Sprint Galaxy S2 Jelly Bean Leaked, Our Device Soon? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Just when I thought there is no way we will see a 4.1.1, an older US Samsung device gets the leak and it looks like they gave it the real touchwiz UX, instead of the garbage gingerbread-lookalike ICS upgrade.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1932146
Wow! There is hope for i717 after all?

Man I just opened the app thinking there was a leak, close to home I like. Good find.

If they did that phone they must plan it for us but mind you Att is the real people that will let it happen so with the note 2 just around the corner who knows..
I would like to think they will update our OG Note. So customers will be happy I'll gladly tell someone to buy a note 2 or note 3 if I know they will keep it current with updates.
I know we just got ICS but the update was not as full featured as our international counterpart.. so that makes me worry a bit.

Sprint is also getting note 2, that's why I think there is hope. Looking at the screens, it is the real deal!

Sprint doesnt have the Note1 though...
Sure they have the S2 and S3 and the S2 appears to still be getting JB, but Sprint has to tout something that could potentially retain its customers... "Our network sux, but we still have unlimited data, and we dish out updates before the other carriers!"
AT&T on the other hand has the Note 1, but would make more money off of the new phone and new contracts. I am not optimistic that they would get us JB on the Note any time soon, if ever.

There are people, who like me are still underwater as far as the ETF goes (even if they, unlike me, would pay their account off in order to get the next Note). It is in AT&T's interest to offer the update to current, contract locked customers if they are interested in continuing to get their business when their contract is up.

Understood, but of AT&T's customers, how many do you think are really adept enough to care about updates and actually care about a point release upgrade?

US Release Date and Price?

Getting a new phone for my birthday, on the 27th. I either pick one now or wait for something else, which would be the Samsung Galaxy S2.
Now, if I pick something now, I have no idea what I would get, but I really wanna wait for the Galaxy S2. That being said, I can't get it if it's not coming out for like 6 months, but if it's only gonna be like 2 months, then that's okay.(For US that is...I would buy from UK but price are showing $650+)
As for the price, I don't have any upgrades available, but since it's my birthday, parents will pay for around $150. I start work tomorrow at Target(starting pay at $7.50 too!) and so I hope to save for that, but I don't know if I'll have enough if it's gonna be like $600.
So what do you guys think about the release date and price?
Everything is pointing to within two months
As for a US-Specific version? Who knows. ATT could drag their feet on their model.
The US models are typically cheaper than the international models though- the original SGS was the same way. International version/unlocked rates are $100-200 higher than the Captivate here in the US.

Well, considering it's a quad band device I'm hoping the US carriers don't demand changes.
My captivates screen just cracked(nasty fall) no insurance so i got att retention to give me an early upgrade and have the htc inspire for $75 with a 2 year. I will have another upgrade in april i plan on using for the SGS2 but who knows if it will be out by then. If it isnt then im selling my inspire useing my upgrade on a iphone and then reselling it and bam should have enough for the god of all phones the SGS2.
well thats my plan anyway

I wouldn't waste my time with feature-deprived, carrier-bloat, delayed-updates, contracts, or any of the headaches that come with the US cell carriers.
I will personally never buy a contract phone again. You lose all leverage against the carrier. For example, my family has reduced price cable and free movie channels because we threatened to switch providers.

Heres why i Think contracts give you more benefits and leverage.
they dont want you to cancel in contract or not they will still do the same to help you. ATT bloatwhere is the worst tho.
-Never get angry
-be kind to the rep(treat them how you would like to be treated)
-tell them you dont want to leave att but you dont really have a choice if you cant get your issue resolved.
-if the rep still doesnt budge tell them you want to cancel service. this will get you transfered to the save team a.k.a retention. Now these people have the power.
-once you have retention online chances are you will get what you want and more trust me.
I used to work for att. I know all the ins and outs. Retention department is key. ATT gives credits like nothing. when my captivate just broke I got them to give me my upgrade now instead of july waived upgrade fee(which is BS anyway) and $30 off my bill for the next 6 months (180) not to mention when i left them i had my friend/coworker put the best company discount on my account which happens to be coca cola. so I also recieve 28% off my primary line and I believe a smaller percentage off data planes. it saves me $50 plus every month off my bill. Just gotta know how to work the system. I dont know why they are so generous but i tried doing things like this on my fathers vzw account and they will not budge. I love ATT and wont part with them. I have another upgrade on another line come april this year which will be used for galaxy S2. much rather sign a 2 year and pay $200 over $800 for international version when im gonna just root it and put my own rom on there any way.
If anyone is having trouble with att. PM and I will give you some advice.
they did crack down on the company discount thing tho you do have to show proof i am grand fathered in tho.
ill be happy to help
Err, guys? Has anyone else noticed that Wikipedia lists April 1st as SGS II release date for the US?

