How to hide app preview in Task Manager? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello people,
I would like to know if its possible to hide the app preview in Android 4.1.1 built in Task Manager (long press Home button). I'm talking about the image next to app icon/name, showing the screen of the app before you closed it/put it in background. For example my issue is that when i close Facebook Messenger, if someone opens task manager he/she can view who i was texting/and what, right before i minimized the app. You would ask me well what if he just opens it and see the entire conversation. I have set a password to be given even if someone opens it through Task Manager. Also i have the app icon hidden from App drawer. The only thing is that he/she can still access the preview screen through the Task Manager, hence see some critical data from before the app was put to the background..
(I use Omega v29 rom and Siyah 1.7rc1 kernel)
Thank you

Man....don't cheat on your girlfriend, mkay?

Is there an app to navigate between apps recently opened

Hi, so a long press on 'home' brings the last 6 apps used. It's so basic it's sad. Is there a way to replace this with a better task switcher? Yes I know how Android manages RAM. I do not want a task killer, but a task switcher that replaces the existing one.
Does that exist? Thank you!
Tried searching the Market?
Task Manager ?
Ok obviously this is frustrating, I think my question has merit and I get the rolling eyes smileys.
Yes I have searched the market. From the ones I tried (must have tried 5 or 6 of them) *not one* of these apps replaces the 'hold home for 2 seconds' behaviour. Not one.
Further more, a lot of them *do not work* on the SGS2. Perfect task switcher fails to render the screenshots for example, other freeze, other are plain broken - displaying all running processes including 'android system'.
What I'm looking for is something that replaces the 2 sec long press and display the most recent used apps.
Maybe try quickdesk.

LauncherPro has such a feature. You can set one of the dock buttons to "recent apps" and it'll fill your entire screen with your recent apps, not just 6.

[Q] recent app button

does anyone know how to clear the recent apps so there is not a long list? is there anyone that I could shorten it to only show my last 3 apps?
thanks again

If you hold your Power button down a while, a list of options will come up. Select Power Off. This will power down your tablet. When you restart it the list will be cleared.
What type of things do you have on your recent list "sexfreak"?
there are things there that are adult oriented, I also dont like how it shows the last picture taken. I was hoping for something a little more slick then powering it off and on, like maybe shortening the list that it would display, or a "app" or link that would clear it out.

Just use one of the Task Manager apps then kill all the processes.
i use advance task killer, it free's the memory up but still leaves the "history " should I use a different task killer?
Developers can mark their apps to not show in recent apps list, but the list itself is only modifiable by android OS. So I think there is no a task killer/manager which can help you.
You can reboot tab or open as many app as needed to hide your problematic app from the lsit
So far Task manager will not clear your recent app list. Only solution I have found is rebooting the device.
Does anyone know where the data is stored? Would it be possible to navigate to the location of the file and clear it that way?

has anyone noticed that after you kill an app that it will start on its own? gmail, books, clock, browser, craigslist, google voice and others will start up after I "kill" them

App killer on lock screen?

Hi.
I need an app that kills all apps upon lock screen to save battery power so I don't have to do so manually.
Can any one advise a good app?

hi,
take a look at "fast reboot" app market .?there is a free version ,dont know if it has settings option ?( actually, the pro version has settings , to be correct )
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.greatbytes.fastreboot&hl=en
Install, open fast reboot setting ( small gears in left bottom corner of app )Select , 2 nd option "Auto reboot options " and tick your option's ...on unlock and you can set on lock also .
If you know this app, then you will know it does not really reboot but closes (kill ) and opens up app ,excellent app .
Been using it for years (you will see market figures thats it very popular )
good luck
The free version have no settings and I have to click the fast boot icon for it to close apps.
Thanks for the reply.
Anyone else have any good apps that can automatically kill apps when I turn screen off?

most likely you will remove that application, bcoz neither it will save your battery and may it drain more battery than saving by closing app.
If your application remain in BG, it will just take some RAM not juice, and everytime single application try to kill appliction in BG with screen off will drain more juice.
there is also in built option for this if still you want it, go to setting - development option - limit background process, you can set your desired level.
You can use ZDBox, its free and have so many utilities, the task killer can kill all non marked running tasks when lockscreen comes. Check it out, i love this app.

Searching app - Automatically kill current displayed app

I have a nice feature on my Honor 7.
I have a configurable physical button on its left. with it, i can launch any app i want.
At another hand there is a strange thing in Android : most of the time, you cannot close an application directly. you have to switch screen and then drop the icon's app out. Not very fast nor that practical in everyday's life ...
So my idea is to find and app killer that would instantly kill the displayed app when i press on the button.
What do you think about this idea ?
Do you think that such app exists ?
Thanks.

Swiping an app closed in Task Manager permanenently closes it... Help!

Hey all. Quick question. My Le Max 2 has had a weird issue since I received it. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced the same or knows of a fix.
I have noticed that if I open an app and then swipe it closed using the task manager (recent apps button and swiping it closed) that the app will no longer function until I manually open the app again. 2 examples. The Google clock app. I set an alarm last night and swiped the app closed and this morning my alarm didn't sound. I tested it this morning, and as long as I leave the app running in the background, the alarm will go off. But if I swipe it closed from task manager, it kills the app and the alarm will never sound.
The second example is a little more bothersome. I have noticed that unless I leave my SMS/MMS app running in the background, I will NOT get any text or MMS message at all. I use TEXTRA and as long as it's open and running in the background, I'm good. But if I swipe it closed, I will not receive any text or MMS messages. To be clear, it's not that I'm not notified... it's that the text message or MMS will NEVER come thru if the app is swipe closed. They don't even show up if I open the app after the fact. Ive tested this many times with my kids sending me messages with their phones. So I leave textra open at all times.
Finally, a nitpick, has anyone noticed that changing the font size in the display settings, doesn't reliably change the font size system wide? Example, I use gmail and when I open it the font settings are miniscule, despite me having the font set to extra large in the display settings. However, if I leave gmail open and go to display settings menu and change the font size from extra large to small and then back to extra large again and then I go back to the gmail app, the font size is larger and readable. Kind of annoying.
Thanks!
For your first issue I would recommend you not to close any app and try to lock in the memory the ones that are important like whatsapp, Viber, etc... Assuming that your model has at least 4 GB of RAM, it's useless to close the running apps. This is not windows and it works in a different way. It will take some time to get used to not pressing the "Close All" button, but believe me, it's useless. For the other thing with the font I'm not sure what to say. It might be an EUI bug that should be fixed in the future updates.
Currently I'm running CM13 S19 by Parasite and I never close any app. I'm still trying to convince my wife to change her habit but looks like she's possessed by closing her apps on S6 edge+, also a 4GB of RAM device

Thanks a lot for the reply. Makes sense. Is there a way to "lock" the apps open in memory, or are you just saying to change my habits so that they stay open? Could you explain the method if there is a way? Thanks again.
While in Task Manger (Recents or how you like yo call it, or maybe even "Control Center") swipe down on an app instead of swiping up to close it, and you will see a lock icon on the app in the Task Manager. Then when you'll press by mistake the "Close All", this app will be omitted.

just put cm13 on, imo the official rom is useless

Fantastic. Thanks so much for your help. That's helpful. I don't seem to have a close all button tho. Lol.
