Hello, I'm new here and this is my first thread so if it's not in the right place i apologize...
Firstly, I know nothing about developing and nothing about what a kernel does or anything like this, I just know how to flash things and read tutorials haha
Few questions for my LG p990 - 3 UK
I've looked around and haven't found anything about tethering that helps me, I'm wondering if there's a way of tethering with out being charged for this? I've got completely unlimited internet for my phone but i will get charged if i tether, Is there anyway to bypass this and use my 3G internet on a laptop?
Also about xbmc, I've used xbmc since the original xbox and actually still use my old xbmc xbox on a daily basis but using it for HD films obviously doesn't work, Now xbmc on the optimus is fairly stable but i unerstand that no one's got the tegra2 optimized to work with HD unless it's on the original ROM, Will this change soon or am i going to have to upgrade my phone (Running CM7 and love it and would hate to go back to standard ROM)
And... I've tried other kernels and they just don't work well with CM7 if atall! but i would like to be able to overclock my phone, It's powerful enough but more power is never a bad thing. Is there any very stable released kernels and ROMS that will allow me to overclock and be awesome?!
And the last thing... I read somewhere that S2 korean keyboard is apparently almost as good as the iphones and some mentioned backporting it to work on any android phone? First thing would it be in english? and would it be better than the jellybean keyboard i've got installed at the minute (tried every keyboard on the android market and this one beats them all!)
Thank you, And please go easy on me for being a pain... I'm only 19 and i'm more of a graphic designer and nowhere near a developer.

Ive search high and low on xda developers to find a rom with a aosp bluetooth stack and mhl cable support. My plan is to use the Sixaxis Controller app with the mhl cable but so far ive only been able to find roms that do only one of those functions.
Also is there anyway to install a new bluetooth stack and the Original XXKG firmwares.
Would appreciate any help.
Device: Samsung Galaxy S2, Running MIUI.
That's something many gamers wish... but after a few months without any luck I think the only way is to buy a specific gamepad like phonejoy, etc. as long as CM (and MIUI consequently) doesn't support mhl yet. And maybe never...
The cool thing could be something like you are talking: someone making a stock rom but with aosp bluetooth drivers instead of samsung ones
Edit: I write from the complete ignorance, and don't know if it's easy to do or even possible. Please excuse me if i'm saying something stupid
I too am wondering
If one could just copy the AOSP bluetooth over the stock roms we would have the best of both worlds
The bluetooth stack in Cyanogenmod 7 works with sixaxis. I used my ps3 controller to play my emulated games.
Although I do perfer non-aosp, as the kernel/rom selection is better and the touchwiz apps are better (IMO) . I cant live without fm radio.
If any devs could add find a way to get the aosp bluetooth stack on a non aosp rom, we would all be very grateful.
I want to bump/1 up this thread
I am using lite'ning rom 6.1 and I really love this rom, but at the same time I want to be able to use my ps3 controller so thumbs up for anyone who can do this, even information on how to or why it's not currently done would be nice, my brother knows a bit about programming if we knew where to look maybe we could try to do it ourselves. I really want to see this done. I know it's possible somehow!
Hi this is my first post here. I've learned a lot from reading over the past couple days here. For my birthday I'm getting the Galaxy Player 5.0 (USA version) and want to get the most functionality out of it for a lot of different things, the main things being Internet acess, emulators & apps, and music. One thing I'm interested in is using Bluetooth controllers for emulators on the GP. I have access to PS3 and Wii controllers, and I've read conflicting things about about if the PS3 controller works with the stock rom with an added app or not, or if you have to root the device to make it work.
I'm interested in rooting the device to add cool stuff, overclocking the device slightly for better performance (1.2 or 1.3ghz perhaps). Can you use peripherals like 3g/4g receivers via the Mini-usb port, or will the port only work for charging? If you root the device, can you access 3g or 4g radio networks if you have a data plan, or if they ever brought something like Samba to the US, or do you need a cell service dongle?
What sort of kernels or roms can you add without disabling functionality like the camera? I only have a dumb phone with no camera and this is another useful function, along with skype when I'm on the road. I'm ok with keeping Gingerbread. I have lots of experience with the GS2 which had Gingerbread and later ICS and it didn't make a huge difference in the experience (I might like using the old web browsing style). Project Butter would be aweswome though.
Is there any info on the specs of the DAC for the audio part of the player? I'm interested in having some 24/96 flac of some of my favorite albums on the player. I understand this device has a certain DAC not used on other GPs, made by Yamaha?
Also, is typing ever laggy on the GP5.0? I use my GF's family tablet a lot that has Honeycomb and from what I understand, its the stock browser causing the issue, but typing on that thing is miserable.
I plan on getting a Zagg shield for it (I've grown accustomed to the feel of them), but I haven't seen many good affordable cases for the device.
TL;DR:
What kernels or roms can you use to enable BT controllers, keep the camera, possibly OC the processor. Stock OS OK. Mini usb ok for peripherals? audio DAC specs? Laggy typing? Cases?
Lots of gingerbread roms that have everything working are available here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1720457
I recomend Chip Rom..looks nice and everything works..
Thanks guys, I will be checking those out. The USA version uses 2.3.5 right? Any rom that uses 2.3.6 will need a different kernel flashed first, is that right?
got this case + stylus + protector combo

i bought mine for 13 USD but looks like they raised the prices.
case - quality is ok, but its cheaper than the $40 USD leather cases on amazon.
stylus- decent , i use it occasionally
screen protector - havent tried it yet as i had bought one from walmart. however, it has a rectangular cutout on the bottom as it is for the INTL version with the physical button
only thing is that u might want to order this first because international mail takes a while.

