[Q] Need Serious Help Troubleshooting a Problem - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Anybody that thinks they are one of the best if not the TOP troubleshooting helper around, Please let me know if you are available after 5 today. I dont have a lock screen anymore and when I hold the power button down, the device shuts off instead of having the options to reboot, power down, screen shot, whatever else available. I am rooted, but I did try going back to stock and had no luck with the lock screen. Also, I cound a backup on a different MicroSD card and tried to restore that. It worked fine, but never gave me the lock screen or power down options again. Weather you want to talk on the phone, chat, or email. Please reply here or email me at [email protected] Thank You!

Sorry but we don't have a ranking system here. You get what you get . . .
The power off menu is in the framework of the OS. Have you flashed anything with CWM/TWRP that could have changed the framework? Almost any mod could be a possible cause.
Did you use a theme-setting app? These apps change the framework and that includes the lock screen too.
Have you restored a backup recently?
Post your rom version and apps you installed recently.

I'm sorry you felt the need to take what i said the way you did. I was simply stating what i said the way i did because nobody could ever help me with this. I am currently rooted on stock ics. I didn't even have a lock screen after i flashed back to stock on Odin, then used kies to get the latest ics. It doesn't make sense. Do Tippy have any idea how i could put this back to normal? It's a pain having to rely on go locker and go launcher. Also, when i hold the power button down, the phone just shuts down, with no options like normal. It's crazy. I appreciate your help either way. It won't let me flash a different ROM right now. Gives some error. I just want to be fully stock with a lock screen and power menu options them go from there.

If you push the power button in and it reboots, can't you just hold the middle of the volume rocker in at the same time to get into recovery?

Well yeah but what does that have to do with anything? It doesn't help at all. That doesn't fix any of my problems. This problem is much more complex. The issue is that my phone is not as it normally should be..with options after holding down the power button, and with no lock screen...even after successfully going back to stock, these things were missing...

Since you can't go back to stock,
Flash a rom, it should install those missing things.
Or mess it up worse and take it back for a new one.

It won't let me flash another ROM. Gives me Assn error and doesn't go through. If i try returning the device with the flash counter where it's at, won't that be an issue? I can't go without the device. I use it for too much. Maybe i could figure out how to reset flash counter? Idk..i just need this fixed bad

This maybe a dumb thought but can you use kies and install the original ICS again? I know you mentioned backups didn't work so reinstalling original ICS probably won't worj either. Just a thought.

I thought I already mentioned this but I already tried that. It does not work. It sucks man. Nothing seems to work. I wonder if there is somebody who could walk me through the troubleshooting of the whole system or soemthing. I know if I try to contact AT&T about it they will laugh at me and not be able to help me. If anybody knows the ins and outs of the framework or anybody could even show me where to look and what needs to be there that isnt..even terminal emulator...anything...I appreciate everybody trying to help me so far but nothing has helped yet Thank you though and thank you to anybody who from here on out tries to help me. I know I will tell you again too.

Are you going back to stock ICS or gingerbread? I would Odin back to gingerbread and start brand new. This will solve any major issue for sure. But only do it if you have the things you need to get back to where you are, like the GB root, cwm or twrp, and your roms. Let me know if that helps

I can let you know up front this did not work. I did this in the beginning. Went back to stock GB then had to use Kies to get to ICS. This did not help my issue/problem at all. Still no lock screen. It sucks. I am almost lost for help here it seems. Is there any way to completely reset the device from the beginning? Or again, any way to get help with everything in the actual framework of the whole device? Anything anybody could do to help me with would be amazing. Thank you for everything again!

Try this, not sureb if it fits your issue 100%.

Idk but I did warranty claim with one of my notes and Samsung didn't say anything about the flash counter after. But they also sent me the new phone first then I sent mine back, but like I said they didn't say anything after.
but now that I think about it, the lock screen is not a device issue. it comes different in every ROM in the framework res.apk! I don't see how that's even possible? The entire frameworks flash and the device can't on its own decide not to install that especially not on stock GB. For you to Odin back to GB and not have a lock screen on GB is just crazy. Nothing out there I'm aware of can do that and not brick the device. You have to bring that device back foreal. That's screwed and if you do fix that pm me and tell me how!

