On final they have updated the news with sonys official statement.
Update: Sony Ericsson has told us that the company has made no official decision to update its 2011 Xperia phones to Android 4.0 – despite the comments from a Sony Ericsson representative at a London press event yesterday. Still, here’s hoping…
Here’s the official statement: “When it comes to future platforms of the Android OS, we will make them available to consumers in a timely manner, as long as they improve the user experience and are viable from a hardware point of view.”
So the jury is out right now, but let’s hope Sony Ericsson comes good (as long as the hardware is capable of it).
Ice Cream Sandwich will make Cyanogenmod worthless in comparison for Xperia Neo, so there will be interest and means to get it on Neo. If not officially then unofficial tweak of released FW for other phone, from source code, or some other way...
I hope sony implements it in neo. The phone is great and a software upgrade it will be much better.
Sorry for my bad english.
If they don't, then more reason to build Cyanogenmod for the Neo.
Sent from my X8
Hardware and software wise the Neo is totally identical to the Arc,and it'll be very surprising if Sony decides to update only the Arc. Given that,I'm pretty sure we shall be served some Ice cream sandwiches
Edit.

I dont' care about Sony's Release of ICS, just beeing afraid of having even more bloatware then.
Hopefully somone else will make a pure clean Build based on AOSP w/o ugly Timescape.
Generally, for ICS I'm eagerly looking forward for many under-the-hood improvements apart from optical polish. Things, Google had missed poorly in the past but were proven to actually work by some Custom Rom cooks. Things like editing a contact' birthday or creating a new calendar w/o using a PC and so on...
I'm more interested in Cyanogenmod 100% working. That way we will get ICS without all the bloatware crap.
A 100% working CM is imho a fancy dream, spoken from my own experience with the Nexus1. Never without anything to mess with, always waiting for the next release that fixes one and creates another bug. That's the problem with early adopting a steady growing system. Apart from those few issues, the features of CM are absolutely fantastic!

Go google for xperia icecream and see the 1st result.
It would be good on the neo.

yea totally, hope can get that update too ^_^
cant wait. go Neo!
even if the update is not offical i am sure we can get the update unofficially on our neos. should be good.
John Cooper, UK Product Manager for Sony Mobile, has been taking questions from customers on Facebook and, perhaps inadvertently, revealed that both the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc S and Xperia mini pro will not receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update.
We have been waiting for Sony to make an official statement on their Jelly Bean upgrade plans and this is the first concrete news we have on the matter. The Xperia arc S was the highest specced 2011 Sony Xperia handset, so if this handset isn’t getting it we can conclude that none of the other Xperia handsets from the 2011 range will get the update either. However, the 2012 Xperia range do look likely to get the update, although timing remains an unknown right now.
Its funny that many of the 2012 Xperia handsets have lower specs than the 2011 models. It sux! anw, we can hope for a developer to port JB for 2011 Xperia lineup. & Cynomod10 is coming with JB
Credit goes to www.xperiablog.net
http://www.xperiablog.net/2012/07/26/official-2011-sony-xperia-handsets-will-not-get-android-4-1-jelly-bean/
They have made a mistake
Xperia 2011 handets should have had that minor upgrade to Jelly Bean, especially given the performance issues. Also, it means those handsets are stuck permanently on 2.6 Linux kernel, unless one goes the custom ROMs way. Thankfully, Cyanogenmod devs are supporting Xperia Mini Pro, so I am starting on a quest to root my SK17i.
Jelly Bean would be slow on our phones if official update was done. Sony will push own Timescape UI inside instead of Butter UI, so we don't get any performance improvements in UI.
It's a shame, but it was expected...
Yeah, i also expect 2012 xperias will probably get Jelly Bean update around this time next year (+/- couple months), just before Key Lime Pie comes out

I wonder....
does anyone remember Xperia x10i? the funniest was they came from Donut 1.6 to GingerBread 2.3. they've got 3 official FW update.. and me guess we still have a chance.. Our device is not low range since we have 512 ram inside. and some of Xperia 2012 family also have the same type.
I was expecting this. They won't update 2011 xperia phones to JB. But they will update 2012 xperias. If I buy another phone, it won't be a Sony. Maybe a Nexus 7 but not a Sony. I was very disappointed with the ICS update. Can't imagine a JB for our phones, maybe to slow...
Long live to Gingerbread! xD

I dont't think Timescape has anything to do with Butter
Anyway, I'm not surprised, but they could change their minds if community presses them enough. As I remember, HTC upgraded Desire to GB even though they said phone was underpowered (for sense bloatware).
I smell some "business politic" here from sony.

