hi all, i would like to ask you for a help with my vibrant. I just purchased it and successfully made the root and unlock. I managed to do both even tho my hardware button keys does not support the recovery mode. Any holding of the buttons will not allow the phone to go to recovery mode, this is not working even with an odin. After i did the root and unlock i downloaded the rom manager, created a clockwork image and back up i tried to make the partition of my 16gb SD card using the rom manager. After this my phone restarted but after t mobile logo and galaxy s logo the phone screen stays black. Tried all thee methods to go into the recovery mode but was not able to do it. i searched this forum also but was not able to find similar case to this one. i would be very thankful for any advice.
You'll have to get T-Mo to exchange it.

thanks to this instructions i was able to use odin but this did not change the satus of my phone?????
unfortunately cant i did not buy it in the store
NEVER use rom manager to partition your SD card. Try the steps in this thread
thank you, trying to do it now
a friend of mine bricked his phone and it boot up to the "S" screen then go black after a min. i flashed it using oden and the T959UVJFD file but i got the same results when trying to boot up again. it wasn't my phone and i had already sent the guy to get a new one, but i just started flashing it with all the vibrant oden roms i could find... non of them worked. i really didnt care any more so i was just playing around with the phone and flashed a i9000 rom, of corse it didnt work but when i flashed it back with the T959UVJFD file it worked.... i dont know if it would work out for you i just wanted to share the story... good luck
thank you, unfotunatelly i am stuck with HW keys problem againm!!!!
i follow the steps from the post 4 from @Alkaloid and now from dead i am at froyo and will hang here for a while cause at least for a week dont want to flash nothing. Boy what a day, 12 hours fixing this samsung!!!
Ivuso, how did you get in to download mode? I tried everything from every single thread here that mentions how to get in to download mode..
Odin is the way to go..it saved me too

how did u manage to do that
You do not have to exchange it the same thing happened to me. You just need to use odin to flash the stock rom onto it. Its really easy. Youtube it
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
if you have the hardware keys lock the only way to get to download modwe is through odin. For me worked this.
start odin, fil pit and pda
remove battery
usb in the computer
hold volume buttons
put battery in - phone is showing just the battery charging status
disconnect usb and than fast connect back
now you are able to flash froyo from the the 4th post in this thread, once finished you will be in download mode but need to reboot with adb cause hardwate "enter" button will not work
GOODLUCK
so she bought a new phone without even powering it on.. she came to my house and later said it was stuck on a boot up image that read team whiskey, im no phone buff so i have no idea what going on. i put out a help post on craigslist and i was referred here for help..
so please let me know whats going on with this
BTW its a samsung vibrant
Awesome. At least she made the right choice in purchasing the phone from someone who used the right ROM.
What you're going to need to do is either get the phone into Recovery Mode or ODIN back to stock.
I'm guessing you will need to ODIN back to stock as it's stuck on the boot screen. Do a search in the Development forum and look for the latest ODIN package where it includes the ODIN program and the necessary files to bring the phone back to stock (.tar, .pit, etc.)
There are walkthroughs on how to run the program as well.
If it says Team Whiskey then it probably has the newest Bionix ROM. One of the best to have on it. If it is the first boot after the cache is cleared it can take 10 minutes for it's first boot to rebuild the cache. If it is the first boot after the ROM was flashed you should wait a full ten minutes for the ROM to complete its initial setup and then reboot it. Since you don't know I would wait anyhow, it can not hurt. DON'T TOUCH THE PHONE DURING THESE INITIAL TEN MINUTES OR IT WILL BE BUGGY.

