does using custom rom improve image quality? especially lack of detail and does custom rom have continous autofocus in vid rec?
Never saw much of an improvement in the camera department using a custom Rom.

Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24147607
Some ROMs have it incorporated. Like mine.
It's a simple modded SEMCcameraUI.apk

I don't think the CamCorder in 2.2 is any better than the one in 2.1.. But it is usable(sound is still kinda low quality).
Buy a camera?

I did several tests of the "optimized" semc camera and zdizdhu's beta4 camera, and here's what i found:
AOSP camera takes sharper photos
SEMC camera has better color contrast
SEMC camera has better video recording
AOSP camera has better focus on close shots
AOSP camera is MUCH faster than the SEMC version
i don see wat's the point u asking this.. it's all depends on the user.. jus try it up urself and make ur own judgement
do any of the AOSP cameras support zoom?

Nope. Most third-party camera-reliant apps are unsupported as well. Meaning most apps that use the camera won't work. Also AOSP cameras only support one resolution, so that's another limit
Just making a poll for other's opinion regarding camera quality. And why?

Camera quality is same. I don't know why it would differ because it's the same 5MP shooter.. However software dependent things like focus time etc can vary.. As far my experience with all fw version is concerned, camera UI on gb was very user friendly. However camera focused faster in ics .587
That's all I can say.

I find camera focusing better in GB. Try taking pics of a tree from 8 feet distance using GB and ICS Rom's. Now check the image in original resolution, you can see GB images are sorta soft but the focus is good and details are also ok. But if you check the ICS captured image, you can see there is over sharpening, noise & out of focus areas in the image.
Well the video capturing quality was definitely better in GB than ICS...
About the camera... I consider both fine

Camera images on ICS are better-they are of larger size, hence less compression and better quality
Video was better on GB-GB had stereo sound and higher frame rate
ICS has mono sound
Thanks for the reply. Does editting media_profile.xml doesnt work when changing the channel from 1 to 2 for stereo?

Guys we all love JB ROMS but the only thing we don't like is the camera quality ...camera app doesn't support more than 5MP and video recording is crap . So can any one PORT the stock camera app from ICS 4.0.4 to KXP and PAC ROMS .. then the ROM will be completed to full satisfaction
1+ on that, I cant even use the stock jellybean camera app on the FXP rom, it just lags and freezes.

I don't think this will ever happen.
To make photos up to 8mpx you can install a third party app.
OR
You can install PAC - default camera app is working pretty good and can take pics up to 8mpx
Thanks bro ... which third party app you suggest???

Camera Pro is the best one. I ever try. Macro mode working, Video look good at high bit-rate (24p mpeg 14Mbps)

the interface is not handsome, but do the job fine, and can be tweak to look less ugly.
Hey all,
Was wondering if there was a rom out there that has both cameras working but at full 5mp & 1.3mp respectively and not low quality like in cm10.
Thx

Any current up to date custom ROM and stock ROM has camera working. This variant of the tablet has a 3 MP shooter. Pictures look fine to me on CM10.
Hey guys,
I have only a simple question. Anybody knows the rooting and unrooting of the phone (fully back to stock)can affect hardware performance of a phone? Especially the camera's performance ,can lower pictures quality?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
it has no effect on it
no effects on hardware but some bugs in software on aosp, aokp like roms. stock is always good.
