[Q] Need instructions on how to boot evo view to recovery? - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

Hi I need some serious help here. I upgraded my evo view that i bought used to Honeycomb. Thinking it would be better. Found out that it absolutely sucks! I am trying to roll back to GB. I already unlocked it by using the HTC DEV Unlock tool successfully. Instructions in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1414137 says to flash a img. But it does not give me instructions on how to flash? Im pretty new and Ive scoured the web and have found instructions on flashing other htc phones but havent had any luck in finding one for the view. Can someone help? Please Thanks!!

anyone????

You're trying to do step 4, flashing recovery thru fastboot, right?
Haven't used fastboot in a while, and not at my home computer (where I have it setup for fastboot already). But from what I can remember:
1) You need the fastboot tool/drivers. The one here should work (under "Required downloads"): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1428104
I can't look at that download right now (my work internet is blocking that download site). But if its a zip, you need to unzip the contents.
2) Place the fastboot files in their own folder someplace. I usually just make a new folder in the C:\ drive parent directory for easy navigating in the next step.
3) Place the recovery image you want to flash in the same folder as the fastboot files.
4) Connect your View to the PC using USB. Reboot the View into bootloader. Select "fastboot" in the bootloader screen.
5) Open command prompt (On Windows: Start>All Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt). Change directory to the folder where you put the fastboot files.
6) Type the command into the command prompt as given in the guide you linked: fastboot flash recovery cwm-4.0.1.4-express-HC.img

[Q] cant seem to go back to stock htc amaze

Before anyone says anything, I have tried the Q&A and that link is broken; I also did some research but most suggest to install a the stock rom they provided. That's fine and all except i cant seem to get into recovery anymore.
That's what is weird. I used to be able to go in there since i flashed the energy rom and had it for like 2 days. (i decided to just go back to stock and install skins and themes provided here)
I'm S-on. Cant seem to flash any kernels or recoverys with the all_in_one_kit. Any ideas on getting my recovery back?
I also going to try (once I do get recovery working) to go back to stock using these links i found. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1611789
and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1443052 . not sure if they will work though.
Similar issue. I can't revert back to stock Gingerbread ROM anymore after upgrading to stock ICS.
yehhh. apperantly no one knows how to get recovery back... i cant flash it either >_>
I lost my recovery when I first tried to load ARHD before realizing that it needed the ICS Hboot and radios. The only way I was able to recover things was to use the All-In-One utility to relock my bootloader and then load the stock gingerbread RUU onto the SD card as PH85IMG.zip. Only then would the bootloader recognize the rom and reflashed everything (system, recovery, etc). Then I was able to unlock the bootloader again and put a custom recovery on and flash to my hearts content.
As long as you have access to bootloader its hard to never be able to go back a few steps. You should be able to do the same, and even flash your old nandroids once you have recovery working again. Though I might suggest just starting fresh to be on the safe side.

thanks for the advice. mind helping me find the stock gingerbread? I tried using an 8 easy steps to going back to stock (cant put link up) but cmd still shows "device not found" even tho it does do something lol. Still no recovery :/. I also was looking for stock roms but cant seem to find any that are proved to work. I just want the phone rooted with stock rom.
P.S that image verification thing is annoying
found solution. Cant link to thread but find the post "how to unroot the amaze and do what the guy named jmhalder posted.

You probably shouldn't be doing this stuff to your phone without understanding what you're doing.
You have to navigate to the right folder.. I.e. "cd C:\Android\platform-tools" is where I have the OEM_lock on my laptop so I go to that directory. It may be a different location for your setup

You dont have to do that. Just boot into bootloader and go to the fastboot (or something like that) It will read any PH85IMG.zip file there all on its own. Just let it do its thing and click yes to run update and you are set
**put the file in your sd card! lol just in case you didn't
Shaaabaaaaam!
Thank you!
I got issues trying it this way. I got main version older error, which I was able to search and resolve, but now I get hboot version older error.
I'm s-on.

[Q] Can't find fastboot???

I'm trying to root my HTC Flyer with HBOOT 1.11.0011, and one of the steps is that I must place some folders in my fastboot directory. WHERE DO I FIND MY FASTBOOT DIRECTORY? Sorry... frustrated and I feel like a noob...

