[Q] Where to find I9100XXLQ6 stock kernel? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am sorry if this question is a no-brainer but I have not been able to find this kernel that is mentioned in the subject line - the I9100XXLQ6 stock kernel.
I was rootet - but decided to upgrade from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4, so I did a factory reset and then downloaded the update. After the update, my device was running the I9100XXLQ6 kernel.
Then, to obtain root access again, I flashed my SGS 2 with an insecure kernel - I9100XXLQ7_INSECURE with ODIN, and then with Samsung Quick Root I got permanent root.
Now -- I was stupid. I should have done a backup of my old kernel but I failed to do so.
I would like now to flash a secure kernel version that matches my ROM - and that is the I9100XXLQ6 stock kernel.
But I can't seem to find it anywhere.
Can anybody help me?
Best regards,
Hvilsted

as far as i know, I9100XXLQ6 is the baseband, not the kernel...
feel free to correct me if im wrong

Oh God I feel stupid now.
I now realize I have no idea of what kernel I had before flashing. And I don't know how to find out or where to look for the stock kernel.
Well, I guess my device is running properly anyway. I am not going to do a factory reset again.
But - oh God - I feel stupid.
Thank you for your time.

About to flash the Siyah kernel

I'm about to get my SGSII in about an hour and the first thing I plan to do is flash the Siyah kernel through odin and gain root. Is there a way to backup the stock kernel without root before I flash this one?
Thanks in advance.
you dont need to backup the original stock kernel. you can download it anytime, just use the search function. i recommend flashing a matching stock rooted kernel for your firmware, then perform traingle away and then flash siyah from cwm.

OK, thanks for the good advice. I will definitely go that route since this is the first SGSII I've owned and you would know better than I do. Just for the record if I did it my way would it have bricked my phone?

After getting your galaxy s2,
First thing is to Post your firmware details here; Goto Settings - About phone, and post everything you see.
You might not need to flash any kernel at the end the day.
Happy Independence Day!
OK just got the phone and they didn't send it with a battery...
Anyway here is the info

Good.
1. Your device is T-Mobile variant of the Galaxy SII.
2. Flashing anything meant for GT I9100X including Siyah kernel will destroy your phone.
3. Visit the right forum for your phone, and continue from there: forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1329
Consider yourself very lucky!
Don't flash Siyah kernel at all
Happy Independence Day!
Wow thank you for saving me. Didn't realize there was a subforum for my phone. I definitely owe you one.

[Q] finding out stock kernel after flash

Hi,
i found this forum after i failed flashing my sgs2. found a tut and tried to flash it liek that, but after this the phone got stuck at loading screem with the yellow triangle. then i flashed this kernel "CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-v5.3-CWM5" and the phone is starting now, but im not able to connect it to the pc.
Now i read some posts here. I know i have to use a modded kernel that fits to my original, but i dont know it. is there some option to get this information?
i bought the phone at german amazon, so its brandfree i think.
some information:
android 4.0.4
modelumber GT-I9100
basisband I9100XXLQ6
Kernel-Version 3.0.15-I9100XXPLQ-CL223505
buildnumber IMM76D.XWLPW
greetings, tobid =)
Download Siyah kernel S2 v4.1.5. (tar for Odin)
www.gokhanmoral.com
Restart phone in Download mode and connect it to pc with Usb cable
Open Odin, load the kernel you just downloaded in Pda tab

It probably corresponded to your build (XWLPW). BUT there's really no way to tell for sure. You should always make a note of your original kernel version before flashing.
ty for ur answere.
yes, ur right. didnt know that before. would be probably the best if i flash a LPW-kernel?

If you're running that kernel with stock 4.0.4. Firmware, dont wipe wipe data/factory reset in recovery!! If you do that, you'll be affected by the superbrick bug! When that happens, motherboard replacement is the only way to go...

Dont use factory reset in Recovery if you're running stock ICS 4.0.4., or with Cf root kernel with that firmware. Use Siyah, Dorimanx, Dream kernel etc. These dont have the brick bug.

but i still confused. im sorry, im quite new to this...
im using siyah kernel, so i can reset my phone? or is there a problem, cause of the stock fw?

[Q] Assistance needed with first root of SG2 i9100

Hi guys. I have been a frequent visitor and learned alot about android and features. I am ready to root my galaxy s2 i9100
My details are :
Android version: 4.04
Model number gt-i9100
Baseband version: i9100XXLQ6
Kernal version: I9100xxlbq-cl911584
build number: IMM76D.XXLQB
I downloaded
ODIN 1.85
CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LQB-v5.6-CWM5
I am not seeing the original kernal file up for download for my version. What else do I need for my root? Is there any advice such as best method and such. Thank you kindly everyone. Mods, if I posted in the wrong section, please move my thread to the correct location.
That's all you need mate. This kernel is declared safe by Chainfire but as any 4.0.4 kernel should not be used to wipe data because of possibility of emmc cap bug rendering your phone bricked. Root with this kernel but make sure to switch to custom safe one before attempting to wipe data.
Best of luck

Essentially flashing using a 4.04 firmware will brick the phone? or is it when I flash, it will be bad to flash using a 4.04 firmware? Sooo confused.
If anyone has the steps what I should do, please tell me. I am worried about bricking.
If I root the phone, when official JB comes out, will I be able to update?
any help guys? The thread isn't very clear what do I do if I have this kernal. Do I downgrade before rooting?
Insted of flashing that Cf root kernel with Odin or Cwm, flash Siyah 4.1.5.

