Hey again, as usual i don't post something unless i feel that something is being left out or forgotten.
Nothing big but as you may know we xperia play verison or (CDMA) users are often forgotten in rom development. That's where i come in
i feel that the cdma xperia is neglected and does not much dedicated support. One example is GB roms. If you didn't know (or it does not affect you) when trying to install a R800i ROM to a R800x phone after the bootanimation you usually get stuck on a blank or slightly gray screen (depending on the rom makers theme.) It is VERY annoying and it is IMPOSSIBLE to get past it. But i have threw together a little patch for VERIZON CDMA USERS ONLY!!! that corrects this issue. to use is very easy.
just flash this zip immediately after flashing your GB rom of choice!! and boot
NOTE:a small FC will appear, THIS IS NORMAL! And then the verizon setup will appear. done!
Also: THIS DOES NOT FIX CDMA 3G/4G SERVICE!
THE PATCH IS FIXED AND READY TO GO!!
DOWNLOAD
I'll have to try this out sometime. I just recently got MIUI installed onto my device (thanks to CosmicDan). I've always wanted to try the Gin2JellyBean ROM and the True Ancestor ROM. Thanks for this, I'll definitely try this out soon. :3
So is this a CDMA patch to allow any GSM rom to he installed then flash this patch and it will work? I spent months trying to get a working cdma patch but to no avail. Best I got was a the dialer wouldn't force close and it would attempt to make a call but would then just sit there. Ill have to try this out.

No it doesn't fix cdma, I tried it with Dixperia. And it booted to show the homescreen and just sat there with "no network available." Up in the notification bar.

He made this to make GSM roms run on CDMA devices, the purpose of this patch, if I'm correct, is to help these GSM only developers develop for CDMA users, and wizard CDMA developers can take care of the signal, then make a full universal patch within the near future. That's my perspective.
I'm impressed either way!
It took this long for this to be released? Surprised no one has done this yet for locked people. Good job!

I thought he was asking if this fixed network for cdma, which your right it doesn't. But oh well I was wrong in my post :silly:
Anyone else getting an error code when attempting to flash this? I get the "status 6"........ or am I missing something something and this is not supposed to be flashed?
No I got the same thing. I took the files from his mod and added them to the rom I tested. I think the binary in the zip is bad but I'm not sure.

Just to clarify... this DOES NOT allow me to use the phone features of a GSM rom on my CDMA device right? It just fixes the phone from freezing when flashing certain GB roms correct?

yes this ONLY allows you to install any gsm rom on our cdma phones no network
Just tried to instance the system.sin for a stock SE based rom and got kobworking homescreen. Just a tip though flashing true ancestor the rom works out the door without the need to flash this patch but again nobworking phone functions and none of the aokp, ft5, cyanogenmod cdma patches work. So if you just want a working device with no phone functions then the true ancestor works out the door no need tobflash this patch.

REQUEST & POLL - Looking for Dev(s) to help create CDMA Patch, for SE Based GSM Roms
I am sure I will get a notification that I need to place this is another section, but I wanted to post this where all the devs can see it.
Myself and a few others have been discussing working on creating a CDMA patch that will allow R800x users to flash any Xperia PLAY GSM rom to our phones, then flashing this patch to allow us to use our phone as if we flashed a CDMA rom.
If any dev or devs are interested and or would like to participate myself and many many other users would be extremely grateful as it would greatly increase the choices of ROMs that we can flash.
If anyone is interested in seeing this happen please post in the POLL above.
This patch would be for Sony Ericcson based GSM ROMs, like True Ancestor, JokaWild, etc. Not CM7, CM9 roms, as I am aware there is a CDMA patch for that.
This already exists. Check the first post of this thread.

