[Q] Warranty Claim Question [SOLVED] - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys.
I'll keep this short; my i9300 is bricked. It hangs on the initial boot screen and won't allow me to get to stock recovery. I can get in to download mode, but I can't flash anything. Every time I try, odin hangs on "get PIT for mapping" for 10 minutes, then fails. The same thing happens on 3 different PCs. Two of those don't have Kies installed and one is running Win XP.
So seeing as I can't flash anything at all, I'm going to send it back for a warranty repair. Problem is, I'm a bit worried they'll reject the claim, saying my warranty is void. The phone was unrooted at time of brick, but in download mode it says this:
Product Name: GT-I9300
Custom Binary Download: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Custom
The phone wasn't rooted and was using the latest official 4.1.1 BTU ROM. Should I be worried about them rejecting my warranty claim or saying it's void? If so, what should I do? Perhaps I could brick it even more so they can't access download mode and view this information hehehe.

As your device says "custom" they will reject your repair claim, you probably need to flash a .pit or repartition your device.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium

Run Triangle Away
Flash stock or provider rom via din boot and factory reset .
Check status .

But my issue is that I can't flash anything. I've tried flashing a pit file but it didn't fix anything for me. My phone is stuck in an unflashable state. I can't run triangle away because I can't boot Android.
So do I now have a paperweight or will Samsung offer a paid repair? If so, does anybody know how much they'd charge for a mainboard replacement?

I've just received my S3 back from warranty. Despite the status saying custom, it was still fixed for free. The whole mainboard was replaced and I wasn't charged for anything, excluding postage to my online retailer.

[Q] Soft-bricked I9100, doesn't write anything from Odin

Hi *.
My I9100 [soft]bricked. Today neerajganga was trying to help me with it [thanks!], but we ended up where we started.
In last month I had few /data corruptions - phone freezed and cleared everything after reboot [I'm guessing fsck failed to recover], I though it was WIUI/MIUI rom instability.
Last week phone freezed but after rebooting it was stuck on siyah kernel logo. Also couldn't get into recovery mode - stuck on samsung logo with yellow triangle. I found that thread, downloaded ICS rom, flashed everything. System booted. So I've flashed siyah kernel again and restored rom from CWM backup.
Two days ago phone freezed again [damn!]. But this time, even though Odin showed no errors while flashing, it still had siyah kernel and freezed on it's logo.
Today we spent with neerajganga over an hour trying to flash ICS rom, bootloader, modem, pit, etc. Later we tried GB versions. Nothing changed, still Odin "thinks" flashing went ok [progress bar on phone moves nicely] but after restart phone has yellow exclamation and freezes on siyah logo. Looks like phone cheats Odin about writing kernel/rom, while ignoring all data.
I'll try USB JIG as soon as I'll get my hands on it, but according to neerajganga it probably won't work because I have new ICS bootloader.
I'm guessing faulty nand memory is causing those problems. Phone is still on warranty, but I can't return it until I get back to stock kernel/rom. They would probably reject it and cancel my warranty. Or maybe I can somehow "nicely" brick phone into state where nothing can be seen...
Any ideas? I really need that phone to work [24/7 access to business e-mail :/]
NAND is stuffed. Some JTAG repairers can repair these now (like these guys, for example). Or repair by Samsung/authorised repairer & hope they either don't care or can't tell it's been messed with (otherwise you'll end up paying to have it fixed).
You've exhausted all possible fixes anyone here can off. 'Or maybe I can somehow "nicely" brick phone into state where nothing can be seen...' Accordingly, I've asked mods to close this thread. What you've asked there is straightup fraud.
"I really need that phone to work [24/7 access to business e-mail :/] " If I really needed a phone to work 24/7 for business, I would not be flashing non-stock firmware which is experimental in nature in the first place
Tried to install the rom XXLQ5, this is the last leak
And how's that supposed to help exactly ?
Thread closed
There isn't anything left to try here, and encouraging fraud isnot something we allow here on XDA.

[Q] Shipping back to Samsung

I recently rooted my phone and installed the Carbon ROM.
I had taken this option as my Phone kept on freezing mid-app or just whilst it was locked.
My option was to try flashing a stock rom, the problem persisted.
I then took it upon myself to install Carbon in an effort to fix it.
Everything has been fine however the phone kept on freezing every now and then and then today it froze I restarted it (removed battery) and I this screen for the first time?? imgur/jGA9mYB.jpg (<- add .com I can't post external links)
I then went ahead and tried to boot into Recovery Mode but got the exact same screen
I can however boot into Download Mode just fine?
I then went and tried to flash a normal rom and got the error that there wasn't a PIT Partition (something like that)
And so after a lot of googling I managed to find a PIT file and tried to do that however it is always getting stuck on 'Mapping PIT File'
I then went ahead and called Samsung and they've arranged for delivery which is coming tomorrow but I've got a few questions if someone could help me thats shipped something before.
The guy on the phone told me that I only have to send the Phone no Battery no SimCard no SD Card and No Back Cover.. is this correct?
How do I ship the device? Shall I just package it?
I have no shipping sticker or address to put on the front of the parcel? Do they just pick up the package and then send it directly to them?
In Download Mode this is what it shows, I noticed it says 'Custom' will Samsung still fix this?
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME:
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: NO
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
Thanks!
Shipping follow instructions and common sense .
Fix .
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom = Warranty void .

