I had the samsung captivate and i upgraded to the Note. I don't really like the way it displays my text messages. Its groups my responses together and the same for the messages I received. How do I make it alternate, my message then a response then my message again and so on. Kind of like the iPhone.

It should be threaded if you're using the stock mms ap. I've seen this happen on my friends phone. He fixed it by making sure your clock is set up right. Something with time zone and how it syncs.
This sounds stupid, but I'm on the east cost and when i go into twrp, my clock is an hour behind times. That is how your messages are grouping.

Either your time, date, or timezone is incorrect.
Thank you everyone. It was the time issue. I just had to adjust the setting for time. Thank you.

Hi,
is there any way to add a sending animation (like a progressbar or something) when you click on "send" for a text message?
Sometimes I click on sent and don't see if the click was working because the phone seems to do nothing. So I click again and this often causes the text messaging applicaction to crash.
Does anyone have the same problems?
maybe you should try enabling sms sent notification in the settings..........yes it may be sometimes annoying when sending to multiple contacts, as you get multiple notifications
no I don't want a notfication that the message was sent.
I'd like to have a notification that the message is sending, to prevent clicking on send again.
On my last windows mobile phone (samsung omnia) there was a little animation during the sending of a message. And i was wondering why there isn't anything like that on the HD2.
when using the htc messaging client, the message will move upwards into the space under the last message you got from the person your replying to, to show that it has been sent.........
i wish there was a way, would take away some of my worries about txting lol

Yeah I know, but this only shows me that it was sent.
But I'm looking for an animation or similar WHILE it's sending

Samsung has a very different software overlay than HTC does. You will not get this functionality out of Sense or Windows Mobile as default.
You might be able to get it by using a different SMS application (maybe check Freeware Pocket PC?).
My wife and I upgraded our phones this weekend, and she got an HTC Rezound. She just received a picture message, replied to it, and it automatically replies to everyone the original picture was sent to. She is using Handcent. There was no notification that it was a group convo, and she did nothing different, but the phone replied to everyone in the convo.
Is this a common problem? Perhaps a Handcent problem?

I can only speak for the stock texting app, but it may help. All group texts will display all the recipients of the text in the inbox letting you know it's a group conversation. When replying it will default to all. To respond to an individual in the group, click on the specific text in the thread and an options Window will pop up. There is an option to reply to individual that you can check. You can use this to reply to the original text or to any of the other recipients responses individually.
KORM via the beast known as the Rezound.
Under send message settings it has a send as split thread option.

I recently decided enough with Apple/the iphone and so far I am absolutely loving my S3 and android in general. My only major issue is group messaging within the stock messages app.
With the iPhone it would show me in a group text who messages are also sent to and allow me to reply to all within the group.
Is there a particular setting to allow this on the S3 messaging app? I really like the look/theme of the app and would love this functionality. I do realize there are 3rd party messaging apps out there but I wasn't sure if I was missing anything.
Thanks.
It's not possible with the stock sms app, or even the samsung sms app. You need a 3rd party app like GoSMS Pro, or Handcent. There is a setting in each which enables it.
What it does is it combines the MMS's for you when they come in....so at first they come in as "download"...after they download, they go into the correct thread.
Yes it is just add multiple recipients and then send.

Yea, but when the message comes back, it doesn't group the recipients back (if your recipient replied to all). Don't see a way to reply to all either...in the case that someone sends you a group text.

You can group people together. You can select a group(s) to have your message sent to. If your friends have only one phone number in your contacts it won't ask which one to use, and unfortunately it doesn't remember which ones you picked the next time you start a new conversation (it does remember in the thread). Unless they can reply to all, the responding messages show up as a new thread.
Perhaps you can do this with the ATT MyMsgs app, I don't know.

I heard that the ATT Messages app supports group texting, but you can't initiate a group text...very odd if its true.
When I get a text while the screen is off, it shows up in the lock screen like it's supposed to. But if I pull the text down to the ring to unlock the screen, it will open up the text conversation at the 1st message in the convo instead of the most recent one. So I have to either:
A. Scroll all the way through the conversation down to the bottom, or...
B. back out to my list of threads and go back into the one from the person who just txt'd, at which point everything behaves like normal (showing the new text.)
Does anybody else get this?
I've had it happen a couple of times, not often though. Might be a silly question but have you rebooted the phone? I had a glitch when I first got mine with the audio and when I did a hard restart (with the fast boot option off) it fixed it. I've actually just left fast boot off because it starts up plenty fast no matter what.