The thing is that to be able to create stable custom roms you need support from the manufacturer. Without proper source code or hardware drivers/libraries that suit the new OS developers have to tack everything together which greatly increases the chances of bugs.
IMHO the least thing Sony could do is provide a proper hardware layer to developers to give them a solid base to work from. Nobody really needs the Sony customisations anyway so they could actually save a lot of development time there.
Personally I'd wish all android phones came with AOSP, like what Apple and Microsoft do. It saves the manufacturers a lot of development and opens the way for more frequent/longer OS updates.
All hope of custom rom
**** Sony, where's Ericsson when we need him?

Correct.
Nicely Explained Brother:good:
Here is example!
1.Bravia Engine wont work without proper supported lib files
2.Same will happen with xLoud
But we can force SONY to give us JB update
If majority of all the customers keep on telling them about the update for 2011 Family, after all customers are the only strength of any COMPANY
What say guys?
Yeah yeah yeah! As what I have expected from SONY!
Come on guys! This isnt the first time so stop relying on this b*llsh*t company. We have the developers here and they are even better than those "INCOMPETENT" developers from Sony.
So stop crying over spilled milk and just wait for JB port to our devices :good:

I don't know why people keel slagging off Sony as a company?
Personally I buy an SE phone for the hardware (who else makes a tiny phone with a useable hardware keyboard?) while knowing you can optimise the thing to personal taste by modding the firmware and using apps.
As for updates the Mini Pro got 200% of what it's predecessor got (the X10 Mini Pro which only got Eclair).

very sad news for xperia 2011 series, but im now testing CyanogenMod10 Alpha rom in lww but its have lot of bugs hope it will fix soon

Don't you get it.Sony's main target is to make money. This is a business after all.Besides 2011 models are outdated now,be happy that they gave us a stable ICS fw(unlike lg,samsung even htc who abandoned most of their 2011 mid end lineups in ICS update).Their main target must be improving and selling more 2012 series and upcoming 2013 xperia models and that's what Sony should target on if they ever want to be a giant in smart phone business-not updating every 2011 model !
Man I was really Hopping for JB
Well, When JB comes to any Xperia hopefully our Friendly Developers in Xda will port it in our device ^_^
i'am not surprised at all ! cost saving is essential for a business
anyway i use the official ROM cuz i get the clearbass and some Sony apps
once a JB ROM has those features ported i'll jump straight to it XD

It's nothing new...Sony must focus on 2012 and the upcoming 2013 Xperia series. However,i'm happy with stock rom (debloated),few mods and apps from Xperia T and 587 fw. It's very smooth and i always have 150-160 mb of free RAM. I've tried CM10 and PACMAN roms, they're very good, but i hate the fact that phone is rebooting when view videos and also i miss the Bravia Engine, because, let's be honest, without Bravia Engine, the Xperias display sucks when viewing videos (at least for me).But the explanation from Sony why the 2011 series is not getting JB,is hilarious (i mean let's compare the Arc S with Xperia J :laugh. However,i think that next year i'll change my Neo with an Xperia V.

I didn't removed everything,i've removed just few useless apps (i've kept fb inside xperia). Beside this,i'm not using the phone for gaming,so,for me is more than enough. And you have 200 mb all the time,or just when you turn on the phone? i have 150-160 all the time. However, before debloating i was having just about 90-100 mb lol
As for me I will move to Apple. Not because their updates to all phones, but because the app devs in android will left many of us. Jelly Bean ask for 60 fps, most of the biggest devs, are working to reach this level. Then, after a few months I will be not suprise with I see an app exclusively for JB. One thing in my defense to move to Apple, Chrome. Chrome is a google app, in IOS even a 3GS can get it. But Here at least ICS. Another example? Snapssed. Snapseed bought by Google, wonderfull app, it works in 3GS, 4, 4S and 5, but for us, it needs at least tegra 2. So, I am leaving, it was good and wonderfull time here with everybody, but I got stressed about it. Every year, this same story and I did not learn. Always buying android phones, and now I found me exactly in the same disgusting situation. I will not try to use custom roms, though I know how to put it in my phone, because even the great effort , they are still buggy. I am not arguing, but it is the truth. Many will say that ICS is enough for me, yes, until now is more than enough. But knowing how android is, soon will be not enough.
So friends I will stay here until sell my Xperia Neo and buy an Iphone 4. After that Goodbye.

