I side loaded it. "Sorry, we only support some smartphones for the moment. You'll need to go to Xbox.com to enjoy Xbox experiences on your device."
Changing DPI to 213 (N7 DPI) or 132 did not help. I think tablets aren't supported yet.
Yeah I got the same msg
If it can work on N7,it should work on any tablet. Question is what is it looking at to see if it is a tablet or phone? And what is different between N7 and tenderloin? Some sort of build prop edit would have to work, right?

I got it working by hacking the apk:
1) download .apk for sideloading (e.g. com.microsoft.smartglass.apk)
2) get apktool
3) get signapk.jar
4) both of those tools need JRE, so make sure that's available
5) decode the apk to a temp folder:
apktool d -f com.microsoft.smartglass.apk temp
6) make this change to temp\smali\com\microsoft\xbox\xle\viewmodel\SystemCheckActivityViewModel.smali

< if-eqz v0, :cond_1
---
> goto :cond_1
(That's line 388 btw)
That just causes it to skip over the list of compatibility tests it would normally run. I didn't bother finding out which one failed, but that might be interesting if someone wants to.
7) build the apk:
apktool b temp sg.apk
8) sign the apk (otherwise it will fail to install with a cert error):
ava -jar signapk.jar certificate.pem key.pk8 sg.apk sg-signed.apk
9) install the apk (sg-signed.apk) using whatever method you like, e.g. adb:
adb install -r sg-signed.apk

It disables all device checks, so it's worth a try. I'm sure the checks were all put in place for a reason, but it seems to work OK on my TP, so maybe they were just being conservative for the sake of support, or concerned about cosmetics/usability on certain screens?
Also keep in mind that this will need to be done for each update, so hopefully they'll just relax three requirements next time.
Thanks, i got a problem parsing the package error though.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda app-developers app
Weird... is it a certificate error? Maybe your device doesn't support self signed apks?
Usually the parse error is due to a bad download. I would delete it and try again.
I need to learn Corngood's method to remove the device check. Once MS fixes the Media Center error I will use this daily. Heck, I might use this as the remote in my Theater with Media Center. That will be sweet.
I wonder if that will work on some games with device checks? Hmm. Always learning.

I hear you on that damreal. Google doesn't quite understand that yet. People that switched from Apple to Android did it for a reason. Android better get its act together and quit allowing apps to block certain devices just because. If the hardware cannot run an app, fine! But do not block it just because. I hate buying apps and then upgrading devices to find my purchased apps no longer work. That is the one thing keeping me from purchasing a Nexus 10.

I wouldn't blame Google, based on the fact that it actually works without the artificial limitation. Microsoft has form on this, just look at halo2 PC.
Its not that hard to make an app work on at least 2.3 and up, on devices with reasonable CPU/gpu/memory.

Actually, it's not Android or Google's fault. App developers have the option to make their apps compatible with multiple versions of Android, and there are libraries available to to that (though they do complicate development to varying degrees). Google just provides the platform and updates, and it has never touted Android a unified OS. Android is, in my mind, a tinkerer's OS; it's not cutsomizable to the degree of Linux, but still, it's not for someone who wants to "set it and forget it."
In this case, Microsoft has not yet made the SmartGlass app compatible with tablets. For what reason, I don't know, but that's not something you can blame on Google.

Hello,
I own a Nook Color and plan to use it along with notebooks in school. I am getting a stylus, but the problem is the app. Is there a way to install SketchBookPro on the Nook Color? I'm running MIUI ROM. Thanks.
EDIT: Is there a way I can fake honeycomb to run this app?
You could use Sketch Book mobile but PRO requires Honeycomb.
Yeah you have to use Sketch Book Express (Free) or Sketch Book Mobile ($.99). Unless you install one of the Honeycomb roms.
Alright thanks. Boy am I sometimes dumb... figures. Thanks again!

Thanks, but I just installed Honeycomb. Just to use this app.
Just went back to MIUI for the speed. Now i'm wondering if there is a way to fake honeycomb to run this app? Or modify it to run on 2.3.3? Because I doubt it uses anything honeycomb dependent. Thanks!

