[q] ics, rom, flash player, fixed !!!!!! - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

FIXED !!! thanks
ok, ill try to make it simple, ive been working on my tab since 1pm and its 11pm and am still f*cked up
So to make a long story a short one here is what happened
Since i updated to ICS, everything was fine except for flash player not playing my videos anymore, i found a thread explaining how to fix it BUT i didnt reinstall CWM when i update so i actually did (by mistake) a complete reset on my tab (losing all datas, picture, apps etc)
I was wise enough to make a backup on sept 30 b4 i update to ICS
so i found how to re root the tab on ICS, i did it with success, install CWM with odin
then i took rom manager and restore my apps and data and this is where it got complicated
the md5 mismatch popped out, founded how to fix it using terminal emulator, did it then restore
all my apps and settings where back up except for my pictures (its okay i had them saved on my pc)
so i thought i would simply re update to ICS and my life would be great......NOT !
now i keep getting an error: system UI has stopped
went back to recovery tried to wipe everything to factory reset and start all over again,
well my tab is now reset BUT that freaking system UI error keeps coming up and i cant do nothing
the tab is reset but cwm is still installed and i can still restore from my backup so actually i guess it mean the tab is not fully reset.
more, when i plug the usb cable, it doesnt show up on my pc so i cant explore the tab manually
now i dont know what to do, i've been googling for the past 2 hours, cant find a decent solution.
All i want is toget rid of that system ui error, reset the tab and then try again to restore my old backup so i can have my apps then re update to ICS
please, am really desparate, i need help
EDIT :
i think i might have brick my tab
actually while i was waiting for a reply, i went back into Odin and flashed twrp recovery that i got from another website
then i went into recovery and tried again to wipe everythig (cache, devlak and factory reset) i was then back to honeycomb 3.1 but still getting that systemui error
then i've hit system wipe wich has wipe my rom so now my tab isnt rebooting
its stuck on the samsung galaxy tab screen
while i wait for your help, im looking around to find and set back the stock rom
i feel really dumb atm

Try re-install your rom again by using odin

If it were me I would flash stock recovery and stock Honeycomb image and then manually update to ICS using OTA's if stock rooted ICS was the goal. I would not mess with ROM manager or restore apps and data using it as it is likely where you started to get into trouble.
I have seen the system ui error message before myself and it was when I had restored all apps and data blindly over a new install of ICS using titanium. I had to reflash the ROM again and opted instead to manually install the apps after which I restored data for them individually using titanium. Its a pain to do it but the best way to ensure a stable end result. From that point on the lesson learned was to not restore all apps but just the missing ones.

thanks, after i sent that post, i finaly found the stock ICS rom for my tab and installed it,
now am back to the point where i want to restore my apps/data/pictures from my backup that i did with nandroid
thats where i need help, i still get the md5 mismatch but i know how to fix it using terminal emulator but i think the system ui problem comes up because the backup is from a honycomb 3.1 or 3.2 and now the tab is running ICS.
if i reinstall all my apps manually, do you know how i could restore my data from the nandroid backup ?
am trying to find my original 3.1 honeycomb rom but it seem that it doesnt exist on sammobile

Just manually reinstall everything and set it back up without restoring data. Otherwise you're looking for trouble in my opinion.

Just return back to original stock.

