No 3G/edg/G after flashing CUSTOM roms - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can't figure why after flashing custom (non-stock branded/unbranded) roms I lose my mobile internet connection in my phone. I tried different modems to no avail. Is it safe to flash a modem, CSC code and baseband of a ICS4.0.3 stock rom to a custom JB rom (resurrection remix)?

Did you set up APN settings? If you didn't know the settings, call your operator customer service, they'll tell you everything you need to know.
Sometimes new roms erase apn settings or dont set it up.

yep, they are set up. I even tried removing and readding them.

Maybe your efs got corrupted. If you have a backup, try restoring it.

Well, I used kTool to back them up. I just did a "check EFS backup" and it reports that 93% of it is different now. Should I restore this backup?
Weird thing is I tried CM9 before and had the same problem, so whent back to 4.0.3 and everything was fine. That's when I did the EFS backup
note: the backup was done on stock unbranded 4.0.3 from Samsung Argentina (my country)
offtopic question: if my EFS gets screwed up, would restoring to stock rom fix them?

If you say efs is fine on stock rom, then yes, it would be fine. But you could just try restoring efs so you don't have to go back to stock. Stock would suck, wouldn't it?

Stock sucks man but what about the other thing I asked?

Restore stock rom to have working efs or restore the efs backup you have from before.

The problem seems to be with operators using a proxy for internet. I tried my girlfriend's Sim from another operator that doesn't use a proxy and internet was fine :/

By the way, I restored to my stock cwm backup and it still reports that 93% differs

Wiered efs corruption.

Ok sk last night I went to best and forgot to plug my phone in. In the morning I pluged the phone in and turned it up.
Once booted up I wasn't able to connect to a cellular tower. I looked and baseband said unknown, I than checked the imei which was also unknown.
At this point I knew my efs folder was corrupt. No problem I had it backed up, so I restored it. After a reboot everything worked.
But if I do a reboot after that I once again get the efs corruption.
Any help would be great.

[Q] Phone totally screwed?

Hey all.
I was on MIUI 1.9.2 and flashed VillainRom (wiped everything as usual) and after the reboot, I couldn't get any signal. Went to the mobile network screen and I get an error saying I don't have a sim card in my phone.
My baseband and IMEI all read unknown.
Tried restoring a nandroid with no luck.
Are there any fixes or do I need to send it off to be fixed?

Another problem with Custom Rom!
Anyway, do a Factory Reset, if it doesn't work then flash Stock ROM.

This might be a long shot but try toggling airplane mode on, reboot the phone and once fully booted toggle airplane mode off.
This issue has nothing to do with the Rom you flashed, (not VillainRom anyway) it seems in all your flashing you may have messed up your EFS partition, some people got it back when they flashed a stock ROM, if you don't, you may need to get in contact with Odia, he can assist you with getting your IMEI back

[Q] Baseband Unknown

Okay here is the problemo
i was running D4v10 with siyah Kernel
I had the dreaded unknown baseband, Unknown Imei last night after my phone randomly rebooted. Thought Okay, ill restore it with helcats EFS tool. didnt fix it.
So next i tried to restore the EFS backup with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308546. That didnt work either.
The phone has been factory reset
So i flashed KI4 generic from Intractech's stock thread and used CF root to go with it and it worked my Baseband and IMEI are restored, However now whenever i flash any new firmware VIA Recovery (GB roms, CM9 and AOKP etc) my Baseband and IMEI become unknown. so basically my phone still works if i use a stock firmware with CF root, but i cannot flash any new Roms via Recovery. Not even LP7 Generic works...
Has anyone come across any similar problems to this?
Also Flashing the Ki4 stock firmware, Nandroid back it and then updating to CM9 doesnt work, however when i restore the backup it works again :S
tearing out hair
i flash my sgs1 an sgs2 uncountable times but i din face pblm, but yes once my efs got corrupted in sgs1 but i had bckup......anyways wat u do first factory wipe, clear cache, cache prtition then do a clean install of stock rom tht ur kies shows not any otha stock,,,then use the correct cf root for rooting an for cwm...check if all is good then install hellcat and make a new image of efs(only if phone is all good)then will c later if ya got prblm

yeah the EFS backup i have is fine. /EFS is also fine. The only way i can get it to work is if i use the KI4 stock firmware. Kernel choice doesnt even matter.

yeah but the efs back up u must have taken wen the phone was good right,an ki4 its gb rom...so u can try flashing as i told an yes kernels do matter m8,cf root the right one later u can enter neak or redpill i don sujjest siyah new versions..an flash the desired rom
Nothing but stock ki4 results in unknown baseband. That is the problem. No matter what I flash or how I flash it, results are the same.
I only managed to get it to work once with efs pro on a different firmware (lp7). The phone didn't reboot and and after a couple of minutes it was fine until reboot.