This modified apk will install fine on CM7, but force close when you try to run it because it calls on the ActionBar API, which is Honeycomb-specific. You can see this by following the logs.

To do this yourself next time follow these steps:
1. Use Madcat's sdk port running on Rack's SD card to install Sketchbook Express from the Market and retrieve com.adsk.sketchbookhdexpress-1.apk from /data/app
2. Get APK Manager 4.9: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695701
3. Update apktool to 1.4.1 (051511 release) for xlarge support: http://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/downloads/list
4. Extract Honeycomb framework-res.apk from any duodexed HC ROM, I used Xoom Tiamat 3.2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1203635
5. Install HC framework for apktool per instructions here: http://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/wiki/FrameworkFiles
6. Use APK Manager to extract and decompile com.adsk.sketchbookhdexpress-1.apk
7. Modify the AndroidManifest.xml file with a text editor, I used Notepad++ in Windows
8. Use APK Manager to compile and sign apk.

Hi,
The Lenovo Android Tablet is released. It comes with the same n-trig digitizer technology as in the Flyer. It has apps with handwriting recognition such as VisionObjects Notes and maybe DocsToGo ( 5'30": http://androidcommunity.com/lenovo-thinkpad-tablet-hands-on-video-20110719/ ) which are quite handy.
It would be wonderful if our community can extract and port those apps to the Flyer (through ROM or apk). I am not in IT so I hope that the work can be done by someone here.
Cheers.
(I don't know whether the Development Forum is a correct one to post things like this. Mod please move the thread to other forums if necessary.)

Please, do it! A lot of people have already moved to HC
Try the following:
1. Install Notesmobile_len_oem.apk
2. Install the language pack (eg notesmobile_len-data-en_GB.apk)
3. Put the two lib files in your "system/lib" folder if possible
4. Run the notesmobile application for the first time. --> If you get a "device not supported error" continue with 5.
5. Uninstall notesmobile (keep the language pack and lib files in place)
6. Install notesmobile_len-oem-signed.apk
7. Run the notesmobile app (this version should ignore the device check)
@Himmig, got FC on process com.visionobjects.notesmobile_len
I also got the same force close.
I wanna know can man use it on GB?

Anybody tried WritePad, and another one is PenReader? It seems to be a pretty decent handwriting recognition app. It works like a keyboard, so can be used in any app. I hope it will be even much better on the Flyer with Honeycomb.
Anybody using Flyhigh ROM has been succesful to run this application?
well the problem is the following;
1. The flyer has 2 x touch film layers which work on different voltage readings. However the main touchscreen has the ability to detect both voltges, and hence why it can trigger into notepad mode when the pen nibbles touches the screen.
2. The the application itself is designed to work on a different android framework... This would need to be modified to sense.framework as otherwise they just won't compile well together. You also have to modify the application source code to accept the pen voltages instead of fingers...
Unless you want to use fingers too? If so that is another bastard in itself to set up with the pencils interface.
I've tried with SBM to see if the pen could be modified to write with it etc, and but failed, and hence I believe we need afew development to work on this.
Sent from my HTC Flyer P510e using xda premium
update your flyer to HC and buy writepad : you won't need to port this app anymore
Are people trying to get Notes Mobile to work or the handwriting recognition text input to work? Or both?
For those still getting force closes on Notes Mobile, I monitored logcat and found that you need to push the following into /system/lib/:
libMyScriptEngine.so, libMyScriptHWR.so, and libStylusCore.so
If you're running Himmig's modified apk, then it should be fine. If you're just using the apk straight from the system dump, then build.prop needs to spoof the Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet.
I've been playing with Notes Mobile on my Flyer for a couple of days, and handwriting recognition is quite spiffy. As a note-taking app, I still like HTC Notes better since it syncs with Evernote and it's just integrated better. You could export to HTC Notes from Notes Mobile though.
I actually don't know if the handwriting IME is part of the system dump. Is it there?
Thanks for the input mate... I should have looked at logcat :-/
I'll try if it works and see if the modified apk is able to surpass the device check... however - could you post your build prop modifications?
If you want the kindle, here's how using linux, works with latest WebOS.
1. Download & install the Palm SDK for linux
2. Just download the app file here.
http://bayfiles.com/file/RB7/oE4hSN/com.palm.app.kindle_0.11.499820_all.ipk
Go to the folder you downloaded and type this command while connected with usb cable to your touchpad, or just install the app any other way you know how.
palm-install com.palm.app.kindle_0.11.499820_all.ipk
Thank you, works perfectly. I put the ipk in my dropbox and installed it with preware without bothering with usb. It also syncs with the Amazon.co.uk accounts without a complaint.
Kindle App still available
As per title,I have searched everywhere, googled it.It was once available but i cannot for the life of me find out to where to download it from.
Any ideas?
Thanks
It has been withdrawn in Europe ( I think) but the US beta version can be had. If I remember correctly I downloaded it from webosbuzz and loaded it using webOS quick install through my desktop. You can still use a UK Amazon account to buy books despite the way the app was obtained. I'm not at home just now so I can't confirm that's where I got it but if you can't find it there post again and I'll double check.
I can't find the .ipk on the site you mentioned. If it's allowed (surely it must if it's a free app) would someone be able to post the updated .ipk on here?
This is the link to where I found it. XDA doesn't seem to allow me to upload it directly
http://www.filesonic.com/file/1779584324/Kindle.ipk
If that won't take you straight there then the link was from Webosbuzz within the HP touchpad apps forum. That particular forum is private so you have to creat an account.
Good luck.
Ps the app seems to work ok. I have been able to get books from Amazon uk- no sideloading though.

