I installed CM10 and it was doing fine for a while, but suddenly any sounds other than the ringtone itself and the click sound of selections nothing plays anymore. Notifications/alerts are just silent even though they show up in the list and are apparently detected. Did I trigger some sort of bug?

I've had the same issue happening. Not sure which nightly it started with as I've been pretty much updating almost every day. I think I may just wipe and do a fresh install with the latest nightly build, though I don't want to
Go into settings/sound/volumes and try moving the sliders around, it seems to re-activate the sounds...

For me just pressing volume up or down fixes it.

The resolution for me (repeatable for the other notes that CM10 was installed on as well) was to go into a sound selection for some notification, pick a sound and then click vol-up a few times while it's supposed to be playing.

Hi guys,
I'm having a weird bug with SMS notifications on my S3, when I get a text it will cut short or sometimes not even play the notification sound. I've tried various tones, restarting the phone, changing the settings off - reboot - turn setting back on, but nothing is sorting it... Anyone else had this issue and been able to resolve it?
Thanks,
J
Same problem here, its totally random.
I've noticed this myself a few times as well.
I had it, I changed to a different notification sound and that fixed it. Not sure if you can go back after? Whistle annoyed me so didn't try.

Do you keep your phone screen down on a table, there's a motion settings to mute ringtones if the phone is placed screen down on a table.

I am having the exact same issue, although it only appears to do it with custom sounds that I have added, I have not been able to replicate it using stock sounds

thanks for that fireboypr. I've just bumped my message limit to see if this helps the issue and if this resolves it, will have to remember why!
Randomly, my sound will quit working. Ring tones, notifications, alarms, and music and other sounds won't play or make noise. A restart normally fixes the issue for a while. Anyone know what's going on?
I'm thinking maybe Android Tuner is closing a service for sound when the screen is off. Idk what service it is to even check though.
2/9/13: not really anything seems to be triggering this, actually. It just happens. Can't really replicate it, but it happens almost certainly now within 15 minutes.

No sound mod, no mods at all actually. Using the Nocturnal ROM.

This seems to happen when I either have the phone locked cause I'm not using it for a while or if I'm in a different sound profile.
EDIT: Also, when this happens, PowerAmp, not sure about another media player, will not play music. Pressing play changes the icon to the Pause button like a song is playing, but the file will stay at 0:00.
Seems that the play store, Google now, or maybe the task manager is killing my sound. Any ideas?
Also, voice features don't work when this happens. Nothing I do like changing ringtones or playing a game starts the sound up again. Reboot is the only solution.

Seems like its something we can't really pin down. Personally I'd probably just try wiping a bunch of stuff and reinstalling.

Yeah, I did another full wipe, even though I've tried several, and it seems to be gone now. Knock on wood though.
I cleared a bunch of old folders from my external sd card before the last wipe so that may have affected it. It was taken out of another phone, and I didn't format it to clean it, so who knows.

It is my understanding that Nocturnal Rom has the sound mods built in, so you are using them.
I have the same thing on mine using the mod package on The Base Rom.
Hey guys, I am wondering if any of you have experience issues with the built in alarm. Mine sometimes does not tend to ring anymore
after updating to jellybean from att over the air update. It will show up in my notification bar asking to snooze it. When I click on this, the screen sort of freezes for a second and does not open the app. Even when I quit the app and try to open it, it just freezes unless I restart the phone.
Have you try clear data?

I will try that for tonight. It happens very randomly don't know why. I have not had any phone issues or updating issue or any of that sort. Except
for occasional lag but could be due to a lot of music on the phone

I had a few problems with my alarm before the update, but it seems to be working fine now. Just go download another alarm clock app from the market. I know it won't look as good, or feel as good as stock, but it's worth a try If your waking up late for work every morning.

Hey, seems that clearing the data has worked so far. I don't know whether its working because of that or not so still waiting till it hangs again. As for downloading a new alarm clock, that was the first thing I had done. But it seems that didnt ring eiher. So i think this was a problem with the phone having to ring,

Holy zombie thread, man!
Try unchecking the Google Now "OK Google on all screens" setting.
One every 4.2.2 ROM I've notice that once an incoming call comes through the phone will ringer for about 3 seconds then the ringer goes out and continues to vibrate. I saw another post where someone said the issue is custom ringers but I'm using the stock sounds. Any idea how to fix this?

