I rooted this tablet last Christmas with the method that gave it the version of 9.99 (or something like that). Well last night I was using the browser and the battery was getting low. So when I plugged it in it started boot looping over and over again. So after so many boot loops the Nook reinstalled the original settings and OS just like day one. So now I lost root. I updated the sign in section so I can us the Nook again and plugged it in again, the boot loop starts up agin. I did take out the sd card and nothing changes. But my biggest concern is that I can't charge this thing to give me the chance to reroot. What do you think my next steps are? Thanks.

I had the same problem so I had to get a replacement nook from Barnes and noble. It should be a hardware problem. Have you tried a different USB cable or ac adapter

I did try a different cord and the actual part that plugs into the wall with the same results. Do I need to do anything to make sure they cant tell I rooted the Nook? I have a different sd card in there now.

If you can't find a way to charge the device I don't think Barnes and noble will have any luck either. I think you are okay for a replacement nook. Just call the nook support and they'll authorize it for you.

Went to the BN store and they swapped it out with no problems.
I have had similar problem. If plug in Nook Charger get boot loop. but if I plug in normal usb, I get power off but it charges.
I have CM10 on it so did not want to bring it in. I may do so now.
I bought mine at target would I have to go there or can go direct to B&N? I know at target I'm going to get little chance of getting someone that knows anything about the nook.

Greetings everyone. Reader for a while, but this is my first post, and unfortunately it's because I'm quite sure I should be preparing a burial plot for my phone unless someone can help.
Here's the situation:
I installed the Cyanogen Mod beta on my Vibrant and it was pretty cool, but I couldn't get passed the gps and video recording (I was warned, I know, but I wanted to try it anyway). This was not the first rom I had flashed, and was familiar with CWM and ODIN, so this was not a problem for me. I wanted to have something working so I decided to go back to the DeOdexed JL5 rom, which I was running before, so I went into ODIN to restore back to stock before flashing, and it hung up after clicking repartition. I pulled the battery on my phone, and when I went to put it into Download mode again, it wouldn't go into it. Hell, it wouldn't do anything.
How totally screwed am I?
the phone won't turn on?
try plugging first the usb then hold the volume buttons then put back the battery.
That would put it in Download mode. It won't go into that.
you can't put it into download mode?
Nope... =/

Yeah. Always did before I tried putting it in download mode out of some (probably irrational) fear that they would get wiped as well
There have been a handful of others recently who have had their vibrants in the state where they aren't booting, aren't even showing a charging icon when plugged in. Persistence is the key. The steps posted by iynfynity do work, even from your current state, according to the individuals who have found themselves in the same state lately, no power, phone doesn't respond to anything. You can find these posts around these forums here at xda. Keep trying, if you get frustrated, walk away for a little bit and try again later.
-Remove battery and all cards, have odin open, files loaded and ready to go.
-Plug in usb, holding both volume, pop the battery in
Again, persistence is the key, and a little patience doesn't hurt either.
I can vouch for that... I always used the 3 button combo and had this happen. I tried everything. I even have a replacement sitting here still in the box not opened. I tried 1 more time with just pulling the battery sim and sd card out, plugging in the usb to pc, held down just the volume buttons, plugged in usb to phone, put the battery in and right to download mode.
I'm keeping my old phone and sending the replacement back..This one just won't die... : )
Thank you, you lovely gentlemen. Persistence and patience was key. I'd pretty much given up all hope on it once I plugged it in and it wouldn't even pop up with the battery charge indicator.
I wish I was more patient because I already bought a Captivate, rooted, unlocked, ROMed it. Oh well at least now I have a backup phone.
Glad you got it back up at least. Hopefully your captivate wont start shutting itself off when your battery gets below 85%, as many others are plagued with, if it does though, you have your backup.

