I have a Sasktel Galaxy S II that I upgraded to ICS a while ago and have regretted doing so ever since. Battery life is poor, random glitches, wifi doesn't work properly... list goes on.
I can not for the life of me find the stock gingerbread rom so that I can push it from odin. sammobile only has the latest ics rom. Anyone know where I can find the stock rom? My baseband is I9100MUGLD3.
Or do custom roms have a chance of fixing the problems I am experiencing?

Aux contraire, there are GB firmwares in sammobile.com, you can just download them and flash them directly via odin..
do not forget to do the following steps:
- Boot to CWM recovery
- wipe cache partition
- wipe dalvik cache (under advanced)
- fix permissions (under advanced)
- reboot system now
I went back and searched some more.
Sammobile only lists the ICS rom under sasktel. But if you click on the more general canada drop down it lists 2.3.6 as well for my baseband.
Got it downloaded, will flash soon. I will return if I have anymore issues. Thanks!

I have the following Galaxy s2:
PDA: XXKH3| Modem/phone: XXKH3| CSC: OXAKH3
Rooted and Siyah Kernel.
I was wondering if there is a way to get ICS update through Samsung Kies (when I plug the phone in it keeps telling me it's up to date)?
I want to keep all my setting and data.
I know it's possible to do it through Odin but all my apps and data will be erased
If there is no way to update using Kies what is the best/latest stock ICS firmware available now? Which one will get the latest updates first?
you can backup your apps and data using Titanium backup and flash a Custom ICS rom from CWM
latest stock is XWLP9 and reported very stable...you can get it from here Rooted and CWM flashable : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1292825
don't really want to keep backing up the app every time there is an update. I just want to go back to stock...

You answered it your self, custom ROM......
Stock is buggy. Dxlp9 is good
I kind of want to go completely stock as I mentioned so when new version of Android comes out I can just update using Kies. Don't really want to deal with all backup and restores.
FYI, there is no guarantee a Kies update won't screw up either though. Always a good idea to back up before an upgrade, be it a Kies update, or an Odin flash. And if you're going from stock to stock with an Odin flash, that won't wipe your phone anyways. (still a good idea to wipe anyways, though...)
OK, I'm probably gonna sound like the biggest noob ever... but here it goes:
I never made a nandroid backup when I flashed my first rom and I have been flashing different ones since I flashed my first one. About a week ago, I flashed AOKP Milestone 5 ICS Rom. It was running PERFECT until today. I opened the Youtube app and while I was watching a video, the Tab just froze and rebooted. This resulted in a bootloop. I don't have any other roms on the internal memory and it didn't work when I tried reflashing the rom. Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this?
Again, sorry for being so stupid and thanks in advance.
Did you wipe data and dalvik cache? Other than that, you can download the stock rom from www.sammobile.com and flash it with odin.

I did wipe but I couldn't find the stock rom from the website, could you give me the direct link to the website?
Here is the link: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/ . type P7500 and you should get a list with different regions and their latest updates.
This happened to me too. I tried flashing different ROMs as well as flashed CWM again, but only flashign a stock ROM works. Something about a damaged bln.

OK, I have downloaded the rom, now how do I flash it onto the device? My guess is with Odin.

Correct. Unzip it first, so you have a .tar file. Then put it in PDA field in odin and have fun!

Is it possible to install/flash a JB custom ROM (based on latest official stock) over my current Stock ICS 4.0.4 ROM without problems & have all my previous data (apps, features, contacts, settings..) back as it is ????

No, you need to wait for your region. You can of course flash one of the releases but you may get problems and end up having to wipe the phone to solve them.
You can get everything back except for your settings. You'll have to do the dance but everything else is recoverable.

I always find it best to wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik at a minum but before that you could always backup your apks and data using titanium backup or Mybackup root
flashed the swedish JB stock rom over the UK 4.04 stock rom earlier today. Doesnt seem to have given me any issues so far and all my settings have remained. Ill full wipe if i start getting any problems but so far everythings fine

I have an OTA update of about 25 mb but, it gets stuck at 25% & ultimately fails after reboot.. Tried either stock recovery or unrooted condition but, no joy.. Should I have both conditions at the same time or is something else the culprit. ?? Note that, I have installed Vertumus JB Domination theme which might've modified the build.prop...
Ok, I was using the official ICS rom and out of nowhere I got the Wifi bug, my wifi was unable to turn on.
So I already tried to fix:
1) Unlocking the bootloader
2) Installing the CMW recovery
3) Installing the xICS Hybrid ROM rom (wiping everything)
And the bug is there even on a wiped new rom.
Still not working.
Why??? Isn't there any fix for it? Even changing roms!
Please help!
I'm going back to GB, I bought this phone for the ICS update, I still cannot believe that I will going back because of this bug.
Really.
reflash the official ics ftf
it may help i guess

I flashed the ICS rom again, let's see when the bug will appear.
Some Xperia models are experiencing problems with ICS and wifi...
there's an official update said to be rolling out in a few weeks wich is rumoured to fix several issues

(more proof in the Xperia update threads... )
That's amazing news.
Can you tell me the link for the update thread?
Thanks
Hallo everyone!
So since a week ago i'm a proud owner of Samsung Galaxy S2 (yay!).
It had Android 2.3.5 at the beginning so 2 days ago i've updated it to ICS (4.0.3). I've updated it via ODIN (since it couldn't find updates via KIES or by air) with a official ROM (if that's what it's called) from samfirmware.
Since then my phone heats up a lot more compared to 2.3.5 , i don't know how's that possible but i haven't installed any new apps or used the phone differently since the update. I know it's normal to heat up when playing games but even if i'm browsing the web it heats up a lot. I haven't this problem with 2.3.5
Any suggestions?
Go back to 2.3.5 and wait for JB.Or try custom rom.

So it's a common issue?
Hmm.. This is weird.. I'm having the same issue, but I'm having it with JellyBean ROMs.
For ICS the combination that works for me best is Cyanogenmod 9.1 and Siyah Kernel. If that still heats up, you might want to try some different modem and check out if any of them works for you. I think the stock XXKH3 modem helps.

As you might red above i'm a total newb to Android world atm , i just learned how to flash few days ago, i'm not going to mess with new modems etc. (for now). Do you guys think that if i upgrade to that leaked 4.1.2 , that might fix the problem? Also i didn't do factory reset after the upgrade to 4.0.3 because some other user from other forum told me that if i install the official 4.0.3 rom from Samsung - there's no need to do factory reset.
I would have done a factory reset, but thats just me.ICS was overheating my wifes phone, but it was the 4.0.4 thats worst.
If you are flashing modems, you should root first and backup your efs folder......and make a nand backup.

As i mentioned i won't be flashing modems and such. What would you suggest me to do from that point (aside from downgrading)?
You can only downgrade to GB.I detest ICS(rootbox was ok),so I went back to GB.
But now I use vanilla rootbox(JB) with dorimanx kernel.
Only problem Ive seen with this so far is the bloody volumes far too loud when I press keys(had to switch it off).
Anyway, whatever you do make sure you get rooted and backup your efs folder.
So i just upgraded to JB and we'll see how's it going.

Why? I don't want to...
UPDATE: So i've upgraded to 4.1.2 (JellyBean) , haven't installed any apps and for about 10 min. of browsing the web it jumped from 31°C to 37°C. What should be the average temperature of SGSII while using it (not playing games)?
