[Q] [REQ] Help INSTALL - Stock GS3 Camera - ONTO Modded Rom (Paranoid-rom) - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I need help installing the STOCK GS3 Camera app & Gallery to my Paranoid-ROM v2+.
I'm a not a frequent poster to XDA but i have read many a posts so I know a thing or two (At least 2 things total =P).
I also know I NEED HELP to do this, since I'm still a novice compared to many of you on this site.
Since I don't know enough, I've tried some controlled experiments below... ok I tried brute forcing it through various combinations. But after about 6 hours of reading and attempts, I'm out of ideas and with nothing to show for it.
I used the following files so far:
SamsungCamera_HX-MOD.zip
Camera_HX-MOD_1.52_CWM.zip
-----
A SUMMARY OF ATTEMPTS:
I have downloaded HX Mod, Stock Camera app.
Enabled root for Apps and ADB.
Copy & Paste-
Experimented with permissions settings in Root Explorer for the Stock Camera app to read/write/execute, set uid, set guid, sticky
All install attempts failed
CWM
Experimented with a mix of copying camera apps, and flashing zip.
I never saw one single new file after flashing any zips, be it the camera, or the camera mod. Also tried subsequent zip flashing of camera zip first followed by the HX mod 2nd and a reboot, still no new files displayed.
-----
What I've gleaned so far, if it helps you help me:
The Gallery apk of the Paranoid-ROM has a built in activity shortcut for the camera, camera prefrences, and video camera.
I theorize replacing the gallery will remove the camera app and video app, freeing any conflicts, but I DONT KNOW ENOUGH of what steps I am missing to sucessfully install the STOCK GS3 Cam, and gallery in its place.
-----
ANY HELP would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!
Thanks in advance.

[Q] Gallery won't work, need stock apk

Well, my girlfriend updated her Galaxy S3 a couple of days ago, and suddenly the gallery wouldn't work. It just showed up as com.sec.android.gallery3d in the app drawer. I've done everything in my power, even rooted the damn thing, but nothing seems to work.
Amidst my ferocious attack on the problem I seem to have gotten rid of the "faulty" gallery apk and can't find a good one via google that works.
Odd thing is that at first the com.sec.android.gallery3d app was missing from /system/app. When I did a search for "gallery" I found SecGallery2013.apk that was called "com.sec.android.gallery3d" in it's properties. Kind of like a symlink I think.
That original SecGallery2013.apk is now gone with the wind for some reason (my ADHD took over a while). I actually found a com.google.android.gallery3d that works (but not original) and com.sec.android.gallery3d-2be92cef98aab5194d4ae68382324577.apk (took away the number at the end of course) that seems to be the original, but crashes constantly.
I'm at a loss, hence why I did the topic name "need stock apk", as that might fix things.
Though somewhere on the filesystem (I'm still somewhat of a noob as to how android is built) there were once a folder called com.sec.android.gallery3d which is not there anymore. Any attempts at installing the apk has, obviously, also failed.
I've read almost every other possible solution, but all of them seem to be under the impression that I would have the sense to backup every single thing...
Help!
What android, firnware are you running right now?
You can get the gallery app from any STOCK BASED flashable zip (many lite version roms available in this forum). Just open the zip, look under system/app or something similar, take the apk file, put it in system/app of your own phone with rw-r-r permissions, then reboot.
Stock system apps can't be just installed, they must be manually placed in system/app directory.
Try to flash Google Apps from CWM or TWRP (I assume you already flashed CWM or TWRP with Odin)
A brief explanation of Google Apps:
Apps like Play Store, Gallery, Camera, etc... Or the stock proprietary software made by Google are all in this one zip file called GApps, All you need to know is how to flash ZIPs (easy as 1,2,3) and the GApps for your android version.
Other options:
Find another 3rd party Gallery alternative from Google Play (EASIEST)
Flash CyanogenMod or an alternate ROM (Too risky just for getting gallery back)
Just get the images from the device to your computer
Well that's all I got, PM me if you need anything, hit "Thanks" if I helped you

Help, my XZU camera is gone.

Hi, I've installed the Lenovo super cam on my XZU, but it seems like it replaced the stock camera and now it's gone. I already deleted the Lenovo camera, but the stock never showed up.
I've been looking this forums for the stock camera, but seems like they are hundreds of camera apps but the stock one. Any idea how to get it back? Or where to get a copy of the original one? Besides a complete wipe, because I've just format and reinstall all my apps, and I don't want to do it again.
Thanks in advance.

