Recently i formated my sd card and phone memory. After that, i put all my music, and photos back on the card. I flashed viperrom 2.0.2 and know no music player can load up my music for playback. They all say, searching sd card but never move on from there. I was wondering if anyone knows whats wrong. I dont think its a problem with the music files since i can access and play them from any file explorer. Any help will be greatly apreciated. Thanks

I have been having the exact same issue as you. I have tried all of the recommended fixes I could find on the net including: deleting all instances of the .nomedia file at the root level followed by clearing the media storage data, reformatted my 16gb micro sd card using all available format methods (erasing phone storage within android, mounting sd card to the pc, putting sd card directly into pc sd slot using adaptor, etc.), removed and remounted sd card, unrooted and rerooted, installed various different 2.13 roms (all of which give me the same issue, recovering back to an earlier base rom and everything works fine), used the Rescan Media app from the market, tried a different micro sd card. etc, etc, etc. The phone will still not recognize the media files (i can see and play them through any file explorer such as ES, Astro, etc.). I am at a loss and don't know what else to try. I am glad I am finding more and more people with this issue though as it will hopefully give it some more attention with those on here who actually know how to diagnose and correct this problem!!

Ok so now my problem got even more weird! Trying to be creative, I created a new folder on my card called All Music. I moved all my music from the Music folder to this new folder and now all of the music appears (although some of the tags/album art are now messed up). I can listen to and see all the music in any music player (ubermusic, google music, etc.) However, as soon as I rescan the media, they all disappear!! WTF is going on here?
Check for a nomedia file and delete it if you find it
Factory reset did the trick for me working fine know

When I purchased my Galaxy S2 all my photo's and music were accessable using the built in apps Gallery and Music from the external sdcard, these apps can no longer locate these files, I have formatted the sdcard both in the phone and on my PC, I have also tried 4 different sdcards including a new 16gig Lexar, I can access the photo's using "Quickpic" with no problem, and some downloaded music apps will locate the music, can anyone help with this problem??
You could try this app here Rescan Media. Maybe it helps.
thanks I have tried but no success I'm afraid
strange i have only experienced this while there was unsuported file - but i say this is not your case.
did you froze the media scanner? or did you remove any app mate?
no didn't freeze or remove any apps, I have reinstalled rom a couple of time in case I did something wrong, I would think that should put things back to normal?
yes if you did a clean wipe - while installing
Just out of interest I went back to the store with 3 of the sdcards and tried them in a new GTI9100M, the sdcards could not be found, tried brand new card it also could not be found, seems very odd eh?
My suggestion would be to back up data on phone Copy external sd card files to PC .
Format SD card in windows as FAT32 .
factory reset phone Wipes phone .
That will at least rule out software/firmware fault .
jje
Try MediaFix in the market.

I tried all the suggestions without success, thanks guys for all your help, I will wipe the phone again when I return home then I may have to return it to the store

Copied a couple of GB of photos to my External SDCard.Rebooted phone, nothing showed up,but all videos and music that were on the card were still showing in Video Player,Gallery and Music Player. So I unmounted the card via settings ,remounted .now nothing shows up at all.
If I browse through Root Explorer I can see all my media, and when I look in Settings/Storage the card shows up.
I thought perhaps it was the card(only bought last week) could be the problem, so I stuck my old MicroSD card in which has some media on it, same thing.Any ideas?
Should have said. When I take a photo it is stored on the micro SD card. That works OK
Is it just teh gallery that causes an issue?
If so try what this guy suggests here to do a rescan of the media:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27787690&postcount=3
No, nothing shows up.No videos, no music and no photos
I decided to reset the phone (from Settings) .Set it up again and all seems well again
Today I added some more albums to my external SDCard.Again, after doing so,none of the new mp3s showed up.Removed SDCard, and like before, NOTHING on the SDCard shows up.So I thought I would do what I did last time and wipe the phone. This time though it didn't do the trick, and nothing is showing up.Even reinstalled the original stock ROM,still nothing.
Have tried with a couple of different cards with the same outcome, nothing on SDCard appearing on phone(I can see the card in My Files and browse all the individual files OK).
Assuming there is something wrong with the phone , I guess all I can do is return to store, however I did unlock the phone using Voodoo Unlocker. Can this be reversed?
Can anybody help??
Either with the SDCard problem or know whether the Voodoo Unlock is reversible??
TIA
This problem has resurfaced.Installed Omega 8.1 Rom .Opened Music Player., nothing there.Same for Gallery and Video Player.
The thing is I downloaded PowerAmp,added the folder that has my music in and it works fine. Open QuickPic and all my pictures are shown, as are my videos which I can play in Video Player.
I can transfer a song to my internal memory, it shows up. Transfer it back to extSDCard, it disappears.
After flashing a stock ROM the problem is still happening.
The strange thing is ,the phone recognises there is an external card. When I open the camera app, I get the pop up asking me if I want to store my photos on the sdcard.I do, and it works fineand any picture I take on the phone shows in Gallery). It just seems to be a problem with any media. Its doing my head in.
Please save me from having to go buy an iPhone4s, because as boring as it may be, it does,as they say "just work"
This sounds software-related to me. Have you tried flashing a stock ROM and testing without installing any applications to the device? It's possible that one of the apps you have installed is causing some sort of problem.
It is still possible that the external SD card has a fault though. Have you tried a different one? Additionally, why are you using the external card rather than the internal memory?
All roms for me never find video or mp3 on external sd card .
Notable that Kies places Video in DCIM/Camera folder if you ask it to transfer filers to ext sd card and likewise music on ext card is media folder .
jje
yes, tried 3 sdcards.
Have 10GB of music. 2GB of photos. So I need to use the external SDCard ,as I would already be out of room.
This has worked fine. The last week or so there has been no problem.I have been flashing ROMS, adding media to SDCard with no issue.
How about apps? Have you tried doing this with no other applications installed?
I havent, but I am going to do a full wipe flash again without installing any apps.

