Hey,
I have a huge problem, people.
I've had some issues with one of the ROMs that I tested, so decided to restore my Nandroid Backup. I've wiped everything and runned the Nandroid Restore of my previous - working ROM (EzHero 1.2.1) - everything looked as if it worked fine, the operation was completed succesfully. So, given that I've chosen reboot phone option in the Recovery (AmonRa 1.6.2) and it turned on with a regular booting screen and just stuck on it. It's been like 2hrs and I'm constantly stuck on this "loading" screen and cannot turn the mobile off either by holding Power or Power Home or Power Home Back. Nothing. I don't wanna take the battery out as I heard that it can be devastating.
So, to clarify all of that, I have a phone connected via cable (yet no connection through ADB) to PC, so the battery would not discharge and the phone itself is stuck on booting logo/animation, the one just before it goes into the usual desktop screen.
How can I go about it to restore it?
Thanks!
Do you have App2SD ?? If yes it may took ages to boot when you do a first boot... But that only works if you had done a Nandroid + Ext...
Its fine to take your battery out,... Reset and give it another try at booting. If it fails again, try booting without SD in. If it fails again, try doing another restore of your nandroid. Fail again,... Full wipe then reflash ROM.
There is only risk of bricking when flashing a new radio and interrupting the process.

I do have apps2sd but haven't done +Ext.
When I soft-reseted the device it obviously went into boot loop again BUT I have managed to connect it to my PC through ADB now and wonder if I could use it to my advantage?

The problem is my phone IS stuck at boot loop and even if I soft reset it I don't have enough time to press POWER and HOME to go into Recovery so I cannot check if I could do restore. Would connection through ADB help as I currently after soft reset have it?
I have to clear something up my phone is in the boot loop but not as in that it reboots itself time after time - NO! It just sticks on the booting animation and that's it.
Oh, and running this "fastboot boot recovery-RA-hero-v1.6.2.img" through ADB just sits stuck at "< waiting for the device >" though I _can_ list the contents of my Hero through shell.
Also when I press vol up or vol down in the state with startup screen beeing stuck I can hear it same way as if I heard it in the working phone - as in beeping when pressing up and beeping lower when down.
I'm not so clued up on fastboot commands to be honest.
Take your battery out,... Hold HOME and put your battery back in..... KEEPING HOME HELD IN
OK! Finally after finding enough courage to do so I pulled the battery out as ddotpatel advised me to - I have to say it was scary 30s, real scary. Anyway, it seemed that his advice was correct and he is in fact a very wise man - THANK YOU! Afterwards I've done all the wipes again as I did initially and instead of trying to recover it from my Nandroid backup I just gave up and reflashed it again. It didn't work, so I reformated and repartitioned the SD card and it's all good now... And I'm a happy puppy! Actually, I'm no puppy at all but I am happy nonetheless.
@ddotpatel Thank you sir! You are a Gentleman and a Scholar and I shall praise your name forever on this and other Android forums alike. ^__^ Just a quick question though: removing a battery is prohibited only when flashing radio and when the phone's on the "phone & a box/arrow" picture, right? So if I ever have an booting/issue error whilst flashing custom ROMs that do nothing to the radio I should be fine poping the battery?
I know I sad it trice already but - ddotpatel, sir, THANK YOU!