Not the answer you want, but the stock camera is crap. try "a better camera".
You should be able to keep all the installed apps/data by flashing the latest FTF and make sure that the wipe data option is not selected

Hi, Thanks for your sugestions
I started to looking for ways to get it back, until I remember That I can uninstall updates, and so I did. Uninstalled the camera updates and voila .
Actually the camera isnt That bad, specially when you install the Z2 addons, and use the Cybershot module of Xposed Framework, wich allow to Take photos in full res.
I've used the other cameras, but to Take pictures with pacient, for quick shots of random thingslile wire sets, diagrams and That kind of pics , the stock camera is ok.

[i9305] Every rom below 4.4= Camera fails (speaker noise)

Hi,
Aside from the stock Samsung rom- every other rom built on 4.3 results in a broken camera.
I've tried several (rXtreme, Aroma etc) and in every one, the same thing happens. When I open up the camera, I can hear a faint sound/clicking from the camera area/speaker. Then it says "Camera Failed"
Dumb thing to say, but it's like the rom makes it think the speaker is the camera, and is sending power to it to launch the camera.
On stock Samsung roms (ie 4.3), and any roms on 4.4+, the camera DOES work. However, I need HDMI support so I cannot use 4.4.
I've tried all the solutions suggested eg SlimISP's files, different mods/roms/fixes etc. It's been happening for 6 months- so I had to switch back to Apple
Please give me any ideas here- I really want to get back on Android
Probably some files left over from previous firmware, do a full wipe before flashing.
Do this:
1. Flash stock, open camera, test that it works.
2. Use your favorite file browser with root access (Samsung MyFiles or whatitsname doesn't work) and go to to /data/cfw
3. Find .bin file there, that's your Camera FirmWare, copy it to a safe location.
4. Flash favorite 4.3 mod with favorite 4.3 custom kernel with SE permessive. (Agni or Boeffla, or use stock, but be aware that certain themes make WiFi not work)
5. Open camera, confirm it doesn't work.
6. Copy .bin file into /data/cfw, re-open camera.
I know you tested SlimISP files, but this method works ALWAYS for me, at least on AMCHA 5.x and TGP
Also, the alternative is to flash custom rom with stock kernel. Open camera to generate SlimISP bin. Flash custom kernel

Thanks so much for the reply.
So, I've written the stock rom onto my device (un-rooted). Problem is, because of Knox, I cannot root the stock software. I've tried removing Knox and a few methods, but I just can't root it. I'm using Odin 3.09. Am I missing something?

[Q] Change Lockscreen Default Camera OC1

I'm trying to figure out how to change the default camera app that opens, from stock camera to Google Camera when entering from the stock lockscreen. I am on @muniz_ri's stock Lollipop ROM (non-MDK version).
On Kit Kat, a default app-picker dialogue box would appear and I could choose which camera app I wanted to default to. Apparently, Samsung decided it would be better to force feed us their camera app.
I tried: Opening Contacts> add contact picture> take picture> choosing stock camera, then: Task Manager> clear defaults> clear camera from list...to no avail.
Anyone know of a way to achieve this?
If you want to, you could try this.
Backup first.
Try renaming the Samsung camera apk to.bak , then rename the Google camera to the original Samsung apk name, reboot, and give it a try.
If things blow up, revert renaming, or restore backup if necessary.

I thought about doing that. But I haven't flashed the deodexed version, and the stock camera is odexed, while Google Camera isn't. I'm afraid that might present a bit of an issue. And also, Touchwiz's camera has deep ties into the kernel.

MTK6582 clone camera not working

I tried porting several ROMs (from mtkroms.com) from 4.4.2 to 6.0, and succedeed, but I can't get camera to work. It just says "Can't connect to the camera". I edited ported BOOT.IMG (init.rc) with camera settings from my stock ROM, but to no avail.
Also, I tried to copy various camera files from stock ROM's lib and hw folders to port ROM, but nothing. Everything else on the phone works perfectly.
Yup, I tried some other camera apps, but none of them work (app starts but there is no picture, and then app freezes).
The phone has front and back camera, but neither one works.
Phone is Intelkom Meanit Promise MQ512, Chinese MTK6582 clone.
Can anybody give me me any advice? Thank you!
