Hi everyone,
So, I think ive damaged my internal memory...But let me give u some info first.
UK SGS3 i9300 on vodafone. I rooted it a while ago and have had several roms. I know the basics of android hacking since I've hacked several as well as my previous 2 contract phones. I was on paranoidandroid 2.22 or w.e. version it was, however I wanted to go back to a sammy rom, and decided to clear my internal sdcard n ext sdcard (more or less - leave my music folder on there foe example) at the same time. I only mention this because my lead has been a little touchy recently and during the process it disconnected a fair few times till i got the cable sat right. I didnt have easy ums or anything - it was mtp. I completed this and loaded my rom onto the extsdcard.
I then went into the cwm touch recovery 6.xx or w.e. selected factory reset, wipe cache n dalvik, then installed it. It just got stuck at the boot logo for a while, then kept boot looping. I then tried wiping a few times, and a couple of different roms, and during this time I noticed that when I click wipe data it rebooted recovery. I then downloads the appropriate stock firmware to flash via odin. I flashed it and it was still stuck on the boot logo. I then realized I couldnt get into recovery, so I flash cf-root via odin, I got the 5.xxx recovery that comes with it. I tried to wipe all again, and it just didnt seem to work, I was stuck in a bootloop. I then posted this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1948255
So yeah with adb, I got it to boot, but i had the wrong size internal memory capacity. Then tonight I flashed twrp (a recovery if u dont know) (latest version) via goomanager and then selected in goo manager ti reboot recovery. Now my phone just goes from the sgs3 logo to the twrp logo and back, even if I boot normally, it does that, and same for trying to boot recovery. I can still get into download mode, but thats it.
I have since tried flashing the stock firmware again to no avail, I'm going to flashing cf root to get recovery... but we'll see what happens...
so what can i do?!?!
Have you tried flashing complete stock firmware through Odin? Then start from there?
You say internal memory is wrong? Might have to flash .pit aswell with re-partition?

yes I have, several times, if u read it all... Where can i get teh CORRECT pit file? I've tried one, but it didnt help.
I've just flashed cf root (after a pass on stock firmware) and its booted the ultima rom again... and still got 12.1gb internal... so my phone boots again, but the internal is still wrong! help!
You know that some of the 16gb is taken for the system files right? My phone only reports like 11.6gb in total to use.
Android reserves about 4gb that's why you only have 12gb free there is no problem there.

That's normal, the 12.1GB is COMPLETELY normal.
Other memory is reserved by the system.
This is usual and it should work that way, stop messing with it.
32GB models should have about 25GB~.
idiot here

oooookk, TT used to show 16gb tho.... i remember i like the fact it read 16gb sd & 16gb extsd. nvm, im just wrong. thanks. I'll use it as it for now, still not 100% convinced but ya know... never had this sort of trouble with my HTC's :/
I'd just like to thank fellow-idiot for this thread, had similar situation (semibricked device, flashed something I should not have been flashing), and now my Internal is 11.3, and I seem to remember it was 14.7, just like my external - but I may be wrong. Changing ROMs, formating Internal, changing recoveries (now on Teamwin Recovery) doesn't seem to change a thing about it. Oh well, not that I'm gonna need it, just wondering where it went (never said hallo either... no manners, today's internal memories..)
11.3 is what it should be

So I go through the whole ODIN process and everything works fine until my phone reboots and is supposed to wipe the data and flash the new rom. At that point the i get an error that says "data wipe failed". The phone just reboots and gets past the tmobile logo and the galaxy s logo and then to just a blank screen.
Why wont my data wipe?
Possibly you have a bad copy of the pit or jfd file or the drivers could be bad I would say get a flesh batch of files and drivers and try again
V5 custom vibrant
Odin back to stock and start from new, its alway better anyways

i am flashing the original stock firmware and i get that error.
Redownload all the files and try again