No worries, mate! My post count did not go up to 73 in like 5 days for no reason. I try to help as much as I can and also would not run into those problems if I wouldn't flash and benchmark many ROMs (posting all the stats for the same configurations & settings) here for others to decide on their own which they liked best either. ^__^
Peace!
Right, so my i5503T (Australian) was having some wi-fi troubles. I looked it up, and it was suggested to me that I upgrade to Cyanogenmod 7 (for Galaxy 5). Anyway, I installed Clockworkmod, it was fine, then I hard reset the phone (through Clockworkmod) and from then on, when booting it got to the flashing samsung, and stayed there for over 3 hours. After that I turned it off. I did the stupid thing, and went ahead installing Cyanogenmod. Now, as soon as I turn it on, it says 'ANDROID' in small white text in the top-right corner of the screen, and won't go away, EVER. ANY help would be very much so, I got the phone as a gift for chistmas..... *facepalm*
Thanks.
EDIT: It was (natively?) running Froyo before I broke it, and I would like to get it back there, or better (Cyanogenmod).
I have a working Eclair rom (2.1), but I don't want to use it...
Are you able to get it into download mode at all?
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
Yea, I can get into download mode fine, but booting up, not so much.
Update: I used Check Fus Downloader to get firmware, had to use New Zealand as there was no actual Aussie model availible (???). Anyway, I flashed it with odin 4.28 (please tell me it is the right version!) and it is doing the same thing, with the flashing Samsung logo and all. Also, it vibrates once, then three times a few seconds later, then repeats every.... ummm, 30 secs?
Hey, I'm not an expert on this subject but I have messed around with my Galaxy 5 a lot, I broke it 4 times, but I'm guessing your problems could be fixed by;
Shove your device into Download Mode.
Use Odin to flash Clockwork Recovery.
It should now reboot into CW recovery.
Clear dalvik cache, cache and do a reset.
That might sort out any problems as my phone did this after my first flash but clearing the above sorted it out, if that doesn't work then do the same again but then; try flashing another rom onto your device, and see how it goes.
Somebody with more knowledge should correct my post if need be.

try removing your battery and let it out for few minutes, 2 min is enough, than insert the battery and reboot..
hope that solve your loop..
P.S.: did you do a wipe?
Could it have anything to do with the fact I have a i5503T, and that the ops is i5508?
OK, well it's fixed now, sorry for the trouble. It turned out I was missing one of the cyanogenmod files. Soooo, yeah I fell like a massive idiot, but everything turned out fine and well. Cyanogenmod is heaps better than Froyo, so I'm glad about that. Thanks all.

I had the same thing happen to me, I believe it happened because I left it connected to the PC after the upgrade and it couldn't access the SD card to finish installing the Apps. I disconnected it from the PC and rebooted the phone and it finished installing the applications just fine.

thank you, i did left it connected to the PC. That maybe the reason. But how long it takes to finish after you disconnected and reboot it?
It should only take at maximum I would say a minute or two. I had 145 apps and then whichever ones they added on and I would say it only took about two minutes. Good luck.

I'll take a closer look, but that appears to be for a different phone, which is why I didn't thoroughly go through it. I will now. Ugh... This is bad.
Clear the cache. That will trigger it to run that upgrading applications crap agian
Right. You got a bad download (redo it with Kies) or your phone should be wiped as suggested above.
I've done some searching and come up with nothing so maybe I'm overlooking something or I need help. I flashed the AOSP ROM and was attempting to clear out the SD card and make sure everything was in its place when I rebooted my phone only to be greeted with a LG logo for a second or two followed by a black screen and nothing else. The first thing I tried was to reboot into recovery and it didn't go. So then I tried to power the phone off and make sure I was hitting the combo correctly and got nothing. Again. So I'm scratching my head wondering what to do next. I though I might need to use LGNPST but I can't find a download for it (I will join the IRC and get it that way if I need to but I wanna be sure before bothering anyone in there). What do I need to do? Am I SOL? Is there anything I can check for to see just how bricked I am? Thanks for the help and I'll keep looking while I wait for replies. I appreciate it, guys.
Edit: After LGNPST was giving me a hanging boot animation I did a hard reset with vol down and power. It prompted me to reset, I did that and now everything is working. Thank you all and hopefully this can help someone else in the future.

