[Q] Is it safe to flash a ROM with a different CSC - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
I live in the UK and bought by S3 new on ebay, which is unbranded and an international version (i believe). The box said Orange France, however i havnt had any problems using it with my UK SIM. The jelly bean update has just been released through kies for the UK version of the S3, and i was just wondering what effect flashing this ROM using ODIN would have on my phone?
i downloaded the ROM from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1902493
Thanks

CSC is nothing bar a few text files that enable auto network APN .
It will make no difference but will be more up todate with its network connections list .
jje

Ah right, thanks. so its should actually be better then seeing as i'm flashing the UK firmware to it.

Play store services are not all available worldwide - and some are country-region specific- but as long as you have a western european CSC you're fine....

Sorry for digging up an old thread but it covers exactly what i'm after
There's no official release for 4.1x for Australia yet, P5110 16gb WiFi only
what other stock ROM's will be suitable to ensure my play store, etc will all operate without an issue.
Thanks in advance

Specifically, yes. it's the wrong device.
But the same issue nevertheless.
Hence why i did include my device details.

Lol, well ok, I would advise sticking with your CSC but you can always try other Roms and flash back to yours. As you are Wi-Fi only you won't have any of the recent modem issues that have been present across several Samsung devices

No CSC does not matter its not required to make a phone work .
But that's relevant to the I9300 range your phone may or may not be the same .
jje

I'm sorry to break into this post, but i have the same question.
I live in Italy, but i bought an international Galaxy S3 with Romania CSC and i wish to stick with the ITV csc code.
I tried to flash, but it breaks OTA/kies Updates (that's not bad at all... my firmware is still XXEMC2, March 2013 with i9300QXFMEA2 csc (info taken with *#1234#).
I've also read that double flashing changes the CSC code...i tries this procedure with no results (csc still COA)
Can you please give me some tips?

Tips read the stickied basic faqs and guides .
Make your mind up to upgrade via OTA/ Kies or XDA not both .

[Q] No available update on kies (even though i should have!)

Hi all, I'm new to posting here but a vet over at samdroid.
I've looked around quite a bit and my problem seems to be unique...annoyingly.
I got my S2 on contract from O2 about 4 days ago, instantly went home and found out I was eligible to upgrade to ICS officially via kies. I have been on kies and connected my phone every day since, and I keep getting told I have the latest version (2.3.5), even though I've seen countless threads/comments of people delighted about the fact they upgraded through kies!
I was thinking of trying odin (i was a pro at updating roms on my spica), but don't know if using an offical update through odin instead of kies would void my warranty etc. NOTE: I don't want to actually root my phone (yet)
I hope that all made sense and any help would be much appreciated
Thanks,
Oli

make sure you got i9100 not any other varient
does other O2 in your area got ICS via KIES
odin is fine and will not void warrenty aslong you dont root and flash back the ROM you have now. you have to find this ROM first if you want to go back.

what do you mean by this?
also is there an official rom for my particular S2 that can be updated using odin? or even an unofficial one that wont void warranty?
thanks for all the help guys
This Thread has instructions and official ICS.
Plz note that this is official and will have TouchWiz and does look extremely similar to Gingerbread and without root and custom theme you will not get that ICS feel. You will however get most of the goodies that ICS has to offer.
I got my S2 on contract from O2 about 4 days ago, instantly went home and found out I was eligible to upgrade to ICS officially via kies.
Well that's not exactly true you upgrade if their is an upgrade for your exact phone .
Kies has firmware for GT-i9100KAO2U product code .
I have been on kies and connected my phone every day since, and I keep getting told I have the latest version (2.3.5), even though I've seen countless threads/comments of people delighted about the fact they upgraded through kies!
But not for your phones product code which obviously does not match the released O2 firmware .O2 may well and probably over twelve months had more than one phone for sale unless contract has different codes to PAYG .
Standard older O2 UK firmware for xxx Product codes is on Kies its also on this forum in a legitimate flash via Odin .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487
legitimate O2 firmware not stock Samsung tested and works on O2 .
Or you can go to Google find CHECKFUS and try to download from your codes .
jje
you still didnt confirm if you have i9100P which i think you have but i could'nt find the Stock ROM your running now, so you can go back to it later if required.
if you have i9100P this thread has good news for you though the actuall thread is stupid and useless...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24030713
i think what happened to u is you got the model which is i9100P not the usuall i9100, thus all on normal model are on ICS and you still on GB. you can wait for it to come or use the i9100 ROM's but please search if that is actually possible.

i read somewhere that i can use i9100 firmwares on my i9100P, so which of those 2 links would you recommend? also, is there a lot of risk or is it pretty easy and you're just covering yourself?
finally, if i update like this, will i be able to update officially through kies when the update is finally released for me?
no im not covering my self...... i tell you in points....
1: you got I9100P on O2 for which i cant find a firmware for.
2: because you cant go back to your old firmware which is O2 you will get into warrenty problems

ok, i guess i'll wait for the official update then. thanks for your help
here are your options if you still want to continue.
1: you can flash stock firmware for i9100.
2: you can flash custom firmware
3: you can flash O2 branded firmware for i9100.
but in all cases NFC wont work by default.
plus now you cant go back to O2 i9100P firmware as it cannot be found anywhere... atleast by me.