It does not already exist. The thread your linking is has a zip file containing the baseband libs and build.prop edits for certain roms to work but it is not a "CDMA Patch"
The CDMA patch that is being talked about here would contain a modified SemcPhone.apk , which we currently do not have for the newer firmwares
Here is a link to the Old CDMA Patch that was used for UK firmware [.145] to work on the R800x, It will not patch 2.3.4 UK firmwares or the ICS Beta.
http://db.tt/HOi4V4by
He is also possibly referring to the ICS Beta. That converter zip only works for roms that are based on CM9. As little use as I believe this CDMA patch would have, I still support it, if only for the fact that I'm using an R800x, and acknowledge that there's a lot we're left out on. Getting CM9 to work is easy enough, and CM7 works as well, so I would think it's possible.
No, we have a CDMA patch for CM9 already.
It's as plain as can possibly be! We need a CDMA patch to make GSM ROMs based on real GB work on the R800x. Examples would be True Ancestor, Gin2ICS, etc. Ideally, we would get something that works on 2.3.4 and up. CM7 is optional but frankly not nearly as interesting as the others, imho.

Yes, this is what I am referring to. I am aware there is a CDMA Patch for CM7, CM9. What I am hoping to do is get enough interest in a CDMA Patch to allow R800x users to use Sony Ericcson GSM ROMs on your PLAYS. Such as you mentioned, True Ancestor, JokaWild, etc.
My coworkers old android phone was a CDMA varietn (HTC I believe) and he said his old phone had a CDMA patch to allow it to use the GSM ROMs for the same phone on his. Yes I realize different manufacturer, thus different framework, etc
So yes, CDMA patch for Sony Ericcson GSM Roms to run on our R800x.

The thread contains a flashable zip that you flash after flashing a GSM rom that makes the rom work on R800x. Only for CM9 though.
This is different from the "CDMA Patch" that was floating around previously.
EDIT: Though it doesn't have the verizon APN settings built in, apparently.

No, it's 2.3.3, there isn't an ftf file for 2.3.4, doubt there will be either..Plus the 2.3.4 update is majorly flawed so it'd be easier going with 2.3.3. No baseband update or "upgrades" in the 2.3.4 update anyway

That's the 2.3.3, I think. 2.3.4 is the most recent, but we don't have kernel sources yet. And since it probably won't be pushed to SEUS, we most likely won't have an .ftf for 2.3.4

Hows it going? If you need someone to beta test the ROM at some point I would be happy to.
I am kinda new to all this. I just inherited the thunderbolt from my brother bc my other phone is dead. I am rooted and s-off running santod's Official Thunderbolt ICS deoxed debloated. My question was if I am able to switch to one of the older ROMS like NuSense ROM or UnSense ROM or anyone for that matter that I feel like. I know the process of flashing since I have gotten this far, but I don't want to flash these and then be in some sort of loop with problems.. Thanks in advance:good: Also are radios universal or.. I keep seeing people say just try a different one?
You can flash any ROM you like.
As for radios, look in the post about the ROM, they usually specify what radio is best for that ROM. The newest radio is defiantly needed for the new crop of ICS ROMs based on the official OTA as the older radios cause issues.
Only thing I can add to the first response... Always make a backup first. So when you somehow get into a bad flash/bootloop situation, you have an easy way back to a working device. Also verify your download by checking it's md5 code before you flash. Almost (if not all) files you download will have it listed with the download link on the forum op you're getting it from.

Not responsible for damaged phones, use at your own risk!
I installed the Stock rooted T Mobile rom by Scrosler posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2459677
After flashing that rom from recovery, I used Scrosler Stock loki'd ATT boot img found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45755689&postcount=3
After booting, you have to setup an ATT APN. I used this one found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41717915&postcount=9
APN settings are found under System settings / tethering & networks / mobile networks / access point names / "menu soft key" new apn. Be sure to save when done.
After this you have a completely functioning T Mobile rom with theming for the home launcher on your ATT D800
Of course build prop will need to be changed to ATT settings, but will work as is.
Thanks to Scrosler for all the need files and his time to do this!
Edit, you can load the build prop from clean Rom 1.1 to get it back to ATT.