galaxy Note Force close Cant unlock

Alright So I am new to this forum but Im not new to the scene. I cant figure this problem out after days of searching and restoring. So I just got my note last week been loving it coming from my old 4s. Anyways My problem is I did a fresh factory restore rooted with dags kernel (tried both stock root and Oc kernel). I have clockwork recovery installed btw. So usually everything goes smooth. I clear all caches phone boots up runs smooth, I install root then my basic apps. Now I was doing them one by one and restarting.
Well long story short. At random any one of these times I reboot the device I come back into the lock screen Ill unlock and it force closes everything and just keeps rerunning media scanner looping. (force close twlauncher calenders google sync etc like really anything usually its twlauncher thats first I click ok it goes back to lock screen freezes for a second then reboots media scanner. It doesnt find service or even attempt it. The only thing I can do is restore and try again. I have done this over 10 times just this past week. I have fixed permissions in both rom manager and clockwork. Though it was good until last night it just completely restarted on its own and when I booted back up it was force closing.
I even did a fresh format wiped everything reinstalled stock att unrooted Rom then rooted and I have to be afraid of my phone dying or just randomly crashing and that when I restart its not gonna make it back into gingerbread without a restore. Now this will happen whether I have no apps or some apps. I can seem to find anything triggering it. Is this a defect in the phone maybe? Should I restore to stock and exchange at at&t or am I missing something? Please help guys. Ive only been able to get about a day before everything force closes. And that is unacceptable for an 700 dollar phone when all these others are running smooth.
Did you happen to mess with any overclock values? I had the problem you explain only after I overclocked to much and it was unstable
Solution: put into download mode and flash back to total stock with odin and start over. It worked for me. Restoring backup did not work
Sent from my SGH-I717R using Tapatalk
It is a problem with CWM. You should look for and download darkside super wipe. If I were you I would probably flash the stock Odin tar and start fresh. Make sure you install the latest CWM.. I believe beta4. You should not have to reboot your phone after every new app install.
Use the super wipe from in CWM (install from zip) and then use Odin to get back to stock.
You most likely have an older version of the CWM, I don't think anyone has reported any problems with beta 4 and force closing issues.
I have CWM 5.0.2.7 on here. I dont have to restart everytime I install. I was doing it to see if there was a certain app triggering it thats all. Cuz if the phone goes off and reboots to lockscreen thats when the FC happens. It never happens while Im actually in use. First time this happened it was stock clock speed and its happened whether its 1.83 or 1.56 or stock rooted rom. And I had tried both restarting stock att rom with bloat and from my first backup after odin root.
Where do i find beta 4? I originally got this cwm from rootgalaxynote.com
Nevermind I found it I pulled a n00b. Ok Imma give that a try right now I see this is older version so HOPEFULLY thats it. Thanks a bunch Ill check back in after to let you know. Pretty crazy in the back of my mind I felt like CWM was the only thing I didnt check out.
Stuck in firmware upgrade encountered an issue. I cant do anything Odin wont write the stock firmware back on after wipe. What do I do? No cwm or anything phone just boots to telling me to restore with kies?

The version of CWM you were using was most likely for the international Note and therefore incompatible with the Note you have.

Just for Clarification
I too had the TwLauncher issue and tried clearing the Dalvik cache, cache, etc. This then sent me into a boot loop into recovery. (My CWM is the 5.0...version too). Tried the restore, no luck, wipe, no luck etc.
My PC doesn't see the phone, so I need to basically start the root process over again and install the Beta4 CWM. Am I understanding correctly?
I have the same problem and its driving me crazy. Can some one please help me out step by step Im new to this any help would be gratefully appreciated

[Q] Problem restoring via CWM - Data

Hello, I need some help with restoring via CWM on the Galaxy S3.
On the S2 I pretty much always used CM9 and jumped back and forth between versions and backing up/ restoring was never an issue.
Now however I am using the stock ROM and its rooted of course.
I made a back up of my stock rom 'cause I wanted to try and install some stuff.
I tried installing the jelly bean transition effects but the install failed, the device felt kinda sluggish (maybe my imagination) afterwards so I decided to restore my phone. The restoring went good but the last ting that happens is that CWM says that restoring /Data failed.
I reboot my phone and I come to the first start up screen where I get to choose language and so on. Everything but photos has been deleted. I try to install CM9, and I do that without any issues. Then I trie to backup my stock backup but I get the same error message and I get back to stock setup page.
My backup is a staggering 6GB, and I read somewhere that CWM can only restore 2GB?
I've deleted that backup and done another one but that is also 6GB.
Does anyone know how to restore from that first restore or how to make future restores work?

I had this problem with my sisters Xperia X8,couldn't restore anything that i backed up.It goes for a while and stops. But she had bootloader locked.I was shore that i unlocked her bootloader but i didn't,so i unlocked bootloader, and tried to backup and restore and it worked fine.
I'm not 100% and i don't know is that the way CWM works, but i think in order to restore your data, that you backed up,you have to unlock your bootloader. But it's the best to wait someone who knows this for 100% sure.
If you haven't unlocked bootloader try that,or you don't won't to lose your warranty!?
Good luck!
I don't think that CWM has size limitation but i can be wrong.
Have you made sure that your CWM is up-to-date? if in doubt flash the latest CF-root.
was there ever a resolution to this problem? I did the same thing, rooted the galaxy s 3 and unlock the bootloader. Get a backup of my stock set up using clockwork recovery mod. Now when I try to restore, it does not restore the data. All of my apps look like they are there, but none of them are really installed. I think I can just reinstall all of the apps by hand, I would like to know how to get over this.

[Q] Using CWM to recover a gingerbread backup from an ICS rom?