[Q] Newbie GS3 Region / Update questions

Hey guys
Im new to the galaxy s3 and samsung, I recently got my GS3 from newegg, unlocked international version.... I was wondering how to know which region the phone was from? I tried googling but i cant seem to find the answer. I came from an SE Arc S, SE had SI numbers so I could tell, but what does samsung use?
Also, there is no update for the latest LFB firmware yet... Does Samsung rollout firmwares for different regions in stages like SE? I'd like to keep everything stock..
When I press *#1234#, I get the following:
ap: i9300ubalf3
cp: i9300ublf2
csc: i9300uubalf3
Thanks
My understanding is that yours is Trinidad and Tobago.
Search for i9300uubalf3 on google and hit the sammobile result.
I think you can follow @SGS3Update on twitter to see if yours got the update, though I'm not sure how reliable this it. Technically, Kies should offer the update as soon as Samsung makes it avail.
What I still don't quite get is the role of CSC. More importantly, can we flash it independently of the firmware? And if so, which CSC canadian and US users should be flashing?

CSC can be flashed as a separate item .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671969
Says
CSC is the consumer software customisation and is specific to geographical region and carriers. It contains the software packages specific to that region, carrier branding and also APN settings for data connection, MMS etc for your service provider.
CSC has nothing to do with what languages the firmware supports and it will not add keyboard language support either.
CSC not required for phone to work .
jje
Thanks,
Since there is no CSC for Canada or USA, I take it that there is no point in changing it (except for maybe getting faster official updates?)
As far as MMS and Data, in Canada and USA, we'll need modify APN separately since there is no CSC?

Hi, I also have the same CSC as the original poster, Located in Trinidad. Do you know which csc receives the updates as they are released? I want to flash mine to whatever it is.
I had the same *#1234# as OP. I flashed every modem found on the thread here and signal quality results weren't any better. Checked for updates and got nothing. I noticed that most talk about XXBLFB (UTB) UK, so I chose to flash that firmware. Just to be in the same playing field. I am using my phone in the Miami, FL USA area.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
Flashed the UK latest firmware, UK CSC and it works fine with Rogers here. The rogers APNs are automatically in the APN list, I guess they get that from the sim?

[Q] Updating i9100 from Gingerbread 2.3.5

I'm entirely new to this so try to bear with me
I recently bought a Galaxy SII from a one day deals store and it arrived running Gingerbread 2.3.5. I want to update to the latest version available for the SII however the OTA update won't connect to the server and Kies (after at least two hours trying to get it to recognise my device) has told me that my current firmware can't be updated. Unless someone knows an obvious fix for Kies I guess I'm stuck with having to flash the new firmware using Odin. I'm using a guide on CNET (unfortunately I can't post links yet) that goes through installing ICS but replacing ICS with Jelly Bean.
The biggest problem is which firmware to get. My CSC code is OXA (Open Europe). Do I have to find firmware that matches that or can I just chose any one that I please then follow the guide that I'm using? I've been looking on SamMobile and there is a lot of different regions to chose from but none of them have the OXA CSC code and I don't know what to do. Also, is there anything I should look out for? I don't want to brick my phone.
Thanks in advance for your help. I'm sure it gets tiresome helping people like me.

There you go OXA It seems open Europe ended at 2.3.5 .. No wonder you can't update.. Anyway Poland's firmware should work just fine. Or just search the firmware of your own region. Do remember to do a factory reset after flashing JellyBean!
Alternately I recommend this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487 Its the latest firmware Samsung has to offer.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I think I understand now. The CSC is really only relevant to your current version. If I flash Jelly Bean from another region the CSC will just change to that region and still work as normal? Does it have any effect whatsoever on the function of the phone?

Yes CSC is bundled with the firmware. Dunno why but every time I flash a firmware it does not come with CSC and I must flash it manually.. Now that's a whole other story. If you plan on flashing a firmware not related to you region e.g you flash a European firmware while you stay in Asia then the CSC is quite pointless as kies won't let you update through it anyway. That said you must have the correct CSC/Firmware/Modem and region to recieve official updates through Kies. If not updating via Odin is good as well .

Well I live in New Zealand and the phone that I have has the European CSC code. The site that I got it from is called 1-day who claim to find the best prices from around the world in order to give ridiculously low prices. I assume that means that my phone came all the way over from Europe. Based on what you say then, I assume then that the CSC wouldn't matter in my case anyway as even stock, my CSC is in the wrong region?