NO problem, I'm assuming you are following the other thread "[TUT] Rooting HTC Flyer on HoneyComb HBoot 1.11.0011" that helped me acheive the same yesterday. The fastboot directory - its the directory on your hard drive where you copy fastboot.exe to (from the Android developer install that you have to do), that directory can be anywhere you like on your PC (you can put them all in C:\fastboot if you want). Having completed the process I have the following files in it :
- fastboot.exe
- AdbWinApi.dll
- adb.exe
- recovery.img
- Unlock_code.bin
Hope this helps. I'm no expert, I rooted one phone previously, ask anything else you need to.

I've made progress...ish
Okay so I figured out the fastboot thing. Problem is, I don't know which CWM I should be using, and if it is necessary to have S-OFF. Currently I'm S-On, and I have CWM 6. Every time I install a ROM I just get BSOD, and can't boot. But at least I'm rooted... Any help would be greatly appreciated :fingers-crossed:

Are you following the steps in the "[TUT] Rooting HTC Flyer on HoneyComb HBoot 1.11.0011" thread, how far did you get ? From the list above I see you haven't got the Unlock_code.bin from HTC yet.
A little more info is needed. Be assured its possible with these instructions, I followed them myself and I'm very new at this !

Can't Root or Install Openrecovery in HBOOT 2.09

Okay, so I got hboot 2.09 unlocked. I then proceeded to follow QBKing77 instructions for rooting and installing openrecovery. I downloaded the root files from the link he provides. When I type in "fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.0-jewel.img" and hit enter, it tells me error: cannot load fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.0-jewel.img,: Unkown Error. Can anyone offer any suggestions here? Thanks.

Yes I actually went back through the entire process, and checked the path to make sure it was installed correctly. Rebooted the computer and the phone, but still getting unknown error message.
try this open your sdk folder and press shift and right click platform tools and select open cmd window here
that will put you in a writeable folder
Unfortunately I do not get that option. Running windows XP.
hmmmm
is the .img file in your platform tools folder?
drivers installed?
does your pc recognize your phone when you plug the USB in?

Worked for me. and I'm hboot 2.09 also. I don't have windows xp but when I open the sdk directory. hold shift and right click I get a prompt saying "open command window here" I then issue the fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.3.3.0-jewel.img command. it flashes just fine. I think you're missing a step or two.
Please take a look at my thread on rooting/superuser/TWRP installs. It's a pretty good guide. I tried to take the mystery out of this process.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2038123
I am having issues rooting via qbking77's method on Youtube.
I'm stuck at the 5:42 mark where I need to mount USB storage via Teamwin / TWRP recovery.
The 'Mount Cache/Mount SD Card/Mount Internal' aren't' checked on my phone and I can't check them manually. When I click on 'Mount USB Storage'. My computer pops up a message telling me that 'You need to format the disk drive in F:before you can use it. I'm not sure what to do next.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
Thanks this forum helped me find my problem while following qbking77 video on how to root. I realized after quite a few tries that the twrp img file had changed a bit since the video was posted. When bigdaddy619 check for file I found file to be openrecovery to have some different numbers.
Also the actual root file towards the end of the video name/version had changed also. Little details make a big difference.
Im having an issue trying to install openrecovery as well. Ive followed all of qbking77's instructions in the videos. Im running HBOOT 2.09 which is already unlocked. I have SDK tools and everything as well. When i get to the step to install openrecovery, I go to the folder containing the file and shift+right click and open a cmd window. This is what I get:
C:\Users\Jeremy\Desktop\Root_HTC_EVO_LTE>fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-tw
rp-2.5.5.0-jewel.img
< waiting for device >
sending 'recovery' (8196 KB)...
And thats it. It locks up and doesn't go any further. I've tried several times and retraced my steps through the whole install procedure with the same result. Can you fellas help me out?

Anyone else have any ideas? I've rooted this phone before in the past and never had a problem unlocking and rooting or unrooting and relocking so this is most peculiar. I've tried qbking77's method, i've also tried other tutorials out there as well as attempting to use other versions of openrecovery but it just won't root.......