I actually have the same HW version in my new SGS2 and I have checked with eMMC check (downloaded from Google Play) that my chip is safe from "brick bug"
Now the question is: which kernel to choose, CF or Siyah ? I'm planning to use CyanogenMod 10 on this phone, does kernel version matter at all in this case ?
/edit:
ROM will be either original CM10 or one of the variants (like HellyBean for example)

If GotBrickbug app by CF said your chip is safe than it shouldn't matter what kernel you use. Safe hardware.
Personally I always prefer rooting with CF kernels that match my FW version. Then if you're still unsure about the chip... flash siyah, go to advanced (while still in recovery) > reboot recovery. Then wipe data with siyah kernel just to be on the safe side. I always keep siyah 3.5.2 (the first transisiontl ics/jb kernel) for those purposes. CM10 built in kernels are all considered safe so that's the last time you'll ever be worried about it.
Best of luck, man
Thank you very much, I ran emmc check and I have a sane chip.
if I flash with the CF LBQ, what is my next step?

your phone will be rooted and u can then choose to install a custom kernel like Siyah v 4.1.5 on ur phone which gives u the latest CWM recovery thro which u can install any custom rom of ur choice(meant for i9100 though) on ur phone
Thank you very much!
If my questions seemed noobish, its because I want to be very sure. It my first expensive phone.
a question though, When samsung upgrades us to JB, will I be able to update it?

Samsung releases firmware in various regions and with varied carriers. So I bet that till it is officially released it will take time but when it does you will get OTA if your are on 'STOCK' ROM. but if you move away to custom rom then you will have to update manually.

To revert back assuming you didn't do backup before, download 4.0.4 firmware for your region on sammobile and flash it using odin.. Then to upgrade it when official update are up just hit OTA, kies, or flash it via odin the same way like you flash 4.0.4..
If you don't have idea how to flash then google it, theres plenty much tutorials out there.. hope it helps
Ohhhhhh. I get it. Flash using CF, or CM 10, use triangle app to remove warning triangle and if I need to unroot, flash with 4.04 (my region) using odin? Sound pretty simple. Am I missing any steps?

Actually I get confused myself hehe, by "Flash using CF, or CM 10" you mean flash what? The rest are ok..
Well, let's put this simple, Flash the CF-Root for your phone then you're rooted now, if you want to flash custom rom such as cm10 then flash it (the cm10 zip file to be flashed on recovery mode and don't forget to read the cm10 instruction before & after flashing), if you want to get rid of the triangle then do it with triangle away, finally to unroot and revert to stock, just flash stock firmware via odin..
Hi everyone! I just rooted my phone and it was sooo easy.
Thank you so much. Your advice and help definitely made it much easier than I though.

[Q] S2 update advice

Have a Mt8s s2 GT I9100
Build Gingerbread.XWKF3 2.3.3
Kernel version 2.6.35.7-I9100XEKF3-CL276555
[email protected] #2
Baseband version I9100XXKE7
Could someone kindly advise me as to the latest and safest Android Version to update it to, with a link to file if possible.
reading so much about the s2 bricking and couldn't sort the other Mt8s stuck at boot problem am a little weary and welcome any advice.
Thank you.
Every Andrioid version is safe.
The only kernel that it isn't is 4.0.4.
So there you have it.
And don't even think about asking which ROM should you flash.

[Q] What kernel to use for XXKI4, confused about all the ROM's

Hi all,
It seems to be important to choose the correct ROM.
I have a rooted device with an XXKK2 kernel (CMRoot)
Now I want to upgrade to Jelly Bean and so I need a newer kernel.
But: can't find a kernel for XXKK2.
How can I decide what kernel to use?
And is there an explanation what all these chars mean?
Chainfire mentiones I should care about the KK2 part, but it seems there are no ROMs for ICS on this radio...
Is that true? Is the device too old?
Thanks a lot for your answer!
Pedor
More info pls go to Settings then about phone. Them details please.
Pedor you dont seem to know basic information, which is resulting in you posting total crap lol.
If you want a rooted JB setup, then go to sammobile and download a jb stock rom for your region etc, then flash philz kernel for jb.

@ OP we don't use CF Root with our S2 since the whole brick bug drama.
We now use ExynosAbuse (ICS only) , SU + BusyBox + CWM or a custom kernel like siyah ir the above suggestion.
You got the EverRoot option featured in Chainfire's Mobile Odin Pro.