If you do that and it works ok, just install one app at a time until you find the culprit. Then uninstall it and email the developer!

Well that cant be right can it. There surely would be little point in having an external SDCard in that case. You cant put apps on it, you cant put music or video on it? (well not if you want to use stock apps)
Well, that didnt work.Fresh install of ROM, no apps installed. No music/Photos.
So thats stock ROM, Omega 7.1 (last known working with that ROM) and Omega 8.1 flashed probably half a dozen times over the last 24+ hours.
The only music and vid that appear are the Samsung installed demo ones.

Weird. I have music and media stored on my external SD card, and everything reads and functions fine (on Wanamlite using Ninphetamin3).
Have you tried changing kernels?

No I havent. If it is something I should try I will have to have a read up. I have only rooted and flashed ROMs, never changed Kernels.
Edit:
I have used drag & drop when phone is connected to PC, I have used a card reader.Card has been formatted in the phone, in the card reader.
I have used Easy Phone Sync ,just tried Kies and that syncs fine to the external card.
It surely must be a software problem.

Definitely try flashing a new kernel - have a look through the dev sections.
It's worth reformatting the sdcard in the phone as well, using the phone software to do it - that should eliminate any weird permissions-related problems.
Hey guys,
I've tried he stock music player, mixzing and xplay and nothing can find the music on my SD Card. I've used nearly every current Rezound Rom and they all have this same behavior. I've tried reformatting the SD, clearing data from all music/media search related apps, remounting the SD, fixing permissions, different folders, upper/lower case folder names, etc.
I've searched and found similar threads for different devices but no answers that worked.
Ideas anyone?
Thanks!
Use double twist. It's like iTunes for every device but apple. It'll let you load your music library and make it easier to load music in the future.
Also for reference my music is in sdcard/extsd/music/artists/album/songs
All I did was connect to my phone via USB, open the drive letter right after HTC STORAGE (the next drive letter should be the ext SD card), then make a directory called Music (capitalized), and copy the MP3 files to it, moved 451 files and then disconnected... Everyone show up in the stock music player and WinAmp, although it did take a few minutes for the list to populate.
I am pretty sure when you copy music to the SD card, it has to be in a directory called "Music", you can't just copy them to the root of the card.
I too have always just put all my music in a "Music" folder on the root of my sd, however depending on the device I've had players find music directly at root.
Have you tried using a like manager like astro to navigate to the files and play them directly?

You should be able to copy them everywhere and the music player should find it. I have music in "AmazonMP3" on the root, "musicdownload" where I get my music from Box, "Music" and even a song or two at root and "My Documents\Music" as well as a few in the "Download" folder as I've downloaded through http.
I'd say clear data from the music app in app management and let it rescan the card for data. Also, the phone can read WMA, MP3, MP4, M4A and maybe OGG. If you're trying some other formats I don't know if it'll see it.
P.S. On a funny note, the captcha just had me type TWATUS ... LOL
ROM Manager Sucks
I'll bet you have ROM Manager installed! The last two ROM Manager updates (including todays) for some dumb reason put a file called ".nomedia" in the root of the SD Card. This file prevents all media below it from being indexed.
Browse your SD Card and look for the file ".nomedia" in the root. Delete it and you will see all your media again.