However, if its stuck at boot as the OP stated, then Odin to stock is probably going to be his best bet. The third link that was posted by T313C0mun1s7 is the place to start.
You have some work to do OP, you're best bet is to Odin back to stock, and you will find the resources needed in the Vibrant Bible linked above. Good luck.
Bottom line Franky is this:
It's not un-fixable. The posters here are correct in that if you can see the logo you're seeing, then it's more than likely fully recoverable and can be a great phone. The post here that has provided you links is a very good one. Best thing you can do is read all the "noob" guides/FAQ/bible threads that are stickied to the top of most of the categories in the Vibrant section. They contain a TON of useful info. If you can use a PC and have the correct USB cable, you can get it done.
And if you do get it back up and running, and she got a deal on it, she might not be so stupid after all!
A quick background for you on terms and what's what since you are not familar with the phone
The Vibrant was originally sold with a software operating system Android 2.1 The version of that system was JFD which, the letters are code for version and release date. So, when you read all the numbers/letters they are talking about newer versions... the latest and greatest.
I would 1st try turning on the phone and let it sit for 10-15 min and see if the previous person did not complete the installation process. If it goes to the home screen, then you are good to go. If not, then you will need to Odin back to stock.
If you can see a logo, the the phone will respond to software via Odin. Odin is a software you load on your desktop computer , it opens a menu that kinda looks like an custom excel sheet. In the upper left corner when you plug in the phone to connect to the desktop with Odin already open,it will say com 0 , com8 or something what it reads out is less important what is important is it recognizes the phone. From there the noob guide will explain everything else.
This is a super phone, especially because you can modify it so easily and it is REAL hard to permanently brick (permanently break). Read the bible and members S15274N noob guide......... his sticky in general is pretty complete and very easy to understand. If you get stuck come back to the forum and we will help you solve. Good luck
In the Noob guide it will have the drivers Odin and the other utilities you will need.
odin back to stock
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803492
How much did she pay for it? If it was like $500 +, then yea, that was really stupid but if she got it for under $150 because it was supposedly "broken", then she had unintentionally made a smart buy. The seller would've been the stupid one for not researching on how to revive their Vibrant.
Send me a PM and I'll be glad to help!!

thanks to all you guys
but i think this phone has taken a turn for the worse,
i was away for the day visiting my son, so i was not able to try and repair the phone..
well i came home to see this dumb bi**ch standing with the phone..
apparently she had her brother try and repair it and now it wont even show the team whiskey logo. all it does is show the vibrant/samsung image then it shuts off and repeat over and over
if anyone here is near anaheim california i'd gladly appreciate any help from you
This phone is really resilient, and if you're still getting images on the screen, you can still fix it. The trick is to get it into download mode, which can be hit or miss, and may take several tries. There are different methods posted around the internet, but for mine, I hold the vol+ and vol- and then plug in the usb cable connected to the computer. If it goes into download mode, then you're home free. Once you Odin it back to stock, you can go anywhere from there.

Its hard to say what the possible cause could be, it could range anywhere to bad file downloads for what you were using to unbrick ( I assume you were using odin) all the way to hardware failure. I personally have never had that problem but if for whatever reason you aren't able to get your phone working again complain to samsung as it was their software that messed up your phone.

thats true ive already tried complaining to tmobile but samsung would say the same thing because i bought the phone off of ebay so i dont have any warranties i really hope that this method u showed me can help
This method will get you back to stock. IF you want to update through minikies, then you will probably have to update to Ji6 first after doing this But this will resolve your problems
1. Download Eugenes 'Froyo that does not brick' file.
2. Extract the files.
3. Open Odin, plug in your phone, then put it into download mode.
4. load the PIT file in appropriate area.
5. load the .tar file in the PDA area.
6. DO NOT check 're-partition'.
7. Click start, let it finish. Your phone will load and reboot into stock recovery. It will error out again. DONT panic! This is what's supposed to happen.
8. Now, pull your battery.
9. Load the JFD rom for the vibrant'.
10. Extract the files.
11. Once again, open Odin, plug in your phone, put into download mode.
12. Load the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
13. THIS TIME you want to check the 're-partition' box.
14. Now click start, let it finish, and this time your phone will load up just fine!
15. Then, root the phone and you can flash your new Rom.
doing this method will get everything back to normal and the phone will work just like it did right out of the box
also i would like to add that i have been trying odin i havent got any sleep at all trying to fix this phone ODIN SUX and im a bit upset that ive tried this over and over and it does work..
it wants me to get into usb debugging mode how do i do that if i cant get the phone to cut on?/
sigh now i got red text and the phone wont go into download mode again can anyone please help mee??/
Also, you will need to pull the sim and the sd card 1st before Odin back as long as Odin recognizes the phone you are ok, if Odin gives you problems you may want to try heimdall it works the same but sometimes just using a different program helps.
mr okal can u pls send me links to your method pls idk where to get the files

