[Q] CM10 on GS3 lose feature such as smart stay and etc - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Would i lose the gs3 features such as smart stay, direct call and etc if i end up rooting and installing CM10 on gs3?

Yes.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2

So cm10 is basically a stock jellybean? What other things do u get from it

Text message popups, ability to modify status bar, change theme of the phone if you don't like stock. Just the few things I've found using cm10

It's kinda sad. stock has some great features that you'll miss out on. Personally I got a modified stock rom (foxhound). Best of two worlds

You can get smart stay with smart stay ex from play store and super video for the floating video feature

How to show a line beneath bad spelled words like in iOS

Since I have my SGS3 a few weeks ago there's something missing and I don't know why. I'm talking about the in line spell checking.
In ICS when you misspell a word a red dotted line appears underneath that word, so you can easily see the mistake and fix it. This is also present in iOS.
Why don't we have that on our SGS3? I really need it to easily check for any mistakes when writing emails and other stuff.
Right now there is no way to see when a word is incorrectly written. I have to re-read all my text again to see if it's correct and it takes to long compared to just looking for the red dots.
It's it just me or is there a way of enabling this feature? I downloaded the ICS keyboard from the market and it doesn't have this much needed feature.
I don't understand why no one seems to find this to be a problem.

No its not. Ive gone over different keyboard settings many many times looking for it and I havent seen any option to enable this. If you know it tell me which setting it is exactly.

Anyone? There must be a way to enable this feature.

samsung keyboard, settng, predictive text, spell correction
Thanks but that's not what I mean. I still don't get any visible sign on a misspelled word. I'm not talking about spell checker.
What I want is something like iOS when you misspell a word and a red dotted line appears beneath the word. That way it's very easy to check for misspelled word on very long notes.
I think I saw this same feature on the ICS keynote. A line appears beneath the mistakes word and it gives you a list of optional words to change to.
This does not appear on my SGS3. Maybe it's because it's not stock Android. How can I get this?
Thanks.

No, no, no. It doesn't need to work like iOS. I'm saying that stock Android has this feature but I don't see it on the SGS3 and that is weird. Stock Android shows you a line beneath any word misspelled. Why not the SGS3?
There has to be a way to show it.

What? He doesn't want all of android to be like iOS just. A feature that is present in stock ICS & jb ROMs. I have it in cm10 I guess Samsung removed it. You could always flash cm9/cm10.

Use the aosp keyboard, get it from a cm or cm10 rom zip.
look in system/app folder.

I would like that feature to lol I'm a terrible speller and have to figure it out with autocorrect.
Another reason why I will have to root I suppose.

Here is latinIME.apk from CM10

Download it and use a root explorer to move it to system/app

Why dont you try to download the ics keyboard from the play store. It is similar to one present in stock ics and cm....it should give what you want...

I've already downloaded the ICS and JB keyboards and still that feature is not present. It's not present strangely on any keyboard: Swype, swiftkey, go keyboard, etc. It's actually really weird. It's an essential feature and it comes with stock Android. I don't know if this problem is only with Samsung or if HTC has it too.
Will moving the keyboard file to system really work? I will try it.
My last resort would be to use CM10 I guess.

[Q] video app with similar stock features?

I want to put an AOKP rom on my phone but there are a few little things I like about the stock Samsung Android apps. For one I like the smart alarms on the Samsung clock app but I've got that covered. I also like the video app that gives you a button to rotate the screen even if you have auto rotate off which I usually do. Is there an app that anyone knows of on the marketplace that can do this like stock?

Thinking about going back to Sam stock

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to get rid of them annoying water noises and get clicks and also is it possible to get a stock looking drop bar? I know I can get the keyboard
Thanks
Sent from my Galaxy S3 using xda app-developers app
seems to me that you have applied some custom framework. Which ROM and framework do you have?
Generally, for disabling water noise sound and click sound go to Settings>Sound, scroll to the end, and un-toggle 'Keytones','Touch sounds' and 'Screen Lock sound'
I like the clicks and that I just don't like how Samsung love to mess about with things that are fine how they are they seem to make things worse when "if it ain't broke don't touch it" I am on super nexus but it has minor bugs here and there and I'd like the stock apps eg all share and have better battery and ui
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
my advice is that you should switch to ROM that is more stable and has TW framework(because without you wont be able to have samsung apps such as all share because they are implemented in Samsung's TouchWiz framework), and you can install some launcher such as apex, holo, etc, and preserve that android-stock look if you are aiming for it
I'm mainly after stock aosp sounds I can sort KB and launchers