I dont think that means anything. 1. April is already listed there since 20th february.

I got my GF an Atrix on release day to replace her Nexus 1. She used it for a week and absolutely hated it (lots of problems) so we swapped it for an Inspire. So far she's fine with that.
We'll know more at CTIA but it may be pretty late in the year considering the previous Galaxy S US version was also announced at CTIA only to be released in July for T-Mobile.
I am guessing 1st week of May. usually 4 to 6 weeks behind Europe They will pay 830 so minus VAT 581 USD

Hrmm..should I stick with the I717 or go international

Let me first state my situation.
I am in a contract with unlimited data on Verizon with my galaxy nexus.
Despite not wanting to have a contract with two providers, I wanted the galaxy note so badly, I got the note on AT&T with a so so contract (3 gb data, unlimited texting, 450 minutes).
I live in Seattle so there is no LTE here.
I am worried that a superior phone will come out soon (SG III) or perhaps a quad core note and then I will be stuck in two contracts without many options.
So I can either take back my note and get the AT&T version and go with Straightsim and save a good chunk of money ($100/month on AT&T vs $45/month on Straighttalk). In Seattle, straight talk uses AT&T's network so I think my service will be about the same except I will have unlimited data/minutes/texting.
Or, I can take back my Note and get the international version and put it on Straighttalk.
Or, I can stay put.
If I buy a note off contract, I will have the option to get the Samsung Galaxy S III or Note II when it comes out (on Verizon or AT&T)...
Kind of think that getting into a contract for a phone without LTE speeds seems a bit absurd.
Also, the international version has more developers (for now) and a better cpu.
What do you guys think? If I wasn't in another contract on Verizon, I'd just stay put and hope that LTE comes to Seattle this summer.
I read that the Note will come out on VZW if you can wait.

I thought about that. One thing I forgot to mention is that for some reason at the office, my galaxy nexus (and before that, Galaxy S) get's terrible reception unless I am near a window.
AT&T customers at work get reception even in conference rooms in the middle of the building, so I was hoping that my AT&T note would as well (which it does).
I just don't like being cut off for 8 hours a day from calls and texts.
I guess since life isn't all flowers and unicorns, my verizon has great data speed (LTE) but my AT&T can actually make calls....lol
Guess it would be too much to have it all in one phone
I had the same problem with Verizon. Loved the LTE speed when I had reception but for 10 hours a day at work I was lucky to keep 1 bar of 3G. I got fed up and went back to AT&T. I do have LTE here in Phoenix so switching was easier. Though I did lose unlimited data on VZW, I'm much happier with AT&T, this Note, and their LTE is way faster right now.

I would take it back and try to get one on Craigslist. I got mine by trading my SII and throwing in some cash also. I know Straight Talk is cheaper but have you thought about Red Pocket? They give you unlimited talk and text and 2GB of data for $59.99 but the good thing about there plan is that your unused data rolls over to the next month. I have over 5GB now. I have read where Straight Talk is very fussy when you use a lot of data. Just a suggestion.

The one thing I have been worried about is warranty. I see Amazon sells one with a warranty but the others don't have them...

The Note 2 won't come out anytime soon. The Note just came out in November. The international version has no carrier bloat and has a better processor. It's also already starting to get ICS.
AT&T has LTE and a guaranteed warranty.

I'm with Mr DSL on this. Got my white att note preordered on the 14th. I'm disappointed by its performance.and the att bloatware etc. Bought the white international last week. To me I noticed the performance right away. Both stock but the international seems way faster no lag. Killer battle life etc
I don't have lte where I live so I'm keeping the international version. And selling my att note for 500 quick sale on craigslist and only out 200 bucks etc.paid 699.99 on amazon for the international version. Oh and love the physical home button and no att branding or bloatware.
But its all bout what u want. Also never wait for something down the road enjoy and get what u like..

Also if you want ics anytime soon the inter.. is a better bet. Who knows when at&t will release an update.

