Trying to update via OTA - Verizon HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE

So I was one of the lucky few who actually got their phone rooted before the HTC/Verizon lockdown and now that the OTA update is available it goes straight to recovery. Judging by my initial research I am going to have to re-flash the stock recovery image and then get the update and use whatever the new method is to root?
I would assume I could just wait till we get some custom roms now that it looks like progress is being made for temp root. However that may pose a problem for me if I want to wake up in the morning (as the phone reboots) and go to my job haha.
I found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769622 but I don't understand why it's an exe file... shouldn't it be a zip so I can drop it on the SD card?

That is an RUU, Rom Upgrade Utility, and it is an executable because your phone has to be connected to the computer with the proper drivers installed to be able to run it. It writes everything to the phone as it was when the phone came out, including HBOOT and recovery. Since you have unlocked, you could run that RUU and be completely stock on the same version as when the phone came out, and still unlock again since the MID has already been used on HTCDev. However, that file isn't the new update, and I don't know where you could get the new RUU without paying for it currently. Even so, if you were to use the RUU, it changes the HBOOT version, so you may not be able to unlock again.
In the past, I have seen people claim to be able to install an OTA on their current ROM by pulling the update file from /cache and flashing it in recovery, but I don't know if that will work for our phone or not.
I haven't seen anyone post the zip with the upgrade in it yet, so if you haven't received the OTA notification, it won't be in your /cache folder.

Try Voodoo OTA rootkeeper in the marketplace. And it restored my root after the OTA. To use OTA rootkeeper, you need to run it once for applying the OTA. There are some youtube videos to help you further.

The best way to install (IMO) the RUU is by pulling the rom.zip from the RUU and then running the RUU in boot-loader.
That's what I did for the two phones we tested S-OFF successfully on.
To pull the rom.zip from the RUU refer to this tutorial.

You have to be a Premium member to download that. Someone said they were going to upload it somewhere else that hosts for free at that size but never did.

Yeah, if I could get that I suppose I could just flash it and not worry.
I'll try some of the above methods tomorrow when I have time I suppose and let you know or it looks like it will let me keep deferring it so I could just do that until we get ROMs or a free version of the above build.

I'll try and upload it, most sites wont let u because of the size..
4shared.com i think is the only one, and u might need to sign up but its free..

[Gingerbread][ROM] Stock Rooted OTA ROM w/ Firmware [Gingerbread]

THE BEST WAY TO GET THE NEW FIRMWARE IS TO RELOCK, RUN THE NEW RUU, UNLOCK, THEN REFLASH RECOVERY AND RE-ROOT WITH THE TUTORIAL IN MY SIGNATURE.
THIS IS GINGERBREAD NOT ICS
Thanks to hgoldner for taking the time to install the OTA update and get me a rooted system image to work with!
Anyway...
This is the late January/early Feburary GingerBread OTA update integrated into the rezound shipped stock rom. No new features other than what the OTA adds other than root and custom recovery based installation support. That isn't the point of this rom.
What will this get you:
1. New stock rom with OTA update built in
2. New firmware like hboot, radio, etc. Won't impact the ability to unlock/relock
3. Any rom fixes htc made.
If this doesn't work for some reason, it is probably my fault but it should work. Any damage caused to your device is your problem, not mine, hgoldner, htc, anyone except you. This does push the new firmware to your device via a PH98IMG.zip. If this could brick, but is very unlikely. The PH image is UNTOUCHED from the HTC release.
Thanks to ardreissig for the reupload!
Download
Info on installing. You unfortunately have to relock for the firmware flash to occur if you are S-ON.
So if you want firmware (these are abbreviated, general outline steps for more advanced users):
1: Install in recovery
2: Relock if you are S-ON. Remember this will wipe your internal sd card. But since you just installed the rom from a clean flash you won't lose app data and such.
3. Install PH98IMG.zip deposited by my rom on the card
4. Unlock if you are S-ON
OP updated 6/22 to future proof instructions.
Thank you.

