I have an international S2 and last week I installed TomTom Western Europe 1.0. The installation went perfectly. I have been testing it for the last week and so far the navigation is the same as my g/f's TomTom XXL. I also purchased speeds cams and HD Traffic. The HD traffic also works great. The speed cams are not always there when I pass them on the highway.
I can recommend it. It also consumes way less power than Sygic, Navigon, etc. When using those, my S2 runs out of power even when using the car charger. With TomTom on my android, it even charges! So removed all the other navigation apps.

My cell phone is dopod 830,also called Prophet,it used for more than three years. Now is Chinese Spring Festival, and I can be given sums of money from the adult.I wanna to buy htc Diamond 2 before, but since I have tried to play htc G2,I had been attracted, althought I haven't used Android System before.
To be honest,WM System is more attraction to me.Lately I found Toshiba TG01 is become cheaper than before, and the price in oversea buy is better than in China. So I wanna to buy it oversea, but I haven't decide where to buy is the best choice.I have friends in Toronto,San Francisco and Australia, and some of them will come back China lately.I want to know where to buy is more suitable? It's better to buy an unlocked phone. And can you show me the price you know?
Thx of all.
In UK you can pick 1 up for £150 and £10 you can unlock it on the web. Don`t know what the other countries are charging tho. May be Ebay you can get it cheaper. Good luck.
eaby cannot use in China...althought i have an international credit card, but is in US pay not UK...
can i unlock the machine myself?
£150 is very good price!I wanna to buy in Hong Kong, but need nearly £250, a bit expensive...

Still not unlocking method. Think before buying. If it's me I go buy a Iphone 3G. I did the mistake buy one. For Iphon you have a lot of help and program. TG01 have = 0. It's true have a big skreen and is fast but still hard locked.
Think before buying.
Maybe iPhone 3GS is better.I agree that iPhone is a good machine, but in China,we cannot use wifi everywhere as western countries. What is the worse, that Youtube cannot be connected. If I live in Hong Kong,iPhone is my choise, without thinking.
But you said that TG01 is = 0,I think it's too exaggerate.Although its now popular as htc,but it still a wm phone, isn't it?

Proobably can't do GPRS, and instead of the 3G icon you get HSDPA instead, and a roaming icon
Cheap price seems always far from me...what bad luck!
Well..i got mine in Italy over the net and got it mailed to me in Malaysia where I work just over a month ago for EUROS 280:-...compared to when it was first launched in 2009 and it was going for EURO 560:- or something in that neighbourhood of prices
The additional good news is that from the moment I got it and turned it on until now:
1. It has never hung
2. The audio in-call quality has always been great.
3. It is damn fast and showed little or no lag.
4. Battery is good enough unless you are using wifi and playing around with it 24/7
5. Ringer is a little on the quiet side (reminds me of the Motorola 'Ming' I bought 4 years ago) BUT it is not at all as bad as many have described.
Guess maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones but then again I guess I did something with my TG01..basically I did NOTHING never tried changing flashing ROMS, installing Manila, Jakarta etc or whatever else was never intended to be on it in the first place.
Now might the time in the UK to buy one...
I keep being tempted by this phone, just because of the size of the screen alone. Also, in the Orange shops here in the UK, the unit price has gone down to £129, but I don't know what the obligatory top up would be. If anyone has one here in the UK, what is the multimedia on it like? Are you able to download BBC iPlayer programmes to watch on it when commuting etc.? I'd be grateful for any input

Yes, if you use a program like Iplayer downloader or similar you can download videos from iplayer (and automatically remove DRM) and then play them on the phone, I watch videos almost every day as I commute; the good thing is that the core player that comes with the phone has got hardware acceleration so the videos are played smoothly and it play xvdi/divx files (if you know where to get them from )
Cheers
Hi I think if you have a problems with budget, than TG01 will be sold in Eastern Eur with 40% discount. If the point isn't in money, than wait for a TG02, its a real HD2 and iPhone killer
I can't get to the bottom of this and it's useless to ask sales staff since they haven't heard of NFC. I've done online searches but came up with conflicting information. So...
Does the UK Samsung S2 have NFC or not?
I have a HTC Desire HD, which does not have NFC, so if the S2 does this is a distinct advantage.
DOES...NOT. Only korean and some US ones.

No, nor is there any plan to produce a version containing the NFC functionality in the UK. The S2 still bears many considerable advantages over the HD, but that's another matter entirely.
Maybe try reading up on In2Pay/Paywave if you're that fussed about NFC though...
Just send me your card details. That way you can have 1/2 the NFC experience when a complete stranger rinses your bank account.

I can confirm that my newly purchased Orange Samsung Galaxy S2 does indeed come with NFC - but I've turned it off in the settings
It would seem the NFC circuits are actually included within the battery...