with all due respect but I do not think we should rejoice because both have almost the entire line 2011 with ics, I see the hand of everyone being equal in hardware. but for me it's the least we would have to be done to win customers since bought by the promise of neo v ics, however icebug got a way with ginger. because it gave us the applications "nxt"? if not for the developers .... Samsung has updated the s2 was minimal upgrade at least the arc / s

y beg sony , lets go with cm 10
We got insider information from our sources in Sony Mobile Communications that the Sony Xperia Sola and Xperia U will get the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update despite Sony’s blog post from yesterday where there was no mention of them. We tell you more on the update schedule.
Sony Xperia 2012 Lineup Jelly Bean Upgrade
The Sony Xperia S was released as Sony’s flagship smartphone for early 2012. Packing a Snapdragon S3 chipset, the phone lagged behind competition which had already moved on to the faster Snapdragon S4 chipsets as well as the quad core nVidia Tegra 3 processors. However, the Xperia S held it’s own thanks to the brilliant 4.3″ HD Reality Display, the refreshing new design and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich themed by Sony’s improved Timescape UI, not to mention the 13 MP camera sensor at the back made the Xperia S quite popular among smartphone buyers.
Sony Xperia T/TX/V: The newest flagship Android smartphones from Sony, the Xperia T, TX and V pack the latest Snapdragon S4 chipset, HD displays and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to boot. These new models pack an improved design, which according to Sony has been designed keeping in mind how people use their smartphones in their daily life. These new phones back a sexy curved back, a new front design as well. The overall effect is that it leaves a person wanting that smartphone more and more. Job well done Sony. The Sony Xperia T/TX /V smartphones are scheduled to receive their Jelly Bean update by mid Q1 2013 (mid February).
The Sony Xperia S/Acro S/Ion smartphones are scheduled to receive their Jelly Bean update by end of October/early November 2012.
Sony Xperia P/U/Sola/Go: The remainder of the Xperia 2012 models also packed the same class and design as the Xperia S. The Xperia P and Xperia U have been a humongous success among the youth. Being light, sexy and fast, these smartphones have become a common sight these days. The Xperia Sola came in later with features like Floating Touch (use the display without even touching it) and the sturdy Xperia Go was introduced shortly after. The Xperia P received it’s ICS update about 2 months ago, while the U/Sola/Go had to wait till beginning of October to receive their updates.
The Sony Xperia P/U/Sola/Go smartphones are scheduled to receive their Jelly Bean update by early December 2012.
Well, that’s all the info we have for now. We can only pray all of our sources information is true and all these smartphones indeed receive their Jelly Bean updates, else Sony would be in line to lose some more customer loyalty.
And Now We Should Wait For Information From Sony Mobile!

I wouldn't doubt it.
Sony is pushing our phones down the trash can and there's nothing we can do except for boycotting their brand and relying on 3rd party developers to keep our phones up to date.
Even the ICS update was painfully half-assed. The most ironic move: the Live With Walkman didnt even get the Walkman player on ICS.
WHAT THE HELL!!
It's just a rumor guys...
And a company has its market strategies...
Sony split up from Ericsson... And has started from base after then...
You simply can't expect them to update old phones to the latest of Android... When they got a complete new brand chain to concentrate at...
Though they should have updated Arc and ArcS (being high end phones)
But updating JB to entry level droids isn't beneficial for them. Our phones are entry level smartphones for a reason.
PREDATOR95 ->->->->a.k.a. ->-> predatOr
If the "slipt-up" from Ericsson frees Sony from any responsability, then why did they even bother to upgrade the 2011 handsets (except for xplay) to ICS? One point down.
So this is their strategy, their modus operandi, and they won't be changing anytime soon huh? Then why would we, as consumers, support their crappy way of treating their own customers?
I, for one, am willing to boycott Sony for this. I expected better value for my money. It's not like there are no alternatives in the market.
And yes, it's a rumor, but a very plausible one, considering the XJ already got it's piece of cake. All we got left to do is thank sony for spitting on us.

That's upon you... If you like them or not as a consumer...
Sony never promised of updating 2011 with JB
Value for money you say... In 11K (rupees) ... The price range of Xperia mdpi aren't you getting value for money...
1Ghz chipset, HD camera, BE, and all other awesome stuff
And on top of it you want JB... there's no end to man's greed
Tell me any other smartphone in the range which has such great specifications...
Which other company provided JB update in entry level droids...?
You want superb hardware along with regular stable software updates like the Nexus,
Here's an advice... Spend some bucks...
Not releasing JB for Arc/ArcS is unjustified and cruel...
But for Xperia mdpi... Its just asking too much...
PREDATOR95 ->->->->a.k.a. ->-> predatOr
Oh wow, now I'm the bad guy, the greedy, the unsatisfied spoiled brat.
Think about it, dude, the Arc S has the exact same chipset as it's MDPI siblings. Upgrading the Arc S and not the little ones would be worse IMO.
Also, please stop dissing our MDPI Xperias, we're not less deserving than anyone.
Thank you.