hold vol up and power only from a powered off state. this should bring you to a screen with red-orange writting. from there hold down vol up\down and power and that should bring you to dl mode. from there you need to use eugenes froyo that doesnt brick.
ive tried that already idk if i have the right eugenes froyo file but i got the phone to turn on and it does exactly what i told u guys it boots up and everything is ok except usb mode and my computer doesnt recognize it at all then once i turn the phone off it doesnt come back on unless i try the unbricking method all over again
it also whipes everything i had saved away.. Can someoen pls assist me with this?
i called samsung they offered to fix it because i have a warranty but there has to be a way to fix this at home i need my phone now to be honest. samsung will take forever to fix this and ship back..

2) this is not android development. you'll likely get much better help in Q&A, and less flames.
Weird. Try taking out battery, plug in phone to computer with ODIN open, hold vol up + down and power, put back battery and let go of power. Should return you to Download Mode and you can just ODIN back to Stock JFD again.
This is some type of Download mode alternative. Do not worry, it will easily connect to your computer just like download mode would.
did you mess with the framework? I remember i did and i got that exact same screen, i can't read what the red text says but mine said blablabla.png missing etc.
I put it on download mode like the guy above me siad and odin'd.

I have had that one ime before today, now 2nd time. First time I just kept trying the tar & pit files (the new set that started going around after people were on Gingerbread). I did write what files I used that worked. I was hoping to save time today so i came here to see if there's any mention of it. If wouldn't.mind posting the files you used that would be great.
I've been in so many different modes with this phone. The great thing is if you just keep trying you can get it back.
If anyone knows what files are bring the phone back from stuck at logo it would be appreciated. I know from what I've experienced just keep trying with safe flesh and eventually it works.

First time I have hard bricked a Samsung phone and would like to know where I went wrong. All we were trying to accomplish was to root the stock rom and change the revovery to CWM Touch. There was no attempt to upgrade to anything other than the stock rom. Here are the steps I followed:
Powered off phone
Inserted USB Jig (which powers on phone in Download Mode)
Started up Odin 1.85
Loaded cwm-touch-i717-120414.tar.md5 in the PDA slot
Plugged in phone (recognized as Com7)
Flashed
Phone rebooted after the flash and I let it sit until it timed out just to make sure everything seemed okay.
Powered off phone
Inserted USB Jig (which powers on phone in Download Mode)
Started up Odin 1.85
Loaded att_note_root.tar in the PDA section
Plugged in phone (recognized as Com7)
Flashed
Phone rebooted after the flash and seemed okay. On this boot a couple of things asked for root permission but I cant remember which apps. I attached the running phone to my computer and connected using USB Mass Storage. I copied flash_counter_reset_att.zip to the root of the SD card. Checked the MD% hash after copying to the phone. I powered off the phone.
Powered on the phone holding the Vol +/Vol-/Power to boot into CWM recovery
Chose install zip from sdcard
Chose install zip from internal sdcard
Chose flash_counter_reset_att.zip
Chose yes to flash
After the flash completed I went back and chose reboot system now
Here is where all hell broke loose. It was just a black screen and not recognizable by Odin. The phone is now on it's way to MobileTechVideos to get JTAG unbricked.
So my big question is what went wrong or what step did I miss?

