other forums as well with no luck. Has anyone had this problem? Has anyone solved it? What could be the problem? Any help is appreciated. :crying:

I have a hunch the battery is starting to fail. It is not a good idea to let the battery get too low, the reason being if it does then the circuity inside tells the nook that the battery is too low to function. When that happens the nook won't power on OR charge quickly. It can only trickle charge, which is why it can take a long long long time to get enough power to turn on.
If this is happening without warning, then it is because the battery indicator calibration is off. If it does flash up a battery warning turn it off right THEN (put it to sleep by pressing the power button once) and plug it in. This should keep it from powering off totally and should charge quickly.
If it keeps happening, it could be the battery needs to be replaced. There are two places to get one that I know of batteryship.com and newpower99.com both seem to come with tools to do the job.
My tablet started doing the odd phantom touches when the battery gets below 23%. I am trying to find a (real) way to calibrate it, but so far no go. But if need be I can just plug it in at 25% or so, as long as it doesn't get any worse. However from what I hear they often do.

The problem you experienced with NT CM flaky battery reading and with NT going beserk at low battery reading was discussed at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2551512.
FWIW there are some battery-calibration apps but I have not tried them.
I'm starting to think it's a hardware issue. I have replaced the battery twice and did a clean install of liquid smooth and it still shuts off completely when it gets plugged in. It will fully charge while plugged in but it will not turn on at all while power is going to the battery through USB. Once unplugged it will boot normally. Really strange.

I will check out the thread, but I am running the B&N stock 4.3 currently (and rooted).
