Hey guys, if you haven't guessed, I have an Evo 3D (Evo V 4G, details, details) and I've always used the extended battery from Zlaza. That worked wonderfully. Now the case for it broke and I have to get a new case or fix it. So I'm stuck on stock battery.
EDIT: For the record, I did use the regular battery for roughly two and a half weeks before jumping onboard the extended battery ship.
The Problem:
Stock battery (when I used it) never drained this rapidly. 30 Percent in two hours. I'm not streaming audio, listening to videos checking email or even browsing the web, I'm just listening to music on Poweramp. Occasionally I checked into XDA with it.
I'm on Harmonia (the, what stock should've been ROM for Virgin Mobile) using Buttered Toast Kernel clocked at stock using conservative governor. Any ideas why this might be happening? Is this normal? Have I been sucked out of the realm of normal due to having an ultra large 3460mAh battery? Keep in mind I have wiped battery stats and let it die (really easy now) then charged it up again before using it.
Any explanation would be great.
More in depth stats.
https://www.box.com/s/uz9j4brraeep88mxth9m
And this one was while I was flashing a ROM and jumping in and out of recovery earlier today...

A few thoughts:
1. Maybe the battery has gone bad (or a little bad) since you had it unused in the drawer for so long.
2. I lose quite a bit of battery every reboot.
3. I only get about 3 or so hours of screen on time when using stock battery
That's absolutely mind blowing. Nonetheless, thank you.

30% drain while listening to music is not out of the ordinary.
You could try changing your kernel and undervolting. Might help out but be sure to know what you are doing.
Also battery may be bad.

And undervolting is always an option, I figured using stock clock and conservative governor (along with set CPU profiles) would be enough. I may consider doing that, thanks.
Im assuming its your battery. On my evo battery life fluctuates alot. If i use it alot, i tend to get about 6-7 hours daily. If i hardly use it, it can go above 1 day. Right now im at a day and 12 hours. lol but have hardly used it
---------- Post added at 02:23 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:18 AM ----------
I also think maybe you need to charge and let it discharge a couple of times since you havnt used it in a while. This should cycle it and should help the battery retain some more charge.
Hmm, that's something else that I didn't consider. I figured it would be fine because I'd used it in the past... Recalibration it is then.

EDIT: By the way, what ROM?
Viper 3D r192 but the newest r202 has gps issues. i have also changed my kernel to (Bacillus anthracis) i dont think im allowed to say the actual name
Hahaha, thanks. I'll have to try it out.
Sent from my PARANOID 3VO
Just an observation, I bought 3 extra batteries with a wall charger, my original HTC battery is now a year old and there's a noticeable difference in battery longevity, my after market batteries last 30-50 % longer, so after 1 year it's time for a new battery
(Don't ask me for help as I couldn't care if your phone explodes, eh! )
That's always a possibility... I'm on Virgin Mobile and I got one of the Sprint Evo 3D instead of the Virgin Mobile ones... There's always the possibility that it had been lying around in a box for a year or so. Something else to consider I suppose.

Batteries normally will lose the ability of retaining a full charge after many discharge and charge cycles, lithium ion batteries are prone to this as any rechargeable battery

This is probably your problem.
Lithium Ion batteries die slowly on the shelf too. They recommend you store them at 40% if they won't be in use, but there's no perfect way of storing a battery to prevent it from going bad.
However, charging it to 100% and leaving it is apparently really bad.
Maybe you did that before switching to the bigger battery?
Ahhh yeah... that's kind of exactly what I did.

Ive been using 1800s lately..2 of them that i charge with an external charger that came with them. Usually getting around 18 hrs at normal/heavy use. Considering i was lucky if i ever made it 12 hrs on the stock 1500, it was a good deal.
So both 1800s were dead and the plug in charger wasnt charging for some reason...phone kept restarting.. so i popped in the stock as a last resort and it made it 1 day 13 hrs and might have kept going if i hadnt taken it out at 4%. Really??
What changed it? I had charged it on the external charger and itd been sitting unused for a few weeks. Or does the phone adjust to longer cycle times when using extended batteries?
Ill have repeat the experiment and see if i get the same results.

