[Q] SG3 Data Connection Problem - Please Help - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I have a problem with my Samsung Galaxy SIII (Internationl version) it keeps turning off my data connection by itself for no specific reason, I need my data connection to be on all the time(I have an unlimited data connection plan) and I'm talking about the 3g/H connection not the Wifi connection, please find hereunder my trials to solve the problem:
- I installed Omega ROM V3
- Run "FastDormancy Toggle i9300 by gokhanmoral" to disable the FastDormancy
- Run BetterBatteryStats to check for "secril_fd-interface" after disabling it and I didn't find it
- The Data connection still turns itself off !!
Also when the data is off by itself, I checked "*#0011#" and I found that the RRC state is under IDLE state so I tried to send any messages using "Whatsapp" and other chat apps in order to wake the connection up but unfortunately it didn't worked.
Please note that sometimes the data connection icon indicator in the top of the screen is there but it's not working (with no green/orange arrows, just grey)
If I wanted to wake the connection I have to disable the data connection and enable it again, after that everything is working fine till it disabled itself again.
when my connection is up and running with no problems, I checked "*#0011#" and I found my RRC state switching between "DCH and IDLE" ONLY, does this means anything?
Then I wiped my phone and:
- I tried CyanogenMod 10 ROM
Did all of the above again and it didn't worked
-I tried CodecROM
Did all of the above again and it didn't worked
now I un-rooted my device and installed the stock 4.1.1 ROM and I have the same problem
Please HELP
BTW my network provider does not support the FD as I called them many times and they don't even know what I'm talking about.
My device specs:
Model Number GT-I9300
Android version 4.1.1
BB I9300XXDLID

Try this...
i have not encountered this problem you should try restoring/ formatting your device to stock Samsung FW.

Thanks beastify, but I just did that as I mentioned in my question and I still have the same issue

Maybe try not using Jelly Bean (4.1.1) and you should try a Custom Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.4) ROM or then the Stock Samsung Rom.
Jelly Bean still has bugs so i am guessing it is the problem.

It could be a problem with your network provider also. Why don't you put sim card from a different carrier and check ?
Sent from my GT-I9300 with a BIG

Beastify, I tried IceCream Sandwich but with no luck also
jaidev.s, this is a good idea but not recommended for me as I'm a customer with my carrier from a very long time ago and I have a VIP treatment, but I can give it a try, thanks for your help

SGS2 loses network / wifi and problems with data

I have huge problems with my SGS2 , after update ( I think so ) to official android 4.0.3 (I9100XXLPS) it constantly loses 3G network when not using SGS2 or browsing internet on it.
But it never loses network when talking with with someone , it keeps voice and data connection correctly.
It also loses both wifi / 3G network at same time when I am connected to net via wifi.
But thats not all...
Also happens pretty often that SGS2 sends some data but never receives response from network and for example net communicators like ICQ loses connection when it occur.
Tonight it lost 3G network which I picked manually earlier and displayed error that selected network is unavailable , SGS2 started looking for all networks and it found none displaying that there was error when searching for networks ( that error honestly happens very often even when SGS2 is connected to some network )
I tried of course wipe , even flashing firmware via odin but its always the same.
For now I flashed modem KI4 to see if it changes anything , but looking forward for any tips.
Try flashing a different kernel to help with your wifi problems like Siyah / Neak / Redpill and different modems to see if that helps with your signal / data
unfortunately ...
changing modem / kernel didn't helped ...
its still loosing network and don't wanna connect again until I reboot it.
Even exchanged sim card to new but no luck.
So should I give it to Samsung so they hopefully fix it ?
Sounds like a hardware issue... darn that sucks.