looks like you forgot step 2 in the original post (flash the att loki'd boot image). reboot to recovery using the hard keys (see this post for steps, copy the att loki'd boot image to your phone and flash with TWRP and you'll be good to go. or, you can restore your backup from TWRP (assuming you made a backup).
thank you so much I am back in to recovery and flashing my nandroid backup. I am going to give this another try but want to just clarify that I am doing it correctly. If I understand properly I need to flash the T Mobile firmware. where I need the clarification is do I just simply put the boot image as the second file to flash so that they flash one after another, instead of what I tried the first time which was to flash the firmware first then go back into recovery and then flash the boot image which is what screwed me up first time. Does this sound like I have it under control this time
Why did you do this? The only plus so far I see is you got rid of the att on the left top corner?

Nope, I can post a launcher later, I have them working fine on my AT&T G2 running CR 1.1
Also, just an FYI, you can use the Korean version and the Verizon version as well...
But on the Verizon version the kernel is built to read the sensors different and you will need to swap the kernel modules because of this.
Also, you can swap the APN file too before you flash and yo wont have to worry about APN's.
Just sayin....
Oh and one other thing...
I accidentally deleted the boot.img so maybe OP can upload it please?
Otherwise I will make a new version when I get home.
I've spent the weekend trying to make a safestrap rom out the newest update from T-mobile. As far as I can tell everything is working the particular steps I did were
Disabled Wi-Fi in stock ROM before flashing
I'm not sure if this does anything but someone suggested this for fixing wifi not always coming up. I'm not sure if it matters but if you don't disable WiFi in the stock slot and WiFi in the SafeStrap slot doesn't work then mention it in the comments.
Create new rom slot of at least the default size
Flash vzwupdat.zip
Flash root, whatever other mods you may want
The kernel is still the old one, I just added the wifi drivers to the original rom to try and alleviate the issues that kept people from being able to turn on WiFi. I also added the build.prop and eri.xml from the stock Verizon ROM to fix T-CDMA64 showing as the Mobile Network.
Will you update now that the OTA for Verizon has been released?
The short answer is no. The Verizon update is the same software wise as this version. The modems were updated and some of the security binaries are updated. If you use this you are essentially using the newest software you could possibly use. Trying to modify Verizon's OTA to work with safestrap is going to be counterproductive because there is so much carrier specific branding and dependencies. This does include all the same camera updates, but to alleviate some of the problems that people have with call quality I will look into a flashable radio if someone else doesn't do it 25/10/13

On most ports from GSM to CDMA the eri is missing an entry to tell the phone "Hey, this network is called 'Verizon Wireless'." It keeps users from seeing the T-CDMA64 as their network provider. If you do flash it on your dev edition I just warn you that this was designed for being used as a SafeStrap ROM. It doesn't contain a boot.img and may not boot on the dev editions.

My only thing, and I'm new to SS so I know it's something I'm doing, is when I switch to stock slot and then back to where this ROM is, I've lost data on the custom slot. Like I clean flashed. Is there a way to maintain all my user data on slot 1 while switching to stock?

So basically you create a rom slot, backup to new rom slot, install your update, install su update, and boot to new slot?

Backing up to a new rom slot is really just to have your stock rom on that rom slot. All that is needed is to create the rom slot and then flash this zip.

Ok, I have it installed and running great so far...but as far as root, which Pwn version would I use? The Verizon one, the TMobile one, or none?
Thanks for developing for us. Stupid Verizon and their late updates!

Just about to post a link for the zip that I flash in safestrap for root.

Awesome work man!
Only one question before I flash this gem.
Does this cause any problems with safestrap??
I only ask because I flashed the tmo ROM the other day with no issues. Had data and WiFi working great. When I rebooted to get into ss I bootlooped like a son of a beotch. Had to fxz back to stock. Saw a few other users with the same problem flashing the same tmo ROM.
Can anyone comment on this??

If you have no issues then I wouldn't recommend changing a thing.

How can this be used on AT&T safestrap?

Theoretically you should be able to use it the same way on AT&T but it may just cause your network to say "Verizon Wireless" in the notification shade and the quick settings tile.