Anyway, it may be a calibration issue but regardless how are you getting your battery to last so long? Do you not use your phone heavily?

Some higher power decided you deserved an ungodly amount of battery life considering two 1800's broke on you
I've no idea as to why this would happen. You got quite lucky my freind!
Just to clarify for future reference, battery calibration has never been and never will be relevant in accurate battery readings. It tracks what hardware and software on the phone have used the battery, nothing more.
Anyway, I don't have an answer for you. The fact that you got significantly less battery from your 1800's as opposed to your recent stock battery experience simply doesn't make sense. Could you have been using one of your 1800's and not realized it? I know that sounds silly, but that drastic improvement from a considerably weaker battery is illogical. I think you're missing something.
I could be wrong though, and for your sake I hope I am. I hate the stock battery. It's horrendous. Trident 3800mah ftw!
I am a heavy user most days. I turn the data off most nights and mostly just use wifi at home. I didnt play as many vids or any games that day but none of that matters most of the time. Light or heavy use and i usually get crappy battery life. The 1800s being the exception. Not broke...i just hadnt had time to charge them..the external charger is very slow..im talking 6 or more hrs for a full charge. So honestly no idea how my stock battery outlasted my 1800s... im going to put it on the external charger and try it again next battery change. Couldve been a fluke.

It was definitely the 1500... the batteries look different and the 1500 actually counts down accurately...was nice having that again for a change. The 1800s i have seem more for the atrix than the x2 or theyr from a batch that just dont report accurately. It goes from 99 down to 1% within the first few hrs and then just stays at 1% for the majority of the charge. So i never know when its going to shut off on me.
The 1500 is charging..so ill give it another go whenever the 1800 thats in now dies.

Mine has done that also, more than once. Doesn't seem to effect anything though. Seems to go away after a battery pull. Weird.
It mustve been a fluke. Used the 1500 again and got maybe 16 hrs. Thats still longer than what i usually got out of it when it was my daily. Letting it die completely and then using the external charger does seem to extend the charge cycle a bit..but thats nothing new.

That big drop off at the end always happens to me when I upload a big video to dropbox or I sync my T-backup to dropbox.
I don't have Wifi at home.
I have seen it mentioned in here a couple times now about "letting the battery die completely" don't you all realize how HORRIBLE that is for the life of a Li-on battery?! these batteries were DESIGNED to last longer and stay "healthier" when you plug in when it gets down low on charge (say 15-5% with 5% pushing it cuz its gonna shut off real soon) tho I do understand it's difficult to gauge when to plug in using a 1800mah(aka Bh6x battery) due to inaccurate readings by the system (it's best to use a widget that will show in real time the voltage left and when it gets low throw it in charger).
ALL these battery "calibration" apps& techniques have been lieing, they almost all day to drain battery completely when that's just a bad idea (not to mention "calibration" isn't actually necessary IMO anyways)
sorry, didn't mean to get off topic...

I'm thinking of making a script to reset my battery stats every morning when my phone is at 100%. I understand most of you won't believe this will extend battery life, but it has worked for me time and time again. After a couple days my overall battery life appears to shorten until the stats are reset. I believe this is because it resets the voltage threshold where the phone says to turn itself off. This is controlled by software because if the lithium ion battery gets too low then it is unable to recharge itself and will be damaged.
I am seeking advice on making a script. Can this be done with an app?

didnt want ya thinking i was making stuff up, so here ya go. just for reference, shes an android framework engineer. if you dont believe what she says, well then, i dont know what to tell ya
Dianne Hackborn - 6:42 PM - Public Today's myth debunking:
"The battery indicator in the status/notification bar is a reflection of the batterystats.bin file in the data/system/directory."
No, it does not.
This file is used to maintain, across reboots, low-level data about the kinds of operations the device and your apps are doing between battery changes. That is, it is solely used to compute the blame for battery usage shown in the "Battery Use" UI in settings.
That is, it has deeply significant things like "app X held a wake lock for 2 minutes" and "the screen was on at 60% brightness for 10 minutes."
It has no impact on the current battery level shown to you.
It has no impact on your battery life.
Deleting it is not going to do anything to make your more device more fantastic and wonderful... well, unless you have some deep hatred for seeing anything shown in the battery usage UI. And anyway, it is reset every time you unplug from power with a relatively full charge (thus why the battery usage UI data resets at that point), so this would be a much easier way to make it for away.

