I have the i9100 that I am using on AT&T in the US and I am currently using the LPQ baseband, but have used XXKI3 and KI4 as well. Anyone in the US have any preference or one that has worked best for you on AT&T?

Switched back to the XXKI3 baseband and I seem to have better reception for data and voice.
Trying the XXKPA from Veyka
KL1
I'm on baseband KI3. Works fine.
LPQ works best for me.
I keep trying the ICS modems and always have returned to KI3. It has issues, but definitely is better for me in the North suburbs of Chicago than anything else so far.
In my experience, KL1 is the best performing modem (in the Houston, TX area at least). My speeds are around 6-8 Mbps down/1-3 Mbps up depending upon the time of day. Browsing, the Play Store, and several news apps are much more responsive on KL1. To be fair, I haven't tried KI3, though. (Flashed KI4 - see update below)
I tried LPQ on ICS modded ROMs and was lucky to get 1 Mbps/150 Kbps speeds. Likewise, all other Internet-based apps were slllloooooowwww (think original Blackberry Pearl and 8300 devices). I must have tried 20 different APN configurations, but they were all the same.
Long story, short - in the Houston, TX area, KL1 or KI4 both seem to work well as compared to LPQ.
[UPDATE] - Since I was just sitting here browsing XDA, I figured I would try KI4. It's a little better than KL1, especially with the upload. Five tests on KL1 at 3:00 pm CDT returned an average of 5.8 Mbps down/1.2 Mbps up. KI4 gave me an average of 5.9 Mbps down/1.6 Mbps up. Internet-based apps felt the same on either KL1 or KI4. Ping times also were the same at 80ish ms.

Located in South-central PA here and have been testing the hell out of KI4 and KL1 and the results are amazing, they are the 2 best modems to use in my opinion for my area, I travel to Philly and Jersey a lot and have never had one drop signal in the past 4 weeks I've had these two radios on my phone. 2 weeks a piece and have nary noticed a bit of difference except that KL1 gives me slightly better battery life.

Excellent - I am using XXLPR right now and seem to be getting great battery and speeds
I am using KI3 and getting good speeds here in California. I also tried KH3 and LPS and LP9 and i still get better speeds w KH3 but LPS and LP9 are not bad.
I am using KP8 right now after trying LPQ and NELP3... Both of those had great speeds but terrible battery consumption

Any modem can be used regardless of the Rom version.
Thanks to SAMSUNG, there is no RIL packeges for MODEMS to suite with ROM like HTC devices.
are we talking about XXKL1 ? because there is a few other modems that end in KL1. Thank you.
Anyone find a good ICS modem to use with AT&T yet? I ask because it doesn't seem possible to use a GB RIL with an ICS ROM so I'd have to upgrade to an ICS modem to get the RIL and baseband to match.

That doesn't exactly help with finding a modem though.
Anyways, I'm trying out BVLP7 with a matching BVLP7 RIL and so far it's working better than XXKL1.

Code:
- Latest UCLE2 Modem
- Modified ICS Blaze Radio
- Removed unnecessary files
- Increased 4g speeds on AWS

1) T-mobile Blaze ICS Radio: http://minus.com/mWc0nIPPa/
Tested on AOKP and CM9 RC5. 6-7mbps down 2mbps up.
Not tested on samsung UCLE2 leak but it should work since its based off the UCLE2 modem.
2) Kid based ICS radio coming
3) UVLK1 based ICS radio coming
Telus? Other T-mobile based roms let me know and I will try to port. Just a little busy these days but I hope to update it along with new modems that are released for the Note.

im getting good speeds (3-5d 1-2u) with jeets new ics blaze modem 5/28
Ill try yours 5/29 and report later.
I was using one of the GSII radios for ICS before on OnlyOne and CM9 with poor results. I was frustrated with constant notifications of data service loss and an inability to pick up EDGE/3G/HSPA+ after leaving an area with no reception. That issue could only be fixed with a restart. Additionally, speed tests were irrelevant due to ridiculous latency issues, but I never got anything above 1-2mbps.
I flashed your radio this morning and could not be happier. My downtown San Francisco speed tests were seeing 80-150ms latency with 8mbps down and 1.5mbps up. Thank you for saving my Note!

I think there are only ICS modems right now. When and if JB is official then we may see some modems.

