[Q] init.d folder missing - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, I'm trying to install boot up scripts for GPU undervolting and Scoobydoo. I need to paste those scripts under /etc/init.d directory. I do find the etc folder, but couldn't find the init.d folder. I use Es File explorer on a Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE with JB, rooted and with Perseus alpha 25.1 Kernel.
Also I'm not able to create an init.d directory. It says "Operation failed". Is it already existing there and not visible ? Or is it a permission issue ? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Use a file manager with root and look for the init.d folder under system/etc if its not there simply create it

Create it with the script file inside and copy folder from PC to SD card and then copy and paste in system/etc using ESF
Then set permissions for both the script and folder to RWXRWXRWX

Im sorry but dont tell someone to set permissions for a script alot of scripts require different permissions and point to locations where specific permissions are needed
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium

What? This one requires at least 755, so 777 will allow the script to at least run.
And don't tell me what to do or not...

Hey, Thanks guys, I was finally able to create the folder. I tried all different settings but to no avail. Finally I re-booted the phone, and was able to create the folder.

Can't create new folder without root

Okay, I had this problem, that I can't create a new folder without root. It worked fine after flashing fserve v18a cfs kernel , it still can create a folder, but after a reboot, I can't create a folder nor rename anymore, but I can move and delete a file and folder.
I tried installing and using root explorer, it worked, but after uninstalling it I can't create a folder anymore. I am using the default one in cm7, astro file manager does not work either.
I checked the owner and group of sdcard under root explorer, it says both 0-root. I can select other options like system.
So can anybody use root explorer and check their sdcard owners? Or have another solution?
Thanks in advanced
EDIT## tried changing owners and groups but root explorer crashed
EDIT2### used file expert and I saw file permissions for owner not tick(read and write), but root explorer is ticked. File expert can't change the permissions and root explorer FCs.

[Q] Custom bootanimatin on Traveller DSC ROM

Hello Guys,
I am using Traveller DSC ROM 2.3.10 on my Dell Streak 5 and it is working flawlessly without any issues. However, I have been trying to load a custom boot animation and have been unsuccessful. Here are the error messages I get using different ways to copy/move bootanimation.zip folder to /data/local/ or /system/media/
1. Tried using file manager, already provided in this awesome rom : ERROR: UNABLE TO MOVE/COPY THE FILE
2: Tried Creating a new folder in phone memory: Error: unable to create a folder
3: Tried to give a command to push using ADB: CANNOT COPY THE FILE IN READ ONLY.
Please help me what else can I do to add my custom bootanimation.zip to my mobile.
The file manager included in the ROM came from CM7 and does not have root support. Use a root-capable file manager such as Astro or ES File Explorer to access /system/media and change the file.
Tried with no success

Thank you for your suggestion. However, I tried both Astro and ES File Explorer now and the issue still persists. If I try to copy and replace the existing bootanimation file it says that the file system is read only. Again, I tried creating a new folder, it says OPERATION FAILED.
Everything else works amazingly fast. Please help.
By the way, thank you so much for your ROM. You are awesome.
Did you make sure to enable root for ES File Explorer or Astro in their respective settings when you ran them? If you did that and it still doesn't work, then you somehow lost root when SuperSU upgraded to 1.75 last week.
Thank you

Thank you. It was my bad, I was trying to copy the bootanimation.zip to /system/media/ where the file was a read only and it was not replacing to a different file. I just copied it to /data/local/ and it worked just fine :good:

[Q] Google Play Services on Coolpad 8675

Hi,
A friend of mine recently returned from China with a Coolpad 8675, which he gave to me. I tried to install various apps such as Google Search and the Play Store, to no avail. This makes it impossible to use apps like Google+ and Ingress. This is quite annoying, and i was wondering if there was a solution to this problem. I really have no idea how android phones work or how to do stuff like rooting, so basic solutions would be appreciated!
Thanks,
LeCrazyPanda
same here
I am having the same issue.
I installed Google account log in service, and Google play store with successfully I even found those on the Chinese coolpad app store.
My trouble comes with trying to install Google play services, as even when I download it from the coolpad store, the install always fails.
SOLVED
Hi I have one and i had same problem.
First you must root phone, that is simple and here is instructions:
https://translate.google.cz/translate?hl=cs&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fsjbbs.zol.com.cn%2F166%2F1606_1657041.html
after that you can manualy install GAPPS.
I get Universal Pico from Paranoid then unzip it on pc and create this pack https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzMLUR1MF4g3RHBqQjBsTGlyVm8/view?usp=sharing
You must copy to Phone disk and manualy copy to system folder directories.
EACH FILE YOU MUST MANUALY SET PERMISSION 644
AND DIRECTORY \etc\preferred-apps\ THAT YOU CREATE MUST SET PERMISSION 755
After that you must restart phone and enjoy
For Copy and set permissions i use Root Explorer that you must manualy install from disk
Sorry for my bad English

I see all these files are APK's. Do I install them like regular APKs? Then how do I grant permissions? I have two left thumbs as far as technology is concerned, so I would sincerely appreciate someone guiding me, step by painful step. Thanks.

Do exactly as @Hagen656 says: copy ALL files from GAPPS, *.apk *.jar *.xml *.so into the corresponding folders from the /system/ folder on your phone. If the folder is not present in /system/ on your phone, copy the entire folder from GAPSPS. You don't have to install anything, just to change permissions to 755 for /system/etc/preferred-apps/ folder and to 644 for ALL files (including the ones from /system/etc/preferred-apps/).
To understand file permissions in Android, read this:
http://androidforums.com/threads/understanding-android-file-permissions.73177/
For changing file permissions, I used ES File Explorer, you can directly download the .apk from here http://www.estrongs.com/?lang=en
After installing ES File Explorer, you need to install ES Permission Manager plugin, which can be found here http://getandroidapp.org/applications/libraries-demo/93311-es-permission-manager-plugin-1-0.html
Pls how did you change d language of d coolmanager app

[Q] init.d deletes on its own on each reboot

Halo!
I have a Moto X Play running a 7.1.2 custom ROM.
I was trying to run some scripts on boot using the init.d folder, but since init.d was not natively supported by the kernel, I had to emulate it using Kernel Auditor. And using a file explorer, I moved my scripts to system/etc/init.d.
However, after a reboot, I found (using a file explorer) no init.d folder at system/etc.
Can someone suggest what might be happening?
Thanks a lot!
Edit: Its any folder that I create in the /system/etc folder. It deletes itself at reboot. Since init.d is not supported by the kernel, I created the folder myself. And I made sure the permissions were set to 0755.
