Can't flash kernel via Odin - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all.
I tried to flash Siyah v1.5.3 kernel over official JB firmware via Odin 3.0.4 and after flashing I turned on device and heard boot sound, notification sound, capacitive buttons where on, but the screen was black and CWM didn't install. Then I installed CWM manually and flashed kernel via CWM and everything went fine. Maybe someone know what's wrong?

Just flash siyah kernel 1.7rc1 thats the kernel for jb

Use (dot)tar file to flash with ODIN and (dot)zip file to flash with Clockworkmod (Custom recovery).
And Siyah 1.5 is Ice Cream Sandwich kernel. Siyah 1.6.3 and 1.7.1 are both Jelly bean kernel. Use the latest kernel.

Oh, so I used wrong version kernel. But I thought that version works both with ICS and JB. Thank you guys!

Hmm, never heard of that before, something you've done wrong?
Grab odin, or mobile odin & flash the odin version of speedmod.

Install CM9 stable

Hello guys.
At the moment, I'm using siyah kernel 4.0.1 with dual boot of CM9 RC2 and slim ics (2ndry). Now I want to update from CM9 RC2 to the latest stable release.
Can I flash without data wipe/ factory reset and having all apps and settings still there?
Thx for reply folks!
Btw: great platform!

Yeah. there's a guide to dual boot with siyah. I believe you would just go to the dual boot settings in cwm recovery and flash the updated zip to the first/second rom.

Thx. Made an backup via cwm, then flashed the newest CM9 version. Everything went fine. I only had to reflash siyah kernel cause it installed the cm kernel while flashing.
Can be closed!

Flashed sayih4.1 2 and cm9 nightly 19/8 can i flash latest stable9.1.0 without sayih?

As sayih latest 4.1.2 contain cwm recovery 6.1.2 i'm afraid if i flashed latest cm9 9.1.0 stable to lose recovery that is included in kernel so could i flash it without sayih or i need to flash sayih in the same session before exiting recovery will i lose cwm completely if not flash sayih or what?

Yeah. If you flash CM9 you will lose the touch 6.x CWM recovery bundled with Siyah kernel.
You can get it back by flashing Siyah kernel right after flashing CM9

Getting back 4.1.2

Hi to all,
I am newbee to android. After using HTC One V for few months I purchased Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 from UAE. It was running Jellybean 4.1.2 having Modem XXLS8. On a fine day for the requirement of built in call recording I rooted my phone and managed to install Omega Rom V23.
All went smooth. But next day I realised that Hindi fonts are not properly displaying and I made a big mistake to flash Omega Rom again. This time I stucked in BootLoop . Everything tried. Finally I gave up
I thought flashing back may work so I flashed available stock Gingerbird rom via odin. Now system is back running Stock Gingerbird Android with modem XXKI4. Then I tried to update GB to JB via OTA and Kies, But OTA and kies refused to update software.
Please give me any solution to get back my 4.1.2 version or tell me any idea to get Custom Rom Omega V23. Will it safe to flash Omega V23 4.1.2 directly on current 2.3.6 rom with Philz latest kernels?

Yes you can, you're gonna have to root it tho.

Thanks. Can I root present 2.3.6 Gingerbird and Install Custom Rom Omega v23 4.1.2 directly? Or I have to reinstall stock version 4.1.2 over current 2.3.6 Gingerbird?

Well, the latest CMW version might be better, is not mandatory to go 4.1.2 tho.

I am not getting it. Please spoon feed me. I will be in debt.
I tried following steps:
I download Omega V23 custom rom and kernel - PhilZ-cwm6-XWLSN-OXX-4.93.6-signed and placed it on SDCard. After going into stock recovery I applied Philz Kernel via Stock Recovery. But getting error in red-
E:Failed to verify whole file signature
E:Signature verification failed
Please give me any solution. I dont have enough previlage to post into Android Development Forum as I am newbee here.

I guess you did not make backup of your original ROM... i would recommend that you install ics first before installing jb or custom jb roms... you can get stock ones samfilmware.. when try installing omega ROM again make sure you back your ROM this time so will not start all over again if a problem occurs at any time had same problem bootloop because of the kernel that was installed just did a full wipe fixed it for me and reinstall over again

Yepp..You are not getting it. System is running GingerBread with Stock Recovery. I can make backup in CWM recovery only. But right now my problem is that Philz Kernel is not installing. It will give me CWM Recovery and it will root the device. Any solution for above error??

[Q[ROM Galaxy S2 + Kernel Siyah

I have some questions about my phone. I want to install JB and now i have ICS 4.0.3. The problem is that i can't install JB because i have Insane chip. Some people say that, if I install Siyah Kernel(safe kernel) i can install JB without any problems. But after i try to install Siyah 5(with CWM), i get a message like "Installation aborted".Also this phone is rooted, have a stock ROM and have CWM v3.15. How i can install JB(i want Slimbean)?
Grab a official fb firmware and flash it with odin then install philz kernel (odin version) cuz it dont change binary counter (no yellow triangle)
After that go in recovery and flash slim bean zip file and gapps (optionally)

Yeah siyah is absolutely safer way to start after flashing it through odin grab a stock or custom jb rom and flash it
also check for the latest version of the cwm
Installations get aborted mainly due to the older versions of cwm
Gud luck mate

As you can see siyah has last update on feb. So it's better to use different kernel instead of siyah.