Will do. You see why it's crazy now!? It's ridiculous! Never heard of or seen this problem ever..I'm not new to Android or Android troubleshooting atall. Just this blows my mind!

There is no warranty issue here.
I asked several questions about what you have done, but you didn't inform us.
You never said what recovery you have. The simplest solution is to reboot into recovery, wipe all caches, factory reset, then flash a stock rom.
If you can't do that I would use Odin to flash a stock rom.
Those are your options.

I have tried to answer every single question to the best of my ability. Sorry I did not answer your question properly. I was on CWM recovery but Just now again I flashed back to STOCK using Odin. Meaning I have stock recovery. I still DO NOT HAVE a lock screen or any options when shutting the phone down. Those "options" you gave me are no longer available. I did all that. I am about to try to go to a friends house to flash to ICS using Kies...which still will give me no lock screen or options when holding down the power button. There is obviously a deeper problem here. I hope somebody could help me solve this issue. Please I am begging here It is horrible!

This is what I just did. Also, I have been looking at this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504218 wondering if I should try this next. Either way, I am not getting a lock screen or options when I hold down the power button. Please help Anybody!

Why isn't flashing a stock rom using Odin not an option? Odin is the pc software Samsung created and uses for their work.
Kies didn't work -- try Odin3 1.85

Again, I feel like a broken record by repeating this SEVERAL times but Flashing Back To Stock Using ODIN Does Not Work! I just said that I did this in my post before last. I finally have managed to get cm10 nightly to flash on my device. When I flashed this, it gave me the lock screen back along with options when I hold down the power button. Thank you all for your help anyways. I guess this is as good as it will get.

When you flash a rom with Odin, it reformats your phone, like a clean slate, then installs the new system.
When you say you flashed back to stock, did you use a .pit file, a .tar file, and a .bin file? If not, you are not flashing back to stock -- you're just adding up a mess in your phone.
If you use Kies, then use the emergency firmware recovery, it will supposedly do the same thing as a correct Odin flash -- reformat then install a clean stock rom.

[Q] Read until my eyes hurt....I'm sorry i have to ask....

This is my very first smartphone as I have been to poor to get one before now. I have Att SGS2. From what i have read i have made a bad decision when doing the factory upgrade to uckk6.
The thing is I want to root the phone, put on custom mods....but I am having a hard time grasping it. I don't want to mess anything up and I dont want to lose my photos and such that are on the phone.
I dont know where to even start.....backup program? or? what all programs or apps i need?
before I upgraded, i downloaded a super1click program and it said it was rooted...then i tried to use the phone and there was soooo much lag in the response time..... i hit the unroot button and tried to use the phone and same thing...restarted phone and it was fine. While it was rooted tho, the damn superuser part asked for money before i could even do anything, that was second reason for unroot and of course thinking i may mess up my phone.
I have tried asking all my friends and to no avail have succeeded in finding anyone that has rooted a phone and/or flashed custom roms.
Like I said in the title, i have been to many different sites even trying to read up and I would rather be safe than sorry. If someone could plz help me out here I would be very grateful.
I am hoping I don't get spazzed at like i seen in a few other posts of other ppl.
And i have seen where someone sent ppl to:
[Heimdall][Odin][Stock][Root]UCKH7/KK6 Return/Unbrick to Stock (or Root
but that doesnt get my foothold on where to start at.
Please don't write me off as a lost cause because I would like to enjoy the benefits of having a rooted phone and custom roms as the rest of you that are intelligent enough to do so. At one point I'm sure you were where i am. I am very eager to learn and can't wait!
While I was writing this i downloaded the Uckk6_stock_rooted.tar.7z not sure if i need it or what though.
Thanks
Follow this guide TO A TEE, and you shouldn't have any problems. It also won't trigger the flash counter so you can take it back for repairs and Samsung won't know you've done anything to it. Use (2C) Entropy's version using windows to root as the others won't work with the OTA update. If you have a MAC, use 2D. Folow the directions EXACTLY how their written. This will get you rooted. Drop down to 3B and again, FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS EXACTLY HOW THEIR WRITTEN. After this is done, you have a Entropy's kernel with CWM. You can then download any COMPATIBLE rom to your internal SD card and flash the rom with CWM.
To save your pics and such, just hook your phone to your puter via the USB cord and copy/paste, or drag and drop to a file on your computer.