The only firmware in which it works is ki4 (haven't tried more gb firmwares yet though. Will tonight). Any ics or non stock gb firmwares haven't worked.

There's a known 'Unknown baseband' bug when you charge the phone and flash new roms. Take out the battery for 180 seconds. Put it back in. Go into recovery wipe cache, format cache, wipe dalvik cache. Reboot. See if it works.
Will try when I get home and I'll post the results.

If not, flash another modem (doesn't matter which one) and reboot (unconnected)

No 4G data connection

Hi. I just Odin'ed back to stock firmware after experiencing no 4G data, only Edge, after flashing the Tmobile recovery through Rom Manager while on CM9 nightly #2. I had wiped and reflashed CM9, with no luck. I thought Odin'ing would fix the problem but it did not. I also tried removing the SIM card for a couple of minutes. Anyone have any suggestions what i could try? Thanks
Update: So far flashing CWM recovery using Rom Manager has set the IMEI to 0, on mine and MacTheRipperr's phone.
Anyone else with similar issues after flashing recovery through Rom Mananger?

Are you sure it wasn't a Tmobile problem? Maybe you should try other kernels and/or roms... I'm using AOKP on my Galaxy S since february and on my Galaxy SIII since June 19th, I haven't experienced any problems with mobile data, the link is below.
I hope it works.

Check your imei under the phone status. Do you have a 0? If so the same thing happened to me.
Do you have a back up of your /efs from the root?

Thank you for your response. I'm 99% sure it's not a Tmobile problem. I didn't have any issues with mobile data at all. This happend soon after i rebooted after flashing the tmobile Rom Manager custom recovery. First thing it did was give no signal connection at all. Then i reflashed the CM9 rom, which then was only able to get Edge network. Even after Odin'ing do i still only get Edge. I haven't tried a custom kernel yet. With certain devices, I've known of issues with modem's are sometimes fixed by flashing a standalone modem rather than going through the whole Odin process. But that isn't an option that is available for the T999 varient.

Yes it reads 0 and no i do not have an /efs backup. The root process I used was the Sprint root zip file flashing CWM and root using Odin. I wasn't aware of a backup that was made. After Odin'ing back to stock, i did the same root method and have flashed Redrum Lean Stock Mod which im currently on. Where would i find the /efs if this method did make a backup of it?
Question for curiosity s sake did you flask the cwm touch recovery
You should backup your EFS folder before flashing any rom, if you'd lost your IMEI you will have problems with mobile data and/or phone service.
I've found two topics about it here, the first one has a link to recover Tmobile and the second is more general. I hope it works!

You guys are freaking me out about losing IMEI. Thankfully mine is fine after rooted and flashing several ROMs.
How do I backup my EFS folder?
/sigh re-read all the imei threads, there's like 10 of them. Backing up the efs folder will not help you at all. The nv data.bin file is not there anymore and nobody has found it yet. Your only option is odin back to stock, take your phone back to where you bought it, and say this POS broke and i can't get lte even though i paid for it. If you're still under warranty hopefully they will replace it.

Help me fix my data connection

So here is the problem, i flashed the jeallybean leak rom. Then decided to go back to 10.1 so i fully wiped and flashed 10.1 but since i have done so, i have no data connection on my phone. I have the correct APN but it doesn't try to connect.
Did the leaked jeallybean rom mess up the phone? I notice now the serial number is listed as "unknown" could this prevent the phone from connecting ?
I tested my sim in another phone and it was fine, so just no data on my phone regardless of what sim/apn i use. So something is wrong
I had some data problems after trying the jb leak. I just decided to go for a clean install, flashed a stock 4.0.3 rom, made all wipes and reflashed a custom rom.

If I flash CM9, and then restore my current CM 10.1 back over it, think it would work? I don't want to be stuck on CM9 but the jeallybean leak really botched my phone somehow

If you already have a backup of previous 10.1 just restore it now, no need to flash CM9.
Also try flashing new modem.
Please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the jb leak has some kind of different layout with regards to using the preload folder and doesn't like you changing modems/rils etc. I'd had enough trying to sort it out so by flashing a stock rom I knew the preload/modem etc would be sorted (at the same time I backed up by the important data from my internal and external sds and formatted them to clear out some of the crap I had lying about from all my old custom roms.) My phone is working better than ever now
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Well, I flashed a clean CM9 and leaving the same modem and APN and the data worked. Nothing is different in CM10.1 with my settings , so it has to be something going on with CM10.1 . I installed it clean after i wiped the jeallybean leak
U must change your modem to ur country modem