If I'm on an ICS rom and getting the mainver errors, will this method still work?
This work for anyone? I got some sort of error when it tried to flash the PH portion in Bootloader.
EDIT: Are we supposed to fastboot OEM lock before this?
EDIT2: I guess so. Seems to be working now.

It was NOT because of the mainver as I did not receive a "mainver older" error and it was already updated to the one I have within the PH zip (I checked). I did in fact have to relock for the update to take.

You're a cool guy, and I don't wanna argue with you as it's just a miscommunication.
Yes, you are correct that you can run this ROM without flashing the PH98IMG.zip file (as stated in the OP.. you just skip the Bootloader portion of it).
..but as to your comment about "confusing" people.. this is what I said:
"This work for anyone? I got some sort of error when it tried to flash the PH portion in Bootloader.
EDIT: Are we supposed to fastboot OEM lock before this?
EDIT2: I guess so. Seems to be working now."
As we can see here, I was clearly referring to the PH flashing portion in the Bootloader. If anything, this should help anyone that didn't think to do so as it was not stated in the OP (not dissing the OP in any way, shape, or form as he contributes A LOT to the community and is probably my stupidity in not realizing anyway).
Also, the ROM does automatically reboot to Bootloader.. so I believe it's a good piece of information.
Take that for what its worth

If anyone that got it could reup it that would be great. I only used drop box becase that is the only site that I could think of that would take a file that big. About 20 people should have been able to get it. Hopefully someone who got it is willing to reupload in the mean time.

Question: Is it possible to flash just the firmware/radio update without using the entire rom? and will the existing roms work correctly with the new firmware/radio?
Yeah just pull the ph98img zip from the rom and flash via hboot as usual.

[Q] PH98...zip File for New OTA RUU

So I don't know why, but the RUU exe files just don't work for me. I've done everything but start fresh on my PC, but it's exam week in a computer modeling class and I just can't do that right now!
I've had nothing but problems since I attempted one of the 2-step processes out there for updating to the radios/kernels, so I really want to get through an RUU so I know I'm clean at my lowest levels.
I have found the PH98...zip files for the shipped version of the ROM, but thoes don't work due to my version of HBOOT (not mainver.. that never got updated).
Does anyone out there have one for the newest RUU? At this point, I think flashing that from HBOOT is the only option I have.
I have no idea how to extract it myself, so I can do that too if someone can tell me how!
Thanks for any help.

Oh yeah. Really, tried everything. It sees the phone, reads the current build, goes through the next screen or two, and then once it says "Rebooting to Bootloader" it either sits there for a couple minutes till it times out and errors or errors immediately. I cannot find any other posts of people having problems, so I'm really at a loss. Makes me worried about having more troubles once the official ICS build comes out... but I probably have a lot of time till then.
Thanks guys!
Tried this as well, and my phone is not seeing the file
Make sure you are naming the file correctly "PH98IMG. zip" the instructions provided give a different file name than want the Rezound uses.

I updated to the latest ota that verizon sent out. I didnt flash a rom, only perm rooted/unlocked...I relocked my phone tried the ruu exe many times didnt work..I done a backup of my nandroid but it took me back to the earlier firmware but still have the updated radio..So, I will relock it and place this on my sd card and try again..I was getting error 140 on the ruu exe
Here is the no-brainer fix for those that end up having Mainver issues, or maybe want to come back from an ICS ROM to GB and RUU and the normal methods don't work...
Go to www.scottsroms.com and hit the download section, look for Rezound and Stock Roms. Grab his boot image for the latest OTA.
Then download his "Cleanflash" utility and copy the boot.img file to that directory on your PC.
Run it and select option "2".
That restores the stock boot image and mainver right there. If you made a Nandroid of your system from before you went to ICS, boot into recovery and restore it. His tool will also install Amon Ra or CWM recovery, just like the boot image, download the one you want and copy that recovery.img to the cleanflash folder and run the tool.
I went from a completely hosed ICS install which would not allow RUU or Hbooting the PH98IMG.zip file... nothing worked, was contemplating replacing the phone, when I tried Scott's tool to push the stock boot image to the phone and then restored my Nandroid.
Worked 100% in under 5 minutes, the Nandroid Restore taking most of that time.
Hope this helps!