Hi there, I just got my Transformer Prime today and everything went well until it asked me if I wanted to install the newest ICS update. Now, you guys must be thinking that you've seen this before, but I'm not so sure. I have (after several hours of googling) not seen or read about anyone who has encountered the exact, same problem that I have. That kinda worries me =/ Anyway, i think it might be related to the problems people seem to be having with the boot sequence, since it freezes during booting. The way that my copy differs is that it doesnt get as far in the booting sequence as other prime's I've seen with similar problems. You can see in the ATTACHED PICTURE that it freezes before the loading gear screen pops up. Almost as if it freezes during BIOS startup (When the "Inspiring innovation, persistent perfection screen is showing).
I have read that letting the battery drain completely out solves the "Loading Gear Freeze" crash, but do you guys think it will also help for my device? After I've drained the battery, I'll give feedback.
Please excuse my grammar. I'm Norwegian
hmmm
I personaly think that there's nothing wrong with trying to drain the battery. I thought of a reason why this may have happened. Did your router get unplugged or did you somehow lose internet connection while the update was installing?

download the firmware for your region from HERE (offical Asus download)
You then extract the zip file thats inside the zip youve just downloaded ^^ (zip file inside the zip file) and put it on the root of your MicroSD card
Put the microsd card into the Prime
Power your prime on keeping the power button and the Volume down buttons pressed.
When you see writing at the top of the screen, press Volume up key (as directed)
It should then load recovery and flash the prime again with the update.zip you put on the microsd card.
I tried to do this using a regular SDHC card in the dock's SD Card slot, and all that happened was that I was being shown a screen with a "downed" Android. Do you think that using a micro SD card in the Tablet slot makes a difference? In that case, this is a no-brainer
I'm going to the electrics store now to buy a Micro SD card with an adapter Wish me luck!
yeah having a micro SD card in the tablet probably makes a difference. Wish you good luck!
Sorry guys, using a micro SD didnt work... I'll send the Prime back to the vendor tomorrow and hopefully, when I get it back it'll have Ice cream sandwich installed Thx for your time gentlemen!
After I bought my nook tablet in december 2011, I used the thread over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1366024 to set it up.
It worked great till around a month back where I did not use the tablet for over a week and then it refused to start up. All I could see was a faint backlight.
I tried multiple things from the XDA forums since then including http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663836 (unbricking nook tablet) as well as holding down power and nook button for 20 seconds before that. Nothing worked and I finally gave up.
Since I was out of the warranty period anyways and live in India, I thought of finally buying a new tablet and just gave the nook tablet a final shot this morning. Suddenly, I hear the Nook lady with her setup instructions pouring out of the speakers but still just a faint backlight with light banding.
I believe that my Nook tablet is not bricked but cannot verify with certainty whether I have a hardware display problem or a software problem. I searched the forums here but could not find anyone else with a similar problem.
My OS: Windows 8
Any help will be appreciated.:fingers-crossed:

Thanks for your feedback. Does that mean that this will require a full display change? I see some random horizontal light bands through the screen currently and a faint backlight throughout.

Yeah the screen is probably dead. Not sure what it costs to replace, but if your looking at different tablets to buy I'd recommend a nexus 7.
Make a bootable cwm or cm10 card and try it to see if the screen lights up. I'm guessing its possible some of your system files were corrupted. Lets rule out software issue first.

Thanks satan89:good:. I think it does make sense to rule out software issues fully before I buy a new tablet. Any guidance on where I can learn to make a bootable CWM or CM10 card. Pardon my ignorance on the subject. I do not want to inadvertently exacerbate the situation by following instructions on a wrong thread.

Try this, it's instructions to make a sdcard bootable recovery

Should I try flashing B&N stock first to check whether it works (ie EMMC version I believe)? Need to state that I have never done this before.:silly:
I am planning to buy it here if what you have suggested doesn't work. The nexus tablet is now available in India for pre-order on the play store for INR 15999 (appx USD 300).

Ok. Am being extremely cautious here as I do not want to blow up all chances of recovering the tablet (if at all). I was just researching the procedure suggested by you and want to state that while I had rooted the tablet, I dont recall ever installing CM7 or any other rom on my tablet. Should I still go ahead with your suggestion?
It doesn't matter what Rom you have or had or rooting status, since this method forces the tablet to boot into the sd card. It doesn't touch or effect your device in any other way, and if the card is removed, device will boot into whatever Rom you have..
Don't click anything in the recovery, just use it to check display.

