Galaxy S3 not being recognized in odin in download mode
Could someone please assist.
My rooted Galaxy S3 phone (FW v4.1.2) is stuck at the Samsung startup screen after installing a font app from the app store
To resolve I have tried:
1. The recovery screen - doing a factory reset and reboot
2.. Reflash through ODIN.
I can get get the phone into download mode but ODIN will not recognize the phone in Download mode (Funny that phone is recognised by Odin at the stuck Samsung boot screen)
- I have unistalled and reinstalled KIES and USB drivers
- I am using the stock USB cable
- Tried different USB ports on computer
- Tried on different computers
The problem may be Windows driver related. Because phone gets stuck at the Samsung startup screen, all processes of driver installation do not conclude successful. "MTP USB Device" shows error in Windows Device manager, USB composite deivce.
Uninstalled and reinstalled these a couple of times without success.
Please assist
Issues with usb on s3
Actually fixed my own Question....
My phone was in download mode and was not being recognized by my computer my windows 7 computer. I pressed the usb icon, where a box popped up saying that there was an unknown device. You could find this in device manager.
I then went to device manager to update the driver instead of pointing the device directly to the driver when i clicked browse my computer for software then it shows a location and option to let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer then a box pops up showing model above that there is a little check box uncheck that two boxes will appear with manufacturer and model
Scroll samsung electronics and model samsung mobile composite device that is what you want to update the driver to...
I pulled the battery then re-entered download mode and windows to over installing the rest now it works fine. I would attach images but it will not let me for some reason. if anyone can help with that I will do it later.
THIS COULD POSSIBLY help with devices not being found on computers in bootloader or just on rom loaded and running..

Hey guys, i know it's a bit late now, but i had exactly the same problem with my gt-i9300 (got stuck on samsung splash screen and odin didn't recognize it in download mode) and just realised that everytime, i connected my phone to my PC in download mode, a message would appear that "Gadget Device" (or something like that) was connected. Then i searched in my device manager for the name of it (i found it under USB-Devices) and uninstalled the driver of it. As i connected it again with odin started it would install the driver automatically and *swoosh* odin recognized it.
A year and some later after the last post and I seem to be having this problem as well... I believe it was due to a bad flash at very low battery level which ended up in encryption failure ya da da, factory reset, clear/format everything and flash custom rom from SD because any other connection would not work.... then managed to get windows (many flavors inc. 7, 8 and 10) to connect as MTP or in USB debugging mode but Odin mode (download) just won't do anything... i put the phone in DL mode, nothing happens, no windows connection sounds, no changes in devices manager, even when searching for new hardware. I'd be very interested to know if anyone has had anything like that. I'd really like to flash stock to go back to a custom rom, flash twrp to replace cwm but all seems to no avail if i can't get a connection while in DL mode.
tried to install adb fastboot but also nada since no connection is being made.... might be something with DL mode gone awry with the bad flash... long story but OTA update from current ROM decided on its own to push update even though battery was at 5% and no user interaction ever happened...
we'll see what happens...

If you think you get working drivers installed, put your computer online, put your phone on download mode, plug the cable, and wait for it to install.
This is for windows 7, otherwise install the Samsung usb drivers again

That's hard.
If you do not get the PC recognize your phone in download mode, you have a real problem.
Try another USB port and cable.
Try to connect your phone to another PC.
Maybe you have to give it to a service center for repair.
Is your phone already out of warranty?
I had a similar problem where it freezes on that screen.
My problem was I installed an ICS rom with old version kernel.
Once I installed the latest CF-Root the boot was successful.
If Odin can't see your phone and you can still go into Download mode, I would check to make sure that Kies is not open and no Kies process is live (Task Manager / Processes), I think it's call "KiesTrayAgent", just kill the process and any process that has a Kies word in it.
Otherwise try another PC.
Help mee.
I have bought a s3 that is locked to Orange, need to unlock, but odin does not see the phone in recovery/dl mode.

Install Samsung Kies to be able your PC to detect your phone via Odin
also check the debugging mode in the developer options

I have uninstalled the older Kies, re installed the latest.
I have installed the lastest odin.
Have tried to link up with and without debugging, odin still does not see phone when in recovery mode.
Only time odin see the phone when phone is in normal mode.
Starting to get annoyed now lol, i cant cut my sim to fit phone, untill this is done
I cant see my s2 on odin either, what am i doing wrong ????
1. Reboot PC
2. Ensure KIES is not running and kill any KIES processes in PC task manager.
3. Download mode
4. Connect USB directly to PC port (no hub)
5. Wait for any drivers to instal or load on PC
6. Start Odin in administrator mode
If still no good;
a) Different USB cable
b) Different PC USB port and wait for drivers

Thanks . Seems that I had been pressing volume up not down.
I have another question . I used chainfire Rom to debrand the phone but keis does not recognize . How can I solve this . Could it be because the phone is rooted ?
i am having this problem at the mo, I have tried all of the above, apart from a different pc.
oden worked fine with my galaxy s2
is there any more updates on how to sort this out please?
thanks