thx again axis01. i sent you a couple pm's with a few more detailed questions also
um.....got past the first part 2c......my wifi doesn't work now????
sorry for spazzing i guess. just trying to learn lol.
my phone wont connect to any wifi, turn it on, few seconds later it shuts itself off....... plz somone help asap! its 5 am now....gonna sleep, hopefully response tomorrow.
thx in advance
help came in later post to wipe. thanks
Did you root with kh7? I see you had kk6 stock. If you went back to kh7 (2.3.4) wifi breaks and have to wipe data. Look at entrophy's thread about it. The return to stock one

I just don't understand why people who can't comprehend the process of rooting or flashing even try. It's not like this phone sucks stock that they just have to mod it to make it workable. None of this is rocket science, but if you don't understand it beforehand then JUST LEAVE YOUR PHONE ALONE! It will be 100 times harder to fix it if you don't know how you messed it up in the first place. It really isn't fair to expect people in here to bail you out when things go wrong because you didn't know what you were doing. The warnings aren't there to keep you from the good stuff. They're there so that you'll think before doing and only do once you understand.

I've read everything in your thread so far and it sounds like everything is fixed. If wifi works and you have root, cwm, and superuser you should be good to go. Go install roms and enjoy. Really doubt your wifi is going anywhere. I'm far from a programmer or anything like that, and from my experience, if you follow the instructions it's hard to **** this phone up beyond repair firmware wise so freaking out is pointless.

I bought the phone, rooted it and flashed a custom rom all yesterday. I was on KK6 2.3.6. Here is EXACTLY what I did:
Get Odin 1.7 from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=832827
Get Samsung Kies from here (only way my computer would pick up the phone):
http://mirror10.downloadandroidrom.com/download/Samsung/Kies_2.0.3.11082_152_4.exe?token=512181517
Follow 2c from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311081
Then Step 3A in the same thread.
My phone restarted and I was rooted. My WiFi didn't work. Wiped all data in Clockwork Mod Recovery and I was all set. Then I unlocked my phone (this is optional). Then I flashed a ROM. Easy.
Seems like you're all set if I you did something close to that^
I used ICScrewD (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1375255)
Another popular option is UnNamed (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1299474)
Kernels:

[Q] Uses for bricked X2...

Hey guys, I think I'm in trouble. Two weeks ago I got an X2, and soon after discovered the Modding and Root world. Needless to say I ended bricking with Rom Manager. Obviously a user error... Anyway, I was wondering if there might be somehow I could use the memory on the phone as an external hard drive or something. Could I install the zipped .sbf file to SanDisk, and if I find a way to get back in to recovery....you see where I'm going with this.
Thanks again

Yes I have. I rooted it initially and everything was fine until I lagged the system somehow with certain settings. The learning curve is not a big one, but its still existent. Anyway, I wiped and flashed .sbf perfectly. It was only when I rooted the second time and opted for a Mod where things went badly...I guess. No warning, the device just shuts off and comes back to the boot screen(Motorola emblem). No fastboot option or anything.

You'd be surprised by how many people on ebay and other sites want bricked devices. Some use them for parts and others just want to screw around with them.

I'd be very surprised if this was truly bricked. When you rooted the second time, did you get bootstrap recovery installed? If so you can pull the battery, leave it turned off and plug it into a wall charger. It should power itself on and take you right to ClockWorkMod recovery and from there you could Use ADB to push a working rom and start off on a clean slate (or restore a nandroid if you made one before flashing mods.)
Otherwise, I would suggest continuing trying to get in the device in RSD mode. Sometimes these phones can be finicky, I know when I first started messing with Androids it would often take several times to get to the Bootloader options rather than just powering on the device.
What was the questionable mod you used?