I don't have an issue with my ringers. I have custom ringers (mp3's), and system ringers (ogg's) and they all work and play for the duration of the rings. I have them all moved to my internal memory. Maybe that helps?
I'm currently on Paranoidkangdroid and I use to be on SOA, and FJ's with no issues either.

I never moved my stock sounds so they should be on the internal storage. Strange. I'm on slimbean now but its happen on other ROMs.

I am having the same problem and find it to be ROM agnostic. I have tried several different ROMS including JellyBam and Slimbean with the same problem of one ring & multiple vibrations.
The only thing I can think to try is to take the current preferred ringtone and, using an audio editor, create a new ringtone by copying the ringtone and paste it over & over (a few times) to create one longer ringtone.

I finally looped a ringtone using an audio editor. I looped it six times with 1.5 seconds silence between each ring and you cannot tell the difference between it and a properly cycling ringtone.
Would rather it worked properly, but this work around will do the trick.
I recently installed Cyanogen mod 11 on my Droid DNA.
Overall I'm loving the look and feel of Cyanogen mod, but I'm running in to some minor issues with maximum volume. For some reason the max volume for the speakers is now much quieter than it was before.
I've tried various solutions, one of which is here, I found the file they talk about but I have no "Speaker" section, just many variations.
Has anyone else had this issue? Does anybody know how I could force the max volume to be louder out of my speakers? I'm using YouTube videos as a reference.
I am running it and don't have this issue. Is your speaker partially blown or anything. Is there any physical damage on the phone.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Nope, no damage to the phone. And when I revert to the stock ROM the sound is perfectly fine.
That's strange. Maybe I'm just not used to it. I haven't noticed.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yeah with me it was a big difference, I might try going through the sound config file on my phone and upping all the volumes by a few percent to see if that helps.

Yeah I believe I was accidentally using a nightly instead of a snapshot.
However a couple days after I fixed this issue CM updated to a newer snapshot, and the sound is broken again. Do you think I should report this as a bug? Or just wait for the newest update?

If you did a clean install and it's on a snapshot you can report a bug. But if you didn't do a clean install do that first and then if it's still there report the bug.
Please press the thanks button if I have helped you in anyway.

The handset is S-OFF, ROOTED, & CWM touch 6.0.4.5, with "Dna Official Stock Kitkat - Rooted" 4.4.2; Yes, sound was fine before the OTA notice came through prompting using santod040 packages.

viper4android Disables LPA
The only time I had ever had an issue was flashing a nightly dirty. I managed to recover the audio by installing viper4android.apk. The newer versions of V4A automatically detects if LPA (low powered audio) is enabled. It will give you an option to disable it, just tick that yes please button. Usually LPA only affects things like bluetooth audio so it wouldn't drain the battery as fast, but I know with previous CM versions they had a bluetooth audio issue. Most likely completely unrelated but there might have been a WIP that caused things to be construed. If another rom version works then i'd recommend just installing a stable release.
REMEMBER ~ you are able if you run stable :good:
This actually worked for me!
I downloaded Viper For Android, installed the updated drivers it recommended, then turned on "eXtra-Loud" for the phone speaker.
Audio is now just as loud as before.
Where's the thanks button? So that I can give you thanks.

Just wanted to pipe in with something that may be others source of low volume issues. I have had low volume on my stock Droid DNA for quite some time and really beat my head against the wall trying to figure it out. Turns out it was very simple for me but not terribly obvious. Get your phone out and look at the speaker grill (just below the Beats Audio logo on the back). Does it look a bit clogged? Mine was completely clogged (I don't use a case). I took out a toothbrush I use just for cleaning and cleared it up and my audio is nice and loud now. Just wanted to pass on this simple fix to try so others would see it.
Viper has been abandoned; what's a good ROM now?