[Q] Choosing stock firmware confusion

Hello,
I live in Pakistan and I just got my Galaxy S3 Gt-i9300 and it had Saudi Arabian warranty in it so I guess it's from Saudi Arabia. I rooted and flashed custom ROM in it now I wanna revert back to stock firmware but when I select Gt-i9300 on sammobile for downloading stock ROM then I there's a box called "Country", I'm confused about this part, Idk what to select..
Here are the questions that I wanna know answers of:
Does international Gt-i9300 got different rom for different countries?
Is there possibility for bricking my device if I select different country but Gt-i9300 rom?
And last question, what country do I choose now?
Thanks!

yes. different firmwares for different countries. CSC changes from region to region. there is no risk of bricking if you flash a different firmware. check the details under about phone and google for the similar ones. good luck

you can basically choose any firmware from any country. It is recommended though, if you run into problems, to flash your stock firmware (your country & carrier) (e.g. you can run a UK version in the US as long as it is for the I9300). In addition a second part is about modems, which again, you can use any modem of any country, whereas usually modems from your region will work best.
To see different firmwares etc. have a look at sammobile, there you can filter for your country, carrier, model etc.

T820 - device has been flashed with unauthorized software and is locked - SOLVED

I'm not a newbie to flashing ROMs but I am for flashing ROMs to my T820. I was following some instructions and something went horribly wrong. The ONLY thing I'm able to get into is the downloader (pwr+vol-dwn+home). I've gone through some threads about needing to re-flash stock image using Odin. So my question is, is re-falshing stock ROM the answer to this issue? And if so, where can I find a stock ROM for T820. I've looked through all kinds of threads and other sites looking for it and can't find it. I've tried using SamFirm but being as I can't get into my tablet I don't know the CSC/Region to use; and sidebar, it always says unauthorized anyway regardless of what region I put in the form. Does anyone have any advice to get me up and running? I started down this process because I had finally had it with the poor performance after a 2019 update and thought I'd try to give another ROM a try. Now I'd be happy to get back to my poor performing tablet.

Sorry to hear that.
A stock reflashing should help, but of course I can't guarantee that.
The original Samfirm isn't working any more.
You have to take samfirm_reborn0.3.6.2.
As you don't write where you're from I can't recommend a region.

Appreciate the advice. I downloaded the version of SamFirm you linked and it does seem to work as expected using a known region value.

Here's question, does it matter what CSC I use? I get it probably has implications for the cell version (T825 I think?), but for the wifi version is it needed? Could I use any English firmware? The only CSC codes I could find related to USA were ones bound to a carrier. I also found a few "unknown" CSC codes. Any idea what those are for?
@gregchak by searching the net for you I've found these two:
List of Samsung Galaxy CSC Country Specific Product code and region they belong to
List of CSC Country Specific code for Samsung Galaxy & various countries, regions, network carriers, model numbers, variants phone belong to.
www.androidsage.com
Samsung CSC Codes List For All Countries | iHax
Here is the complete Samsung CSC Codes list of all the regions and carriers. The Samsung Country Sepcific Codes list should help you identify the right firmware for your device.

In the past I thought like you that it doesn't matter, but I've realized after searching there are differences in Wifi frequencies/channels in the world.
idk how much the CSC interacts with Wifi.
So it might be ok, but idk exactly.
Btw doesn't it say anything on the T820 packing.
Unfortunately the packaging has long since been thrown out. I bought this tablet about 3-4 years ago. I tried a few different CSC codes that might work. XAR is apparently what worked for me. I was able to get that image installed via Odin and I'm back up and running. I really appreciate your help!
I followed the documentation I could find for getting the CSC from the settings app on my tablet but it says to look for it under Settings -> About Tablet -> Software Information -> Service Provider Software Version section. I don't have such a section. Also, being a tablet, I can't use the phone dialer method either. Do you know what the method is to get the CSC from settings? Or is there another way?

You could try PhoneINFOsam or HW info, but they need root what you probably don't have any longer, or do you?
Imo as you flashed XAR that should be its CSC (now)
@gregchak and I just found/remembered that:
Download mode shows your original Country code, no matter what CSC you flash
btw. it may be helpful for others if you edit your thread title and add "solved"

Good point about the title. I edited as you mentioned.
I tried booting into download mode but I don't see any CSC codes noted there. It looks like what I posted pics attached to my original post. The documentation I had read previously said that it is noted in download mode under the carrier section. But since my tablet is WiFi only I don't have a carrier section displayed in download mode.
@gregchak I suspected that, but it might have worked.
Another chance is the serial number perhaps.
But as there will be no more OTA updates published by Samsung it's not really necessary to know the former CSC.
Btw the app PhoneInfoSAM is telling me the original CSC on my WIFI P900.