Ok. Here's what I did.
1. Took a 2GB Kingston SD card and formatted it using SDFormatter
2. Removed the SD card and then re-inserted after formatting
3. Used win32 disk imager (v0.7 as 0.5 wasnt available) to burn the image found in file CM9-10_CWM_v6.0.1.2_8-16gb_tools_sdcard
4. Removed SD card from card reader
5. Powered off nook tablet by pressing the power button for around 5-10 secs
6. Inserted the SD card in the nook
7. powered on nook by pressing power button
The screen keeps glowing up for a few seconds. Amping down and then again glowing brighter. I powered off the nook after observing this for 4-5 cycles and have now removed the SD card.
Do you suggest trying the restore to 1.4.0 based on instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402190
or should I just retry with another SD card?
Edit: I tried powering up the Nook now without the SD card and funnily I cant hear the Nook lady anymore. I waited almost 5 minuted for this. Thought about adding this wondering if it would help in identifying the cause.
Well I'm starting to think it's hardware related now. You could try the method above, since theres not much hope of it working anymore.
And if you want the nook lady's speech to come again I think there is a way of resetting the tablet. Holding Power + n button for 8 reboots should reset it.

Hello everyone,
I seem to be facing a singular issue, but I imagine it is much my fault, and just wanted a confirmation from those more experienced with the device...
I bought an Incredible 4G from eBay, that already had the a copy of Avatar on it, I believe almost the latest update. So when I confirmed the device worked after charging the battery, I flashed the latest copy of Avatar and the JB Gapps, and everything seemed hunkydory.
So, after that, I put in my old SIM, deactivated as I was using a non-4g device, and put it in the Incredible 4G. I started the activation process on the phone, following prompts to reboot the phone (Note: I did not know about CM10.1's issue regarding activation at the time, so one of the possible problems.)
After seemingly failing to activate after the first reboot, I "tried again" and it went down for another reboot. And it stayed down. Completely. I cannot get the phone to start, after charging the battery separately, cannot get into bootloader, nothing. I get QHSUSB_DLOAD when plugged into a computer using USB, but that's it.
A few notes: first time I started up, the screen went to recovery. I didn't think that was an issue; I factory reset from there, and rebooted into Avatar. Second issue: I used ROM updater on the phone to download and install the recovery, as I imagined that there was an automatic checksum done in the process (perhaps it was imagined?), and so when it went to flash, it had some issue, which didn't seem like a problem with the download, and I went through flashing it normally through recovery. Sorry I can't provide more details on that, but everything seemed to work all right after rebooting.
Finally, and this may be irrelevant, I put a 64GB SDXC card in the phone, I had already realized that it could not natively support exFAT, and so left the card in the device until the next time I could boot to recovery to partition it, and went through the activation process with the card inserted and not recognized.
So, I imagine that I have a hard brick, but can't tell if it's completely my fault, because it bricked in a peculiar fashion, at least from what I can tell, as no one seems to have encountered a similar issue after searching for the last 5 days.
If there's any hope for recovery, I would really appreciate some help regarding the device. I'm willing to provide some more info if necessary, and I'd like to find out sooner rather than later if it's a lost cause.
Thanks for any help you guys can give. XDA devs are awesome.
Quite the predicament. Just to clarify, have you tried the following?
1) Remove that super-big MicroSD
2) Remove SIM
3) Remove battery and wait a few minutes; also press the power button while phone is off
4) Only re-inserting the battery, hold vol-down and then hold power until screen comes on (then release power but keep holding vol-down)
I have tried them all; no SIM or SD card has been in there since the issue started. I hadn't tried pushing the power button while the battery was out, but it doesn't seem to change anything. So far, no reaction whatsoever even when holding power + vol down for a few minutes.