I prefer swype like interface.
I have used both swiftkey (before swype-like interface) and afterwards, swype, thumb keyboard, and Slideit.
I prefer using swiftkey slightly.
Swype is probably the best in regards to sliding.
Slideit is nice but has a slight lag that messes me up.
Swiftkey has some predictive stuff which can both help or hinder.
I think you can't go wrong with any of the above 3.
For tablets, I just use thumb keyboard.
for me either stock 4.2 keyboard or samsung galaxy s4's keyboard love them both
I like the stock keyboard and Google keyboard from the market. The stock keyboard is tough to type with after having a number of drinks

Haha. I use SwiftKey, in Pitch color scheme. Jelly Bean keyboard https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jlsoft.inputmethod.latin.jelly.free is great too. Just like the stock Google keyboard but with more secondary functions on the keys.
As someone who purchased both swype and swiftkey, I personally use the Samsung keyboard, though I must add that I took the apk from the international version and changed some things to make it work how I wanted it to. Currently I m testing the Google keyboard from the 4.3 leak and its pretty good, haven't used it very long though.

I've been a swype user since day 1. Even when I had my GS3 but I'm loving the stock Samsung keyboard on the GS4.
Pay for SwiftKey. Best app purchase I have ever made.

Wish Swype would for allow for customer autotexts (abbreviations). I use about 100 of these daily.
I used to use swiftkey before I came to the s4 but now I dont seem to think it looks good on the phone it just looks plan so as of now im using stock even though I serverly hate the keyboard because I keep making mistakes on it.
Have you guys tried touchpal?

Samsung stock keyboard....that top row of numbers is awesome especially for entering passwords over and over
Sent from my Xoom using xda app-developers app
I've used SwiftKey for nearly a year now. I did try the 4.2 stock keyboard for a week or two but found my way back to SwiftKey. The predictive capabilities are phenomenal and can really save you time.
I like the stock Samsung key board. The numbers on top are great. My only concern is the dictionary. I have added words to the Samsung dictionary, but they still dont show up when texting. Has anyone had success with adding words to the dictionary?

[OFFICIAL] 4.3 Update - Changes/Differences/Discussion

Now that the OTA is finally rolling out and people are updating, I think it's a good time for a thread about the differences aside from what's mentioned in the changelog. It'll give a little insight as to what's changed/added.
So feel free to start listing out what's changed!

Don't notice anything new right off the bat with the camera. It did take a while to update the firmware though. Still have to dig around
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
Here is a summary of changes I noticed:
UI is smoother than before with no hiccups yet, but that may be a placebo effect.
Notification panel toggles look shorter and waste less vertical space. They cannot be turned off anymore. Now you can only select which ones can be scrolled through horizontally before you have to open the full toggles drawer.
Default font seems to have been updated, though I am not sure whether I was on Samsung Sans beforehand and it simply reset the font.
Upon further inspection, it seems as if my font choice has been reset to default from Samsung Sans.
Camera firmware update, but I don't immediately see any changes.
When viewing photos in gallery or camera app, the date taken is shown briefly on the bottom left.
GPS location and Verizon location services have been merged into one option, it is no longer possible to disable Verizon location services if you want to use GPS.
Blocking mode, reading mode added.
Wifi notification can be disabled.
Play store updated to new sliding drawer, version 4.4.2.1 (this may have just been a coincidentally simultaneous update on my part).
There is a link in the app drawer to install KNOX, which looks like some sort of secure VM based on the text in the app.
NFL Mobile added (may have been in MI1 and I just didn't notice, but it is in my app drawer).
Contacts list is more compact (white space removed), you can now see approx. 9 contacts at a time. There is no scroll bar anymore, and the letters to quickly jump through the list are permanently visible.
Wifi location polling when wifi is off (as per Android 4.3).
Calculator is fullscreen (no status bar) with no way to change it, pretty sure this didn't happen before.
The stock music player can now play the mp3 files I have saved on the device. It always said that the files were unsupported beforehand, and I did not change them at all.
The dialer doesn't seem to lag as much when looking up contacts as you type (666 for "MOM"), but this might have come with the overall UI. It also doesn't lock up the phone for half a second when initiating a call anymore.
With Air View on, a few of the options in Developer Options are highlighted when hovering over them (not sure where this came from or why it is there, maybe testing for their 4.4 build, but I noticed it when going through the settings).
Clock app UI updated.
"Disable" in application manager is renamed to "Turn off."
That is all I can see immediately. I do not use stock launcher, keyboard, browser, or email so I did not check these.
Just quick question for those that got it, one of you said your font got reset did ajuthing else reset or get wiped?

Developer Option Reset
There is a bug with the new camera. I have all the animation and transitions set to off in developer options. Transition animation scale gets set to 1x every time the camera is launched. Super annoying.
Thanks for such a complete changelog!
