[Q] Windows 7 doesn't recognize my I9300. - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I cannot connect my phone to any pc.
Problem started after re-installing Windows 7 I believe.
The phone charges fine over usb.
Here's what I have tried so far:
I have changed mtp to ptp.
I have tried using different usb cables and ports
I have re-installed windows 3 times
I have installed Samsung drivers and kies, and tried fixing the error thru kies.
I have tried different kernels (Siyah and stock cm10 kernel)
I have tried on a different pc.
I have tried the stock sgs3 rom, it has Siyah kernel.
I have tried turning USB debugging on and off.
Galaxy S3 toolkit doesn't recognize my phone.
Any help is appreciated.

You say you already tried stock rom with Siyah Kernal. How did you get back to stock did you flash or use Odin?
I would make a backup, Use Superwipe script and use Odin to load Stock Ics 4.0.4 and then try. If that fails you can always restore back to your backup and someone else maybe able to provide a solution.
TBH it doesn't sound like its your PC if you have tried it on other PCs.

I had an older backup with the stock rom in it.
I'm not sure can Odin connect to my phone, so I would end up bricking it completely..

Odin is relatively safe but I am not going to guarentee anything, There is a lot of tutorials on using odin on here and youtube. It is completely up to you what you do. My suggestion was purely based on what I would do in your situtation.

I just tried to flash cf-root using odin and windows just gave me a error.
Could doing a megawipe or a superwipe make windows recognize my phone again then?

Uninstall Kies completely from your PC when its uninstalled reboot your PC then make sure the Kies folder located here is deleted
Program Files / Samsung / Kies
Next download and install Kies from the Samsung web site, reboot your PC once rebooted plug your phone in to the USB (preferably with the original USB cable), let the drivers install themselves.
Once installed you should have it working again.

Done, it says USB device not recognized.
I'm currently installing Kies on a laptop, if it works it means that my motherboard is broken or something, if it doesn't it means my phones usb port is broken.
E: Okay, this windows is saying that the device is in error mode or something like that...
Question: How do I get my phone to stock without usb so I can take it to the warranty?

Hello,
Have you try if odin see the phone when it connected to your computer ?

Pants. I'm in the same situation, but my phone isn't rooted. So I can't use mobile odin. Anyone else have any thoughts on this? Is there any way of using stock recovery to either flash an official image or perhaps root?

Can't install drivers, Odin won't connect

Hi guys,
I have a problem that's fairly common but I can't get it right
I can't install new drivers for my SGS2, my pc/laptop don't recognize it anymore.
I have flashed an ICS rom before so I also tried the Nexus S drivers, no success.
I have tried to work with Android SDK manager but since my laptop can't find my phone, it won't find it as an adb device.
I managed to get back on 2.3.3 via CWM manager but my USB jig also doesn't work anymore.
I have tried everything regarding Kies and new drivers so I'm pretty much out of hope... Anyone with suggestions?
You could use mobile odin, also if you flash back to ics you can reset counter with triangleaway and then flash back to gb

Problem is that I can't flash back the old bootloader..
I think the logical step would be to try another PC, given you've tried everything else & nothing has worked.
You could also maybe try Heimdall (search for it on here).
Also, if you haven't tried different USB cables (in particular the one that came with the phone), give that a shot. Also make sure you're connecting the phone to a powered/mainboard USB port & not a hub port. Also, try toggling USB debugging in your phone settings.
That's about all I got. Try these things if you haven't already, but definitely try another PC.

I have tried different ports with different cables, different pc also won't install the drivers.
Usb debugging on/off doesn't work either.
Going to try heimdall today but it has something to do with my phone since I flashed so many files before with my pc and with my laptop.
Will post after I tried.
Yeah it sounds like a phone issue given you have been able to flash firmware with that PC previously. Good luck with Heimdall, fingers crossed for you.

Nope, heimdall can't recognize my phone either.
Running out of ideas here.
I guess there isn't an option to flash the old bootloader other than Odin huh?
Unfortunately Mobile Odin can't flash bootloaders yet, so Odin (and probably Heimdall) are your only options. Either way you're going to need USB.