Have you tried following my tutorial on SBF? Try holding the Volume Up button and see if you get to the "Starting RSD" (or something like that). You should be able to SBF from there.
The link is in my signature or here: HowTo: Perform a SBF ("factory restore") of your Motorola Droid X2
Ciao!
As long as the phone turns on you can fix it. SBF will fix your issue.

If it truly is bricked, you could use it for batting practice. I've wanted to do that to a working X2 many times, so I know I would if it were bricked
Sbf sbf S B F
make sure u charge ur battery full up before flashing sbf file
Like moon said power button and volume up starts rsd protocol
If that doesn't work there is also a thing called ezSBF someone can tell ya bout
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 Beta-6
I've tried the fastboot(volume button) method and there is nothing. No response what so ever. I've never even heard of EZsbf, but I'm gonna try it out. Oh, whoever asked about the MOD a while ago....it was gingerbread I think. The only thing I wanted was to overclock my cpu's just a bit, but ended up getting in way over my head very quickly. The light comes on when the phone is plugged in with no battery and stays on. Other than that no change. Hey thanks guys, alot!
No not fast boot
That shows when u press power and volume down together(u need to hold both buttons down)
Instead
PRESS POWER BUTTON AND VOLUME UP AT SAME TIME and hold them BOTH for about 10seconds. U should see "starting RSD protocol..." at the top of ur screen
If u don't then u probly need to charge ur battery
Also
We have NO WAY to over clock due to our locked bootloader. You need to be able to install a custom kernel to be able to over clock and we can't do that.
I recommend not to try any mods or anything outside of this DROIDX2 development forum(don't even use stuff made for original X it will mess ur phone up. And definitely stay away from atrix, photon, etc...even if something says "universal mod/tweak/hack" its most likely gonna break ur x2 cuz the x2 is just a finnicky ass phone lol)
Good luck!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 Beta-6
You need to reinsert the battery, keep the phone off, then plug it in to the wall charger. If you had BSR installed it'll boot into recovery.

Yeah, you're right! Still new to threading! I was able to initialize DSP Restore, but I didn't have bootstrap prior to the crash, but beca use the X2 was now recognized I could push the .sbf using DSPlite. Then, once the nano was open I just factory defaulted, because my service wasn't recognized by my carrier.... And they all modded happily ever after. I do have a question though: what do you think about trying the root again and instead of manually removing the fluff programming I get a manger to take care of it? This thing is factory pure right now. Btw, I'd like to call attention to where this is being posted from. That is called success...thanks again.

This thing is factory pure right now. Btw, I'd like to call attention to where this is being posted from. That is called success...thanks again.

There is a list in this forum from a long while ago that has what's safe to remove and what isn't.
But the easiest thing u could do is to flash either eclipse, molten, liberty , or cm7
They will pretty much get rid of ALL the bloat that is safe to remove and cm7 will even remove ALL the blur skin along with bloat and give you an AOSP experience with your device
signature: 404 error
I'm going to try it....now!
Its pretty hard to brick these devices with the SBF file Motorola supplies. And just a suggestion for future reference, DO NOT use ROM manager with this phone. ROM manager is more for phones with an unlocked bootloader which this phone doesnt have. Some things will work but some things will mess up your phone.

Enjoy
But make a nandroid first!
That way if u wanna go back u don't need to flash sbf u can just restore ur nandroid and be on ur way lol

Ok, just to check my rationale: I'm going to create a Nandroid, to the SD, but I should download CM7 to my PC and install it that way so as not to lag or cause any complications with the X2. Correct?