I have same problem in the interruption of Wi-Fi signal and data plan when i open some links in the browser .

earlier I had the same but now have also issues with connecting to any 3G network... it just won't find any until I do reboot
and I seriously have enough of doing wipes :/
Wanted some stable android device , not the one that needs wipes every week, earlier I had Galaxy Gio and were no such problems there.
I even started thinking about Iphone , but sad to loose all those applications that I bought at Android Market .
I used many roms and this rom is the best one check link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436854

Thanks for posting link , tho after reading issues list in this ROM , I won't even try it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25647503&postcount=28337
Also on most of those roms ( Cyanogenmod, Miui based roms ) 3G video talk and FM Radio is not working which I am using often.
chmmm I flashed NELP3 modem and is stopped for now loosing 3G network and generally data connection works better too just ...
exactly every 2 hours it closes data connection and connects again, maybe there is somewhere some hidden setting which sets maximum session time ?
You should wipe phone flash original rom and test if it fails return under warranty .
jje
hehe thats what I was about to do , wipe totally all data, from internal sdcard memory too. ( just 1st making backup of all data )
Then flash using odin the newest official firmware for my country.
ehhh after full wipe and flash well , it doesn't seems to drop 3G network , but does drop data connection every few minutes
and it does it even with sim card from different operator
so seems only samsung service for me :/
edit :
nah it drops also 3G network totally.
you are sure guys its not software fault ?
couse I read A LOT of threads on this forum and others , that SGS2 and other Samsung phones have this issue and they saying samsung knows it and working on it ...
Software ICS yes possible .
Test by flashing stock GB rom .
jje
seems its working MUCH better on Android 2.3.5 .
But .... Why my friend who have SGS2 and ICS ( same as me ) also same mobile operator don't have any problems with network ?
Seems will give it to Samsung anyway , as I wanted stable ICS :/

no point testing custom roms untill you know hw is proper.

S2 Wifi gets connected really slowly on ICS 4.0.4

Hi XDA-developers,
It seems to be an old problem, but it's quite annoying... I was hoping that the new released ICS 4.0.4 could fix this bug, but unfortunately, no.
My phone:
Android 4.0.4
Baseband: I9100XXLQ5
Kernel: 3.0.15-i9100xxlq5-cl753921
Build number: IMM76.XXLQ5
I was using 4.0.3. When I wake up my phone from screen lock, and then immediately turn on wifi, networks can be found and shown, there is a sign with a grey "?" saying that wifi networks are available, but wifi will not be connected immediately. Instead, it will freeze for a little while. Then it will do auto-scanning the networks 1 ~ 2 times, and connect wifi ~30 seconds to 1 min after.
I have tried pretty much every method that has been recommended: Wifi Fixer, Wifix Manager, change to static IP, change frequency to 2.4Hz, etc. However, I have to say no method worked.. Then I tried to update it to 4.0.4, expecting that the new version has fixed this bug. UNFORTUNATELY, it is not solved. The only problem is that it takes about 1 minute to get connected.
There is an issue which discussed this problem (not exactly the same, but similar, they suffered from totally frozen and re-booting).
Issue 28036 Android
Does anyone know how to solve this issue? I'm not sure if it is samsung's problem, or the ICS ' s problem .. Why did they "ignore" us???

Hi, I am using ICS 4.0.3 with XXLPQ Kernel. I have faced some serious WIFI turning on Problems for about 2 months, not paying much attention, however I am now frustrated with this time waiting process and restarting my phone when it shows blank face to me.
I have gone through all the forums and said, 2.4ghz enabling, proc-ing the mem bytes size for memory increment and other said restart tools. I have now tried my very own method that blinked in my head, I thought just why not reflash with the same kernel from my Phone using CWM manager. Clockworkmod Manager and then targeted the same old Kernel File to flash my kernel. Now it's working fully functional.
So I recommend, Give it a try, reflashing your kernel with CWM from your phone. If more details are needed, please message me, I will post the needed steps to do so.
the kernel controls your wifi, so try another kernel like the guy above me said

i has the same problem and make a reinstall with odin, and every thing is working nice although a did some test with a firm of argentina (I9100AROLP4) and this one are perfect.:good:
Just root your device and change your kernel can save your problem.I hope so.
Known problem; http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=28036. Rooting, installing Fardjad's WiFix, setting a country code (GB in my case) and increasing /proc/sys/vm/min_free_kbytes from 3606 to 16384 fixed it for me. None of that should be necessary on the stock firmware of a consumer appliance, though.
EDIT: Actually, if WiFi connects, it might not be this issue after all. It is a problem in many (all?) official ICS 4.0.3, though. If by "internet is still not working" you mean the stock browser force closes before you can do anything with it, you'll need to go into settings->applications->all->[browser name] and clear cache and data. You'll lose your bookmarks, history and cache, so back those up first if you want to keep them.
Hi , I updated to this same build version today (form the first post), and I did notice that the wifi is working, however the download arrow of the wifi icon on the notification bar keeps blinking all the time. Is this normal?