Thanks for all your suggestions guys. I don't have a .nomedia file anywhere on the phone. I have all the music in a "Music" folder. I've tried everything in this thread as well as a dozen other things from other threads. It just doesn't work.
Weird thing is... the Gallery also can't see any photos/pics on the SD Card. It makes me think its a format problem or something? My SD is formatted FAT32? Should it be different?
How much extra "Junk" do you have on the SD Card... I just helped someone earlier today who had moved a microSD card from a Thunderbolt to the Rezound and it had a lot of extra stuff (old Nandroids, TiBu backups, and lots of other various files) and had the same issues. Copied everything off to a PC and formatted the card in the phone, then copied over the same music in the same folder and it was recognized like normal. Not saying this is the fix, but just did it this morning and it worked fine for someone else.
look in google play for a sd rescan app. Have that scan your card, that will help sometimes.

OMG!!! This worked! I had moved everything off the SD and formatted with the phone like a dozen times but always put everything back all at once. When the only thing on the card was music it found it right off.
Thanks!!

Major thanks for your suggestion. I have an HTC One X+ with stock rom (it's new, I haven't got round to customising yet ) I copied Music folder on my old One X to the new One X+.
The stock music app could not find any of my music. Using the sd rescan app worked and made it find it. I was getting very annoyed with it, so thanks again.

This worked for me, thanks! Songs in my SDCARD\Music folder were not showing up in any music player, but the second I put them into SDCARD\DCIM\100ANDRO, they showed up in Play music! Why is this?
Hi guys,
I've been frustrated with this issue for a while. By using any kind of file manager, I can see my sd card (under /storage/sdcard1). Can copy file to and from. The same goes when I connect the phone to my PC. But when I try to read music from the sd card, it seems that non of the music apps can see the SD. The same goes with the gallery, can't see any pics from the SD. Tried to clear data from media service but still no luck.
I am using RR Rom, before when I used GB, didn't have any problem.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!!!

Redmi Note 4
MIUI version: 9.0.5.0
Andriod version: 7.0 NRD90M
Recently purchased a new SD card 128gb.
Its recognised and picked up by the phone, i can transfer files to it via USB, however on then trying to play music it will glitch out and lag, replaying the same section of song over and over, it doesnt even play the song you choose but a different song completely.
I can't make new folders or edit the sd card from within the phone. I've tried this on file explorer and ES file explorer, neither work.
I've re-formatted the SD card through the phone and via a PC and yet the same problem persists.
When i go to Settings>Storage the SD card shows as reading and gives me the options of unmounting or erasing and formatting, both of which i've tried also.
I've tried multiple music platforms also with no success. Its almost as if the files are being corrupted when they are being played.
Please have some solution to this madness! The SD card works fine in the pc and files are not corrupted? only when it is in the phone is there a problem. Further more when i move the music from the SD card to the internal storage it plays fine without any lagging or glitches?
Many thanks

Sadly, you cannot write stuff to thw sd card, that is make folder or copy using the phone, *without root* so that's the reason why you are not able to make folders. I guess with nougat you are restricted to some extent, but not so that you are unable to play music. Maybe thats just miui, i am gunna flash miui in some days and will let you know if that happens with me too.

Hmm, thats annoying. I shall have to try out nougat, gunna take a while to download tho..
That would be handy if you could tell me if you face the same problem? Do you think because you cannot write to this card putting music files on there via a pc would then stop the music being played? it doesn't make much sense!

Ok so here is the conclusion, but firstly there are somethings which i want you to know. So yesterday i downloaded the stable miui 9 build from the website and it was downloaded successfully, but when i tried to install it. Twrp said the file is corrupted. So today once again, i starter the download of the build, and to my bad luck, it said corrupted again. Nevermind i had the December build (7.12.67 developer weekly) so i installed it. And now as of sound, i had a music file on my sd card, and I played it with the default music app, and it played with no errors. Then i tried it with es file manager (no root provided) and there also it was good. Now after i was done testing with miui, i installed resurrection remix 5.8.5 and here also it works well, the music is played without any error. So i guess this seems to be a bug of the software , maybe? Btw i have a sandisk 8 gb regular sd card (no high speed or class 10). Maybe it's the huge size of sd card, because of which the music stutters, since the music app has to actually scan whole of the sd card for files. On a side note, i have ordered a pair of 64 gb otg pendrives, which are gonna come next week. So i will check if theres an error there, and will report.