Yes, I can.
Went ahead and found LGNPST and the instructions to use it. It should all put me back where I need to be but if it doesn't for some crazy reason then I'll bump the thread.
Alright, I thought LGNPST would work but I'm missing something apparently. I'm getting a reboot at 67%, which is normal, and then LGNPST jumps to 85% which I assume is also normal. After that the phone does the at&t boot animation and sound and then it just hangs up at "Rethink Possible" with LGNPST saying it was disconnected and to cycle the power (which I have tried, and I also tried just letting it boot, and rebooting and letting it boot and they all yield the same results). What is going on? What am I missing here? I've tried on a desktop running XP and a laptop running Windows 7 and the phone is still booting to the animation and seems to be working alright from a hardware standpoint so I don't know what the deal is. I'm gonna keep trying but any help or troubleshooting steps I should try would be greatly appreciated. I'm sorry for the triple post, as well. I just really would like to get this fixed tonight so I can sleep haha.
Edit: I'm gonna charge it while I sleep and see if anything changes. It will charge and I charged it for about 45 minutes before trying LGNPST after I found out it would charge. When it first came on it said the battery was too low and it needed to before booting so maybe that's my issue with it booting the new rom or finishing LGNPST. To get to where I am all I did was flash AOSP coming from SnowJB (the LGOG version, NOT the N4 conversion version) and tried to clear out my SD card. I'm guessing that's where I messed something up but it could have been anything, including a hardware failure. I've read about a lot of folks having a similar issue with no resolution and either saying they'll return it or the thread dead ends and nothing else is said. If anyone has any advice I'd appreciate it and if charging helps then I'll report back as well so as not to leave anyone hanging if they stumble upon this thread and need help. I also think it's time for a LGNPST thread with links to the program and steps on how to use it and all that jazz to culminate all these issues. I'm not sure why it has to be so hidden and hard to get to.
LGNPST can't be shared publicly due to legal reasons. To get your phone to boot try a hard reset. From powered off state hold volume down and power buttons. When screen appears select reset.
Edit...If that doesn't work your miscellaneous partition may be messed up, Shelnutt2 on irc can help with that.

I didn't even think about retrying a hard reset after I got it to go as far as the boot animation. It worked! Thank you, so much. And everyone who replied thank you too! Thank you guys so much. If I had more than just thanks I would surely give it.
I have an E970 which I have loved over the past 16 months. Love it. It's not rooted or modded in any way, but I had it set up real nice.
I was at the hospital emergency room yesterday visiting someone and had some time to kill, so I updated some apps that needed updating. I did this over LTE, not hospital WIFI. I mention this because of what happened next.
Last night I started getting an error message when I attempted to get into the settings: "unfortunately settings has stopped." Everything else looked normal at this point.
Of course, the first thing I did was reboot and there was no change.
So, I did a little research and the suggestion was:
1) something you installed or updated last messed it up, try uninstalling the updates.
2) try putting the phone into safe mode and see if it works.
So I uninstalled the apps I had updated while at the hospital. Swiftkey keyboard, Chrome, Dolphin, the MyAT&T app (never used), and some others. About 12 in all. No dice, settings was still not working.
So after another reboot, I put the phone into safe mode (which I didn't know existed on Android). It took a long time to reboot into safe mode, much longer than a normal reboot. Settings was still not working. Same errror. Thats when things got worse.
Rebooted back out of safe mode. It still took a long time to reboot. Now not only does settings not work, but now the notification area on the top of the screen is gone, the notiication shade is now gone, and long pressing home does not bring up task manager. I am able to get into the settings for the home screen and the lock screen via the menu key. I cannot access sound settings or wifi or anything else in settings. I also lost my wallpaper. The LG launcher was still working as was the LG lock screen. All else looks fine, my MMS, contacts, email, etc.
This morning, I tried rebooting again. Now the phone won't boot past the white AT&T logo after the animation and sound plays.
I tried removing the sim and the sd card. No change. No boot.
What the hell happened to my phone and what should I do?
At this point I realize I'm probably going to lose everything in my phone memory, and I'm at peace with that. I had my photos and media all on my SD card, but my contacts and my text messages from the last 16 months are going to be gone.
I am not versed in rooting or recovery, though I am actually very technical. I would appreciate any assistance anyone could give. Thank you.

Two option that I can think are a factory reset and restoring with a program named lgnpst.
Factory reset would be simplest if it works, but will definitely wipe your phone.
Using lgnpst usually doesn't wipe the phone. Let me know how you want to proceed.

First of all, thank you very much for replying!
LGNPST doesn't wipe the phone? Well, I'm all for that if it works. Boy, I thought for sure I was 100% going to lose everything. Now at least maybe there is a tiny chance of not losing everything.
I had joined the lg-optimus-g irc and user autoprime directed me to the guide there. I downloaded and installed tSilenzio's Automated LGNPST already. I was going to use it to flash the stock rom, but I didn't do that yet. Is that what you need me to do with LGNPST, flash the stock rom or does LGNPST have other options? Please let me know, I'll wait for your reply, sir!
