Hi guys
My samsung galaxy s3 battery is draining freaking fast around 1% for every 3-4 minutes
I tried to reset the battery stats and monitor it using better battery stats and all but there is no wakelocks.
Is there any reason why am i having this trouble?
Is anyone else having the same trouble?
Feel free to share here.
[EDIT]: I m running custom rom jellybean criskelo.
Do you have the Facebook app installed? This has caused issues for several people with it constantly syncing.
As a test either disable fb syncing or uninstall fb and see if that improves you battery.
---------- Post added at 03:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:53 PM ----------
Also do you have GPS or Wifi on constantly or any of the usual battery draining settings. Auto sync will also cause a big battery drain.
GPS won't do anything to the battery unless you're using it. If you have the GPS symbol in the notification bar then its being used otherwise its fine to leave it on.
I have set wi-fi settings in the advanced menu to make wi-fi sleep when the phone is so it's not on 100% of the time when i don't need it. Auto sync i turn off. Brightness is down as low as it can be with auto turned off - adjust it manually if your outside. Make sure you've disabled the S Speak Wake up commands on lock screen.
These increased my battery life quite abit.
Do you take the phone in the bathroom when you shower? That drain sounds very high indeed, possible moisture damage?

Even though GPS isn't used with it switched on it will still use battery so I believe your incorrect there.
I didint install any facebook app and my syncing is switched off all the time....
Any idea why?
Are you in a low signal area? I know it's a pain but to be on the safe side I would perform a factory reset. Also In android settings under battery option what does it show is using your battery?

No, you are incorrect. He is correct. GPS isnt activated unless an app accesses it. The toggle only allows it to be used.

Ok I stand corrected apoligies for that.
Please be aware though if you use the weather widget and its allowed to use GPS, GPS will be used every hour or so to check location (or whatever your refresh period is) so please be aware its not just opening an app. Widgets like weather widget will always be able to use GPS automatically unless Auto Refresh is set to 'None'
I read something about there being a software bug specifically for the s3 a couple of days ago. Just my 2 cents

I turned off Auto Sync and Background Data to try and prolong battery life.
Is there anyway I can set Gmail to sync automatically while having those settings off?
Or is there a diffrent way to preserve battery life
I also turned down brightness and turned GPS off, Auto adjust screen power off.
Thanks
Contrary to common perception and unlike wifi, GPS does NOT use battery when turned on and idle. It only uses battery when an application is actively using it. There are some firewall apps in the market that let you cherry pick which programs can use your data connection. You can set it up so everything but gmail is prevented from using background data.

Yes, in your case changing Wi-Fi policy will greatly improve your battery.
Change it from always connected to "when the screen is on"

HI all,

Thank's for reply...is it normal??
if can..i want to extend the battery life..any suggestion for apps??thank's...
If you wanna extend the battery life you should uninstall all apps that can possibly keep the phone awake. more apps needing CPU = less battery life.
also lower the display lighting if you have high battery use of it.

Yes, it's normal
Turning down the brightness will of course help.
Normal seem to be about 12-40 hours. Some apps are badly behaved, others just take a lot of power. It seems there might be a few OS bugs which come and go depending on exactly how you use the phone - some ROMS/kernels seem to help but it is difficult to be specific. Check the BetterBatteryStats thread for some ideas on debugging.
18 hours is decent, it all depends on how you use the phone.
If for 10 hours your phone's screen was on, then ofc this is amazing.

What is your brightness setting? When you are in the battery usage page, click on Display and tell us how many hours the display was on.
You should also check if your phone is on standby mode properly. When you press the awake button and the phone awoken instantly, then you need to restart the phone until it doesn't (e.g. 1-2 second delay is good). I had this problem before and it ate my battery like crazy.
Sleepy cat: my brightness setting is auto & already running for 1hr 38m...since i charge..last night..and the display percentage is 55%...how to reduce it??..
i already reduce my brightness.....
How to reduce battery use by display: Dont use it.
Simply flash the LeoMar75 2.4 RevolutioN Rom. The best rom!!!