My PC recently stopped working properly it connects but always fails flashing via Odin, I managed to set up Odin etc on GF laptop so at least I can use Odin if needed. Could you not try restoring your PC to earlier date and see if that works or uninstall everything to do with phone, kies, Odin adb etc and do a fresh install of everything

My phone doesn't connect at all.
I have tried uninstalling everything including drivers and such via USBDeview.
The problem lies with the phone itself I think, not my pc.
I think I have found the problem.
I think my USB port from my phone is broken.
I will try to reset my binary counter with Triangleaway, then flash back original firmware without root and then send it for repair to the Vodafone shop!
Hope this works

I have the same problem. I came from CM9 and now I cannot connect my phone to the PC. I am using CheckRom V6.
Do you think it has to do with the bootloader? Or might the usb port be broken as well?

Yeah I think that it has to do with the bootloader, but a broken usb port is also a common problem.
I still have warranty so I will just let Vodafone repair it.
If my pc still doesn't recognize it after that, then I'm screwed.

Yes i tried all that with no luck i just cant get my phone connected to my laptoo if i could I
could unbrick
Check for Windoze updates if you're unable to get your PC & phone to recognise each other after trying the obvious (different USB ports, different cables, different versions of Odin, making sure Kies/its processes aren't running in Task Manager on PC. Try *all* of these).
This has solved the issue for a few people over the last week or so. Failing that, uninstall Kies from your PC, reboot, redownload it, reinstall it, reboot & try again.
If that doesn't work, try a different PC.

This method not required to connect your mobile to PC.
Just need external sdcard and ics based recovery
If you are ics recovery version , we can come from this issue.
1, download any ics ROM ( stock based ) and copy to your external sdcard.
2, root the mobile using this way
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
[GUIDE] ROOT/UNROOT Stock ICS Firmware without flashing unsecure kernel
3, as per the above guide once you flashed cwm.zip , you will get cwm based recovery screen.
4, wipe system and cache
5, install the custom ROM from external sdcard
I believe this method will work for you.
All the best

I believe it won't since he bricked his device and can't even start the phone.
Do what MistahBungle said + make sure that you install Kies first so that you have the proper drivers for Odin.
i have tried this methed. copied all the files on to the sd card, inserted back into the phone put into recovery but would not read external sd card only internal comes up????
That's nice.
Now have you tried the other suggestions that have been made ? If your phone & PC can't/won't recognise each other, you need to fix that first. Forget about CW not working. It's not relevant. You're not going to fix this without an Odin flash and making that happen should be your focus/priority.

I'm having the same issue today, i flashed the siyah kernel beta and now recovery doesn't work and phone stays on Samsung logo.
I can get into download mode but pc says unrecognised device . It was working fine a few days earlier.
Unfortunately my Samsung USB cable appears to have vanished too but I don't see why my other cable shouldn't work as long as it supports data? Maybe the cable is the issue though??
Might be. Try the (many) suggestions on the first page. Any one of those could be/resolve the problem. In addition to those suggestions, you can also try uninstalling Kies on your PC, rebooting, re-downloading it, reinstalling it, rebooting & then seeing if your PC & phone recognise each other.
But definitely try those other suggestions first.

You will need all the files, make sure Keis is not messing with Odin so check to make sure it's not running on the PC.
Have had this happen to me - keep the files safe and you will fix pretty much any brick u manage to do. Mine was in CM9 - dropped and battery fell out had to do the full repair job to fix.

Tried connect without kies installed
Tried with kies installed but not turned on
Rebooted phone and computer
Tried to connect in all usb "holes"
Tried using diffrent usb adapters

I've tried all things i could find..
But when i look in device manager i cant find drivers for my GT-I9100 with ICS 4.03
I'm doing everything i can come up with, and still it wont istall any drivers for my phone?
So how do i get the drivers?, if thats the problem....

