Hi.
On certain custom roms my lockscreen looks "cloudy" on the left hand side. This is most appearant on a dark lockscreen. Looks like it could be a faulty screen but the problem doesnt persist on the homescreen or not even on all roms lockscreens. Anyone experiencing the same?

I have flashed lots of Roms and not seen this, I know you say it is particulary aparent on dark lock screens, is this all dark lockscreens?
Does this also happen on the default lockscreen. I could be wrong but I should imagine theres nothing wrong with your device or this would be aparent on all screens.
Turn off ripple effect and you´re good to go

The title says it. I made a completely black picture on my PC, and use it as the background for the stock lockscreen. Despite this, there's a brownish horzontal banding across the bottom of the screen that fades upwards across a third of the screen, when it should be black! I thought this was a screen deficiency at first, but then i saw that this banding isn't there when i display black images in the gallery or anywhere else except for the lock screen.
Build GINGERBREAD.XWKE1 stock ROM, rooted, Kernel XWKE2.
1. Does everyone else have this?
2. Does it go away with an alternative lockscreen?
3. Are there usually this many bugs on new Android-devices, as there evidently are on the SGS2?

I changed to a black blackground too a while ago.
As I found out it is actually better for your battary to have a black background.
look here http://blog.stevemould.com/phone-battery-save-black-wallpaper
just read the article on that.
Hi Guys
My sgs 3 has a strange pattern on the lockscreen wallpapers, if they are dark you can see like brighter areas, bits of say a full black wallpaper show as grey.
I did think the screen was faulty but when I use same wallpapers for home screen/view pics/movies this problem is not there, its only on the lockscreen wallpaper, If I use a very bright one its hard to see but any black/dark red/blue/dark green will show this odd blotch...mainly right side.
Thanks for any help
Settings>Security>Lock screen options
Untick "Ripple effect".
Is there some issue with the phone? Movies/games/pics all fine, I just get strange blotch on lockscreen, and what makes it even stranger if I use a live wallpaper on the lockscreen its fine,i only get the problem if i set a picture for the lockscreen 9worse with dark colours)

As B3311 just pointed out, turn off ripple effect and the weird pattern on lockacreen is gone. It needs to be there in order to be able to create the ripple effect.
Hi
I saw the post but I am just keen to find out what/why its there, you say it needs to be but that seems like a odd thing for Samsung to have, is there other posts covering this as I would like to find out if this is a samsung tech reply (its normal) or if its been seen by us and thats an answer we have came to.
thanks
Hey, I got another issue yesterday. When the "ripple" (water) effect is active in the lockscreen options, the wallpaper basically lightens the right side of any wallpaper selected. If the wallpaper happens to be a pure black wallpaper, the lockscreen actually displays a GREY image, with a lighter shade of grey on the right side of the screen. It works fine though on the homescreen if the same image is selected, which is kinda odd. Mind you, it was working perfectly before this.
Also, today I noticed some "loophole" that allows me to select live wallpapers in the "home and lock screen", which I could not perform prior to this. Trying to change the "lock screen" though, does not give me the "live wallpaper" option (which is the normal behaviour).

yup i noticed this also must be needed to create ripples i mean the water needs to bounce off something right? loljk
it's only on the lockscreen with the ripple effect active.

No. Previously it was purely black, it only happened yesterday. =.=|| When you first get the phone, these issues are not there. I already owned the phone for 18 days or so.
EDIT: nvm, just realised you put "loljk" there >_<
bump still having this issue even with XXALF6 update
I'm gonna bump this as it just happened to me as well. Any fixes?
I think it's on all phones but you guys didn't notice
No it wasn't there when I first got the phone. I had a black lock screen without issues for a moment, and then this issue popped out of nowhere. Problem still persists until now. It only happens in the stock lock screen and not for widget locker etc.

The problem just randomly popped up for me too. After about a week of working properly. pretty strange problem.

