I deleted a merged contact and got a message that there was a read-only account and the contact will be just hidden instead of deleted.
Now I wanted to restore the hidden contact. In the specific Help chapter, it reads that you have to completely delete the account and add it again to restore these pseudo-deleted contacts. As I don't know exactly which of the 3 accounts was the one considered read-only and I also don't want to delete and re-add accounts .... is there any other solution? Like deleting some entries in a database (I have root!) or clearing some cache or data?

I used a nandroid backup to update my friends phone, thinking I could just add his gmail account and remove mine. I added his but can not remove mine without a factory reset..
I don't want to do that because that will undo a lot of the reason I updated his phone they way I did.
Is there any other way to remove my account completely from his phone?

If it is a rooted phone, use a root-aware file manager to remove
/data/system/accounts.db
see this post for more details.
Note that this seems to only delete account credentials; you probably want to use
Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications
to also delete the data associated with apps that have your private data stored in them, as mentioned in that (above) post

PS. You can do all of this in an offline fashion using ADB and Amon_RA. Explanation is left as an exercise for the reader.
Lately I had been having a problem with my contacts and messages, that I've seen mentioned on here a few times and I seem to have fixed it on my phone. Btw, I am stock, rooted, TWRP, S-ON. The symptoms I was having were:
20-30 seconds to open text messages
entering names to call/text/email would not auto complete
my "people you may know" screen would come up blank
my "linked contacts" screen would come up blank
I tried clearing cache and data on all the contacts storage apps, and wiping cache and dalvik cache, removing my google account and unsyncing facebook account, then wiping all contacts and resyncing them. None of these helped.
Thinking that possibly there was some kind of corruption in the contact database or app, or that I possibly caused something when I restored texts or contacts with Ti Backup at some point, what I did was create a new Ti Backup of Contacts Storage, and a Nandroid just to be safe, then I used Ti's Extract from Nandroid Backup feature to restore Contacts Storage (app + data) from the very first Nandroid Backup I made after I installed TWRP. I had to relink some contacts but everything seems to be working just fine now. From what I can tell, the app version on Contacts Storage hasn't changed, so I think it's a database or config problem.
Hope this helps someone, or leads someone to find the root cause and fix for those who may not have a good backup to go to. Good luck.
I'll need to try that
Update
I backed up the app in TB, wiped the apps data in TB and then restored the apps data again in TB. It helped with the contacts but the messages were slow to load on a few of the threads.

Can i recover my contacts and Messages from the "MyFiles" folder of the phone ?
I copied "My files" data in my laptop and did a factory reset and even after syncing google account i cant get my contacts back.
So is it possible to recover my contacts from the "MyFiles" data ?
isn't all contacts sync automatically to linked google account or manually this has to be done ?
It seems that I messed up big time. I recently just setup a Z-Push server to sync with my Zimbra 8 installation. Things were going good for the last day or so but my contacts were not auto-syncing, I had to manually sync them. When I went into the account settings it said "Sync Disabled".
I chose not to sync email with Z-Push because I really didn't see the need since I can just use IMAP and don't really care if I get PUSH notifications. If I get an email 30 seconds later it really doesn't bother me.
So... In an effort to clean things up, I thought, "since I use K-9 mail I wouldn't need the default email client", so I deleted it. I backed it up and then clicked uninstall. I did get a warning that said something like "in order to restore you will have to restore from Titanium Backup with the exact same ROM". I obviously misunderstood this warning because I clicked ok. When I went to re-setup the Exchange account the option was no longer there.
I went to go re-install the email client and my backup was gone.
I have a back up of the app from when I first installed Titanium Backup which is on my desktop. I just copied it over to my Downloads folder on my sd card, but I can't find a way to install the apk or the properties file into Titanium Backup from the sd card.
Could someone please help me restore this app? I would like to get exchange setup.