Cool, thanks I saw that on eBay it looks really good especially for the price.
The main thing I want to do is be able to use Bluetooth controllers, would I be better of installing a patch than a whole rom? ICS and Jelly Bean themes can just be installed. Are there certain apps available for over clocking and other stuff that can only be done with root access, like the PS3 six axis bt controller app? Could you change the quick start buttons at the bottom of ever homescreen with a certain app that requires root access, rather than a whole custom rom? Thanks again for the help.

For overclocking use tegrac overclock, with free app you can overclock to 1.3 ghz with paid more but 1.3 ghz is enough ... custom kernels here are "stock" overclocked to 1.2 ghz

Hello.
I've recently begun a school project where we're able to use the DevKit8000, and since it runs Linux, i thought about putting Android on it instead and using self built apps with it.
I've tried to google around a bit, but haven't found confirmation that it can work all that well (found a video with a ICS port that was SUUUUPER laggy), so i'm hoping someone here on this great forum could help me out
Optimally i'd like the highest version of Android that can run semi well, so perhaps 2.1 if i'm lucky? Maybe only 1.6 though..
Hi Guys,
as I'm thinking of getting a new phone sooner or later, I was thinking how to use my Atrix and my Multimedia-Dock later on.
I never used the Lapdock mode or HDMI mirroring, but I bought the multimedia dock because it was really cheap and I can use my Atrix as a digital clock also.
So please forgive me if I'm asking questions that only work with the lapdock mode
My idea is:
I want to use the Atrix as a media-station for music (on storage and streaming).
As the multimedia dock as a 3,5mm line-out, I thought this might work. I'm on MIUI V5 with JB right now and just plugging in something in the 3,5mm line-out won't let me listen to any music, as I guess this line-out only works in lapdock-mode, because it will get the audio signal from HDMI (?).
I want to know if this might work with any rom that supports lapdock, because for the functions I want, I don't need the newest Android with the latest features.
Another function that would be awesome is to pair the Atrix via Bluetooth with other devices so the Atrix can play music via BT from other devices. Is this possible, too?
Like: Music on new phone --> BT --> Atrix connected to speakers plays music.
If there are any threats like this already, I'm really sorry, but a quick search didn't give me any results
Thanks!
P.s.: Can I put USB-storage on the multimedia dock when the Atrix is in lapdock mdoe?
Indeed, you need to go back to gb or atrics to fully use the hd dock.
You can connect any pendrive to those usb, phone will mount them.
Not sure about bt. Guess is possible

Thanks for the quick reply! Going back to gb won't be the problem

I recently received back an Atrix that I purchased on behalf of a friend sometime ago. I also figured it could perhaps be of use at the mother-in-laws when my son is there. I have another account with xda though it has been so long since I used the forum to post that I could not remember my username! So I just clicked to log in via G+. Its been great seeing that such an old (at least in terms of android developement) device has still got some very good support and excellent contributers. Before my Nexus4 I had a Galaxy S and that got flashed regular from the great work that goes on here.
It didn't take much reading to work out that Atrics looked as if it would suit my needs best for some simple internet use and perhaps media viewing on the Bravia the phone will be hooked to. I am hoping I may also find an XBMC build that will be stable enough to enhance the system! So today I found the time to get the basic Atrics 2.0 up and running, One or two little bugs too work out but am sure they will have been covered already. Installed FlashFox browser to make sure flash works without any hassles and just completed a rom backup and upgrade of the kernel to 14-02-05. The difference is noticeable straight away Krystian, good work.
I'll try to keep up with my project and how it goes. How is your project working out muhski?
Thanks again to just about everyone within this forum who has posted, I narrowed initial problems down quickly due to the very useful guides and information
setup restrictions
So I set up everything up nicely using the atrics ROM. Due to the TV and setup at the mother in laws, using the stereo out on the dock was not viable. This forced me to roll back to Nottatrix4g for a quick fix of using the HDMI to pass sound as well as audio. As a result I have a nice portable setup which will reside at the mother in laws for my son to use and perhaps his grandad too. I kept the ROM install as slim as possible without removing any functionality that may be required if we take the system on holiday for example. I installed several addons in xbmc and went through each to check the ones that wouldn't work easily for example asking for an external player, (the ones that did work easily all diverted to mxplayer). I added both Firefox and dolphin for flash based browsing, a couple of the games he plays on my Nexus 4 and an emulator to play the games I still have from the NES. The emulator is tied into wiimote for an easier experience for him although I would have preferred a more manageable pad but since that's as good as free.
So the the real test will start tomorrow, my main concern would be the system recovering from any crashes but up to now with the exception of xbmc occasionally closing, I have only had one issue with Bluetooth and the mouse showing paired but not. I deleted the db and that resolved the issue which I was unable to replicate.
So my experience would be to tell you if a similar project was looked at, check your hardware and see how the audio can connect best. If you can only do audio with HDMI stay on 2.x.x ROM, if you can stereo from the dock into the TV by RCA's or an amplifier you can use atrics ROM or a 2.x.x based ROM. Other than this you shouldn't need to spend too long finding a good use to a redundant Atrix.
The xbmc version came from xbmcandroid as the official xbmc does no longer support tegra² chips. If your reading this regarding a newer phone then the official version may suit you better.
Thanks to everyone who has made this possible I will try and name everyone and their apps in a review of the system in the hands of the young and the old in a week or two!

Did you ever get around to making the list of applications used in your media center build?
Also, does the remote control work with it?
I bought an atrix that is with the first version of android that came out with it, so it's pretty much useless, it came with a lapdock, and Im *trying* to use internet on it, and maybe playing games on emulators, but nothing works on android 2.3 ...
I would like to recommend ROMs that work 100% with lapdock (webtop)(or optimized for lapdock) as I will use it just for that