I'm gonna bump this again, just in case someone found a fix for it.
Same Problem Exists
I'm bumping this too as I can confirm the same issue. A fix would be appreciated Samsung.
Seems to be a problem only when the lock screen background is very black. Also same issue, rooted I-9300. But downloading a different lock screen helps (I'm using holo lock screen, which looks like the JB lock).
I have recently bought an S3 and I noticed that the display is weird on the lock screen when using the ripple effect.
It's most apparent when using a black wallpaper. If the ripple effect is on I have what I can only describe as "milky" lighter black blotches on the right of the screen. If I turn the ripple effect off it is fine.
Has anyone else noticed this problem?
I'm using XXDLJ4 firmware

Ripple effect makes the dark wallpaper lighter in a way, I think it's intentional.
I typed this by hand.

No this isn't intentional, it's 3 lighter patches on the right of the screen.
I don't mean when you touch the screen they appear, you just have to wake up the phone to notice it.
And if you turn the ripple effect off, then wake up the screen it looks fine again.
Definitely a bug in my opinion, I'm just curious as to weather any one has this issue.
Yep, I have that as well, but mine is on the left side. Definitely a bug.
I first thought that my image had a fault, but when I turned off the ripple, problem went away.
Now I just leave ripple off.

I have the same problem. Top right
I was just about to post something about this in the Q&A...
Not sure if it's all TouchWiz roms or not but I'm currently on Bean's build 14.
I've attached two screenshots (choose a wallpaper that best showed the effect) with the only difference was the ripple effect turned off.
i had it also, you have to disable the ripple effect or else it makes the blacks on the lock screen light no idea why just guessing its a bug? XD
I re-up this thread: do anyone found wich files are involved in ripple effect smudges? I'd like to remove it but keeping the ripples...

Hey guys, I got my phone last Saturday and have been playing around with it ever since.
I noticed that I had the night clock bug (whole screen is lit up) and as far as I know it's already a confirmed software bug. What I also noticed though was that my lock screen is also lit up. I'm using a pure black wallpaper which works well when the phone is unlocked (appears pure black) but the black is lit up when the lock screen is shown. It's almost like there's backlight bleeding. In the home screen and lock screen preview though it shows that it should be pure black
Here are screenshots of the "bug". I'm actually thinking it's a software bug since it was captured by the screenshot. http://imgur.com/a/p5maP (Take note the the blacks on the first image is different from the other 3)
Was wondering if this bug is related to the night clock bug or a defect with my unit.
If anyone is willing to help, kindly try changing your wallpaper to a solid black color and check if the blacks on the home screen and lock screen is different.
Thanks! (I have 4 days left until I won't be abe to replace my unit so I'm trying to make sure everything's good)

They're referring to the Night Clock alone. I have that problem as well as a lockscreen problem. Haven't seen anyone reporting if they have the lock screen problem so I'm trying to figure out if it's a software glitch or a bug with my unit.
Basically the lock screen preview when applying a new wallpaper shows that the lock screen should have super amoled blacks but when I lock the phone the black is lit up.

If there's any consolation I experienced this very problem. Were you using fingerprint to unlock? I hadn't seen it because I had swipe to unlock.
I still haven't figured out how to fix it.

That's normal. This happens because the lock screen puts a slight filter on your wallpaper. It de-saturates the image. You can try with a solid red color, it might be easier to see.

Not, really. This only happens when you have Fingerprints/Pattern set up as your Screen lock type.
If you set it to Swipe, with the water droplet effect, there's no "filter."
Someone found kind of a solution to this, but it didn't work for me: http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...t-rid-dark-filter-lock-screen-wallpapers.html

Yeah it's clearly a bug, but OP thought it might be a defect of his phone. I was just reassuring OP that the problem exists in my phone as well. Thanks for that link. I did try the solution they proposed but it didn't work for me either...
Solution not working...plz another fix?
I have the same bug on my Galaxy J5 (super amoled), I use pin to unlock it. It is pretty annoying. I use the same black picture for both lock screen and background pic, and after unlocking the phone, black backlight turns off. Swipe to unlock solves the problem, but I have to take one of the disadvantages : either backlight or not locked phone.
Download "klwp live wallpaper maker" from playstore and make a all black wallpaper . Save it go to settings ---> background/wallpaper, set KLWP as lockscreen and wallpaper/background.
Not solved? are u using xposed? if so, download Bright Lockscreen and see if this helps.
