Every reboot needs a fastboot - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Hey, I'm not sure where to post this but I am running ur evo 4G 6 rom and every time I reboot or shut down the phone, in order to get it working again I need to do a fast boot otherwise it shows nothing but a black screen on boot. I'm kind of new to this so I'm not sure what other information is needed. I am s-on if that helps anyone

Do you have a link to the Rom? Not sure which one you're taking about ... Also, this should be in the q&a section.

Are you doing a "fastboot boot" or "fastboot flash"? You need to be doing "fastboot flash boot boot.img".

I am doing fastboot boot boot.img ooh alright. Thanks I'll try when I get home!

[Q] Communications with phone unexpectedly interrupted [Resolved]

After trying to use Revolutionary to root my phone, it rebooted to fastboot twice and gave me the error "Communications with phone unexpectedly interrupted" and said "Press (almost) any key to exit..." so I just pressed enter and rebooted the phone from the fastboot menu. The reboot was successful.
Should I try running revolutionary again or am I doing something wrong?
I didn't do temp root + factory reset if that matters but the guide said it wasn't required.
EDIT: Although I got those errors, it gave me S-OFF and allowed me to flash the files needed to root. Looks the issue was resolved. Thanks for your help!

I tried it again and it got the same issue. It rebooted into fastboot once, rebooted into fastboot again and gave me the same error. This time, I booted it up and it did the hands-free activation on my phone. Did it successfully S-OFF?
I also read that I have to disable any antiviruses I have. I don't know how to disable McAfee, but could that potentially be interfering with the process?
it may have! you can check if its s-off by rebooting into the bootloader and looking at the top of the screen.

Alright, I just unchecked it from the power settings. I don't think it should matter since it still boots into fastboot. Is that an official part of the guide?
I'm running it and hoping for the best.
EDIT: It still gave me the error, but I have S-OFF and it says -revolutionary- at the top. Does this mean I can continue to flash TWRP?
EDIT: I flashed the PG86IMG-TWRP zip. It worked.
EDIT: I flashed the Super User zip and I have super user now. I guess the rooting was successful. Thanks shaanwarrior! I can piss now...
well if you uncheck it you can get into the bootloader easy. just press and hold the volume down button for about 3 secs and then press and hold the power button. keep holding on to both then u'll see the bootloader!

The thing about rebooting into bootloader is that I can't turn on my phone after turning it off with fastboot off until I take out the battery and put it back in. I will just download the fastboot app to boot into bootloader, recovery, etc.

I also remember reading a thread about somebody saying their friend had a problem that was this. (or similar? can't remember.)
I have this same issue, I have tried multiple computers, with and without the SD card in the phone, with and without the fastboot box checked, I have 2 EVO 3Ds, both with 1.40.000 and this method worked for one but not the other, any ideas?
Thanks for this post! I had an issue with my root on a different device... but it turned out what you did wrong is the same exact thing I did wrong.

Try reflashing Clockwork recovery by following the instructions in this thread. It sounds like your recovery got screwed up or wiped out somehow. Use version 5.0.2.1. I think the version 5 issues are fixed in that one. If you still have issues try using one of the version 4.x ones.

he says that because you obviously havent done enough research to know what fastboot is or what it does.
my suggestion is to READ EVERY SINGLE POST OF EVERY STICKY IN THE GENERAL & DEV SECTIONS
that will be a start
We'll I had fastboot as a built in option on my htc inspire is that the same type just were your phone boots faster?

i think you're thinking about something different, fastboot on the Moto Atrix allows you to edit partitions on your phone. you can flash images over the partitions such as Recovery, which makes it really easy to flash custom files onto our phone.
i wouldn't mess with it too much if you don't know what you're doing, like already mentioned in the thread you should try reading all the stickies in the general/dev forum.
then read them again, and maybe a third time just to be safe!

no fastboot is an application run through a command line on the computer that allows you to manually flash partitions onto your phone. it also allows you to unlock the bootloader (provided the right steps are followed)
there is an option at boot for the atrix called fastboot BUT it just gets the phone ready to accept commands from the computer
Oh well I've already done this when I rooted my ATRIX, so is there a way for literal fast booting

the boot time depends on a lot of things, if you want a ROM that boots lightning fast i'd just go with CM7. i've tried pretty much every ROM in the dev forum, and it still impresses me how fast CM7 boots up. i've had my phone go from completely turned off to fully functional in less than 30 seconds with CM7, it's beast mode.

