some question here sir? im using UK official firmware 4.0.4 XWLPY. here's the problem. when i turned on the battery indicator. my battery indicator is not constant. example is. when my battery has 66%and a few minutes later it goes up to 67,68,69%. then later on goes down. is this normal? or hardware problem or battery problem only? thx for your answer.
It's normal just after disconnecting the charger, because it takes the fuel-gage chip some time to adjust the battery percentage. But if you're having this problem even in the middle of a cycle you can try a fuel-gage reset in Extweaks if you are using Siyah or Dori kernel

It's normal. It's your battery calibrating itself.

my neo's battery has suddenly gone out of calibration. it shows 20% battery when its actually zero and when charged stays at 100% for quite some time. iv tried many apps to check the battery level bt they all tell me that theres still 20% left when its actually zero and the fone shuts down and then starts charging from 20% when connected to the charger. its running stock 4.0.2.a.0.42. any idea whats wrong with it?
also where can i get a copy of the .62 global firmware to update using flashtool?

try battery test from service menu via *#*#SERVICE#*#*
Battery calibration is a myth (https://plus.google.com/105051985738280261832/posts/FV3LVtdVxPT). Try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery after a few seconds, helped me when I had a drop of 30 to switching itself off in a course of few minutes.
@OP:have you installed any app for show status of battery like battery indicator, or any other app which is related to battery or charging?
I had similar problems(10% shuts down) with battery indicator.
I ran the battery test from the service menu bt didnt let it finish..still it did the trick..its ok now

Hi XDA'ers,
I have a small problem regarding for the battery indicator in the status bar.
When i was charging it i notice for 4hr still the indicator charging so i decided to
install a battery widget, and i saw that in the widget it is indicate full, but in the status bar indicator still charging.
And idea how i can solve this problem?
I'm using ICS 4.0.3 full version.
Maybe widget shows information wrong, try installing an app like setxperia by inteks and try to monitor battery life from it.both battery levels shown by phone settings & setxperia is same on my phone with stock ics
i do it already, actually i check my battery it says that battery is in good condition.
i notice also that when my battery is 5% i will charge it and it will appear in the battery widget that it will full charge within 4hrs and then after 4hours it is correct, but in the status bar still charging...
may be i made a mistake in flashing?
Try charging the phone switched off overnight, it will fully charge then take the case off remove the battery with the charger in wait for it to attempt to boot then disconnect the charge replace the battery and boot the phone when it boots you'll see the battery level has dropped connect the charger and let it finish fully chargeing.
All your readings should now match if not you may want to replace the battery

hi mpiekp,
i did already what you told me but still same. now i just went to the SE service centre to check my unit. they said that everything is perfect even the battery is in good condition. they told me that i made a wrong flashingnow i'm trying to re-flash again to see what happens.
The problem you have is not a problem....

Thanks for this gregbradley. but this is not exactly my problem. it is in the indicator from the status bar. it indicates always charging continuously even the battery widget indicator is at full.
Are you sure it's indicating charging and not just being plugged in?

yes dude. when i connect the charger you will see the battery indicator moving in the status bar. but in the battery widget is already full. it's kinda weird isn't?
i found the solution! i will tell to everyone shortly i will just make a compile for this so that if someone have also this problem, well maybe this is also their answer.

it all begins in flashing....
Before this happens, im just looking for an full rom of ICS and i found one in NEO V so i use that one, then using the original kernel. after that i root the phone and make some mod. unfortunately i saw this problem which is the battery indicator.
The solution only is the kernel... hahaha!
I dont know exactly why because im not a hacker or programmer something like that. but i use the nightelf without zram. and all are working perfectly. indicators are 100% working and most of all. from 9am-10:30pm my battery is @ 70% without closing wifi and bluethooth....
maybe someone also have this experience so you can try this kernel...
thanks to night-elf for the kernel...

Is there anyway to stop my S3 from turning off overnight while on charge? I use my phone all day so the battery is around 10%(ish) when I go to bed so I put it on charge and about 50% of the time my phone turns it's self off over night. I need my phone to stay on as I use it for an alarm. Is there any way to stop this? Is my S3 faulty?

Is it running JB? If so, it might be running the battery down for that last 10% faster than it can charge. If you are on ICS, it should charge just fine. When it turns itself off, does it continue to charge?

It's on ICS (WanamLite Rom) and Siyah Kernel. It appears to continue to charge as the screen just has a full green battery in the middle of the screen and when you turn it on the battery is 100%.

At least it is still charging. I don't use WanamLite, so I don't know if it has any custom low power setttings or any reason it should function like that. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
It definitively should not power off.
Try flashing to stock and check if the issue still occurs.
It might be the battery overheating and killing power which _should_ only happen when there is a hardware defect.
Of course it could also be a problem wrth some app or a unknown bug in Wanamlite, hence why you should f/ash stock to test.

Then why do we have apps for calibrating battery such as:

I think those calibrate apps only reset the battery stat.
Sent from Hubble Telescope
In case of a sudden drop in battery level to 0%, Sony tech service recommends that you fully charge the battery with the wall charger and then remove all power sources to the phone (no battery, no USB cable) for 5 to 10 minutes, return the battery and power up the phone and then recharge back to 100%. If the sudden drop was due to a problem with the power meter, then you should see a drop in battery % when you turn your phone back on.
Google says reseting the battery stats is useless: http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...-battery-stats-does-not-improve-battery-life/
hi thanks for suggestions but there is no sudden drop in battery instead it only restarts and the battery level remains same after restart..
also I've tried wiping battery stats and process as said by justmpm it didn't work out...is it an h/w problem or battery issue ?

Are you undervolting? Because a stable setting at full power may not be stable when the battery is depleted.....
I flashed stock ftf file of .587 to confirm that kernal isn't undervolting and still problem exists,
Im not sure why its draining even when the device is off. Is it the S3 or the battery thats faulty? Anyone had similar experience?

this is the reason why im updating the firmware of my s3. from 4.0.4 to 4.3 jelly bean. im not yet done downloading the stock rom.
by the way what is your firmware? is it because of "cell standby" when you look at the status of your battery?.

my android is 4.1.2. What are the sign that my battery is leaking?
If the phone is turned off and the the battery is discharging it's most likely a bad battery. What's the voltage of the battery when fully charged? It should be 4.2v; if it's less then your battery is bad and doesn't hold a full charge anymore.

I just left my device turned off(as in power off) and saw that my device is heating up. Is this caused by software? does s3 still need battery to function while powered off? I just lost 10% while powered off for about an hour. This is really strange. What process is running when the phone is off?
Dirty contacts ???

Yes I have the same experience.
It seems to be the problem with the phone because I tested this on the OEM battery and Anker battery (3rd party brand with good reputation, not some cheap china batteries).
I never turn the phone on when I tested this, but you can see the battery level indicator when you plug in the charge cable. I had both batteries charged to full (green light comes on) then pull the charge cable. When I replug the cable (and phone is off of course), both batteries can lose up to maybe 1/10 of the level bar as soon as 2 hours!! The level is nearly zero after 24 hours.
I charged up the batteries full again, then took it out and leave it out overnight. The phone shows full battery level when I put the battery back in the following day.
When the phone is switched off, it still consumes battery eg. to keep the clock running, but it should drain really slowly. Maybe it is the problem with the S3 battery level reporting, or maybe something is eating battery. I never felt any heat when the phone is off, plugged in for charging or not.