I get it. Some/most don't believe that wiping battery stats extends your battery life. I really do understand that it makes no sense. The only thing I know is that on the days that I wipe my battery stats, the battery lasts longer and I can be on my phone more without terrible battery drain.
I don't care why this happens or gives me the perception of it happening. I will happily be wrong and ignorant and enjoy my phone more. I just want to figure out how to make a script that resets when I hit 100% in the morning after charging.
How can I make a script that is either triggered by time or battery percent? I looked into Init.d, but that seems to only work on startup.
Thanks for the responses.

To also help with Battery Life you can do these steps exactly: 1) Turn your device ON and Charge the device for 8 hours or more 2) Unplug the device and Turn the phone OFF and charge for 1 hour 3) Unplug the device Turn ON wait 2 minutes and Turn OFF and charge for another hour Your battery life should almost double, we have tested this on our devices and other agents have seen a major difference as well.

it doesn't matter if affects to the battery or not, you will trade your phone for another new one before the battery gets damaged
The only issue is that the phone will heat up like crazy so...
If you're overclocked or it's a very hot day, please avoid doing this, otherwise you may damage your phone.

Using while charging overheats the battery and the mobile itself.
Heat is the biggest enemy of batteries (wrt. longetivity), so yes it does reduce battery life. Having said that, most of us upgrade phones in less than 2 years, so it wouldn't be as much of a problem.
But overheating is not good for rest of the phone hardware.

I really doubt that. If the phone or battery were overheating, you wouldn't be able to touch it.
Maybe it reduces battery life, but that can't be much, since the battery gets hot whether it's being charged or not.

I've done a few searches on the subject and it seems some people have the overheating issue, but not many (or its not discussed anymore).
I've had the Rezound for about a week now. It was a certified like new warranty replacement for my Thunderbolt. I have the extended battery.
I can't use the phone for more than 10-15 (sometimes more) minutes without it overheating (50° + C / 120° + F). This is normally just phone calls or twitter/internet browsing. If I play any game it's overheating every time and quickly. I'm rooted, unlocked, on just the stock ROM.
I'm curious if this is a common issue or if I possibly was provided a defective device. Would a custom ROM help?
Any insight would be much appreciated!

Is it gb or ics?
Had to return my first unit because its USB and/or charging system fried seemingly; it got to 130+ running heavy gaming and went 140+ overnight once on charger shortly before then.
Return it. My current unit tends to heat fast, but I run it hard too. But it only gets to 110-120 under heavy use, not running higher than 120 easily by any means. It is rather good at staying at that threshold or lower.

I know this is slightly a different question. My issue is after you flash a new rom it seems the % is not entirely accurate. It will act fine for a while and then when u get to like less then 10% it drops dramatically like it wasnt reading it correctly or just like today I turned the phone off and did a reboot at 96% and when it powered on it was at 92% which is quite a bit of time on the note 2.
How do you get your battery reading accurate again after you have flashed a new rom? This has happened with my Bionic in the past as well. Thanks.

100-90% can vary depending on when you take it off of the charger. Basically, once the battery hits 100% on the charger, it will start slowly discharging itself to avoid damage. Once it get below a certain threshold, it will charge back up to capacity again.
Regarding rebooting, that process is fairly system intensive and it is natural to lose some battery life. In addition, prior to the reboot the OS is calculating a rough estimate of the percentage left partially based on previous use. So for example, if your phone was in deep sleep for hours, then you reboot where the CPU ramps up significantly, the percentage will alter to more accurately reflect the charge left in the battery.
In short, there is never a need to "calibrate" a battery, the OS will sort it out itself even after flashing different ROMs and it can take a couple days for kernels to settle.