Booting into recovery?

My buddy screwed up in flashing his Rezound. Flashed something in recovery rather than bootlader. He is going to bring me his phone to try to fix so I was wondering what is the hard key press combination to get the phone to boot straight into recovery?

To get into the bootloader (which will then allow you to select recovery) do a battery pull, put it back in, then hold down the down volume button while pressing the power button until it boots up.
Oh, and Wreck 'Em!
You can't flash a bootloader file in recovery?
Maybe you should ask your friend to be more clear

Class of '05. txkorm is in this forum also and is also an Alum.
EDIT: Also, flashing a wake on volume should work in recovery for ICS. Not sure what happened with his.
There's no reason the recovery should be gone, just give him the steps to do a restore and he should be fine.
Got to fix his problem. He had a phgm type file on the root of his SD card that was keeping him from booting into recovery. Haha. He was freaked out.
Btw class of '93 here.

Need some help with my bricked Flyer.

Okay so here's the deal. I was attempting to add some tweaks to file systems (system, devlog, and cache). I flashed my ROM with the tweaks included and then powered off from recovery because I had to pick a friend up from work. I came home and when I turned my flyer on it just booted to a black screen. So I tried rebooting into bootloader and recovery through adb and they both rebooted to this same black screen. No htc splash or anything.
Things I have tried:
Re-flashing recovery
Running RUU's
Re-flashing bootloader
Flashing zips through fastboot from Globatron's HC upgrade thread
Letting it die and trying again
Pretty much everything I can think of
When I flash any zip through fastboot, it says something like "Failed: remote id".
When i run any RUU, it says either that the battery is too low (which I know it isn't because I've charged overnight) or that it can't continue because there is a model ID error. I've tried using RUUs from the 3g flyer, wifi flyer, and US wifi flyer (I own the US wifi version) and they all say the same thing.
I still have adb and fastboot access, so I'm confident that this is fixable, but it is beyond my knowledge now and I need your help! So please if you have any suggestions, throw them out here! Let me know if more details are needed.
I tried looking at other "my Flyer is bricked" threads but none seemed to help my current situation.
Figures I was going to start working on my ROM again and this happens
Maybe
Fastboot erase cache
Almost sounds like you are in download mode. I have read in a couple threads allong the way of people finding themselves there but struggling to get out
Yeah I've tried that already with no avail. It's so weird. But how would've this triggered download mode?
yea I am not sure, nor am I sure my idea holds any water since you have allowed your flyer to completely drain. I believe that once you did that and it charged enough to power on you would be out of download mode. I think. when you do an adb reboot or fatboot reboot recovery it does appear like your flyer is rebooting? I know the end result is a black screen, but is it seamingly turning off then on again?
Well when I reboot it just sits at the black screen and vibrates once. It might go dark for a second but I would have to check again, and it is charging right now.
I don't like bumping threads, but I'm pretty desperate here. I tried fooling around with it some more and I still have nothing. Any input at all would be appreciated

Well that's the thing, I'm never really in the botloader. I'm at a black screen no matter what I do however I can still use fast boot and adb. I might try that when it charges again.
Whenever I try to flash a zip through fast boot it says "failed remote id not allowed"
I'm thinking maybe it has something to do with the boot loader but I really haven't got a clue. When I type fast boot getvar all it says that I'm still s-off.
I even tried changing my main version to no avail.

Yeah it sucks but I've found stuff on mobile devices tend to just up and die without warning, I guess your best bet is HTC support. I know someone on here had a bad charging jack and wasn't able to revert to stock and they still honored his warranty and fixed his flyer
