USB Host / Canon Camera - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Hey all, first of all thanks for the site and anyone that clicks on this thread! Hopefully I can get an answer, I dont want my phone to be showed up by a galaxy s3!
I cannot for the life of me quite get USB host to work on this phone! I'm pretty new to ROM's/ Flashing ETC but I think I have a decent understanding of it....
I am S-Off
I currently have meanrom
after meanrom I flashed AwesomeSauce Kernel: (link omitted, idk if you guys like outside links)
And I am unable to get USB Host to work. Currently when I plug something in (my canon camera, thumb drive) it tells me Unable to charge device, power adapter blah blah. like its trying to charge off it.
Also the program "Usb host controller" which I have seen referenced a lot errors out when trying to find info about my devices USB host.
I have also looked at Komodo Kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1873824
but this requires a JB Mod (right? jb kernel jb mod?) and I haven't found a JB mod I like yet (but honestly, between the two, i'll give up sense)
Anyone care to help me take a step in the right direction! Thanks :highfive:

bamp

Heard it doesn't work stock, but also haven't heard of a rom that redelivers functionality. Good question.
Bump for interest.

Have you tried this app? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1588979
I know it works on both kernels. I've tested with flash drives and mice never a camera though. Also could it be your cable? I bought a really cheap one under a buck off amazon and a lot of the reviews on the cheap cable say they are flakey. I just use mine to test for functionality for the kernel.

I have not tried that app, i'll give it a shot in a little bit, I've been working on trying to get Paranoid Android flashed w/your Komodo Kernel but for some reason it wont boot.
I know its not the cable, as I have plugged the cable into my friends galaxy S3 and it connected immediatly

Unfortunatly this app didn't work, I restored my meanrom install, installed busybox (smart install) then installed the .apk, when I plug in a flash drive and click "mount" it says no drives found

Is that plugged directly into the host cable or plugged into a powered usb hub?

directly into the host cable. Does it require a powered hub?

I see. I'll have to pick up a powered hub tomorrow. I have tried a few things around the house (including an external HDD with its own power source) and nothing is working.

If the hdd powered isn't working then I don't think a hub will help

that was my thought as well. I have 2 USB host "diagnostic" programs and neither show USB Host mode enabled.
Do I need to flash a kernel in the same boot as a rom? (use TWRP to flash rom, and queue the kernel zip as well)? I'm quite at a loss. Perhaps if I can get paranoid android with komodo working i'll do better in that.

Any way for usb host with otg cable?

My otg cable came today from hongkong for my Uk GS2 but im going to sale my GS2 but I wanna use USB host mode on my Amaze do we have a hack or rom or kernel with host built in yet? If not is there one in the works and what are we waiting on for it to work?

I'm also very interested on knowing this.. If not now, maybe in the future with S-off and some trickier roms?
Or is it just plain impossible? (I hope not)

What's wrong with the rest of the keys on your keyboard?
I'm removing your posts. That's four I just deleted.
I know it has to be built in to the kernel. And seeing as we currently only have one person doing kernel work, and doing it blind, it may be a while. But I would love to see that ability as well.

Flash drives and android? Does it work?

So Im about to order nexus7, but the storage capacity bothers me a bit. Would it be possible to use this cable for example: (it doesnt let me post a link but... search "SANOXY USB 2.0 Female to Micro USB Male OTG(On-The-Go) Cable Adapter" on AMAZON.com)
to plug my usb flash drive into nexus7 or any other android device with micro usb. Would it work? is there any file explorer that could detect that drive and work with it normaly?
I think it would be a perfect solution for that limited storage.

Yes it will work. Its called USB OTG. You will however need to be rooted and install an app from the market (can't remember what its called). There's a really good guide on it in the nexus 7 section.

Yeah not all devices support the feature that's why you have to root the nexus. If it didn't work at all what would be the reason for the USB to micro USB wire? Anyways I hear what your saying

[Q] Kernel to enable USB OTG on Rezound

I am pretty new to all of this, so I apologize ahead of time if this is posted elsewhere (though I didn't see it).
I was wondering if there is a kernel floating around that enables USB OTG on the rezound. I am running Newts One xxx with s-off, but will definitely flash to a different ROM if needed.
Thanks so much for any info.

I am actually running that kernel with Newts One xxx. It works great but I still don't have usb otg host capabilities. I have also tried the overclock v1.4.0 and same thing. Phone works fine but no usb host. Am I don't something wrong?
Did you try using a powered USB hub. On Sebastianfm's thread for the Sensation, he says that you need power, because the sensation won't provide power. I've tried getting this to work as well with no luck, but I don't have a USB hub to try.

Yep, it requires a power hub because the micro output was never designed for OTG USB.

Ok, got the power hub and still no go. I have all the hardware I need and the supporting kernel. So you maybe need a certain Rom to utilize it?

OTG also requires a rom with it enabled.

Are there any roms available or in the works with otg at this time? I see the kernels have it, but not in the change logs of the roms. Sense or aosp it doesn't matter at this point.

[Q] Xbox 360 controller?

I would really like to get my wired 360 controller working via an OTG cable (I'm using a supported kernel) however I haven't found a way as of yet. Has anyone done this successfully on this device? Also I've gotten a reccomendation from the kernel dev to try a powered USB hub, but I'm not keen on buying one if it won't help at all... Anyone?

Thanks for the advice, however I've already seen that article and followed it to a T (not much to do). As I plug in the unit initially I get a single flash on the controller and then it goes blank. Isn't recognized by my emulators OR the USB/BT joycenter app. Again, I think I may need more power to the controller (powered hub)...

Got my powered hub today....no luck : / So I will just assume non bluetooth gamepads will not work with this device. O well!
Starting to get antsy about this again.... Thinking about posting a bounty for a method to get this working. Anyone had success as of yet?
I thought that meanbean has this working? Try it on that ROM, or search that specific thread. I remember there being discussion in that thread about this...

Yeah, that was with the elemental x kernel which has the 360 controller support. It had the module installed but it still never worked. Regardless of that it is a great ROM, however I have since moved on to Sharkie ROM.

I'm gonna ask the obvious question here: Are you plugging your phone directly into a USB port i.e. not through a hub? Preferably one in the back of the motherboard. Highly suggest that it be one that was originally meant for your keyboard/mouse. On my motherboard, I find that cell phones work best for adb/fastboot when plugged into a "pink" USB port as opposed to a blue USB3.0 or normal USB2.0
EDIT: Oh, you're on a laptop. I got nothin' then, sorry mate. I'm going to leave my post up just in case some one else wanders in here.

Not fastboot as in the command line interface.
Fast Boot under Power Management inside Android OS--it basically puts the phone into superdeep hibernate mode instead of turning it off when you push the Power Off button.
Oh okay he did say fastboot as in the command interface.

Most likely the usb3 drivers. I think there are some Intel drivers posted somewhere that will work.