Ok so I have CM7.1 Alpha3.5 on the TouchPad. It's decent. However, it's just a blown up phone ROM with some tweaks to make it usable on a screen this large. This means that there's no panes in Gmail or other tablet optimized apps.
Now, I don't mean to diminish the work that has been done to things like the overlay for the buttons - that is really a slick implementation - but is there any way/place to get the tablet optimized versions of apps onto this thing instead of the phone versions of the apps? Or should I just shut up and wait for ICS to come out soon?
EDIT: Sigh. Mod, you can move this to the General section. My bad.
I was thinking of installing this, but if what you say is the case (all the apps will be like they are on the phone) then I guess I will wait til an ICS port comes out. I just REALLY want the Android apps on the Touchpad.
Install it! You have nothing to lose. You can boot into webOS OR CM7 via the startup menu.
Don't let one guy's complaints stop you.
Oh by all means install it. Its crazy fast and in a worst case scenario you lay an easier foundation for installing ICS when it is available. You don't have to use Android - this will get you dual booting.

Fyi there is a huge difference between "tablet version(hc)" and " tablet optimized " tablet optimized works on larger screen gb units( like our tp)
tablet version is intended for honeycomb devices with the appropriate framework and can only be loaded on honeycomb os.
The reason why ppl are needing to edit the build.prop is for the app/market to recognize our device as a compatible device/hardware on a "tablet optimized " app.
No matter what u do a "tablet version" application will not work on a "phone version " os.
If it were that easy to install a hc application, the current fragmentation would not exist within androids, and ics would not be that important coming out.
Just a food for thought rant since I'm seeing so many God damn threads about this matter lol..

Honeycomb source was never released so we are stuck with a phone optimized version of Android until we can get an CM9/ICS ROM. There are new APIs etc in Honeycomb that won't allow those apps to run in Gingerbread even if you somehow force installed them. You can find some apps that will display a tablet UI. Here is a few of ones I use that run a tablet UI:
Netflix (really nice tablet UI update that is working great)
OfficeSuite Pro 5
Maxthon Browser for 10" Tablet
Firefox (tablet UI can be enabled in about:config)
What I look for is apps that have tablet screenshots or have been updated for ICS yet the same version also runs on GB.

Here is a link to the video: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1381728
GT-I9100 and Samsung are the edits. It still won't let you download too many tablet apps as this is a phone port, but it still rocks.

