Anyone here using this app for Auto Brightness on AOSP/AOKP
If so, can we share settings?

Just installed after read your post. First impression: Awesome!!
This app may be the perfect addition to AOPK/CM9 Roms because it's a lot more intelligent than the stock auto brightness settings which are present at those custom roms.
Currently i'm looking after the right settings. What's your current status?
Did you meanwhile find any nice to know settings?
Meanwhile i read the whole instructions and found out my perfect settings.
1) There are several modes of auto brightness
I've chosen the dynamic mode because it adjusts the brightness level immediately when the environment light takes a significant change.
2) If Lux doesn't find your perfect brightness level you can easily go to the dashboard and adjust the brightness by moving the brightness slider to your desired brightness level. After you found your wished brightness level for the current environment you can push the "link" button to save the current brightness level to the environment light.
I did not do any more changes yet as i presume that those setting will be enough to get the perfect brightness settings
What's your experience?
Reinstalled, gunna try it again!
my test settings ;-)

Hi All,
Could you please point me on the file that has settings for auto brightness? I want to increase the range, the stock one is almost unnoticeable.
Thanks in advance!
Xperia S does not have auto brightness in both Gingerbread or ICS.

What you are saying? Sure that Xperia S have auto brightness ! You probably are not able to set it
It has auto brightness xD
Try to buy some glasses...
But without custom rom or app you cannot control it.
Cyanogen mod or app ( widgetsoid) can control it very easy.

It has auto brightness. You can go to the Service menu, Sensors section and there you will find Light sensor, there you will see its current values, as far as I remember they are 0..12 or so, but that doesn't really matter, I want to find where the dependency between Light sensor value and brightness is coded.
You should ask some rom dveloper for some info :-/

It has auto brightness, but only the smarts can see
I found this useful post.
In ICS we have it in /system/etc/als_curve and there we have 4 folders: 0, 1, 2 and 3 with limits and parameters. I assume these are 4 zones of brightness (0-25% on folder 3, 25-50% in 2, 50-75% in 1 and 75-100% in 0).
We have to change the parameters, as in the post I referred, but personally I didnt understand almost anything, so we need to try... If someone will be trying too, let me know your results!
I have found an easy way to set auto brightness and it works beautifully:
Download and install quick settings.
When you are in quick settings, tap "customize", tap the small tool icon next to brightness, and you will be asked whether to enable light sensor.
Once enabled, you will be able to use auto brightness through quick settings app.

Why couldn't they just add the option into the settings like everyone else??? Is it really that hard?

That is their style.
Go and send them mail to change it.

It is enabled by default even without 3rd-party apps. The reason of all this is to make its range bigger, more noticeable.

I also really don't understand why Sony cannot put this option just in the brightness settings.... I have had a long time thought that the SXS doesn't have auto brightness at all but dunno that its in fact hidden somewhere which can be called out easily by a 3rd party app !

It does have auto brightness, it just works a little different from what we're used to so far. You can find the brightness control in Settings->Display->Brightness (at least that's where you find it in Gingerbread). Now, the thing that creates so much confusion, is that this control shouldn't be called Brightness, but Visibility. What the phone does (and imo this is really clever), is that you move the slider to adjust the visibility of the screen best suited for your eyes and then the phone will automatically adjust the amount of light the LEDs glow using an intrinsic curve so that the same visibility is provided outdoors and indoors. You can test this. Set the slider halfway and then go outside, in the sun, and cover and uncover the light sensor a few times. You will see that the screen is dimmed and brightened up while you do that as the phone tries to maintain it's visibility to the setpoint you chose by moving the slider. Simple and clever, huh? What some may argue, is that the brightness variation is not aggressive enough, and they may have a point. Personally, I don't need to move the slider more than 20%, as the screen is perfectly visible even on a sunny day (of course, that is unless the sun directly reflects in the screen, but I found this happens only if you hold your phone on purpose and it is not a comfortable position).
Hello,
In my lt26w there is no Visibility submenu. But it looks like the application "quick settings" has make a trick.

On my MB870, I'm running CyanogenMod 9-20120814-Daytona Beta1 with Go Launcher EX and I'd love to figure out how to set the screen brightness to a lower setting as I read alot at night and the lowest setting I can achieve in Aldiko reader is still too bright. I see the custom settings in the automatic backlight/ light levels/ use custom... but i cant see how to figure out shat does what. Can anyone 'shed some light' p) on these adjustments?
Download Root Dim from the Play Store. It has custom settings that you can adjust brightness with the simple touch of a shortcut in your homescreen. It works great. You can set the brightness for 5 different levels, I believe, and its easy as cake to toggle between them or select one individually.
Thanks for that app tip. Dn loaded it. Handy app. However it doesnt affect Aldiko reader. I would guess Aldiko is using sys defaults? For thebrightness range and isnt impacted by the settings in the other app. Can i reset the system levels?
I use the power control widget it always works...

Aldiko reader seems to have its own set of display brightness levels
Cuz adjustments in Root Dim app don't impact the Aldiko reader brightness range.
How can I change the brightness levels on the s3? I would like to have a lower brighter level than the minimum level and be able to lower all with the brightness bar. I tried going into framework-res.apk and lowering some values for auto brightness in array.xml but that didn't work. It just gave me a black screen and sent me to the lock screen whenever I tried to adjust the brightness. I know that there are apps that can lower screen brightness but I would just like to do it with the brightness adjuster and save a little memory. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
I found an answer to my question. It involves going into service.jar, system.apk, and SystemUI.apk and making some changes. Found the information in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576356
Although, this thread is for the Samsung Galaxy SL, much of the info appears the same for the S3. Will be testing and updating later
Or u can use "Eyesaver" app its wery nice
Does anyone know any way to get a lower auto brightness flashable zip without having to install a different ROM? Or direct me where to find it. I have looked around the forums and haven't seen it.
I would greatly appreciate it
use velis auto brightness app in play market.
