Hi. I bought a Desire-X in Germany last week because I just happened to be there.
However, when trying to set it up, I was shocked to see there are only locales for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Even though the English language support is there, it's not for "English (United Kingdom)" which means that I can't get the right locale and right keyboard.
I can download some app such as "More locales 2" or similar and get the locale, but the keyboard is QWERTZ rather than QWERTY, so I also need a keyboard. I'd like to use the "standard" keyboard as it uses a lot less screen space than some of the others.
Can anyone suggest anything? If you know of a good app that gives me the locales and a decent, compact keyboard, please let me know.
Or...am I able to flash a UK ROM to the device? Or...maybe even a custom ROM that's already Jelly Bean??
Thanks.

Check your phone CID ("fastboot getvar cid" (usb), or download and install cidGetter (Play))
if HTC__102 or similar make a goldcard and reflash your phone with factory RUU (HTC_001)
regards
Hmmm. Not sure I quite know what to look for in the mass of stuff (that can't be copy/pasted!) from cidGetter! Or even what making a goldcard is about, but I can probably Google that much somewhere.
Should there be a CID line somewhere in the cidGetter dump?

What are the odds anyone will actually come out with a Swedish language Rom?
My guess is about 2.34 %
Our languages are quite small, but you will probably be the first to get it if we get a Scandinavian version.
I think that most M1000 users are so advanced, that they would prefere English anyway. I do, because some translations are confusing - and the defacto standard on the IT market is English.
It would be quite different for a Nokia 3100 phone aimed at the budget end of the consumer market.
Anyway, I am ready to install the Orange ROM labled DK released today, so I may get a Danish version soon..
Regards
Michael
Let me know how the Danish version works; I can pretty much read most of the Danish I encounter or at least figure it out, so I'd be willing to change to that... keeping the phone in another language keeps my friends when I'm the States from playing with it and ruining stuff.
Tack så mycket!
Scott
if it's easier access to ae oe and aa you want
then some guy from Norway make a custom keyboard add-on
which makes your keyboard (software keyboard ) into Scandinavian
it let you choose between Danish, Norwegian and Swedish
but of cause that don?t fix the issues that the text recognition cant recognise them and dictionary don?t have Scandinavian words
personaly i really hate translations and pretty much stay with english os's and programs
The 'Danish' ROM is in English as the original Orange M1000 ROM.
Only Danish content appear to be the default GPRS setting, pointing to a danish gateway.
Scandinavian keyboard is easy, this free utility will give you what you need:

I would like to write a message in Czech.
If I create a new email and then on the Edit menu choose Language then Central European I still get the Western European keyboard. I would expect to get a Central European keyboard. Even if I choose Cyrillic I get the Western European keyboard.
I can go to Start/Settings/System/Regional Settings and choose Czech and Pocket Outlook will display the month names in Czech but I still don't get a Central European keyboard.
Anyone know a solution?
2 things:
1. On a PC with a basic installation I only get the support for the locale selected. If I then want to write in Russian or Chinese I have to insert the installation disk to get other language support. It seems reasonable that Microsoft will not include every language in the PPC ROM where space is at a premium even though there is support in the applications for more than one language. There must be a CAB file somewhere that provides different keyboard layouts/character maps.
2. In the Czech Republic T-Mobile(your cash away) sell the XDAII as an MDAII and they have a different keyboard for inputting Czech characters. It seems to me that the ROM for the MDA includes the Central European language pack that isn't included in the XDA.
So 2 more questions
1. Is there a place to download a CAB containing the Central European keyboard etc?
2. If not 1 above. Does anyone have access to the individual CABs in the MDA ROM that contains the Central European keyboard? And can they send it to me
i think that language changes needs a new rom
I could get the T-Mobile Czech ROM from somewhere(?) and install it on the ppc but i don't want that. I only want to use a different keyboard.
I know there are products that can do this and I don't mind buying software but I do mind paying $25 for a piece of software that only does what the operating system should do.
Would anyone buy other versions of Windows if they only allowed input in the local language? If you bought a pc in Russia how could you post to this list?
What exactly is the change language option in the ms ppc products supposed to do if it doesn't change the input character set?
People!
What are you talking about?! No ROM change is needed - all you need is czech "input mehod" - keyboard! It is included on the CD the machine was packed with, called czech Language Extender and actually only adds the keyboard - the rest is preinstalled. If you are interested, I can try to find the CD on my shelf... :?
Concerning the ROM reinstall, it won't help - czech ROM is marked ENG! The only difference is the CD.
PS: I never tried to send SMS in Czech, bu it definitely works on the internet.
i must have pressed a wrong button somewhere cos my post didn't turn up.
that is great news. but i don't have anything like that on my CD. could you post it? is it a cab? is it easy to install? a beer or 2 if you can
I found the CD and will try to do something with it. It is a 5.5Mb executable, Czech or English.
We'll see...
looks promising but it wants a serial number.
any chance of posting one? 8)
Very sorry, my network went down yesterday.
I'll have a look at the serial when I come home. I installed it somehow so I must have it!
Here you go:
MORAA000-0000007425-56698-0703 :!:
now it should work!
Thanks Bob but that is a bit more than i needed
I now have a variagated ppc. Half o2 and half T-Mobile. Although i do have a Czech keyboard
Even installing the minimum of the Leng it adds a lot of T-Mobile stuff and I can't seem to get back the o2 stuff.
I don't know why but it also removes all the connections. Even using the o2 Active connection setup causes the thing to hang after a reset.
It is a pity. But thanks again for your help.
Hi folks,
someone considered an 'authority' on the SE forum told me here to go on and flash the Global Generic firmware on my phone, to get rid of branding. He confirmed that I should not lose my AZERTY hardware keyboard.
This goes contrary to how I believe hardware keyboards work. (which is, that they're all the same except that they look differently on the outside, and that the translation from button 1 to A or Q is done by a keyboard driver; and that the Global Generic will not know that my keyboard is supposed to be AZERTY and therefore I'll lose hardware keyboard functionality)
Am I right or am I wrong?