hahah that's silly, tipo with 800mhz processor want to run in jb.
compare it to xperia 2011 which mostly got 1Ghz, that's will be more awesomer than that tipo. Tipo doesn't deserve to get the jb update!
Hey guys come on,cool down!! We will get JB. There's Cyanogenmod and lots of good brains here to port great features and all to MDPI. Who needs Sony JB man? I bet (and I wish 4m my heart) that those JB updates for 2012 devices may hav bugs too, like we hav in stock ics. All those bloatwares and all..admit it,even if we had got jb,we wud hav modded, unlockd and get bored of it at certain point. We hav CM ..which is gonna giv us a stable update soon as we see 4m their progress. MIUI v5 has also been ported to Xperia Play..so we can even xpect that smday. There r lots of flavors for us guys.. Ofcourse it'd b great to hav sony jb as base or mayb the media apps..but let's accept, it'd hav bugs. So, thank you Sony for only one thing, the awesome devices of us. And for the upgrades and updates, it's ok..we don't care.

I think we got great value for money on the hardware itself. I don't see the specs on any 2011 phones for this much money. And our dev section is fully packed, so I don't care much about the jb update. Only downside is those with locked bootloader can't enjoy it.
But still considering that tipo has lower spec than ours, I think tipo getting jb and us not getting it is unfair( I am not complaining though).

The 2011 lineup is more similar to the nexus one (yaffs2+ kernel 2.6.x ).Our phones are equipped with raw nand flash.
The 2012 lineup is more similar to nexus S and GNexus (ext4 + kernel 3.0.x).they have emmc based nand flash which allows hardware wear levelling.
Mostly gb was introduced with nexus s and the android archi was modified with it (with assumptions that future Android devices will ship with emmc with hw wear levelling )...android OS upgrades is updated/designed w.r.t to the newest nexus devices .
So technically we are three generations down .
Plus Sony is running two update cycles already ....one for gb and one for ics....
Plus 90 % don't care which OS is running as long as it is running
Xperia 2011 devices may be the only raw nand based device who have the official ICS update...
If operating system is a must
Get a nexus.
Its not a "slap" or whatever . Its reality. Its not feasible economically and technically to spend resources on a 2 year old lineup with hardware constraints of a three year old hardware .
If anything, complain to Google for not providing ics/jb/kernel 3.x to nexus one...might have been easier to work for Sony devs

I think we got great value for money on the hardware itself. I don't see the specs on any 2011 phones for this much money. And our dev section is fully packed, so I don't care much about the jb update. Only downside is those with locked bootloader can't enjoy it.

Well, I do care. An offical JB release would finally bring us what's missing from FXPs CM10: new 3.x kernel and new camera drivers/blobs. Remember how FXP's CM9 improved when the official ICS came out? Now imagine that happening to CM10. I'm not saying it's bad, but it could be much better.
I should know, I run CM10 as a daily driver on my XMP.

I've always wanted to hear this from Sony itself: they sold us old, non-future-proof hardware and got away with it.
I agree with mnishamk to some extent. Yes, we did get quite a bang for the buck, but now I'm starting to seel sorry for those who bought the "flagships" back in the day (Arc S, Play, and the like).
Thanks for shedding some light on this though, it's always good to know
Come on.Just the same reactions all over again.I remember when I used to have an X8 people were mad about not getting official ICS.Now its the same with 2011 xPERIAs and JB.If Sony's update policy isn't clear to you by now I don't think it's their problem. As for CM10 I still think it's great but nowhere near the stock ICS firmware as far as bugs and everyday stability is concerned.

I doubt they got away with it.
I think xperia 2011 was a brilliant move by Sony !
Let's take a look at facts periodically.
November 2010 nexus S was released with gb
People were sad that it didn't ship with a card slot .
Sony must be deciding at the chipset
Android 3.0 was a tablet os so it wasn't taken in consideration.
Gb ran smoothly on nexus one and dual core proc. was an overkill .
They must have decided to keep hw as similar to the nexi so they can upgrade smoothly.
Nexus one was better option since it had sd card support.
So they kept one chipset for all phones and focused on other features like camera, design and others ...
In april they released the lineup and it was best bang for buck for mid end .
Latest os ,good camera, awesome music, good design and so on..
In november google trolled n1 users (and xperia 2011 users) by cutting them of the upgrade cycle...
Here is where sony got hit...they had to release the ics update to prevent backlash from high end users even if it was not feasible.
Since the chipset is same ,we got update likewise...
And sony earned a lot of brownie points
Now here is the funny part ..
Samsung galaxy S is similar to nexus s yet they didn't provide with the ICS update
The xperia are one generation down similar to nexus one and yet we received the ics update which is overkill
Sony just got trolled by google
I bet we would have got kernel 3.x if n1 had ics update but sadly it isn't so.

Huawei comparison with Sony...
You can get specs in Micromax too then buddy... But these companies don't stand alongside Sony.