I believe the "ONLY" thing you did (wrong?) was the att flash counter zip -Eliminate the Att step - there is a rooting method that does not cause the flash counter to be tripped (i believe it's non touch cwm - then flash the touch cwm - then flash Roms to your Heart's desire) I'm not really sure the flash counter issue really matters - At&t only cares if there is physical damage to the phone because I believe they just re-flash the phone and sell it again.
I'm Mostly responding to say that JTAG is Beastly and your phone will be better than brand new when you get it back - the status of your order won't change until they ship it back (which for me was 7 days), but don't panic (like I did) they are Good & Fast - So relax it cost you $50 & A week, but Hell the phone cost $700 so All Will Soon be well.
Also double check that it was the correct zip files for the Note - I bricked my Skyrocket because I flashed a Note Rom by accident (Thanks JTAG ) - I've got Too Many Samsung Devices - Hope This Helps.

I have no issues with MobileTechVideos as I bought one of the first USB jigs when I got my day one Captivate. I am sure it will come back solid.
I did double check that I was using files specific to the Note, but I must say, you Note users have one finicky phone. I will stick with my Skyrocket. I'll look over the instruction for the non counter increasing root in the forums when the phone gets back.
Thanks
You didn't mention if you were able to get back to Clockwork. If you hold volume up and down while pressing power, it takes you straight into Clockwork regardless of the black screen. If so then you aren't bricked. Or if you still want to use Odin, hold volume down and power to get to download mode which is also Odin mode. Did you try these commands using physical button combinations and they did not work? If you didn't try them then you may be spending unnecessary money. If you did try all these things, then maybe you were hard bricked. Of all the Android phones I've owned and I've rooted all of them, I've never been unable to recover. I've only seen one hard brick from a coworker that had a galaxy s on tmobile that would not power on or charge after trying to root.
why did you even need a jig? turn on phone while holding down volume button.

+1. I'm so confused now. Maybe he tried to unbrick it first, then the phone turned hard bricked.
The flash counter is kind of a joke, isn't it? I mean, if the tech is looking to see if you flashed something, he cares that you flashed something, not how many times you flashed it.
I think the jig added another variable to the equation, and was unnecessary. None of the threads for rooting required one.
Also, i'd check to see if a MD5 is available for the files you used for the flash. Check the files you used and see if that was the issue.
If the note is new, and really is hardbricked, he's hopefully within the 30 day window. Just take it back for an exchange and tell them it stopped booting.
There is a thread started by ncoder in the international note general forum that has been near the top for a long time. You are not alone. Samsung actually responded!
Edit: Samsung desperately needs a stock failure. Maybe they would fix your phone for free so they could do a JTAG core dump that matches their sources etc.

Would not go into Clockwork Recovery or Odin with any key combination, simply a black screen.

why did you even need a jig? turn on phone while holding down volume button.

Jig is much faster, and works everytime, nuff said.

+1. I'm so confused now. Maybe he tried to unbrick it first, then the phone turned hard bricked.

Nope, started with a working phone and after applying the counter reset, which works beautifully on the SkyRocket BTW, that's when it bricked.

Thanks for the info.

I am beginning to agree that the counter seems irrelevant and wholly unnecessary.
Jig simply puts any Samsung phone that is off into Download mode, it is the same as the key combination only easier.
I always check MD5 hashes after I copy to the internal SD card.
I'm with the others on this... Flash counter reset was designed to work on ICS and not GB, I do believe that's where things went bad.

I have no clue if the info applies to you. I just was hoping you still had possibly useful data in your phone. Saving face with your cousin was a side benefit.

the only other step you forgot is to create a backup after flashing cwm

I have same problem

Started up Odin 1.85
Loaded att_note_root.tar in the PDA section

I was under the impression that the jig didn't work with the note, I recall someone else bricked their phone using one a while back

I agree. I have never even read of using a jig except for unbricking. Coincidence maybe but i wouldnt risk it again if you get a replacement