Easy enough to wait past MWC now but GSIII unofficial news may also happen hopefully within the next few weeks..
OP should have 30 days to return it to AT&T if he wants to exercise that option..personally at this point I'm leaning toward intl GT-N7000 if I decide to get a Note. Eventhough I'm close to an LTE market, ~80% of the time have fast Wi-Fi access & when I don't only ~5% of that time would be in LTE currently.
When I played with the AT&T I was disappointed not to be able to find the Video Maker & screen mode of the GT-N7000 possibly a result of the differing chipset..

Hello,
On the Galaxy Note we are covering 1 year warranty from Expansys. So if Samsung locally can not help you then you can contact us directly and we'll be able to get the handset repaired for you.
I hope this answers your question.

Strange how Expansys just dropped off of Amazon. I was ready to pull the trigger.
I would have had the international and the AT&T side by side to compare.
1 year warranty to me seems good enough as in a year later, I'll be on the next best thing and if the phone were faulty, I'm sure it would have broken within the first year.
I want to try red pocket because I've read around that if you use too much data on straight talk, they will close your account.
With red pocket it is 2gb a month but it rolls over. I probably use that much but I also have my Nexus with LTE, so I doubt i'm going to be using a lot of data off wifi on the Note.
Now the place selling the cheatest note on Amazon is this place:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aag/detail...ER&isCBA=&seller=A1A0163V84UKHW#aag_legalInfo
for $675. Expansys was at $650. Not sure why they are no longer on Amazon because their website seems to infer that they are still in stock.
Their website only says dual band though and Amazon says quad band.
I'd prefer to buy from Amazon just because I'm a big customer of theirs and I have recourse with Amazon if I have problems with Expansys.
Dailysteals.com has the n7000 for $599 at the moment if anyone is interested. I'm sticking with this i717, but I'm not sure why.

Yeah. I have LTE already on Verizon and there is no LTE here, so it's a no brainer for me.
Amazon keeps on doing strange stuff with different sellers. I had finally got comfortable with buying from Expansys and now they've been replaced with a ton of other sellers at higher prices.
I guess expansys ran out.

Should I buy the Note for at&t

So here is the deal, I am stuck between the international version, or the at&t version. The only thing is data for T-Mobile data development. Which one has more promise in terms of breakthroughs for data. I know we already have a radio for the note that lets us connect to 1700mhz and get 5mb down.
I am thinking of selling my Sensation and getting this.
I think someone hacked Tito's account. I can't believe a "retired moderator" and someone with more than 2000 posts has started this thread.
I just vote do it man.

I'm being serious lol. Just want to have a real discussion about this, not a spec war, or something like that.
Got the AT&T version 2 weeks ago. With the exception of the black pixelation issue, everything's been good. Coming from Sprint, I thought I would hate AT&T but the data speeds have been good, and sometimes insane(beyond 50 mbps). I haven't noticed much lag or anything either. You always have 30 days to return if you think you may not like it.
If T-Mobile data is important then the at&t version is the way to go..
There is still only edge speed on T-Mobile with the inter..

dude I've said it before and I'm saying it again. the international note will never see 3g on t mobile it's about hardware, and the hardware for that is not there to support that so it will never happen. the only way for that to happen samsung would have recall all of the international note and put in the proper chips in them lol. And we all know that will never happen. Just to show you guys that will never happen I'm putting on a bounty for 1,000,000 dollars to the dev that makes it happen and i know i will never happen. Because if it was gonna happen it would of happened already it's Been too long since the note came out we need to end this madness now.

Well, data is important, but I do see development on both sides. Which one seems like it would be the right choice in terms of how it looks and the type of support there is to be expected with it? I know that the international version already has AOKP and ICS things because of the fact that it has the Galaxy Nexus internals...
How is the battery life? My sensation gets terrible battery life like max around 8 hours.
Is the modified Adreno 220 up to par, it being over clocked and such?

Hmm, my mom has an upgrade available to her so I could get a note and find her a good at&t phone from my work. The issue would be the monthly rate plan and contract she would be stuck with. Since the price wont change only the data plan, she has unlimited, and it would be 3gb. Amazon has the device for 250, but I don't want her to get stuck in another contract with that expensive of a monthly cost. She was planning on switching to T-Mobile but hasn't because of ETF.
What would be the best option? Get an international, or at&t version? I know the international one is basically having a new modem being written for it so it can potentially be compatible with T-Mobile, and that is wonderful. From someone elses standpoint though which option would be best?
I think the samsung note is one of the best devices for now, also I'd prefer Android instead the Iphone OS (last one sucks).