I've been doing a little digging on my own, and yes...
Your keyboard will be messed up, but there are answers to it.
And as i'm from the same country as you are
I can confirm it's a pain in the ass to get it all working..

Thanks Raph4,
I found another post of you where you linked to quite a number of ftf files. Do you have a source of these? I'm interested in knowing more about the region codes (trying to compile a list for people who wish to edit their build.prop to force OTA or SEUS updates instead of using 3rd party tools)
In any case, I'll add the region codes you posted there to my thread here.
Is there anyways to add korean to the HTC keyboard?
I looked in languages on the keyboard and korean wasn't one of the options.
The look and feel of the keyboard is great but if there isnt korean I cant use it.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Google korean keyboard
Hi, I guess you're Korean because you're looking for Korean keyboard right? I'm also Korean but I thought I better leave my answer in English.
Anyways, I guess Google Korean Keyboard is the only option we got here. I purchased S4 because of that language issue but I can't resist htc zoe's features so I'm going to swap my S4 with htc one.

I was trying to find that too. So I got Kii keyboard and downloaded the Korean keyboard. The Kii Keys are surprisingly easy to use.
Oddly enough, there is a system language option for Korean, but no matching Korean keyboard option.

Really? I couldn't see any Korean option from System Language.
Are you using htc One? then what country are you at?
Im in the USA.
When you first start or after a factory reset you can choose Korea for the language but the keyboard is non existance.
what are they thinking...
the HTC keyboard is really nice though
think ill send them a lil email.
Ok I got a response from them and this is what they say:
Dear danny chun,
Thank you for contacting HTC Technical Support, Danny.
In this specific case as your HTC One does not have this option (Due to different version of keyboard), I would suggest you to install a third-party application to use it for Korean language.
There are many apps (some of them are for free) that you can check at:
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=korean+keyboard&c=apps
As these are third-party applications, HTC does not support or warranty any of them, and its implementation is at your discretion. I will be looking forward to your response if further assistance is required.
As always, we are here to answer any technical questions or concerns you may have between 8am to 1am, 7 days a week for your convenience, or by phone at 1-866-449-8358.
Thank you for contacting HTC and have a great day.

So there is no way it seem... T.T
it's so frustrating.. even if you download third party apps for this phone, you can't even select it as a choice for keyboard.
Even if you click the (on) position for the third party keyboard there is no way to actually use the keyboard.
This brings you back to selecting "keyboard options" in HTC Sense Input which does absolutely nothing...
Anyone find a fix or way around this??

Have you tried Google's Korean IME? https://play.google.com/store/apps/...29nbGUuYW5kcm9pZC5pbnB1dG1ldGhvZC5rb3JlYW4iXQ..
(edit: I see a link was provided to the play store previously, with Google's IME being the first option on that page)
I will make a Korean HTC Sense based Keyboard unless someone from South Korea has the korean HTC One M9 and would care to share the APK

If it's not under the normal language settings, I'd contact your phone operator/the place where you bought it. Given that it's Spanish you shouldn't be the only one with this problem.
EDIT: actually, I just googled a bit and apparently the really ship it without Spanish? If that really is the case and you absolutely need the phone in Spanish you might need to root it and use another rom (phone-software). Check the S3 forums on xda, ask around there what other people did to solve the issue.
Thanks
Thanks. Yeah. It sucks that most Samsung phones in Canada only have 3/4 language choices.
Inglish, French and Korean. Question......if i change the room, can i use stock rooms from other carriers that are similar models as my phone?
