Try rooting with flashtool. If you don't know how to do that, please check out the pinned rooting guide

Make sure that you turned on following things:
Developer options--->usb debugging
Security--->unknown sources
Xperia--->connectivity--->mass storage mode

+1 and use flashtool.

I hope you installed the proper adb drivers... For XMP...
I don't know if flashtool require drivers or not...
(I use a different toolkit for rooting and flashing)
But for detection of device, driver should be installed

ADB drivers for sony ericsson: http://developer.sonyericsson.com/wportal/devworld/search-downloads/driver?cc=gb&lc=en
i installed the drivers with right click on .inf files and choose "install" (on windows xp) then connected my phone with usb and adb driver installation started by windows as usually with drivers. (then started the runme.bat)
EDIT2: CONFIRMED WORKING on Xperia Mini Pro (Sk17) 2.3.4 FW 4.0.2.A.0.58
Thanks to Revolutionary Team and DooMLoRD for the amazing work! root'n'roll!
Does this method corrupt the DRM TrackID feature?
Nope it does not......
It doesnt mess with the bootloader in any way......
It worked a charm. Thanks.

for xperia mini(st15i) there is a temp CWM recovery that you can flash with flashtool(require unlocking bootloader) and you can flash mods and when you reboot the device CWM is gone.
search temp boot for xperia mini pro.if you find maybe usefull for you.
if you find temp boot for your device you can root your device with CWM.
Rooting is the gate to modding pal. . .
You need to do it. . .
Also bootloader should be unlocked as if u wanna install custom rom some of them are only for unlocked bootloaders. . .
Rest use search button
Happy modding

To use CWM you dont need to root your phone but you need to unlock the bootloader and flash a new kernel. This WILL void your warranty but if done correctly it opens a whole world of mods in android. Sony provides an official method of doig the same in their blog(jut google) but using that method makes you loose your drm. I did come across another method(on this forum) which claimed that you could do the same without loosing the drm but I havent tried it out.
You can without unlocking...

Hello.
To use CWM without unlocking your bootloader, I did the following :
Start with an xperia mini pro with official ICS 4.0.4 (4.1.B.0.431)
First, I rooted my xperia following the topic : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1701357
Then I used RecoverX to install CWM without unlocking the bootloader : http://www.iphoneandroidtips.org/how-to/recoverx-to-install-recovery-for-sony-xperia-phones/
Then you restart your Mini Pro when Sony appears, keep on taping on Volume down button to enter CWM menu :cyclops:
Then I could install custom ROMs CyanogenTimescape, RealICS, AOKP (Roms that allow locked bootloaders)
I hope that can help you.

You need to have root already, before updating to ICS.
You need rooted Gingerbread in order to root ICS. Make sure ADB drivers are installed.

No its not bricked. It happened to my phone too. I'm assuming that you're trying to root the ics stock rom using Doomlord's method. So flash the stock kernel for sk17 again.
1. turn on USB debugging.
2. turn on unknown sources.
3. change connectivity mode to mass storage.
flash the MT11i_4.1.A.0.562_kernel.ftf kernel again. turn off the phone, and reconnect in flashmode and then run runme.bat from Doomloards rooting kit. It worked for me before. Several times
Please post all questions here in the Q&A sub-forum where they belong.

Xperia P LT22_6.1.1.B.1.54_Kernel.zip
Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v18: Click
Thanks to naruto20007 & neoxx3m for kernel files.
Thanks to Bin4ry for Rooting tool
Thanks man i rooted my device with ease by ur steps
...but the steps you detailed are *exactly* downgrading the kernel, rooting that, and then flashing the new kernel back—pretty much the very steps everyone would have done since the .54 update. How is this 'Without Downgrade'?

For some rooting methods, u have to downgrade to 2.3 so i mentioned 'Without Downgrade'
There is already a thread in the dev section abt this same process....

Downgrading problem
When i tried to downgrade to .599 from flashtool, it said that its complete but when i restarted it was the same 1.54 version and everything was black except the notification bar. Any ideas how to downgrade to .599 without errors? :/

Not a new method. Rooted my phone this way even before I read your post...

Thanks a lot
You are a savior...I tried different method as shared on xda forums and still failed to root my Xperia....and now with the help of your post I finally rooted my Xperia P...thanks a lot.
Could you tell me why we had to flash our kernel first to ensure a perfect root....as to the methods mentioned on different threads they say to root the phone first and later flash the ROM or kernel??

when you flash a ROM by flashtool and default confs your root access will be lost, and about this methot: bcz older kernels are rootable and newer not.

[SOLVED]Xperia Neo Rooting Problems

Hello everyone
I have problem, which I didn't had before, I repaired my phone using SUS(Sony Update Service), flashed .562 Kernel, used DooMLord Toolkit for root, and after that when I try to flash back to .587 Kernel using Flashtool my phone wont go to Flashmode, nor Fastboot, this is not my first time to root my phone, I did this a lot of times, but now I have this problem, I'm using same files I used before, only newer version of Flashtool(0.9.10.1)
Any Solution?
I solved it by installing new ADB drivers for my Device and Flashtool
well since the only thing you changed is flashtool...try with the older version of flashtool..

I think that was the problem, probably something messed up when I installed the new flashtool, so I found installed new ADB drivers. Thanks
