I have an evo lte running cm 10 and am very happy with it. I am also eligible for an upgrade and was wondering what should I do with it. I was thinking get an iPhone 5 and Craigslist it to some poor isheep for a cool $450ish profit. Or wait for the Galaxy Note II, and sell that one? I think the iPhone would bring better profit. You guys have any ideas?
How do u have an upgrade? Did u buy LTEVO at regular price?

Yup. If you're getting a device just to sell...go this route.

I think your logic is flawed here. You get the upgrade by signing a contract. So let's say you do this and get the iPhone 5 and sell it for 500 bux. You get you supposed cash for ****s and giggles or to get a new device, that's cool too. Now what happens when a surprise must have device drops in four months. You've spent your money and now are also still locked into contract. Person who bought you iPhone 5 made out like a bandit while your stuck with **** all.
My advice, upgrade to the phone you want or buy your phone outright and get off contracts. Don't let some shmuck on CL make out with deal cuz you want a little party cash.
My $0.02 anyways.

Never buy a phone subsidized unless you totally have to.. Screw 2 year contracts, I'll pay full price please.
In your case I'd buy the iPhone and flip it for some "now" money. You can actually sell it for around 6-700 if you time it right.

Note 2 might actually bring more profit than anything
I agree, the Note 2 might even be fun to play with
Save your upgrade... You'll regret it next year when the next EVO is released.

I would also get the Note 2, but I thought that you had to keep the phone activated on the line you are upgrading for at least 90 days... might want to check on that... I have two lines and they have different upgrade times, so I thought I could basically have an upgrade each year by alternating but they told me that the phone has to be activated on the line for 90 days... maybe it was just a rep having a bad day...

Why never buy a phone subsidized? If you are going to be using the service for the next two years, its a no brainer.

Im interested in the answer here as well. The only way I can find to make it cheaper is to go T-Mobile on their $30 monthly plan - http://goo.gl/dNLll
It gets pretty cheap compared to your base sprint plan pretty quick going that route.
Are there other options there I am missing?

Nope it's at least this long. Bill paid on time etc... Our they can go after you for the full price of the phone.. best thing to do is call and ask or actually read the policy on a subsidized phone..
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Not true, they may tell you this at sprint but as long as you activate a new or upgraded phone on the line its supposed to go on you can immediately call back n switch it to another line or off lines. I've done it dozens of times. As long as a phone stays on the line your good, only has to be new phone for a sec to trip the account.
Wait for the new Nexus.

Just my personal belief in not signing a 2 year contract to use a service. I can walk away at any time in those 2 years and not be stuck with an ETA and can also come back as I please. Also you pay a high premium for that phone when it's subsidized.
I just feel it's better to have the option to leave when/if you want.. Guess I shouldn't have said "Never" as I was pushing my thoughts on people. I should have worded it a little different. If you can avoid to purchase the phone full price that's the way to go so you're not locked in and locked down for 2 years.

You pay for that subsidy every month in your bill. Might as well use it.
It's easy to walk away from a contract by making them kick you off.

Keep your upgrade until the next time you want to upgrade...so maybe this coming summer or even wait 2 years to get something that's way better than the evo 4g lte...I don't think anything that comes out by summer 2013 will be leaps and bounds better than the evo 4g lte

Which device are you going to upgrade to? I just ordered my thunderbolt from Verizon. I'm hoping to have it by Monday and I'll miss the devs here but this phone just isn't enough for me anymore
The Eris was free, and my next phone will be free. Probably the T-bolt when I can upgrade mid-september.
Sent from my ERIS GSBv2.1 using XDA Premium App
Unless some other phone that's somehow way better and more worth it comes out and becomes really cheap by my upgrade next February, I'm going with the Thunderbolt.
I got my Eris when Verizon was having the Buy 1 get another free deal.
I'll probably do the same once my plan renews by the end of the year (November-ish)
As to which android phone? It all depends what phone deals they have but it'll most likely be an HTC phone
Got another 6 months to go, but right now it's looking like the TBolt.
Added a poll!
I'm not eligible until September so I'd like to hold out until then, however, the scare of an end-date on the unlimited data package has got me tempted to pay a visit to one of the VZW stores and see if I can manage to get an early upgrade (not going to hold my breath on it).
If I upgrade early then obviously a TB, otherwise I'll wait and see the other offerings when my time comes in September.
I'm probably going to wait out my contract so that I can renew with a one year contract. Waiting 20 months for a new phone with a handset that has a one year manufacturer's warranty is not worth it, I've come to decide. My 20 month upgrade date is in August - if Verizon lets me renew with a 1 year contract then, that's probably when I'll do it; if not, I'll wait until the contract is up in December. Either way, I've got time to decide.
Why would you put the iPhone in the poll? Surely none of us are traitors to our Android fanboyism
Ehh, Its to show that even though people will jump to android from iOS, no one would to iOS from android
I tried out the Thunderbolt, and it's blazing fast. The shape of it takes a couple minutes to get use to holding though.
I'm loving this Thunderbolt lte is crazy fast and the phone makes the eris look and feel like a toy.