Is this possible? The full details are I had my phone stolen, and got a new one with android 4.0.4 on it. I have on my computer a copy of my latest backup of my old cognition gingerbread rom. Can I just use CWM to recover to my old rom, or do i need to first downgrade to a gingerbread rom, and then recover?
Thankyou very much for assistance
Edit: Also, I don't actually want to use the old rom, I just need the contacts it saved, afterwards I'll wipe everything and install a clean ICS mod. In case there's any way of doing this without having to revert
You'll probably need to restore the backup with a version of CWM close to the one the backup was made with, you can often have problems restoring if you're using a CWM version a lot (say 12 mths or more) newer than the one you made the backup with.
So I'd probably go GB/with a rooted GB kernel first, restore the backup & go from there. I mean, it could work first try with an ICS kernel that's running a recent CWM build, but there's a fair chance it won't.
Edit - And be really careful with stock 4.0.4, don't do a wipe while you're running that.
Wow. I just... wow.
Ok, so I did the stupid thing and just tried to restore my old backup without doing proper downgrading first and it ended up soft bricking my machine, couldn't get recovery mode up, but I got into download mode. So I downloaded my country's stock gingerbread rom from samsung's site and flashed it with odin just to see what happens, and somehow my old rom was working again, and I have all my contacts and data. saved everything up to google, upgraded to ICS, import.
Everything went better than expected.
Thanks for the help
Told you Important thing is you managed to fix it yourself without asking silly questions in Q&A. Not many people seem to be able to do that these days.
Well done. I'm glad you got it sorted
Edit -You're welcome

SGS2 stuck in booting mode after data wipe/factory reset

hey there
i hope my phone is not bricked, but i've been looking now for two hours for a solution and haven't found anything.
I have a rooted GT-9100 with jelly bean 4.1.2 XWLS8 official Samsung Rom.
In the last few days i was having problems with many apps, especially the video player and the gallery app, which wouldn't start because there wasn't enough memory (even after having deleted all the trash files and dumpstate files).
as i had not made a data wipe after updating from xwssl to xwls8 (i rooted afterwards, i didn't want to reconfigure everything again), i wanted to make a backup before i would try the data wipe now.
So i made the backup with my Rom Toolbox pro on the sd card, rebooted the phone to recovery mode, wiped the data and rebooted the phone. as always the starter mode wanted me to select the language, which i did and then suddenly the screen went black.
It started to reboot and since then the phone is hanging in the Samsung Logo.
i've tried to wipe data, wipe cache partition, wipe kalvik, no success.
tried to restore from the backup i made this morning, says md5 mismatches.
what now? any suggestions?
kind regards skapo

Back to ICS stock (not 4.0.4) via Odin (Get one from Samfirmware or AndroidFirmwares.net), that will give you a clean slate & you can go from there.
Edit - Or....Search on here for the md5 mismatch thing with your backup. There's been plenty of threads on here over the past 18 mths or so. Not sure if these methods work all the time (or even at all, I've never had the problem so never had to use them), but you might as well find the threads & see if any of the suggestions for fixes work for you. Could save you doing a clean install of stock & starting again (which will obviously be somewhat time consuming).
thx for the fast reply
why ics? isn't jb stable enough?
is there actually a pure rom like the nexus phone for the s2? i was wondering if the touchwiz from samsung might be responsible for so many problems...

Worry about all that once you get the phone working normally again, this should be the only thing you're thinking about right now. First thing's first
yeah, you're right. i'll give it a shot i'll update this post tonight. thx
UPDATE:
Ok, i've reinstalled a ICS 4.0.3 I9100XXLPS, Buildnumber IML74K.XWLP7 (whatever this may be, where is the guide to the structure of Android and all the definitions, can't find any proper introduction).
It seems to work fine, but i had to wipe data and wipe cache partition, otherwise the phone still got stuck in the boot loop.
So what now? I've tested the root access, which of course isn't available anymore after flashing the ICS Stock ROM.
Do i need to install first a JB ROM with root access to (try to) restore from my backup or can i do it right from here rooting the ICS ROM?
Almost Solved