1. is your phone rooted? if yes, i believe kies cannot detect rooted phone
2. definitely not the problem of XP, i have no problem with my XP, one possibility could be your XP something corrupted, suggest you try on other pc.
Kies can detects rooted phones so that is not an issue.
You could put your phone in Download mode, and connect it to your pc and then run odin. If Odin detects it then it is not your drivers. If Odin cannot find a phone then obviously there is an issue with the drivers.(btw you dont have to do anything in odin for it to find it)

But as said the problem is that i dont have drivers at all on my computer for my phone, still i have latest update of kies..
Then do waht MistahBungle says. If your drivers arent installed kies is doing something wrong. Uninstall kies, delete the entire remaining Kies folder from program files, Clean up your registry and reboot your pc.
Once you have done that, Redownload Kies from the samsung website, make sure its the windows 32 bit(x86) version(as im guessing you are running that as XP) and install it.
Once it is installed. Reboot your computer. Turn your phone on and make sure USB debugging is completely turned off and then plug the phone in to your pc.
MistahBungle said:
Given you say you've tried *everything*, if it were me, I'd try a different PC. If it still doesn't work, user error; probably something really simply we're missing/you're not doing. Impossible to say what it is as we're not there with you looking over your shoulder.
Actually, I saw a thread on here last week, someone had tried everything like you & they fixed it by uninstalling Kies, removing Kies registry entries, rebooting, downloading/installing a fresh copy of Kies (for the drivers), running Windoze Update, rebooting. Fixed. Maybe try this before another PC.
You also must check Windoze Task Manager & kill Kies/any associated processes. You only want the drivers, not Kies/it's processes running when you use Odin.

Galaxy S3 will not install drivers when connected in download mode

I am trying to root my SGS3 international via Odin. The problem is that when I connect it to the computer in download mode, nothing happens. The device is not detected and the drivers are not being intalled. Worst of all ID : Com does not turn blue/yellow and the device is not added to Kies.
I have installed Kies, separate driver packs, I have tried different cables, different usb ports (on and off the mainboard of the PC), I have googled the problem for hours and still cannot figure it out.

Thank you for your reply.
I thought of that myself. But in order for me to use Mobile Odin Pro, I nedd to get root and in order to get root, I need to use Odin to flash the root files.
Nothing happens at all when the phone is connected to the computer in download mode. If the phone is booted in android, the drivers begin to install and Odin sees the phone (needless to say, I cannot flash while in Android mode). When I reboot in download mode, nothing happens.
have you made sure kies isn't running in the background? You need to kill all kies processes before using Odin or it may interrupt your flash. Aside from that you could uninstall kies and drivers and just try inhaling the drivers on their own? Which Windows version are you using? Xp can be problematic
Any idea whatsoever would be welcome

Issues flashing stock rom on Samsung Galaxy Ace

Hi
So, I have a samsung galaxy ace, which I haven't used for a while now. I decided its time to sell it. Problem is I flashed a custom rom (cyanogenMod 9) on it back then and it is also rooted. Before I sell it I need to unroot it and flash the stock rom back on. (Phone is working fine and is bootable)
So far I have unrooted it. As for flashing the stock rom, I'm having issues.
I have downloaded various versions of Odin (4.38, 4.34, 1.87), but none of them seem to detect the phone on my PC. I have downloaded the usb drivers and my PC itself seems to detect that its connected, but not Odin. I have Kies installed and have made sure it is not running through task manager.
So, can anyone PEASE help me with this. I'm not too familiar with Odin either, so I don't want to accidentally brick my phone.

Yes and Yes
Might be worth pointing out that I am running Windows 8 on my PC.
And my phone has cyanogenMod 7 not 9.
Also, I have just started receiving an error message when connecting the phone. It will charge it fine through the usb cable, but when in download mode it started giving the error message: USB device not recognised.

Try reinstalling the drivers. Download Android SDK and install the "Google USB drivers" package.

I had this problem too the first time i tested Odin to see if it would detect my device. Make sure you're using a main USB port on the back of your computer, not any on the front/sides/ monitor etc. You might have to remove the USB and insert it a couple of times before it detects your device then it should install the required drivers allowing the device to be detected. I also did not use Kies for the drivers but downloaded a standalone installation package that you can find by searching in the forums.

If windows is showing not recognise error in one port, it will most probably show it always like this
Try different port and reinstalling drivers with phone connected helps
And many times, drivers have to be installed many times