can someone PLEASE pull the OTA from their phone?

like the title says. should be a zip file located in /cache. hopefully someone will see this thread before it gets buried under all the "ota update problem" threads.
EDIT: ok, so i had a chance to download and take a look at the file. this is something that needs to be flashed in stock recovery. if you are already on an ICS leak, this will not work. if you are on GINGERBREAD WITH STOCK RECOVERY, LOCKED AND UNROOTED, you should be able to go into hboot>recovery and flash this. i cannot test it tho, since im already on the .3 leak

yes if you have ENG hboot your good to flash
Never mind delete
I have SHIP Hboot, but I'll flash the ENG Hboot then downgrade. Give me a few to get things done.
Flashing stock at the moment, don't see a need to re-lock my bootloader since others have reported being able to download and update without doing so, I just need the file, so the minute it finishes flashing I'll be checking for/downloading the update file, upload as soon as I have it.
Booting up now, min it's finished, I'll be downloading the file, just a few more
Downloading the update now.
I flashed back to stock an hr ago just to get the file as requested but it's seems like it ain't happening yet. I just cannot get the OTA to prompt for updates. Maybe it depends on the area or something.

[Q] Help with new firmware

I have a rooted Rezound running the OTA ICS. I also have Amon Ra recovery. The newest Firmware update keeps downloading. Once it does the phone shuts off and goes straight to Amon Ra which does not install new firmware. So I reboot the phone and the download process starts all over again. Is there any way to get this new firmware with having to factory reset? Thanks in advance!

Are you going to settings> software update> check new?
From 605.12 you should get a small OTA first then the big one after that one is done. I just did same procedure in the last week on my wife's phone.
Btw might want to be on WiFi if you aren't already for the download.
Having the same issue here as OP and been searching forums for days looking for help...
First, I'm on 605.13 already, stock ROM, rooted with Amon ra. I realize the steps I need to take but can't find any specifics.
Could someone please spell out the specifics of how to flash the stock recovery, and if I can use the 605.12 RUU to do this being on .13 already. I keep seeing others posting about just renaming a file to recovery.img and pushing using fastboot, but I'm not sure how to obtain the correct file.
Do you relock bootloader first or flash stock recovery first and the relock? BTW I'm s-on stil. Thanks in advance

I have tried your suggestions. It goes to download the small update and never downloads it. It says unable to download after about 3minutes.

For some apparent reason the 605.13 update downloaded this afternoon and the 605.14 updated. Its all set after a frustrating 2 weeks of digital torture. thanks to all that helped. I had to scour all these resources and forums to get this done but this is what worked for me. I relocked the bootloader then I used the 605.12 RRU.exe program. After about a day I checked for the updates and they downloaded and installed successfully.
Xander, since you just got this working, can you please confirm the process - I'm about to do this myself and want to verify the steps...
1) Reboot into hboot > fastboot and relock bootloader via fastboot oem lock
2) download 3.14.605.12 RUU.exe (I'm currently on 3.14.605.13)
3) Reboot phone into hboot > fastboot usb
4) run RUU.exe from PC
Is that it? Anything I'm missing here or am I on the right path?

U have step 1 and step 2 correct. Step 3 would be to connect the phone to the computer and run the 605.12 ruu.exe tool. After that u are now back to a stock phone. After the initial setup of adding your gmail account and contacts you can now go into system settings and check for update. As I stated before my phone would not download the update for some odd reason. I tried it a couple more times without success. Today on a whim I went to check for the update again and it started to download. After the small 6mb file was complete the next update for 605.14 downloaded without anny issues. Make sure you delete any zip files off your external SD card labeled ph98img.zip if u tried that method.
Step1 relock boot loader
Step2 run 3.14.605.12 ruu.exe
Step3 check for updates
Step4 unlock phone if you want to
I hope this helps anyone. Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks.. Got it! And I got both the 13 and 14 updates almost immediately afterwards. I appreciate the confirmation about the process...