NFC is built into the hardware of the phone. The battery contains the aerial.
You can flash firmware that was meant for the I9100 international. You will just lose NFC capabilities.
as far as I know the Orange UK SG2 with NFC is the GT-9100P. they have released a new rom version 2.3.6 just last week.
They did indeed release their latest update last week, but it's still gingerbread. I downloaded the ICS LPS build from Samfirmware. It doesn't have NFC, but that doesn't bother me. Will revert when orange deliver ICS, either I9100 or I9100P.

Will NFC actually take off?
Possible with Android Beam.
Me I would not use a mobile for any finance at all.

You probably have an i9100p. Check on the label under your battery. Regular i9100 lacks the nfc chip.
I have an HTC Desire HD on Orange UK. In the market I have only ever seen apps & books. I have never seen movies or music listed. I have, until now, assumed that these were probably only available in certain countries because of licensing agreements.
However, upon arriving at work this morning I was discussing the rebranding to Google Play with a colleague, only to find out that they have, and have done for a while, a section in their Market/Play Store for movies. They have an HTC Desire S on T Mobile UK.
Why would I not have movies available via my market? I'm guessing that it wouldn't be handset compatibility, so would it be that Orange are blocking this for some reason? Who else, in the uk, has the movies option, and who doesn't? What is the common ground between each group?
They do not have music as a Market section, so I guess that I was right about this, and it is not available to the UK at all?
Thanks,
SilentBob
Only available in USA right now
I think this will help you. if it does please THANK me.

But my colleague has a stock T-Mobile UK Desire S, and he has access to movies. He says he has for quite some time.
I always tend to use Market on device. However, just had a look at it on web, signed into my account and lo & behold movies are offered as available in the UK with UK prices. However, when I go to the Google Play Movies app it says "This app is incompatible with your DesireHD".
I will have to get my colleague to look at the app under his account and see what it says about compatibility with the Desire S. Not that I can see why the Desire S would be compatible if the DHD isn't? Unless, like I said, it is down to the network?
Edit:
Got my colleague to look at the Google Play Movies app in his desktop browser, and it shows as compatible with his HTC Desire S (T-Mobile UK), but as not compatible with his Orange San Francisco. Does this perhaps confirm that Movies are being blocked by Orange UK?
To any UK Desire HD users - Can you access Movies via the Market? Which network are you on? Network branded device?
To any Orange UK customers - Can you access Movies via the Market? Which device do you use? Network branded device?
I've been trying to understand this too.
I have an unbranded Desire HD from Carphone Warehouse on T-mobile and no Movies option
My wife has a t-mobile branded Desire S also on T-mobile and has Movies option.
Both phones are running 2.3.5 with sense 3.0 and both have market version 3.4.7
Seems to me that the market doesn't think the Desire HD is movies capable. Strange when I can stream a ripped DVD from my phone to my TV over wifi with barely any noticeable loss of quality.
I need a very cheap phone (under £100), has great battery, plays music & can use Viber. I don't care about processing power, etc. Do you guys have any suggestions? Thank you!

AW: (Q) very cheap phone with good battery?
Samsung has great solutions. Check the galaxy Y and the galaxy ace. By now the galaxy S (one) might be under a hundred as well. Can only recommend these
Virgin Mobile
Back in the day I picked up an LG Optimus V for $149 on Virgin Mobile, no contract, cheap data plan, rooted it, and it worked extremely well. And if you plan to use Viber, I guess you would just need your wi-fi connection... not exactly sure if Viber will work on the 2.2.2 Optimus V.
Taking a look at Virgin Mobile's devices, looks like you can grab the Optimus V online for $49USD. Also the Kyocera Event (never heard of it, just seeing it on their site right now) for $79USD running Android 4.0. You should probably check out their devices for yourself. (Sadly, since I'm new here, I can't post links, sorry :/)
So I know that it won't be released on July 30th like the Wi-Fi only model, but I am curious as to how to actually obtain the 4G/3G/whatever service. I know you buy the device from the Google Play Store, but does it come with a SIM card that you just go to T-Mobile or VZW or AT&T website to activate? How does that process actually work?
I've owned many tablets, but they are all Wi-Fi only. This will be my first tablet with Data.
While I'm here, my main use of this is for mostly media(ie Google Play Music, YouTube, Pandora, etc) but also Navigation via Google Maps, is it a good device for Navigation in the car? Do you recommend a certain dock/mount for the car?
I know it's a lot to ask, but I very much appreciate any information you have
When you purchase a tab, it doesn't include a SIM card, you need to purchase one from a dealer (of your favorite carrier).
Any dock for car should be fine (provided that it supports 7'' tabs), of course, there are specially-designed docks for the Nexus 7, but again, any of them should work.
So who would you recommend for that? VZW? AT&T? Or T-Mobile?
I have VZW now but they are expensive.