There are yet to be any JellyBean modems, as far as i know. You could try to flash an ICS Modem (not sure if it would brick phone or not). Best thing to do is just wait!
A modem is not dependent on the android version. There is no such thing as an ICS or GB or JB modem. Flash any you want.

If that is the case, how do I figure out what modem a ROM is using? While using xXX I got great coverage. On new liquid, not as good it seems.
So I could find out and flash over with the XXX modem and be happy? Or are there other considerations?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Just download a few modems to your sd card and flash one, let it settle on for several hours, and decide if you keep it or dump it. Then move on to the next candidate. Eventually you will find the modem that gives best results for your area. I like the LF6 modem.
I've tried various roms, and none of them would give me LTE no matter which modem I used. Best I could do is 4G at non-LTE speeds. I really like JB, but have gone back to stock ICS on my Rogers Note, so that I can enjoy the LTE capabilities of my Note (after all it aint an iphone 5!) LOL Probably will have LTE in some of the roms soon enough, either that of official JB!

You can get LTE w/ Rogers for any of the ROM's posted, whether they are TW based, CM9/CM10/AOSP/AOKP.
Just requires some tweaking.
If you need help, let me know.
<--Rogers in Toronto - Currently on Paranoid JB ROM, my LTE speeds are between 25-42MB depending on where I am.

4G is LTE. Since the modem is the same for JB, the speed difference you're seeing is either an incorrect APN or simple Placebo.
For myself, I know I need to set a different APN to get full speeds on LTE.

Hopefully you are judging LTE speeds on your phone using something like the speedtest site or app and NOT the little icon that appears in your notification area.
On the liquid jellybean rom the 4g icon IS LTE speed as verified by the above mentioned app. You should flash the Rogers modem for best results.
I am with Bell mobility and use the MUGLF4 modem with liquid jb rom. My speeds in an LTE area in the GTA average about 25 mbps down and about 12mpbs up although I once hit the theoretical limit of 75mpbs in the Dufferin and Major Mackenzie area. I think they must have been doing some testing that day. . I haven't been up there since.
Around Yonge and Steele's, I get 25mbps every day. My phone shows the 4g icon...
I never get LTE because it isn't available in my region.

Actually this isn't entirely true. I have an AT&T Note as well that is unlocked and running on T-Mobile service, but am having trouble getting 4G to work with some of the ROMS. So far from my experience, any Note ROM that has UCLF6 base will not work when you flash the T-Mobile Blaze modem. These ROMS will give you data access, but only Edge.
Bigfau's latest Black Star XI ROM release will work with the Blaze modem, as well as ptmr3's Padawan V7 ROM. In fact right after I flashed Padawan V7 the data kicked on and was varying from 3g to H+, so flashing the Blaze modem wasn't even needed.

V7 of Padawan doesn't come with a modem included. It retained your previous modem which is why it immediately grabbed your data connection.
I personally have had a solid data connection with every ROM I've tried. I still stick with Padawan as it is behind smooth and extremely fast.

Why would you contradict me and give out incorrect nonsense? For seven months t-mobile users have had 4g using all versions of stock and custom Roms using the Blaze 4g and other galaxy modems. Padawan Roms are fairly recent. I am being gentle because you only contributed 23 times in more than two years.

This thread covers the topic from last March.
The issue is using the phone on a network it wasn't designed for. When you do that you get unreliable results.

I had flashed Padawan V5.1 before flashing V7 and V5.1 comes with UCLF6 modem. Got nothing more than Edge speeds. Then proceeded to flash Blaze modem(while still on V5.1), only to have no signal at all. Tried fixing permissions and still nothing. Then flashed V7 which like you said retained the Blaze modem and instantly got good data connection. Sorry for not fully explaining. So it seems ROMS based off UCLF6 don't play well with the flashing of Blaze modem IN MY EXPERIENCE.

There's no incorrect nonsense being given here. I simple posted my results about the matter at hand in hopes of helping out a fellow Note user who's pretty much in the same boat as I. Maybe I didn't make my whole situation abundantly clear like i did above, but doesn't give you right to bash me. Never said that YOU were completely wrong now did I? What's all this "being gentle" BS? You think you're better than me because you contribute more than me or something? All the time I spend on this forum is READING/LEARNING and using the search button to solve any problems that I encounter. I avoid posting, unless I truly think that I can help someone out, so I don't have to deal with snippy remarks from people like you.
Looks like my post wasn't complete nonsense, because it seems to have helped the OP out and even got me a :good:THANKS.