Maybe I should elaborate.
I already had a rooted phone with a custom rom. I decided I wanted to partition the memory card so i could have a ext drive. The problem is that I assumed when I selected the "partition memory card" option, it would partition my replaceable memory card and not the internal card. Needless to say my internal memory card got formatted and my phone ****ed up. It still booted into android but most of my apps and other things were missing, so I decided to just reflash a new rom and be done with it. So i downloaded the new macnut r13 and rebooted my phone into the recovery menu from the reboot screen. Once there I selected to install the new rom but I got some kind of error and it couldn't install. At that point my phone woudlnt get past the vibrant stage if rebooted so I just decided to odin back to factory and start over and that is where I am now.
I am using ODIN files I have used in the past and know work.
I will post a video of what I am talking about in a few minutes.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Vhp1B3g_2w
Here it is.
Ok, so I know that adb works now, i Have been trying a few things but I think my problem is that I need to reformat my internal sd card back to factory settings.
my question is how to do that with adb
Ok I dont really know how to reformat the sd card back to stock but I used to get that error every time when flashing back to stock with odin until I used eugenes no brick rom. Have you tried that?
No, I thought you could only use that if you didn't have 2.2 already installed at soe point.
I had axura 2.2 and I had to still flash eugenes no brick to go back to stock. I would try that.
So I tried the eugene's rom and it works at least some what.
I can boot into android but now it says I have no storage for apps and 14 gigs of storage on the phone. So I still have the partitioning issues.
Thanks for the help so far but I still need a little bit more.
anybody got anything?
Once you get to the point where your on eugenes froyo that doesn't brick you have to reload odin and then go back to stock with the jfd or ji6 files and the 512 pit file
V5 custom vibrant
I tried that and I still get the same problem, the data fails to wipe during the ODIN and I get a black screen after the galaxy s logo.
I went back to the no brick rom but I have no storage for apps so I am very limited to what I can do on the phone.
anybody, anything?
When you flash with ODIN make sure re-partition is checked. I have never seen this issue before but I think that should take care of it. From what I gather, you removed the /data partition so it fails to format the /data partition because there isn't one. Hope this helps. Lemme know if it works. Gdluck
same problem, still happens
I installed the clockwork recovery mod on my phone and boot into it. Once there i went into the partitions menu to try and format my "data" partition and it couldn't find it for me.
So it looks like my problem is more than likely the missing data partition on my phone, Does anyone know how to use ADB to fix that?
Here is a video of the ODIN process
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYNUgYlg5IA
A friend of mine sent me his SGS2 which has some strange issue that happened after trying to root and/or simunlock. (not sure what caused this issue).
The phone has stock rom (Telcel Mexico) and is rooted, has CWM and boots properly, but two issues happen:
* Each time your reboot it kind of "factory resets", deleting wifi networks, apps, settings, etc.
* If you flash anything, it succeeds apparently but after rebooting it's still on the same ROM/kernel versions it was before flashing. NO ERRORS. This applies for Odin, with CWM, I have tried installing CM7 and CM9 roms (downloaded 2-3 times) and all say "Can't open /sdcard............./....zip (bad)"
I was hoping that following this thread would help:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458
However, even flashing the bootloader makes no difference. The count on download mode is stuck on 2 no matter if I install ROMs, kernels, bootloader, etc.
Edit: what's even wirder, I put my microSD card in the phone and it formatted it and replaced my content with my friend's last snapshot. How can such a thing happen? It's as if the phone was locked into some strange "restore" mode...
What can I do with this? I feel kind of stuck with this situation... Have not found any information so far...
Regards
there was similar thread some time ago, it seemedvthat I think the whole system was read only, I'll try to search a bit for that
EDIT: I could't find it but try to mount system and data and stuff in cwm and then tey to flash aome rom, then unmount (I'm not pro but this is what I would try)
Sent from my sgs2 running cm9
Well,
I think the FS mounting issue would work with cwm installable roms, but if I have reinstalled everything from odin, even the bootloader, isn't it strange in that way? I also don't understand why rebooting the phone even rewrites an SD card.
Even the counter on the download mode is stuck on 2, no matter how many times I flash a kernel, rom, bootloader. Odin always reports a successfull upload...
Yep, thag sd card thingy is pretty weird and I have no ide what's causing that.
Sent from my sgs2 running cm9
Well,
I have researched a bit more and found this for the Nexus S:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=993403
This phone has exactly the same symptoms, but as the yellow triangle is on and it always boots into a rooted version, I would like to see if I can do anything so the phone can be sent back for warranty...
Any thoughts?
If you can .
Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .Or need to return to service or decide if its hardware/firmware problem .
Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system sd card .
Remove battery
Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware .
Still problems use usb jig to set rom counter to zero .
Return to service centre .
Well,
Have tried everything, but no success. This is really weird, it's as if the whole phone had a backup and restores to this point on every reboot including sd card. Every odin flash comes out as "succeed", but nothing changes.
Will try to build a usb jig and test if it at least gets rid of the yellow triangle. I also can't flash anything via CWM as somehow the memory is "locked"... An external SD card is overwritten if inserted...
Regards
So I got an HTC Hero. I rooted, flashed custom ROMS, had much fun, but trouble started when I wanted to try out BEASTsense. Prepaired SDCard with EXT, flashed, all went fine. Like the fool I am, I removed the sdcard while ROM was working, so all apps disappeared. In order to fix that I rebooted. And then it started:
- Phone bootloops (not even reaching bootscreen) when the sdcard is in (yes, I tried another sdcard, yes, they had no EXT partition).
- Phone boots just right when sdcard is not in, and when I install it it doesn't detect it.
- RUU'd to stock, same problem
- HEROIMG'd to stock, same problem.
I would say it's hardware, but the bootloader/HBOOT reads and installs the HEROIMG from SD just fine. Help. Please.
(sorry for my relatively poor English)
EDIT: Before using RUU or HEROIMG, I tried booting into recovery and wiping everything, but the recovery itself wouldn't recognise my SD, so I could not flash another ROM or use my precious NANDroid backups. Just so you know
help!
Got the same issue, hero keeps rebooting, cant reach any menu, think i got it bricket.
Anyone has any idee, tryed hard reset.
With or without sdcard, same story
Try to wipe sd-ext in recovery... (it will delete your apps)
thanks