I have the N7000 version & it's awesome. The only thing that it's missing is LTE. Since your girl is on AT&T & has unlimited data, I would recommend she get the int model or you could get the AT&T & trade for the N7000 model.
N7000 has awesome support for ICS right now, AOSP/AOKP & imilka's ICS are pretty awesome & stable.
Get the LTE. So much faster

AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note Price Cut Ahead Of S3 Release

http://www.motoringcrunch.com/news/mobile-tech/10737-att-samsung-galaxy-note-price-3s
Just in case anyone was looking to purchase another Note. Had to figure they would drop the price. And on a side note they mention that the Note will be getting ICS in June.
Might get my wife one now , here contract is up in July.
Wait so they are saying official ICS in June now?

ICS in June? I'll believe it when I see it. I like my Note but it pisses me off when I purchase a cutting edge phone in February, and here we are in June and still no update, while others are receiving their updates.
I give Apple credit there for being better at updates. Much better. No wonder the values of Android devices do not hold up. 3 months old, already outdated, and available for a lot less than what I paid for it.
Ok..I have vented. Again, I like the Note I have, but the thought of going back to Apple is starting to appeal to me again. I pulled out my old iPhone 4 and fired it up, and started the Etrade App I use every day, and on the iPhone it had a voice command feature which is not on the android app. Whats with that anyway? I thought my Note was ahead of my old IP4, and it appears the app developers still cater to Apple.

Yes if Google made one big mistake, it was not learning from Apple's success. Apple owns its phones and demands control over patches and updates. We are being stymied by ATT not by Samsung. Because of the ATT experience on the Android devices we end up waiting forever for an update. My next phone will be a Google phone rather than a branded phone from ATT, so that I can get around this silly delay. Although it will have to compare well with the Note before they can pry this phone away from me.
I wish the phones in the US were more like the European phone as far as distribution goes, the phones there don't tend to have cell provider branding from what I understand and tend to work across more networks. I wouldn't mind paying more phone a phone every couple of years if our service plans were cheaper and the phones were updated more frequently with new software.

Verizon Wireless galaxy S IV THOUGHTS.

Samsung isn't planning on releasing this phone on the big red until MAY30 WHICH is very close to June and isn't there going to be a couple phone in June around that same type with the new snapdragon 800 like that new moto phone coming out so I'm.curious wouldn't the new phone in June play the new gs4 obsolete ? Samsung gs4 release so late will make it its own demise ! why is Verizon releasing this phone so late i mean if there's a phone within the same month of the gs4 with twice the power then I won't consider the gs4 when I can wait just 2 weeks and buy somethin much more superior in hardware and stock android Samsung is about to lose a tons of money on Verizon if they wait all th way to may30 around the same month as sum very new phones with double the power .... Why didnt the gs4 release earlier ?? in may when moto announces there phone which will prob kill the gs4 in every way specs and software within 3week after the gs4 comes to store everyone will cancel there preorders and just wait and extra 3week to get the most powerful phone with a better screen n better snapdragon n prob more sensors and better battery and full stock android!

That doesn't make a lot of sense. People in the U.S. typically get new phones when they become eligible so there's a steady stream of people year round looking to buy new phones no matter when they are released. People buy what pleases them. The DNA tanked on VZW and there were no other phones released before it or after it that caused its failure. And it was powerful and had the world's first 1080P display. People are still buying SGS3's in large quantities and probably will after the SGS4's out because the price will be reduced. The SGS4 will be on the market as a "flagship" for 9-12 months and Samsung's planning on selling 10MM a month. HTC, Motorola, LG, and Sony all introduced phones that competed with the SGS3 and it certainly didn't affect Samsung's sales last year. So there's no reason to expect it to this year either. And the average consumer doesn't know (or care) what a Snapdragon, Exynos, or Octa is.
Plenty of hot new phones came out after the Galaxy S3's July release in the U.S. like the Razr Maxx HD, Nexus 4, etc. yet the GS3 outsold all of them by a huge margin. The average consumer doesn't buy phones based mainly on hardware specs.
Verizon is launching it on may 23rd, not may 30th. I went to Verizon yesterday and there was a Samsung rep there showing the employees the s4 and they said the official launch date is the 23rd. I know that's still three weeks later than the rest, but at least its a week earlier than may 30th. I gotta question, is verizons s4 going to be harder to unlock and root than the rest of them? I heard Verizon likes to lock them down, and I've never owned a smartphone I've been holding out for this one. I own a nexus 7 which is obviously the easiest to unlock and root. But i know the s4 is a huge release so I'm kinda assuming that there will be a solid method to root for Verizon. Am i right?
According to official PR from Samsung today, it will be on all major US carriers by the end of April. I'm guessing April 30th.
The Galaxy S 4 is optimized for powerful performance on the nation’s fastest networks and will be available on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless as well as U.S. Cellular, Cricket and C Spire starting during April. Additionally, consumers can find the Galaxy S 4 at Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile, Costco, Radio Shack, Sam’s Club, Staples, Target and Wal-Mart. Exact pricing and retail availability will be announced by each of the carriers and retailers in the coming weeks.