I've had no issues with reboots. I've turned off and on, rebooted to recovery and regular reboots and working great.
My only thing, and I'm new to SS so I know it's something I'm doing, is when I switch to stock slot and then back to where this ROM is, I've lost data on the custom slot. Like I clean flashed. Is there a way to maintain all my user data on slot 1 while switching to stock?

I do not believe this should occur. I would post over on the rootzwiki forum on the SS page because it is probably an issue with SS. Certain user data is getting stored differently because of how the Moto X is set up from what I have gathered. I know Hashcode just change in the new SS where he was storing certain things so that might be part of the problem. Make sure you are on the newest SS and post what occurred over there so hashcode can look into it.

Hi! I am rebel1699. I have done work on the S4 i337 (root for 4.4.2). Recently, I bought an SCH-R960 for something to do. After messing with it for a while, I have discovered that custom roms are indeed possible, but with some things that need work. Here is my current configuration
SlimKat 4.4.4
Philz Touch Recovery
As you may know, the touch recoveries do not respond to touch on this model. However, the vol +/- and power for select still work fine. After getting this ironed out, it was time to experiment. I downloaded SlimKat, and made a few modifications. Booted to recovery and made my nandroid. Then, on to wipes and install. Results---
Upon reboot, I was greeted with the "Warranty bit:kernel" on the top of the sceen. I didnt care. Warranty was long gone anyways. But, it booted into SlimKat just fine. Heres where the dev needs to begin. There is NO TOUCH. I even made a flashable of the stock 4.4.2 kernel modules, but still no help. Not unexpected, considering the recoveries do the same. Using my otg, I connected a mouse for navigation. It is indeed the custom kernel. WiFi, bt, and everything else seem to work fine. I cannot test cellular operation as I am not a US Cellular customer. So, there is another issue. I guess it could be possible to flash a correct radio. Not sure.
First things first---We need touch drivers working on this to go any further. We get that, and sky is the limit.
You probably have to backported the input drivers for your model
Just pull official kernel sources from samsung open modify the drivers of cm kernel

Same as I was thinking. Sound is also out, but I fully expected that to be the case. Pulling the sammy input drivers should also allow for a custom touch recovery to be modified for the device. TWRP 2.7.0.1, preferrably. I will see what I can do over the next few days. Just started using a new laptop, so I have to get the time to sit down and set up a new dev environment. But again, I wont be able to test cellular radio compatibility. I use AT&T, so nno good for that.
Personally, Im buying the i9200 intl for my own use. But ill do what I can to help these US Cellular folks. They have not seen any development at all. Craigslist is littered with this SCH-R960. I understand why.
Why
Why are you saying that the touch recovery's don't work on this model. I flashed philz on mine and used it to gain root. Worked just fine for me!

Because after flashing both philz touch and twrp 2.7.1.0 meliusltexxx recoveries, touch works on neither. The boot image does not contain the touch input drivers for the SCH-R960. Manual navigation is still operable
I guess you only have to enable some options in defconfig

The recoveries, and the roms. All either is lacking are those thing within thier perspective kernels. Roms will still need more work, eg...audio. And as I said, I cannot comment on the celluler end of it since I do not have US Cellular service.
Some of the roms need an edit to thier updater script to install. Others do not. They just have to be checked first. Just edit out anything that call to Format "0". I cant remember the mmcblk #
Any more progress with this? I have a sch-r960 and I would gladly help test roms or do what I can.
Cheers
helpfull

Did you edit the rom updater script before installing?
hmmmmm
not sure what to change other than specific model... it points to /system/xbin/touch, but there is no file there... yet in deodexedf stock rom the updater-script points to /system/bin/touch... which also is not in that zip either. gonna try to compile aosp then pull my touch file from phone i guess..... a bt difficult to find specific info at this point

Thank You for that. /bow
R960 vs I9205
What is the difference. Appear exactly the same in specs. Only difference appears to be the cellular provider. Has anyone tried to flash a I9205 to an R960 Mega 6.3 to see what happens? If so, what was the result??