AT&T 4.4.2 update solution

These are the steps i took to get the Kit Kat update.
I couldnt get the update OTA like most people and i was completely stock.
So if you are in a similar position these steps may help.
DO AT YOUR OWN RISK!
1. Unlock your bootloader and get root access. I did by following these instructions from this video.

2. Gain S-OFF by following these instructions from this video.

3. After you have completed these steps successfully head over to @clsA thread and download the AT&T 4.4.2 OTAPkg.zip and the
stock Recovery_Cingular_US_3.17.502.3.img. Link to the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2659374
4. Place the downloaded .zip on the root your phone storage.
5. follow the steps in @clsA post and flash Recovery_Cingular_US_3.17.502.3.img via fastboot.
6. Navigate to recovery from fastboot on your HTC ONE. If you see "Mount SDCard failed" ignore it. goto to phone storage and locate the update.zip and flash it.

So am I the only person who went into settings and Clicked AT&T update and got the 4.4.2 update that way. I have never had a phone in all my life tell me an update was ready. I always had to check manually about once or twice a week out of boredom. Did the same with my ONE last week and sure enough there was an update and it downloaded and installed fine.

i have been clicking the check for update link at least 10 times a day since the update was released and i didnt get it ota i had to do it manually
If you're stock, you should be able to get the update just by changing the date. I brought my phone back to stock (3.17.502.3) then just kept hitting Software Update. If it didn't update, advance the date and try again. After a few date changes, the update was offered.

Anyone know if there are issues with S-Off and rooting since the update? I am 100% stock, non rooted, never installed a rom. Its been stock since the day I got it. I planned on getting the AT&T update to 4.4.2, rooting, making an update then testing some roms.
I know with other phones the update screwed some things up so I didn't know if rooting/s-off were an issue since the update.
Thanks ll!
Edit:
nevermind...found it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2663122
So what exactly do we need to get OTA?
Stock recovery, android 4.3, locked bootloader?
I have all that, and still not finding an OTA update. Manually looking for the update, and I'm just not getting it.

Oh, I meant from at&t over the air. I feel like I'm missing something, so trying to find out what the ota requirements are.
I can't flash it yet, I only have a windows 8.1 computer with usb 3.0 ports. Fastboot doesn't work.

@chp recommend advancing your date and try and see if the update comes through. Try it a few times and see if it will work for you also

Tried that with no luck. Had to do a factory reset because I went to far, and my OTA check was in -300 hours.
You guys are forgetting that to be able to update the OTA, you need to have an ACTIVE at&t sim card inserted to your phone. I think this is the reason for all the confusion around since not everybody lives in the US
Downgrade to 4.3
OK, so I was able to upgrade but now I messed it up trying to patch default.xml. :crying:
I am trying to revert to the 4.3 with RRU but I get error 155.
I am S-Off, HBOOT 1.56.
I tried with bootloader re-locked, unlocked, locked. I tried with stock recovery and with ClockWM recovery both locked and unlocked.
I also tried to re-apply the patch with stock recover but it fails verification...
Any ideas how do I go back or fix this?
Thanks
Adrian

The BEST way to make sure that you can run the RUU, whether it be the ATT version, or the Dev Edition is to make sure you downgrade the HBOOT to 1.44. You will never see than error again. No problems at all. Why on Earth though would you want the ATT version, when you can Dev it, and take the 4.4.2 OTA with no carrier BS?

Thank you.
Actually that is what I did. After downgrading HBoot I was able to use the RRU.
Unfortunately I use my phone for work with Mobileiron and will flag it to IT if I'm rooted. I have tried a couple of workaround so but did not work very well. Every time I try to monkey with it IT starts getting emails every 30 min saying my device is not compliant and I am rooted.... So my best solution is to unlock boot loader and flash mods there. Which got me into this trouble....
I can't navigate to the recovery after I flashed Recovery_Cingular_US_3.17.502.3.img to install the OTA. I've tried going to recovery mode and then pressing Power + Vol. Up to no avail. Any help?