Help Please! Phone won't turn on

First off, my apologies if this is in the wrong forum. Mods, you may move this thread if need be. I was just shown this website about two weeks ago by a friend and have only been a lurker since. So I apologize if my first post is one needing assistance.
First off, I am not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to doing all this reboot, recovery, root, etc. But I can usually figure stuff out. I have researched how to do all this stuff over the last to weeks learning how to do all this. Let it be known that I was already rooted with siyah 3.4.2? kernel with superuser, CWM, and had ROM Manager downloaded. Last night I had finally decided to try and download a custom rom (AOKP), and I went through ROM Manager to try and reboot into recovery mode..the phone went dead. I have not been able to turn the phone on since last night. I have tried taking the battery out, trying to hold down volume buttons/power button to get into download mode, etc..But nothing is happening. When I power on, I can see the screen where it says "Samsung Galaxy SII" w/ the triangle, but then the screen goes black and nothing. In a dark room, you can see that the screen looks like it's trying to fire by flickering, but again...nothing. Sorry if this has been alot of reading, but I just want to be as thorough as I can. If anybody can tell me what went wrong, and how it might be fixed, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

Remove the battery and replace it. hold the up/down volume and power button. The screen should light up. Continue to hold them until the phone goes into recovery mode. The phone should turn on and off a couple times before it enters recovery. Then wipe the data and caches. Hopefully at the point the phone will work. If it wont work you could always try to buy a download jig. They are only a couple dollars and can easily be found with a search.

That usually cause more trouble than it's worth. Espeically for a noob. I had been in that situation back when I first start doing it. First thing I used was CWM and I had the same/similar problem.
That is why everyone here always mentioned to not use CWM.

@BigCohiba,
You need to get into download mode. You should be able to do that without using a jig. With the phone off, but with the battery still in the phone, hold down vol- and vol+ (but not power) while you plug in the usb cable.
The following instructions given by fakhri should also work:

After that, flashing siyah kernel alone may be enough to allow the phone to boot, but you may have trouble finding a Siyah in Odin flashable tar format.
...or, flash straight stock UCKH7, or flash stock plus root UCKH7. You can find download links for those in one or the other of the guides linked in my signature.
Please let us know your success or problems as you proceed.

[Solved]Black screen after T-Mobile spash screen/Stuck on Vibrant/samsung boot screen

I was using Rom ToolBox. I attempted to change the theme of my rooted but stock rom Vibrant. When RTB(Rom ToolBox) rebooted the phone it would only boot to T-mobile boot screen then go to a black screen. The 4 buttons on the bottom of the phone still light up when touched. I can get into recovery and have reset data as well as formatted SD card.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I need this phone for my job that starts on wensday.
After recovering from what I posted above, I then soft bricked my phone a second time, this time it would only load to the Vibrant/Samsung boot screen.
"You should be able to get to download mode.
Pull the battery, put it back in.
Make sure the phone is still off.
Hold volume up + down while inserting the usb cable.
See if that works." credit goes to theexel for getting me out of this second soft brick.
If you have had either of these 2 problems this thread should have some answers for you, or will point you in the right direction to getting ur problem fixed.
I cant say thanks enough to everyone that helped or tried to help me with these 2 problems.

If your phone is stock rom but rooted.. just use odin, you can lose some info, or not, but the phone will work perfectly again (suggestion: try jelly bean, better battery, and it's working great)

That should be if you have this phone period, and there's signs of life on it, which there is on yours.
Look through this Q&A section for a tutorial on how to ODIN back to stock, you should be fine.

Bad news for me, now its soft bricked I believe(phone--!--cpu) screen. Also looks like the usb port is bad. Talk about crappy luck. Any ideas on this development is also appreciated.
You can still ODIN when you see phone--!--cpu.
As long as you see a COM in ODIN, you're good to go.
If it's not working, try different computer ports, cables, etc.

I think the longest part of using ODIN is having to download the files initially.
It only takes, no more than 10-15 minutes to have your phone up and running again once you have all the files and run ODIN.

I bricked it good this time, got cocky and flashed droid-vibrant rom. Didnt like it so I went to go back to my original stock rom, used clockwork recovery but something went wrong. When I rebooted the phone im now stuck at the vibrant/samsung screen. Cant get into recovery or download modes now. Everything I try just keeps cycling the vibrant/samsung boot screen. Is this a hard brick or is there a way to save it?