DOH! Please don't send the Steve Jobs minions down on me! Good catch, I must've been tired.
Why would anyone consider the iThing... 800mhz processor, last years technology, on a 2 year contract.. kind of shooting yourself in the foot with that.
I myself am highly interested in the LG Revolution as long as it is not over priced. The Tbolt looked nice but I had 2 concerns, battery and price. 250 is a tad steep. If they put the LG in at 199 I am jumping on that bad boy or maybe if the lower the Tbolt price in store to 199. There is no LTE in my area and probably will not be for some time so I have not ruled out the incredible 2 either.

Trust me, LTE compliments any fast phone. Why wait for the download to finish on 3G? That would be just as fast as any eris. The thunderbolt can download and install an app on 4G in a matter of about 3 seconds. Love my thunderbolt

If this is true, we can Thank the iPhone and all the Apple A-HOLES. The CARRIER KILLER Strikes Again. I now wish AT& T was able to buy T-Mobile. At least Sprint would have tried to stay competitive still. Once a Carrier gets the iCrap they forget who got them there

This is a **** move from sprint, they are going back downhill. They are upping their etf to $350 and now this? If they had decent 3g then ok but service is subpar. They want to play with the big 2 (being Verizon and AT&T) and they can't even match them with service. Yes we have unlimited but what good is that if people are only getting 300 kbps downloads.

What's funny is I just talked to a Retention Manager and He told me that he got that e-mail about 30 minutes ago about the Premiere Program going away and was surprised it was in the Interwebz already. This is horrible. I have been with Sprint 11+years and if they think they can move up to the big dogs (Verizon & AT&T) and NOT provide the same Speed in 3G and 4G (LTE) they are going to loose customers so quick it will make their heads spin. Greed plain and simple. Get the iPhone and get Greedy, A-Holes. Bye Sprint, Hello Verizon and the Bionic.
All of this is totally understandable to me at least on Sprints part. They have the best rates and want to keep them a little longer. They have to make cuts somewhere.
I probably don't sympathize well because I just now finally got a cell phone but I think their rates are way better than Verizon or AT&T.
I do understand long term bonuses though because I've worked at the same place for over 18 years and to lose something sucks.
If I am going to get RAPED, I will at least have better coverage. Sprint has horrible coverage and thinks because they are getting the iPhone they can be Jerks. Adios Sprint, Hello Verizon. My Wife has a 24% discount with Verizon. Hopefully the Bionic is a nice phone. I may just go Trac Phone. This is getting ridiculous.
This thread is going no where real quick.

Here's the New iPhone policy. ****ing iPhone just KILLS CARRIERS and their existing customers.
Me and my gf signed up b4 the 14 day exchange policy do we still get our 30 days?
This stinks but its bringing them to same as the other carriers. Also, at least they are giving notice, over 3 months for the people who are close. If I'm not mistaken, I believe Verizon gave like no notice when they screwed over. Not happy, just hit gold and all cause its a crappy iphone but I can't see leaving for another carrier when they do the same or worse. Sprint still has the best plan prices and unlimited data (not saying this won't change next) F Apple.
Last year when the 3vo was announced there was a big hype about calling a certain sprint number to get an early upgrade by just asking. I did this and it worked perfectly. Has anyone done that this year for the 4G LTE? I know they were going to introduce a "buy your upgrade" program but I haven't heard if it's in place or not. Any info would be great.
I have the same question. Basically it says I'm available for an upgrade after April 1st 2013. What are my best options for getting out of the contract so I can upgrade to another phone the cheapest way possible?