OK, i think i've got the problem solved:
The first thing i tried is to root the ICS and restore with the CWM. Interesting that this time it didn't give me any md5 mismatch, but it suddenly stopped during the process and the phone booted normally to ICS, in other words the restore didn't work.
So I downloaded the latest SGS2 JB I9100XWLSJ again (i had that one installed before the whole mess), i thought that the one i had installed before may have been corrupted. I flashed the ROM, wiped data, cache and dalvik cache and rooted the phone with Siyah. From there i tried to restore again, but again it stopped because of the md5 mismatch.
At least the new JB ROM booted successfully, which allowed me to access the backup file in the phone's internal sd with my PC.
I edited the nandroid.md5-file with notepad ++ and the md5 calculator. There's a good instruction from here. The folder distribution from the original instruction is a little bit confusing, that's why i've uploaded another one
I recalculated every md5 number for each file in the backup (except the nandroid.md5-file itseld of course and in some cases the .android_secure.img [i didn't have such a file]) and modified the md5 numbers inside the nandroid.md5-file.
That solved my problem  I was able to restore from my backup .
Even so, the video player app is still crashing. I restored my files and all the config, but with it the same problems i had before :crying:
Good work on finding a solution & posting it here, I'm sure it will help someone at some point in the future
Re: the FC's with the video player (which one ?), sounds like restoring it/it's settings is causing you problems. You might want to try clearing data on it first - go into settings/apps/all & select the app, then clear data; and if that doesn't work, uninstall it then do a clean install without restoring the app or settings. If the settings were backed up on ICS & you're currently using JB, that may be the cause of the FC's.

update 5.0 dilema

hey guys
I recently decided to opt in to flashing 5.0 rom on my device, but ive read somwhere (http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s5/general/warning-flashing-bootloader-modem-t3037034) that people are having trouble restoring backed up roms and even going back to NK2 with full odin wipe. I have also read that flashing a custom 5.0 kernel will resolve this issue. Is that true, i want to know by someone with expirience. And also can i flash custom roms while on 5.0 bootloader if i load it with a custom kernel.
IAM NOT planning on taking the OTA update but rather ViSiON-X Rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2797336.
My main concern is being able to flash roms/restoring/backing up, specifically custom roms not touchwiz based and Kitkat.
THANKS IN ADVANCE

I updated via Odin tar file.
About restoring from a nandroid custom recovery backup:
I think/thought I mentioned this in that first thread you linked, but, you cannot in any way restore an old backup onto a new version of android irregardless the device or recovery. Say the system apk, settings apk uses a file named xyz.dat in KitKat, it saves that file to your /data directory. You now go ahead and flash Lollipop which now that same system apk, the settings apk uses a file named yzx.dat, you go and restore your backup restoring the file xyz.dat. Now the settings apk which is a system apk, cannot find this file and runs into a bootloop because not finding the file should never happen but since you went behind its back to remove that file, you confused it majorly.
I use Titanium Backup to restore my apps, best money ever spent.
I personally went back to KitKat, cause, well, I missed xposed more than i thought i would lol. Everything just worked the way I wanted it to with xposed.
I did have to Odin flash a KitKat based ROM in order for it to work though. After that, I restored my full nandroid backup and everything is working again.
My recommendations to you:
1. Take a FULL backup using TWRP or other custom recovery, this includes backing up your system, data, and boot.
2. Flash the Lollipop update using Odin.
3. DO NOT WIPE DATA
4. Reboot.
You should see "android is upgrading" and have a Lollipop build with all your apps still there. i got a few force closes so I ended up wiping my data, but those apps that forced closed were all root apps that were looking for system files that didn't exist anymore.

Yeah I avoided lollipop all together. People seem to be having too many problems with it.I installed NK2 via Odin and now rooted/exposed. Runs smooth and I can flash other Roms.
But I do have this one issue. My auto rotation rodent seem to be working I tried everything I can think of. At first boot it works for 10 minutes or 5 sometimes. Than it shuts down completely. Accelerometer isn't working either. No temple run movement or asphalt 8 (sucks). I did sensor firmwate update and ran samsung diagnostic. The sensor seem to be at 0,0 on x and y axis. At first boot they work fine though. Any help please. I even tried different kernel and software Roms to no Vail. And I don't think it's hardware cause it works for brief moments.

I let the lollipop update happen.. Used the last day and everything seems fine but I can't use Screen mirroring which I use alot.. anyway I downloaded the stock 4.4.2 md5 and odin completely successfully writes it and after it reboots it is stuck at the Tmobile 4gLTE bootscreen.. I've rebooted it and waited a long time.. as well as rewriting. Guess I'll have to download the stock lollipop tar and hope it boots

The 4.4.2 .tar is a "non-wipe" .tar. You need to go into stock recovery and do a factory data reset after flashing.
Did the trick, thanks!