You sir are a life saver. Ok now before I do anything else. What should be my first move from here?
Well, that depends on what you want to do.
What ROM you want to install, etc.
Well, what do you want to run on your phone?
Froyo - been out for a long time so it is optimized to the eyeballs. Working GPS, long battery life, quick and snappy.
Gingerbread - Since we had no "official" build, there are problems with battery, GPS and small memory leaks here and there. Plus you will have to install Gingerbread bootloaders (If you screw this up, it is the one sure fire way to hardbrick this device-so tread lightly). Almost all GB ROM do NOT have e911/911. There is CM7/7.2, Simply Honey, MIUI
ICS - Make sure you choose anything 4.0.4 based, as it has updated code from Google. ICZen is my home ICS ROM, but there is Slim, CM9 and a few others. (Install guide is in my signature) GPS sucks for the most part too and maybe/maybe not e911/911.
JellyBean - All are experimental and still glitchy if you don't know what you are doing. HellyBean and SlimBean are the two front runners.
******************
My suggestion to you is for you to runu some Froyos to get you comfortable with the flashing, nandroiding, tweaking,...processes and then move on to something else. Above all read and search. This phone is 2 years old, so chances are you won't have done anything that someone else already has. Nearly all the issues are solved, so you should be able to use the search and find something out about said problem, as opposed to opening a thread about it.

I think i will stay far far away from GB. I guess I would want to stay on froyo, I just dont know which froyo rom would be the best. What im looking for is fast/good battery life/working GPS. I would need 911 to work as I drive for my work and use it quite abit to call in accidents/problems on the roads that I see.
Yea I searched and read and read, once I got to the phone--!--computer I knew what was wrong. This last time I found alot of people who had the same problems, the ones that got solved I tried the methods that they used and none worked.
I would go with Bionix-V FishmanMod Rom / Bionix-V FishmanMod Odin Images. It is proven to be really great at all the things that you listed. Also it has an Odin image, so you can just flash it through Odin and go about your day like normal (See the OP). You can theme it with the themes list in Slim_Ryder's post #4 (this is a great 2.2 ROM also btw).
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

One last thing: Can you go into your OP and click Edit>Go Advanced and then put [Solved] in your title.

Rooted S2 months ago, acting up now and won't boot (regular and recovery mode).

Preface: I have zero knowledge of android development and rooted my phone myself.
Some months ago I decided to root my S2 i777.
I followed the instructions on this page word for word: http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-root-ics-on-att-galaxy-s2-sgh-i777/
I decided to do it after my stock was getting laggy and was randomly shutting down and throwing the battery calibration off. After reading the good feedback in that page's comment section. I gave it a go.
Everything went fine and my now-rooted S2 was no longer randomly shutting down!
I noticed though that the caera and video playback stopped aorking. As in, the screen would be black. I could still take pictures, but I would knot know what it looked like until it was taken. That didn't bother me much though since not having the phone shut down random;y several times throughout the day anymore was more than worth that unfortunate loss.
Today, though. It started randomly cutting to black and boothing constantly. My battery calibration was all over the place. It has restarted at least 10 times today.
I talked to my friend that originally conviced me to root and he said to do a factory reset. I backed up my contacts on my SIM and did so.
Now it won't boot past the screen that reads "Samsung Galaxy SII GT-1900" with the yellow warning triangle underneath (this is wha tthe boot screen changed to after rooting.).
I can not boot into recovery mode via keeping all three side buttons pressed.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

@GPS_Music,
If you still want a rooted phone, then rather than flashing straight stock, why don't you save yourself a step, and flash Stock plus root. The links in my signature give pretty clear directions.
Since you originally rooted with files from GalaxyS2Root, the problems you have experienced are very likely related to the quality of those files. If you avoid GalaxyS2Root in the future, and use files from these forums, you will have a much better experience.
Since you want JellyBean, after you flash stock plus root, you could follow my guide to install a custom kernel which contains ClockworkMod Recovery, and then flash one of the fine JellyBean firmwares available in the development section.
If you have any questions as you go along, feel free to ask them in this thread.