The Buy Your Upgrade program is how I am getting my EVO LTE. I'm not due for an upgrade until October, but after complaining about a few things (that I made up lol) they told me about the program. It cost me $45 bucks to make my line eligible. I figured it was worth the $45 bucks not to have to wait until October

Well, I am upgrading my daughters line that has an EVO Shift on it. She has had 3 of them, all had problems. I told them this one was having problems too and I was tired of dealing with it. Needless to say she won't be getting the new EVO I was planning on giving her my 3D, but I'm one of those who flashed the VM firmware, so I don't know now.
By the way, they will be released soon. This was on my order status page today:

This phone is going to be amazing man no worries at all.
im coming! pre ordered already!
I'll be jumping ship, however I will keep my Evo 3D since it was my first Android phone =p
Luckily, I'm in a line with the girlfriend but her mother's Verizon contract is ending and she asked her if she could join us in our family plan. Then my genius set in. I told her she could take my place on the contact and I'll be "transferring" just the phone number onto a new contract by myself to take advantage of the 199 price (plus I get a 20% discount because of the company I work for) so in the end I'll be paying a cheaper monthly bill and my gf will be able to help her mom and Sprint gets another contact up. Win-win-win.
EDIT: Does anyone know if the phones will be available in store on launch day? The reason I ask is because I'm unable to predorder (due to Sprint having to transfer my phone # out and I have to give them proof of my employment for the discount).

Haha then what's with the pre-ordering hype when you can pick one up at the store usually faster than you get it shipped (and can make sure it has no dead pixels, etc.)
It is a shame I wont be keeping my phone number but eh, no big deal when I get an awesome phone for such a good price.
Definitely making the jump I got my 3D from a friend moving overseas for practically nothing. So my upgrade is fully intact from my OG EVO. It will be a welcome edition to my Evo family of phones.

that's what I was hoping to hear. I didn't know that was an option. I'm going to call Sprint and see if I can wheel and deal! $100 and something is better than paying full price like others are right? why wouldnt everyone do a "buy out"?
It's been a long grueling last year with my OG Evo and it's time to part ways. I've always been and HTC supporter and I will continue to support their product. I will be getting an EVO LTE but paying the full $199 just seems outlandish especially now that ATT and T-Mobile dropped the One X to $99.99. I have some other options rather than buying directly from Sprint but I wanted to know other people's experience. Radioshack and Wirefly will ship one to my house, FedEx next day (which means I wouldn't get it till Tuesday), for $149.99 even. I was wanting to know any drawbacks to purchasing from these two providers rather than going through Sprint. I do have full insurance through Asurion so accidental damage isn't my concern but more of what happens if there is a manufactures defect? Also, anybody heard any news of Sprint reducing the price so they can compete? I would hate to pay $199 and then have Sprint drop it to $99 in the next month or so.
I could also go to Best Buy and get it for $149.99. I think this is going to be my first option considering my patience with my OG is running really thin. I am also selling my great condition OG with a ton of stuff so if anyone want to shoot me an offer, I would definitely think about it before posting on eBay.
It's too bad you didn't get it last week bestbuy had it for $99 for a week. I just got mine this pay Friday paid $104 out the door

Ya I just checked and it is only for brand new lines. I need to upgrade so it would be $99 which isn't bad. I may just have to do that. I may walk in to best buy and see if they will honor last weeks price because I'm technically not eligible until Sept 1st and I've tried everything to get my date pushed up. Once again I am upgrading and not starting a new line or contract. The prices vary drastically.

Yah absolutely. The problem is small stores that sell Sprint have to abide by Sprint's pricing. I fell like if I order one online, it will come boxed and I can do whatever from there. I'm sure there will be a LazyPanda updated for 1.15 but who knows when. Having radio S-OFF isn't the biggest deal to me as long as I can get root. It sucks not being able to sideload firmware but what are you going to do about HTC and their bootloaders. I think I'm going to go through Amazon. It seems to be the only place to get the upgrade price of $99.99.

So get a new line and shutdown the old one. You'll get it for $99 then.

I'm on a family plan. How does that actually work? Would I have to get a new number?

Yes to a new number. Sucks a little but saves some money.
