I had that issue when I attempted to use my Dell Streak 5 mic-headphones. I plugged them in and the Note did not register the headphones at all when I played music. I rebooted the Note with the phones plugged in one time and now they work fine every time they are plugged in. Hope this helps.
Cheers!

Headphone jack issue

For some reason when I connect any 3.5mm aux cable to my S3, the sound goes extremely tinny and the volume is pretty low. It sounds as if I were listening to a pair of headphones from far away.
The only "solution" to the problem is restarting the phone, then the audio returns to normal.
I'd like to be able to use my S3 as the audio source in my car but I can't stand having to plug in the aux cable then restart the phone in order to make things work. I've tried reconnecting the cable numerous times to see if that would help with no luck. I've tried using different cables but that didnt work. The only thing that works is restarting the phone. I've even tried playing with the EQ.
Any ideas? Too late to return the phone.
Have you tried a different cable?

My guess is that it wouldn't be the cable if restarting the phone is the only thing that works.
If restarting works, that's a good sign, as it means it's likely a fixable software issue. I'd suggest flashing a different kernel or ROM.

Yeah, when I realized it's probably a software issure I was a bit relieved but I don't want to switch ROMs at the moment so it seems I'm stuck with the problem.
From what you report it sounds like the same effect you have when plugging a single-connector-headset into a normal 3.5 jack.
So my guess is that, for whatever reason the device decides that your AUX cable is in fact a headset with microphone and attempts to use it that way, leading to incorrect output.

[Q] Speaker Doesnt work Headphones do

Hi guys
Lately my prime is acting up, yesterday sound worked half and then not, and a reboot and then it worked again...
now today, i wanted to try listen to some music on it ( speaker), and it doesnt work at all, even at restart, cold boot.
none seem to work.
But when i plug in my headset, the sound comes out normally out of it...
Do you think the speaker is broken? or do you have perhaps another option for me to try?
Thnx in advance.

GS3 earpiece and headphone jack no longer working?

All of a sudden during a phone call the voice in the earpiece became demonic so I think I did a hard reset, since, no sound. Until it started working again. I had tried another fresh module I had in an electrostatic bag, but the headphone audio didn't work, so I put the original back in. Fast forward a day or two, now the headphone audio works in neither, and the earpiece doesn't work again. I'm wondering if this has any connection with the fact that I'm running unofficial CM12 with archi kernel and is not a hardware problem. The headphones are detected by both and the speaker works for both. What gives? :crying:

Phone won't recognize my headphone's mic and buttons (volume-play music)

Hi!
I'm having some strange issues reggarding the use of headphones.
Recently I bough a pair of Razer Hammerhead pro v2 headphones from a retailer. They are brand new, and work just fine in other cellphones (Motorola or LG) and even my computer.
But, as it turns out, they do not work properly on my phone.
Let me elaborarte: I already have a pair of Philips headphones with a dedicated play/stop music button and microphone, and they work just fine with the cellphone. But, whenever I plug my new headphones on the phone, the "headphones with mic" icon shows once on my notification screen and then just banishes, leaving me with an icon that looks like a pair of "regular headphones", not recognizing the mic. or buttons.
I've read some people online experiencing the same issue as me. And, even though you can ACTUALLY hear a conversation or music with the headphones, the mic. and buttons just don't work. Is almost as if they were non existent to the phone.
I've already tried different apps that allow you to mock you cellphone to bypass this issue, but they don't work.
Any suggestions?

AGREE. Also, if you can check that if you keep pressing the handsfree jack down, the mic works???

Yeaj, I tried that already but it doesnt work. And it wont work because I think that this is a MIUI related problem.
Any suggestions?
My mic works if I keep the handsfree jack at a certain position or keep pressing it. May be it's a hardware problem or handsfree problem. Who knows!!!

My issue is SOLVED.
Turns out there was dust settled down in the jack.
SOLUTION: Take an ear bud, dip it in petrol and clean the headphone jack with it.
Thanks for your thread as it helped me in getting to the root cause of the problem :good:

I've already tried that one, and had no ressult. I cleaned it as soon as I got the problem, but it keeps happening
So for me, the problem is still ongoing
As I stated before, I can hear my headphones, but both mic. And buttons don't work.
Try using a different recording app and or music player, see if that helps.