Thank you for your reply.
The main reason I opted to use that site was because of the ese of the steps, as well as the pictures. I wanted a method that was clear so I would minimize me messing up. I will look into your signature links now, but I should note that I don't recall stating I wanted JellyBean...my phone is 4.0.x last I recall, which is ICS.
Hey creepyncrawly,
I was able to download the material from your signature yesterday, but unfortunately my battery wa too low to safely put into downlaod mode (according to the phone, which read something along the lines of "Battery low! Can not download!" in red).
I tried charging it before I went to bed but it would not go past the screen that shows the battery indicator with a loading circle int he middle (which was not rotating). It would then go black and the screen would "retsart" constantly to black screens (I did not notice this until I turned off my room lights, the screen was very black but I could tell it was turning on and off).
I am trying again now to charge it but I seem to be having the same issue. I will leave it plugged to my charger for an hour and then try to turn it on.

It sounds to me like you're trying to put it in Recovery Mode. Download mode is something completely different. Here's what you can do:
- Take the battery out.
- Leave it out.
- Hold down Vol Up and Vol Down.
- While they are pressed, plug the phone into your computer.
This should place you in Download Mode. Then used Odin to flash the Stock Plus Root package.

Are you saying to leave the battery out completely during the entire proces? That doesn't seem right.
As of now, I still can not get my battery to charge. I wonder if the ATT store cna loan me a replacement battery for a little bit.....

Yes, I'm saying leave the battery out for the whole process. The USB connection will supply the power.
Seriously, just give it a try.

It worked! Thanks so much!
However, It reverted me back to jellybean 2.3.4 and feels sluggish compared to when I had ICS, should i manually update it or should I install come custom rom?

I think you mean Gingerbread 2.3.4. Also, if you're rooted, never attempt an official update.
You can do what you want, but if you want my personal opinion, I would suggest a custom rom. If you think ICS was fast, wait until you try Jellybean. If you want a Touchwiz rom, probably go with ShoStock 3. If you want a more stock Nexus-ish flavor, give Task's AOKP a try. Just remember to follow each thread's installation instructions exactly, which means a full wipe.

The main thing I am looking for is a smooth interface, minimal lag, and reliable. Which ROM fits that description? And may you link me to it's instructions?
Thanks!
NOTE: I just experienced a random restart. I was using the phone and the screen suddenly went black and bootted again. This is the same issus I was experiencing before I re-rooted.
Should I be concerned?\
EDIT: It happened agian, not even a minute after the previous one after it was all re-booted up.
I am seeing he following under About Phone:
Model Number: SAMSUNG-SGH-I777
Android Version: 2.3.4
Baseband Version: I777UCKH7
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.UCKH7

Either of the roms I mentioned will give you a smooth interface and be reliable. And no, you can get to the instructions yourself. I'll give you a hint; the ShoStock 3 instructions are in the ShoStock 3 thread, and the AOKP instructions are in the AOKP thread.
It's pretty clear you don't really know what you're doing, so I'll spoonfeed you a little more. You're not going to use Odin to flash the rom. You're going to use CWM Recovery. You can get CWM Recovery by flashing a kernel that includes it. Here's what you do:
1. Download rom of choice and save it to your SD card.
2. Install Mobile Odin Lite.
3. Download Siyah kernel.
4. Extract the zimage and save it to your SD card.
5. Use Mobile Odin to flash the zimage.
6. Boot into Recovery.
7. Wipe Data, Cache, and Dalvik Cache.
8. While still in Recovery, install rom.
9. Reboot.
Most people will not (and should not) be as helpful as I just was. In the future, read read read. Read the stickies, search for threads that deal with issues you may be having, and read them. All the info you need is already out there, you just need to learn how to find it.

It'll go away once you flash a different rom.

Understood and much appreciated!
I suppose it's just me being over-over-over-careful and making absolutely sure I don't screw anything up (like last time). Though now I know this is the site to go to for any reference!
Thanks again!