[Q] A way to brick or put phone in a state so technician cannot check flash count?

Firstly, I want to make it clear that I cannot reset the flash counter due to the "emmc brick bug". My phone won't accept any flash via Odin etc at all (hangs at NAND write start). I've tried many times with different cables, computers, software versions.
So my phone is pretty much useless but I still have warranty. The point of this thread is really how could I maximize my chances of getting Samsung to do a replacement?
To the experts out there, what state would I have to put my phone in JUST ENOUGH so that it is impossible for the tech to see the flash counter (hence voiding warranty)?
Background story: I was using my phone one day (never rooted it) and it suddenly froze, I power off and power on and bam... bricked. So I tried to flash and fix it, however... did not turn out great. So I wasn't screwing around with any flashing just bad hardware, I hope this is a good enough reason for a replacement.
So essentially you want to defraud Samsung ? You voided your warranty the moment you increased the flash counter.

[Q] possible dead sgs3 with sds ?

hi all , my phone died about a week ago, ive tried flashing it with all sorts using odin, tried the kies restore method aswell all to no avail,
I cannot get passed the white Samsung gt-i9300 writing , I cannot boot into recovery, I can however get into download mode, odin recognises the phone, but whatever I flash it wants a pit file for, and when I input various pit files it just gets stuck at mapping pit (something like that)
displayed on download mode is the following :
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME :
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD :NO
CURRENT BINARY : SAMSUNG OFFICIAL
SYSTEM STATUS : CUSTOM
FIRSTLY notice there is no product name , upon reading up on this it means the phone has suffered sudden death syndrome, firstly if this is the case is there a way I can fix it?? secondly if not how likely is it that Samsung will fix it ?? considering it has custom firmware on it ?? shoud the custom firmware matter as from what I read its to do with a bad emmc which is hardware right ?
any advice or help will be appreciated
thanks

Nothing you can do, motherboard needs replacement. Your binary count is zero but phone was rooted, even so you should be able to get a warranty repair.
Contact Samsung and tell them SDS has happened.
Also, questions go in the Q&A forum, not general. A search would have returned many similar posts.
I have a probably soft bricked i9300 that I have inherited from my brother. Since it is almost impossible to do anything with my HTC Desire, I would like to get this S-III running and use it.
According to my brother's explanation Viber was locking on the Phone so he got into recovery menu, pretty much pressed every option that he could found without knowing what he is doing. You may call it a monkey test. He is kind a over-confident non-technical guy.
Now the phone stays in non animation Samsung i9300 logo. Phone does not charge, I can get into download mode. Odin tells that it can't find the PIT file and When I give PIT file, it does not do anything.
Download Mode Screen Says
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME:
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: NO
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
My questions are:
- Are there anything like a wiki page that puts everything together, so that I can see if I miss anything? I am not familiar with the android jargon. I am having hard time understanding all the parts. For example there are several PIT files, which PIT is proper for me?
- If nothing can be done with Odin/Kies/Heimdall, can someone connect with JTAG and correct it?
- Are there any professional who can make this JTAG (or whatever operation) for me that I can find in this forum? (Device is a grey market item so Samsung service is not an option for me)
Best regards
Zorbey
Product name is blank, emmc chip is blown so new motherboard required. If you searched and read this post why ask the same question?

Samsung repair center says unit is beyond economical repair

So, my phone got stuck in a bootloop two weeks ago, I tired everything I could and nothing worked. I even went to the Samsung experience shop in Best Buy and they tried flashing stock firmware and also tried resetting my Samsung galaxy s6 edge but it was still stuck in a boot loop. So, last week I sent my phone to a Samsung repair center in Texas.
Today I got the phone back with a letter saying, "Dear ......, Thank you for giving us the opportunity to ensure that you have the best experience with your Samsung product. We have performed a thorough examination of your device, and it has been determined that the unit is beyond economical repair. The unrepaired device has been returned to you. If you have further questions or need additional support please do not hesitate to reach out to us at 1-800-SAMSUNG with your service ticket number: ........."
Also the phone has NO physical or water damage, and it has not even been 2 years since I got the phone. I am beyond frustrated right now. I am going to contact them and talk about this, but I am sure they will just repeat what this letter said.... Do you guys know how I can deal with this problem?
Why don't you just flush a new rom? If you can go into recovery mode you should also be able to into dowbload mode as well. If that's the case you shoul be able to flush an original samsung ROM (download from sammobile.com). Search the forum for a tutorial on flushing samsung rom with Odin

I tried what you said before taking it to Samsung experience shop in Best Buy and later on sending it to Samsung repair center.
I have no clue but it could be something with the encription
But flashing stock shud normaly fix that.
If you dont care about flashcounter you could try another rom
If it is only bootloop and you can flash the stock roms, why not flash twrp recovery and flash every custom rom you can find here in xda. I bet one of those roms will fix it (wait 10-20mins before flashing another rom).. Downside is if your knox is still 0, custom roms will trip it and your warranty may become void.
Tip: Before flashing a rom in twrp, wipe everything (data, cache, system, dalvik, internal). Then format data (type yes)
Good luck!