I personally found the SolarFlare rom much better compared to many other roms. Have the longest battery life on that.
Use auto brightness, use running services to close what programs/services you don't need(for example I always close skype, yahoo messager, update software, out of milk etc...depends on what you have installed on it and what you don't need ) use static wallpaper and most important charge your phone OFF.

18 hrs is not normal.....at least for me. stock rom with speedmod kernel.

Put your phone down every now and then...
Seriously, if you're only getting 4 hours, and you're using it moderately, then you need the battery replaced. Take it to Sprint, or call them and they should ship you a new one.
Otherwise, try a few of these things
Turn off 4G (If you have it on all the time, it'll burn your battery QUICK!)
Turn off GPS (Only use it when you need it. That's why the switch is convenient)
Put your screen on Auto-Brightness (Menu > Settings > Display > Brightness. Then check Automatic Brightness)
Make sure you have good signal (I've had this problem with ALL my phones. If you don't have a strong signal where you are, your battery will die quickly from searching all the time. Happens to me everytime I go to the Amway Center for Magic games. I just turn off my mobile network, or turn Airplane Mode on.)
Don't use Live Wallpapers (Even when your phone is sleeping, it's still running and will kill your battery.)
Check for a new kernal (If you're rooted, and you're running a custom ROM, then try using a kernal that will save your battery. Can anyone else recommend a good one?)
And one more thing, games will kill your battery quick (Some I've noticed are Words with Friends and Angry Birds)
really? 4 hours? that seems very low. most of us can go a full day with no problems - medium to moderate use.
try this.. for now..
turn off background data, auto sync
turn off all network location settings
navigate to settings>wireless and networks>mobile networks... uncheck the box that says "always-on mobile data"
turn off blue tooth if it is still on
turn off auto-brightness and set a pre-defined brightness level... set the slider just under 1/4 up - so about 20%
you will see significant battery increase. if you don't, you have another issue, but we'll cross that road later if need be. also, how much do you use your phone?
---------- Post added at 09:25 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:23 AM ----------
i wouldn't jump to any conclusions about the battery being defective just yet. it could be a wakelock issue from an app... but again, we'll look into that later. one step at a time here

I was using unity kernel for GSM
somebody reviwed this kernel and sayed that it takes 1% of battery every 70 minutes of idle
but for me ... in 70 minutes >>>. more than 2 %
I dont know what's WRONG !
This has given me very good results with all phones I've had:
I use Juice Defender and these are the settings I found that work for me. Of course I did some minor tweaking on these but in general this are optimal settings.

I assure you you'll see wonders with your battery.
Props to mistermetaphor over at AF for the settings.
I noticed my wifi dies out when locked and getting bad battery life. I took a three hour nap and if went down 15-20%. I noticed my bfs galaxy notes wifi is constant(using the same wifi) even when his screen is off and he's at 14 hours at 40%.
So i guess my question is what is the norm as far as wifi connectivity goes and why does mine disconnect and his stay on? Defective device?

U can change the settings under wifi settings, press menu and then advanced settings.

Holy crap thank you. I had no idea there was an extra advanced menu. =]
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Not really sure why this is kept under advanced settings menu..how i'd do it..
Wifi toggled off, hide wifi sleep policy.
Toggle wifi on, wifi sleep policy shows up underneath. Press on this, notification bubble(similiar to how you pick your ringtones/fonts) pops up with the two or three options..
I never understood the need to hide things in "Advanced Menus", just only show what's pertinent to what the user has enabled.
My battery was draining really quickly before I did this. Now everything is much more as expected.
recently flashed cm7. Really cool. This place has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to this stuff.
I do have a few questions regarding cm7, however.
I've tried to search, i'm no stranger to forum etiquette. the search feature just isn't turning up any relevant answers to me questions.
Is there a built in airplane widget/app ? i can only access airplane mode via the settings.
Is there a built in task manager? (does it need one) and if not, would u recommend one ? Again, accessing running apps via the settings...
Can you freeze any apps? such as "talk" "voice dialer" "voice search" "torch" "news and weather" ?
This is more of a request than a question. But I would like an optimal setting for the display, as it's killing my battery. It's almost 50% of my battery consumption. I notice it gets brighter and dimmer sort of randomly... ? i know there are settings on this, but don't really know how to set them accordingly.
Thank you in advance for any help!