Try uninstalling everything HTC from your PC
reboot PC and device
re-install drivers including HTC Sync(you can delete it afterwards and the drivers will remain)
plug in your device via usb cable it should install the drivers again also boot into the bootloader drivers should install again
You should be good to go now

help fixing my one + please

okay here is the story:
my freind bought a htc one x plus and it was working perfect till he reset the phone.
it now hangs on the " quietly brilliant screen" and does nothing else.
im not a novice on phones but would like some clarity on a fix.
i can confirm i can get the phone into bootloader mode and the below list appears i am unsure if the previous owner had installed a custom rom.
fastboot recovery
factory reset
simlock
show barcode
image crc
can some one give me some advice what a possible fix maybe i have been away from the scene for a while to due to illness
and are a bit rusty.
any help in plain simple terms would be most helpful thank you.
is it rooted?
if yes
install custom recovery
sideload a rom onto it
flash the correct kernel for it in bootloader (the mode your in right now)
if it's not rooted
find the correct RUU for it
he says its a sim free model so is there a european or uk sim free ruu u could point me to.
and how do i check its rooted ?
thanks
In hboot it will say unlocked..
I'm on the phone right now Google androidfiles ruu. Select enrc2b. Once you have it put the phone into boot loader and run it. Make sure you get one that = or > than the current hboot version

sorry not been lazy just carnt find a download to latest rom i need can u help thnks
go to bootloader choose fastboot and check what cid it is ("fastboot getvar cid")
we need to know cid to be sure which ruu u need
if it's unlocked you can easily use toolbox from this forum to flash a custom recovery and then flash a working rom.
there are also some threads in here which describe how to go back to stock rom, if you really prefere that
here are some useful links for you:

can i flash a custom rom ?
if so can some 1 suggest a good one please
also can i just flash the rom directly or do i need the boot, img file also bit confused lol
yes just flash ANY International rom right now...please don't go asking "which rom is the best" it's all personal pref. just grab a rom flash the boot.img and tada
ok thanks for all your help
just one slight problem
when im plugging phone into usb its coming up htc mpt device
but nothing opens for me to transfer files to
in my computer device manager device is there but drivers are not installed how do i fix this thanks ?
this a nightmare any one help ?
It's a nightmare because your not taking time to think. You have to sideload the rom from recovery. Take a deep breath and learn to use the the search function of this forum. Search adb sideload. ALL of the information and more exist here. Just take it.

just pmed you but to point you into the right direction: it's the spaces in the path to the file...
just move the files you want to flash or sideload to a simpler path lik C:\Roms\ or something like that to avoid any errors. maybe a subfolder within the toolkit-folder.
also look exactly at the path of your adb folder. it must not have spaces.

How do i do that and im new so i dont really understand alot but itrecognizes it when i do "adb devices" but not "fastboot devices"
Can you give me a link to how you unlocked and rooted your rezound please? up to date
I would start here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37515020&postcount=444
That'll give you an overview of what you will need to do to get a custom ROM on there. Also, there's a folder attached there that has what you need to use fastboot.
If you don't have your unlock token from HTC yet, go here:
http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/
Here's a guide to unlocking:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416109&highlight=unlock
There's a link to "One Click Root" at the bottom but I don't know if that's current. I've never used it. You can just flash Amon Ra after unlocking. Get it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1339679
Just download v3.16. Don't worry about the attached files. Just grab it from the v3.16 link right above the attachments. Put that in the same folder you're using for flashing and type this:
fastboot flash recovery {nameofrecovery}
Then navigate in there to developer section and root.
Then make a nandroid immediately and append it with "_stock" so you always have it to go back to.
Now you are ready to flash a custom ROM.
Since you are s-on you will need to flash the kernel from the ROM after you flash the ROM. Some ROMs create one on your sd card in which case you will probably end up at the bootloader with it asking if you want to update, say yes. If not, you need to pull it from the ROM, put it in the "android" folder and flash in fastboot. I would pull it out ahead of time in case so you're ready.
fastboot flash boot boot.img (or whatever the name of the kernel is)