Got mine working now, now i got a strange batterydrain when i start the market or the internet browser. couple of minutes and the battery is out of order...
Hello, I'll try to explain what happened to get where I am now, and explain with details the last errors of my GT-9100.
I had a stock room jelly bean 4.1.2 installed. I had Android encrypted + SDCARD encrypted, and decided to format, but I didn't undo the encryption. As result, after master reseting it, it asked for a password do decrypt (as always asked when I turned the phone on), but it wasn't recognizing my password anymore. So I tried to clean and wipe all possible things, which ended on the device stucking at boot (doing boot loops, not asking for password anymore). I got an error on CW Recovery E: Could not load emmc (sounds like my internal storage is gone)
Later on, I tried to re-install the ROM, but got alot of trouble with windows drivers. Couldn't get any rom installed again. My device was then stuck at start, not even showing the white Samsung Galaxy S II GT9100 screen. After trying a variety of MODEMs, Kernels, I always get stuck on boot.info, zimage (kernel) on ODIN (Both 1.85 and 3.07 versions).
The only thing that has worked so far is changing the bootloader to the stock version. After doing this, my smartphone turns on on Chinese language. The ROM loaded is a jelly bean, but it has no status bar, can't open camera/folder explorer, can't do calls, can't acess internet, doesn't even show the configuration menu. And everything is chinese. BTW Calculator was working lol.
So this is the situation. Has my internal storage been gone forever? Is there a way I can flash without being stuck at boot.info or zImage when trying to flash kernel, both on Odin messages? Or is my phone really bricked? Thansk alot, I'll pay close attention to this.
EDIT: I haven't found after a day of research anyone that did data wipes in an encrypted phone, so this can be a guide for any future similar case.

No I haven't. Is there any online link here? I couldn't find it.
Solved
After a day looking for it, I solved my problem
I tried several kernels, roms with almost all odin versions. The best one for gt-I9100 was odin 1.87.
This was the deal: After cleaning the encrypted internal storage, it got corrupted. So one of the first steps to get my phone reacting again to ODIN when installing new ROMs was installing the original GT-9100 .PIT file and re-partitioning (Even with every forum/site telling me I should never do it).
So, if you ever do the same mistake as me, try this:
Install a new kernel, then .PIT original file. Get a proper MODEM file, and finally try flashing your ROM.
I also got alot of problem with my USB cable, which is kinda damaged, so out of 10 plug-ins, only a few would work for ODIN. Try getting a brand new cable.
That's it.

hey guys, first post here: i just bought the atrix 4g, got it in the mail today, used the 1-click rooter to unlock the bootloader, then to root. then i installed cyanogenmod 9- i followed instructions appropriately, but the phone hangs at the motorola logo screen at boot-up and does nothing more. i tried re-flashing, fixing permissions, clearing dalvik cache, nothing works.
edit- i installed cyanogenmod9 through clockworkmod, by installing zip from internal
i was going to re-flash stock rom, but i cant get internal storage to mount from clockworkmod (no sd card), so i cant get the stock file over to the phone to flash, so im bricked.
any thoughts/advices? thanks in advance, after not having a phone for near a week, id kinda like to make a call

You bricked your phone, not cyanogenmod ...
Restore a backup, your phone should work.
hm, can anyone tell me, why i cant get internal storage to mount from clockworkmod? is this a common problem?
i dont understand what went wrong for me, when i followed the same steps that many others did.

Your phone is not a paperweight, just not boot the operating system
You did a backup with CWM? restore a backup as Emerson says
You can borrow a sd card copy there CM7 and install from the sdcard
You can also use RDS to install a stock rom
Never install a rom without having an one that you know works 100%
AND ALWAYS READ ALL FAULTS AND SOLUTIONS BEFORE INSTALLING A CUSTOM ROM
ok guys, i went and bought an sd card, clockworkmod mouted it fine, i found and copied over to the sd card android 2.34 for atrix, it flashed fine and my phone is back up.
can you gentleman tell me, whats a good solid rom to flash? cyanogen mod 9 obviously didnt work for me. id like to get started setting up the phone, so i need a good rom to begin with.
thanks to everyone in advance
Go with montouri's version of cm7.2 ,mrom-Olympus you can find it in the developer section. Its my daily driver. Its the most stable and has the best battery life out of all the roms that I've tried
motoxrcr1 thanks for the recommendation, running m-rom now and it runs smooth.
the first time i tried to install it, it hung at the boot logo, then i got to thinking maybe i better try updating clockworkmod, turned out that clockworkmod 4.0X that was installed by the 1-click rooter, is rather old, so i found and updated to 5.XX. tried re-flashing m-rom again, and it worked fine that time.
older clockworkmod, that's probably what caused my original problem with cyanogenmod 9..
does mrom support overclocking? not that i guess i need it, but just to know for future reference
thanks!
the trouble i caused myself, was all due to flashing the rom from an older version of clockworkmod.. after updating to a newer version 5.xx, it flashed fine