I get this all the time. Not really a solution but an alternative to scrolling, you can touch the screen when in conversation and on the right a slider will appear and you can just slide this to the bottom. It scrolls by days so its much faster than just flicking through.
I don't know if anyone else has this problem but when I get a picture message, the date and time of the last text on the main thread screen (where you can see my conversations) for that conversation thread is always that of the pic message and only updates to the correct date and time of the last text when the pic message is deleted.

The messaging app is quirky as hell. It redraws on me SO many times; it's so frustrating. It constantly shows people's phone numbers before switching to the names. I also experience the bug mentioned in this thread quite often.
It's a shame, really. The messaging app is beautiful and I LOVE that it natively does group MMS - something I'm shocked that Google has yet to implement when it's a much coveted feature in iOS. Being a college student, I see group MMS used quite often, especially with group projects.
I would switch to another messaging app, but I'll miss the lock screen functionality. I also find the UI of most alternatives to be pretty ugly.

Man, I thought it was just me. Like another poster mentioned, the app is beautiful, but glitchy. Has anyone else noticed it switchingover to 3G and not switching back? My wife has a razr and has good signal when I drop to 3G. Seems like software, so maybe new radios will fix it?
I too experience redrawing and time being incorrect when a mms is involved in a thread between someone. And switching to the middle "sms/mms" tab does fix it. Also sometimes I'll have to back out to the main messaging screen and then go back to a thread in order for it to update. Example: I'll get a text, I go to the thread and then get another text from the same person right after. I know so because it shows up in the notification bar, but it won't show up in the thread unless I exit it and come back to it so it can refresh.
here's HTC's response as to why it redraws:
"As far as the SMS application, I have noticed that. To be honest with you, the SMS application just like the People application is only an application that is designed to read a database, it doesn't actually store the information. Not only this, but as you may already know, SMS is sent through the network as number only, so when the phone gets the message its actually nothing but a number and the contents (data/text). So, when the phone receives the message it places it in the dialer storage application's databases. Then the messaging application polls that database to load all the available message threads, then the message application polls the contact storage database to cross-reference all of the contact information with the information in the message, and finally it links the storage information from the contact database to the message"

very good point. and any other phone does this too. dont know why its a big deal here?
another issue I have noticed is if you are using the voice dictation with Google now to send a text to someone then that text may not show up in the messaging thread between you and that person.
Not to go too far off topic, but have any of you guys tried Handcent SMS? It's a free SMS/MMS replacement app that is so much better than any preinstalled messaging app I've used on Android.
You can have new messages show as a on-screen pop-up that can bypass the lockscreen and directly show you the message and let you reply from the pop-up. It also does group MMS (among many other options I won't go into detail about).
It's extremely more customizable than any Android stock messaging app I've seen, and it's the first thing me and all the friends I've told about it install on their new Android phones. Set aside 30 minutes to set all the options the way you want it, as there are many of them.
Stock htc one looks better in my opinion. I used to use go sms pro on my old incredible with aokp rom

Handcent just looks like a failed attempt at knocking off the iPhone messaging app. And its just heavy. The HTC one is polished and extremely smooth, and customizable to a reasonable extent.

My Note 2 would group message with NO problems. Just wondering if this is an HTC issue or a Verizon issue.

What app are you using to do messaging? Really should have no problems with it. So question, is it that you can't get it to add more the one person, or are you getting an error while trying to send the message out?
It works fine for me with the stock HTC app.

I am using the stock messaging app. Sorry I didn't further explain. Whats happing is, I can set up the group message just fine (add the reciepiants and it converts to an MMS like it's supposed to). I type the message and hit send. Everybody gets the message but I do NOT get any replies at all. I don't even get replies as an individual text. I get nothing!!!

Maybe they are ignoring you. IJS.
Nah just kidding . are you messaging other providers. sometimes this is a known issue. But no reason why you not getting any. Check your apn setting.
I would believe the ignoring part if I wasn't in the same room with them while I'm trying to figure out what the heck is going on...lol. It is across all three carriers. My Son is on Sprint, one of my daughters is on AT&T and my Wife and my other Daughter are on Verizon. They get the message fine... I get none of there responses (in the group or as a response to the group into my phone as an individual message). When they respond to the group message they all get the message in the same group but I see nothing.
I was on the phone with Verizon for over an hour. They reprovisioned everything on there end. I factory reset the phone to start all over and nothing is helping. I am not rooted... The phone is brand new. Hell I even took the OTA to try and figure this out which sucks because now I can't root the phone.

Yes I checked that. It is "Checked"
Update on this issue. I got the Verizon Store to give another new phone, based on Tech Support saying they have done all they can do, the only thing left was to exchange the phone out.
Unfortunitly that didn't fix the problem. I can still send out a group text but I still do not receive the any of the replies. A regular SMS text works just fine. Very frustrating.