Are you on about the up and down arrows on the Wifi icon? This is normal this just shows the up arrow as uploading and the down arrow as downloading data. All part of the ICS UI.
Piece of advice root your phone install custom kernel and Rom. You will not go back to stock ever again!!!
Thx for the reply. Yes those are the arrows I'm refereing to, but the thing that seems odd is that whenever the wifi is connected the down arrow keeps blinking regardless if I'm using anything (apps or browsing) on the internet or not.
As for the custom roms/root, I will get to those yet.. First I'll try rooting and then I might move to a custom rom. I actually got very used to the stock rom, but I know once I start changing it will be a one way road.. lol
regards
I had a similar problem when I updated to ICS 4.0.3. I did a factory reset on my router which sorted it out.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
In my case it doesn't seem to be draining more battery, its just the blinking that I found curious...
Not sure the router has anything to do with it but I will keep this in mind for possible fixes...
thx

Your Wifi always looks for the router hence the down arrow downloading data which is very minimal. Your router gives you an IP address which lets you have internet. Your wifi checks for internet even if you are not using it. This is why its best to turn wifi off if you are not using it as it does drain your battery. Custom kernels have sorted this out when your phone "sleeps" it doesnt wake up even if your wifi is on.
Root first, Backup backup backup second, then install a custom kernel (this is the most important part of the phone) and then a custom rom. Seriously stock hasn't nothing on Mod. Think about it.....

Same here, I'm using the Stock ROM and my wifi keeps reconnecting it self even the signal is strong, and I still try to look for the solution. Please let us know if you work out the best solution to fix this problem.
I was having this problem, a firmware update for me did fix it though, but I couldn't connect to my home network for more then a couple of minutes and wifi fixers wouldnt do anything. But any other network was fine.
My home network is hidden so I think that was the problem, the phone not liking hidden networks.
Is yours hidden or not? Else I'd say try a factory reset if you havn't already.

Ok i think that i found solution. Hier's the thing:
First install original first firmware i mean on ice cream sandwich via Odin. After that do wipe and reset allsou clear cache.
Thats the 1st step.
Second go to sammobile and dowoad the latest version of jellybean. (Allsou via Odin).
XXDLI4 ( i cant post a links because i dont have 10more posts.
After installation do wipe / factory reset + clear cache.
Do not install jelly bean on jelly bean .( i dont know why but you must do like i said )
1st: ice cream sandwich + wipe factory + clear cache
2nd: jelly bean + wipe factory + clear cache
fix!!

Edit!!!
This is even better, delete all your saved connection in wifi settings..forget yours to.
Than connect again.
This is the original text from thread that i found:
"Mine never pops up. (Anymore) It did for one day after I used Wi-Fi once and the connection was saved to my Wi-Fi list. Then when I had Wi-Fi turned off & wasn't using it, that pop up would appear. Once I went in and deleted the saved connection, I haven't had that popup return. My wife did the same with the same results. "
This worked for me, plz answer if u fixed this prob.

NOTE:
if you forgot to backup your efc folder and if you have the same problem as me (look at link) this is what u have to do.
U need one phone and use it as hotspot, the galaxy s3 needs to connect with the mobile hotspot and when the galaxy s3 is connected to the hotspot must go to the wwb so some websites and then the phone who has the hotspot enabled needs to shutdown the hotspot while the galaxy s3 is still connected then the galaxy s3 must connect to the internet by itself.
This worked for me, i've restarted the galaxy s3 and i've shutdown the galaxy s3 and i still have the connectivity i hope this help you guys out!
After updated to latest nightly im facing no vibration issue
Would recommend full wipe and Install. I think this might help.
Hit thanks if I helped.