Available to carriers and carriers making the phone available to consumers are two different things.
And for the OP... i am not sure how new phones will make the s4 obsolete? a cpu does not a phone make....

But it says available on not to... I'm staying optimistic!
It also says "starting in april" that could mean that just one or a few carriers will roll it out in April.

I.D.K. why the O.P. is saying that the galaxy s4 would be obsolete soon i mean come on the motorla x phone right now is just a nice looking rumor plus a processor in a phone doesn't make all that difference because maybe you saw last year's htc one X+ it smoked the galaxy but the battery was really bad plus i hardly ever think android needs more power right now they need to be more battery friendly and better screen really what do you want more than 441ppi ?? anyway looking at all those gs4 specs and concediring what happened with last year's gs3 i can tell you that the galaxy won't go down till the gs5 is out so don't worry if verizon goes a few weeks later than everyone else it will still sell like hot cakes.
I still have unlimited internet after 4/21 can I buy new galaxy s4 cell using the new 12 month payment plan that's effective on 4/21 without upgrading to the 200sub? Does anyone know I think everyone who still has unlimited internet should ask Verizon this.. I wanna get the new s4 but keep my unlimited internet so will this 12month thing work for me?

I am going to tell you right now that Verizon's phones are the worst due to the spyware they bloat them up with. I hope they do as little to it as possible and there's no way verizon is going to pay for a S800 S4. They are cheap when it comes to there phones and replacing one that has gone bad is near impossible unless you take them to the FCC. If they ever touch my unlimited, I am gone with out a hint of doubt.

I actually find that replacing phones is very easy on verizon compared to sprint. I had sprint in the past and their customer service was atrocious. The Fascinate (Verizon Galaxy S) apparently had lots of problems, and they kept getting replaced until the Droid Charge came out, when Verizon just started giving out Charges to replace Fascinates.
The Charge had some problems too, and if you got enough bad ones from them, they even started handing out the Bionic, Rezound, and Razr too (phones that came out later with much higher specs). I even bricked my Charge and they just gave me a new one.

They had to post something. The basically are going to be releasing with the third world, lol. Its ALWAYS something with them. They did their best to wreck the galaxy nexus, they were in on the Carrier IQ scandal, they have to plaster their dated logo on everything, and they sell pretty much the most bloated phones in existence. Yes, they have a good network, but frankly, I live in DFW...all the carriers have good networks here. It's flat, populated and affluent.
I have an upgrade, but their delay conveniently puts me within a month of my contract ending. My wife gets a ~25% discount through work, but I can get 15% on T-Mobile, and with the massive price difference, it actually makes T-mobile a better deal. I may even pickup up a used N4, get the $30 walmart plan thing, and wait for the Note III.
I guess as someone that pays attention and is tired of getting screwed and treated like an idiot sheep, I am just not their target market.

I don't know exactly which options you're choosing, but if you do the math I suspect you'll find that T-Mobile isn't the better deal. I've been doing research recently for an upgrade myself, and I found that corporate discounts actually significantly narrow the gap between T-Mobile and Verizon. Reason is because with T-Mobile ditching subsidies but lowering the monthly bill, the value of a discount on that smaller monthly bill is proportionately less. If you factor in the fact that a full price GS4 on T-Mobile is $630 vs $200 for Verizon, Verizon might actually come out ahead over the course of 2 years.

If he used like 1GB a month sure it would cost less, but Verizon's network has really gone down the drain in the bigger citys. May as well have sprint 3G at times it get's so bad. Now if you live in bum ville sure Verzion win's. But he live's in the city so data speeds will be better on T-moblie.
Also no unlimited data any more with verizon and those like me that still have it get throttled.

If you're considering using an upgrade, that means you don't have unlimited, in which case my question is... why bother with VZ?

It's not throttled. When the network isn't congested (as you say, places like NYC during the day are crap) I still get great speeds.