Honeycomb source was never released

Actually the Honeycomb source was released, it's included with the ICS source.
http://groups.google.com/group/android-building/msg/c0e01b4619a1455a?pli=1
This release includes the full history of the Android source code
tree, which naturally includes all the source code for the Honeycomb
releases. However, since Honeycomb was a little incomplete, we want
everyone to focus on Ice Cream Sandwich.

But since ICS is here nobody cares about Honeycomb anymore.

More importantly, the HC releases are not tagged, so it is all random guessing as to which ones correspond to the HC builds..
This is an Xposed module (See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401 for more on Xposed) that allows Time Warner's TWC TV app to work when USB debugging is enabled. It should also allow working with VPNs but this has not been tested.
Source code for the module is at https://github.com/Entropy512/XposedTWCTVPatcher
To install:
Install the Xposed Installer APK from the thread linked above
Install the Xposed framework using Xposed Installer
Install the APK linked in this post
Reboot your device after enabling the module in Xposed Installer
Enjoy TWC TV on a rooted device - no more need for a smali-hacked APK, just install it straight from the Play Store
Change Log
Changes:
9/11/2013:
Update to work with newer TWC updates. Sorry this took so long.
The app no longer seems to be checking for root in any way, so this just disables USB debug checks and also attempts to patch VPN detection. VPN detection patching is untested.
1/30/2013:
TWC pushed an update today. ProGuard obfuscation resulted in the name of a method we hooked changing from w to x...

REMOVED due to TWC app getting updated - grab the latest APK and update the TWC app.

Looks like it's only for Verizon users. It's probably best if someone who can regularly use the APK makes a module to do this.
I'm eventually going to write a very generic high-level guide with tips on how to figure out what an APK is doing.
If you know of anyone who has "fixed" that APK using the old smali-hack method, I can analyze that with androdiff to try and reproduce the techniques used.
Awesome!!!!
DAMMIT IT WORKED ON MY ROOTED ASUS TRANSFORMER 300 TF!!!!! Thank you for this.
Any plans on implementing the HDMI fix?
Hi, thanks for sharing this hack. I wonder if something like this would be possible to allow the install and running of Hulu Plus from the Play Store on a rooted device.

At some point. I've been busy with other things lately. I also only have one device with working HDMI output.

Yup, although it wouldn't come from me as I'm a Plus subscriber.
If there's a hacked Plus APK somewhere, I suggest using Androidguard's androdiff.py to figure out what it's patching.
Then use the Androguard Simple Text plugin to view the relevant source for the APK.
This should tell you which methods need to be overridden to always return true/false.
It works on galaxy s ii from Sprint running cm10. Although the app doesn't actually work. It opens and video status to play but then gets error. If you need with it when it first stats playing it turns green when it stops playing. The only Rom I have gotten it to work on is Blue Kuban. Any ideas?

This thread is only to discuss the mod to defeat root/USB debug checks in the app. It's not really the appropriate place to discuss any underlying device incompatibilities the app may have.
All I can say is - the graphics subsystem in CM10 on all exynos4 devices isn't exactly in the best shape. There is a reason CM10 and 10.1 never received M or stable builds for any exynos4 handset or tablet.
TWC pushed an update today.
This update changed the name of one of the methods this module hooks, so the module needed an update.
In theory, Xposed modules should keep working through an update, but if someone used ProGuard obfuscation, method names change often and as a result the module needs updating.
Re: [Xposed][1/30/2013] Allow TWC TV to work on rooted devices and with USB debugging
Would it be possible to add a block for checking of vpn?

It checks for VPN? I'll take a look at that at some point.
The problem is, it's difficult to try blocking checks without a way to test the block, due to ProGuard obfuscation of the APK - You need to do a lot of reading to figure out exactly what the hell it's trying to do.
Although if there's a smali-hacked APK somewhere that does this, I can try and use androdiff to figure out what was patched.
Next on my list is HDMI.

Take a look at this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604411&page=9. They are trying to get hdmi and vpn to. Said they may know the smali code checking for vpn. Maybe you contact that dev and work together and get them both working. If I can help any way let me know. I don't hardy know any programming but I can poke around a little.

There's a good chance the network locks are done server-side... e.g. "don't allow it to work unless the connection comes from a Time Warner IP address".