You can't do fastboot if you can't reach the bootloader, and I've been assured the unlimited.io tool will not help for DLOAD resulting from non-racun related procedures.
Reading forum posts about QHSUSB_DLOAD suggest either jtag is necessary (which might not be worth it considering the phone can be purchased for $150 on ebay) or some strange strokes of luck after letting the phone sit for a bit. ChiqOmar, sorry I don't have great advice; do all the reading you can about QHSUSB_DLOAD mode.

yes sounds like he is stuck in QSHUSB_DLOAD mode, but i don't know if the resolutiion on unlimited.io will help him or not.they say it's not supported for other reasons other than from running their exploit. it might work though.

i was able to bring my rezound back after a hard brick with a hex edited hboot that went bad with this tool but ported for rezound. its worth a try?
Thanks for the help everyone. Yes, although it states quite clearly that the Unlimited.io tool is only meant for devices bricked using their tool, I tried it anyway; obviously, nothing changed.
Though JTAG sounds interesting, I have no idea how to get started with that...nor do I really know if I want to travel down that route just now.
The HTC Unbricking Project sounds promising, but also no idea how to get started as it has not been ported for our device. The partitions don't get mounted in Ubuntu, as I connected it to the computer to use the Unlimited.io tool.
Finally, regarding the nature of the brick itself, I really wish I could pinpoint the issue better to help others if a similar issue happens in the future.
I am actually waiting on a battery, (ordered before I got the phone) and so will try that to see if anything changes.
Thanks again everyone. I've got a feeling I might have to write this one off pretty soon.

If there's any hope for recovery, I would really appreciate some help regarding the device. I'm willing to provide some more info if necessary, and I'd like to find out sooner rather than later if it's a lost cause.
Thanks for any help you guys can give. XDA devs are awesome.

I lost my first Dinc 4G LTE after I installed CM10.1, was working great for a while and just blinked off, never to recover. No charge light, no response to power button. I also had an aftermarket battery (Hyperion), but it would get so hot charging I replaced it with an OEM HTC battery. I think that damaged the phone.
Since I work with analog electronics, I assume something in the power path physically burned out. I never tried to talk to it via USB, but just cabling it to a computer generates no response.
I went back to the Stock RUU.zip from the unlimited.io site to get the firmware update. During the update it just sort of died. Now I can't get it to charge or get into the bootloader. Help! Please!:crying:
Hi all,
I thought this might help ppl, it certainly helped me.
So as I reported earlier mine NT was one of those which wont boot off of the sd unless tethered. I did many things but I THINK (can't be certain) that I did what is mentioned my the guy PHIL here in the below link and it solved it (for until now, for my last 3-4 boots)
Basically, just remove the cord once you see the N sign, timing might be important I don't know.

P.S. : Making a separate thread so that ppl can see and get benefited. Sorry if thats against forum rules. Just trying to help
Cheers !
I'm sorry, but I don't really get how this is a solution to the problem that you need to be thethered to boot from sd. In order for you to "remove the cord" it has to be inserted in the first place = you are thethered. Or am I missing something?
Normally what you do with those troublesome ones that needs to be tethered to boot from sd is you turn it off (wich of course you do anyway!), and instead of pressing "power" you insert the powered cable. Once the boot process starts you can either leave the chord in or remove it. It doesn't matter.
Is this something different where you don't need the chord to be connected to the charger? Or is it for a number of Tablets that doesn't boot from sd even when thethered the "normal" way (with the powered chord)?
Sorry, don't mean to be difficult, but I honestly don't get it! I have only had one of the 10 or so NT:s that has passed through my hands with this problem, so I really have very little experience of it and want to learn more!
Edit: I think I maybe get it now. There is a lot of talk about sleep mode and turning off the device and this supposedly allows you to turn on and off the device and it boots into SD until you need to charge it again. Personally I never turn off my devices unless for example on an airplane. It hardly looses any battery in standby as long as wifi is off. A good ROM will not require you to turn it for battery conservation!

Hi, I see the confusion, what I meant (at least worked for me) is to that as a one time thing.. after that if I switch off switch on it can boot from sd card by pressing the n key on startup, no more need of tethering. I don't know if it'll work with everyone, don't have more such tablets to try on. Give it a shot. Worked for me, I hope this helps

The "remove the cord on the first boot-screen flash" was identified/posted on XDA at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25668292&postcount=13. I had used it successfully when I was running CM7-beta, but I have not been able to get it to work with any CM9 and CM10 SD ROM builds.