I know this is a 7 day old thread, but I feel for you having been in the same situation. Firstly, have you installed the Android SDK? If not then I advise you to do so. Do a search on how to install the SDK. There maybe smaller downloads available with a package of the binaries you need to do some testing i.e. adb. The instructions will elaborate about how to set up your Environment settings in Windows. Essentially ADB needs to be called from within any part of your Windows system....or else you will have to cd to its location each and every time you want to do something like this. So once you have done that, open command prompt and type adb and see what comes up? If it says bad command or file name it means your environment settings for the ASK are incorrect, if it displays the adb help text in command prompt you are ready to proceed.
When you plug your device in (not in DL or recovery modes) is it detected by the PC? If so then your drivers are probably fine. If not then it maybe 1 of 2 things? 1 the device is detected but the MTP drivers have not been loaded or 2. No detection what so ever and all drivers need to be installed.
To determine how to proceed you will need to do a bit of investigating.
Note the USB drivers are included as part of the Android SDK.
Check in Device manager inside of Windows to see if anything is detected when you plug it in. If so but it has a yellow exclamation ! then it would indicate you need to update your drivers (but not always?). From here you can test to see if the phone is detected and you only need MTP drivers.
If not then I would suggest uninstalling Keis all together and downloading and installing the Samsung USB drivers separately. Install the drivers. Plug in the phone. If it is not detected straight away, then reboot the PC then plug the phone into a different USB port. From here you can determine how to proceed by using adb.
plug your phone in via USB and open command prompt and type this: adb devices
You should see 1 of 2 things.
1) The words "list of devices attached" followed by a 16 digit long ID number a gap and the word "device"
2) just the words "list of devices attached" and then blank and nothing else?
If a device ID is returned then you can proceed with the following. Otherwise you need to do some additional trouble shooting
Proceed here:
Once it is detected by Windows and shows up in Explorer then unplug the phone and go into settings and developer options and check enable USB debugging. Once you have done this it should allow your device to be seen in DL and recovery modes.
Troubleshoot: If not detected try the following:
1) Reboot the PC and plug into a new USB port that you have not previously plugged into.
2) Try disabling USB debugging plugging the device in and then unplugging it and reenabling USB debugging
3) From the status bar try switching modes between MTP and PTP modes. Wait a good minute or so between to allow Windows to detect the driver change. Tip a good indication is your notification tray Icon with green USB disk with a magnifying glass swirling around....Note if you cannot see this at all you probably should drag it into the notification panel so that you CAN!
4) Open up device manager again and ensure no yellow exclamation marks !
Once all this is right and you can get List of devices attached followed by an ID number then you can for sure be able to detect your device from Odin. Make sure you are running Odin 3.04, run it as admin (not necessary but have heard that it helps?)
Good luck
James

You can try with minimal/no drivers i.e. uninstall kies if you have it and delete the drivers you might have installed on your own-it sounds counter productive but it has worked for me a few times.
You can also try to either install kies or the drivers separately.
Try the forum for your own phone, the people there might know better about this problem.
Also what OS are you on?

Ok so i think i bricked my phone but not completely happened when i flashed CWM Touch but must of not of been the version for the note. I can boot it up goes to Samsung logo but then all black this happened when i went to my Rom and rebooted it to recovery to see the CWM touch worked so no its just staying on the logo and I cant reboot it to Recovery mode anymore I can however boot to download mode some freinds over at BlackStar Rom Thread helped out how to fix it I just cant get my darn PC to install the drivers even if i Downloaded them on the Samsung Website and still says Unknown Device...
Any help will be appreciated ...I am very unhappy without my note lol...but yea i am
I would uninstall any Samsung Driver you have and then download fresh just the driver here: http://d-h.st/jfx then reinstall them and reboot you pc after uninstall and reinstalling.
And if you are running BStar, bigfau doesn't mind if you post your questions or issues in his thread, he and the folks there are very helpful and like keeps all in the thread.
Just a side note....
Okay will ask in the thread then thanks also tried what you said and uninstalled kies still get unknow device
So you have no Com connection in download mode while using Odin ?
If you have download mode, then Odin should work .....as the drivers on the device side are still working..
Or are you seeing the download " limp" mode ???
With the pictures of a computer and phone on your phone screen ????
If so ...go to the " note super everything thread " and scroll down to the post ...." Odin tips for better success "....
It explains a bit more ....
Good luck ......g
yes i just get a error 43 says windows has stopped device when i try to load the drivers it does nothing says has the most best driver for the phone i get into download mode shows the pic of android and says on top odin mode and my phones model number other than that it wont read to my pc so i can get the install going via odin or kies i currently have kies uninstalled did as Bigjoe said and uninstalled drivers and reinstalled all with always rebooting my pc
still no sucess thinking of buying some usb to micro cords and see if that will help my pc still says unknown device even after uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers
I'm trying to root my GT-i9305 which I recently bought. I'm using Odin v3.07, however.. I put my phone in download mode, it doesn't detect my phone. It detects my phone when I have it turned on in the normal mode.
I've downloaded Samsung Kies already and when I go into Device Manager, I find my phone and it says 'Samsung Android Phone' and under that is 'Samsung Android ADB Interface' and the driver for that is up to date.
All Samsung Kies processes are killed and not running, phone is in debugging mode. I've factory reset the phone to see if it had something to do with the phone, but that doesn't seem to work either.
I have looked in the forum and came across this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1742426

What am I doing wrong?

I think, the download mode and ADB uses different drivers! At least they show different device names.
Did you see anything in hardware manager when you plug the download mode?
And if you are using windows 7, the windows update should automatically install the download driver

Flashing a new rom will not remove old user data unless you formatted it completely.
Odin will work only in download mode and you need to right click > Run as Admin.
Enter download mode on your phone and connect your device to PC then flash the stock 4.3