For app freezing invest in Titanium Backup Pro. To my knowledge that is the go to app for app management.
I have yet to find a task manager as I've been on cm7 for all of 4 days
As far as an airplane toggle goes, you can setup the power control widget to display the airplane mode toggle...which leads me to a random question: the **** does airplane mode do?
The random dimming is cause your brightness is set to automatic-- this can also be changed with the power control widget, which is built in.
Hope this helps!

1) Airplane widget/app: You can set it as one of the options on your notification bar by going to settings, CyanogenMod settings, Interface, Notification power widget, Widget buttons, and selecting Toggle Airplane Mode. That way it is easily accessible with only one swoop of the finger.
2) Built in task manager: no clue. I simply access running apps by pulling up by app drawer and selecting running apps.
3) Freezing apps: I swear there is, because I've done it... my mind is going blank. Will edit when my brain decides to work.
Airplane mode can be toggled by long pressing the top button of the phone. Task manager is not really necessary IMHO. As for freezing apps, titanium backup pro is probably the best for that. I think an app called bloat freezer existence off market but you might have to do some searching for that.

thank you guys. Found airplane mode, but i also found the toggle to turn off data, so that's basically why i wanted airplane mode. I live in an area with crappy service, airplane and data toggle help me extend battery life... basically so my phone isn't constantly working trying to find service when i know i don't have any... as far as Freezing, i have an app that can do it, i was just curious if it was safe to do so? Mostly the apps i had mentioned above. I don't wanna freeze something, then make my phone freak out. and have to nandroid or something.
and i just wanted a faster way to reach the running apps... i'm paranoid about apps running when i don't want them to.. lol

Where did you find the data goggles? When I look it shows 2g and 3g and it is greyed out. I also used turning off data when not in use to save battery.
The data toggle should be right there on the same menu iirc.

I have ~20 apps frozen out of the maybe 50 I have and my phone is totally fine. So long as you aren't freezing something like your launcher, you're golden.
I feel the same way about running apps. Try advanced app killer. Its found in the Market, its totally free and easy to use. You can drag down the notification bar open the app and see exactly what is running and then kill anything you don't want running. There's also a one touch killer widget.

Also for brightness control on the fly go to settings, cm settings, interface, status bar tweaks and check off status bar brightness control. Takes some getting used to but you can change your brightness by sliding your finger left and right along your status bar.

Hmmm I think that is battery used while the screen locked and not in use. I've no idea how you'd regulate that other than turning the phone off altogether. Is phone idle draining more battery than your display? If so, that might be a problem.
Sent from my MB870 using xda premium
No, phone idle has never used more battery than display. So I guess that's good. Lol. I've noticed lately tho, that if I turn data on, I can literally watch my battery percentage drop. I've calibrated. And completely drained and then charged (uninterrupted) the battery.
I like cm7 though. Has lots of really cool features, but my main purpose for getting it was better battery life. ( which wasn't bad on stock) again, any and all input is welcome!
Juice defender pro. Watch it triple ur battery life.
Sent from my MB870 using XDA App
How would that help if he has problems with data on? Not with it off. Also, juice defender does nothing more than turn off data connections when your screen is off or when you schedule it to. Its much more efficient to do it yourself.
It could be a problem with the driver. I have this issue too on my G2X.
