Longhorn: too small buttons (height) - Streak 5 Themes and Apps

I have a little problem with Longhorn.
It's the button height.
Normally, all buttons in stock Android are like this:
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-v2V9t8REn...kpBwtGMgWM/s1600/screenshot-1329214823390.png
(Just an example picture, please look at the button "fix market")
But my buttons in latest Longhorn were about half the height. (Same width, only the height)
Unfortunately I don't have a picture ready because I am currently on DSC (but will try LH again when the phoenix kernel (Thank you n0p) has advanced routing enabled)
This was quite annoying because I got used to "big" buttons.
Is anything known about this?
I already asked Strephon Alkhalikoi via PM as he is on Longhorn, but apparently he does not have this problem. His buttons are at "normal" size.
I flashed LH over a fresh install of 407.
Currently I have DSC over 366.

I guess I wasn't clear in my other post regarding the buttons. I use CM7, not Longhorn. On CM7 the buttons are normal height.

I thought LH is based on CM7?
Is this your ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1528412
First posting, the one by hPa?
What kernel do you use?
I guess the phoenix kernel for CM7 works for this too?

Longhorn is based on CM7, but Tenortex has made changes to his ROM that don't appear in CM7, and one of those changes or the theme he uses in his ROM may be the source of your problem. So you're going to have to ask him what is going on since he is the developer. The only changes I made to hPa's CM7 ROM, other than adding Sonny Sekhon's ICS theme, are to use Tenortex's patch to change the default orientation of the screen to landscape and the Phoenix kernel for CM7. The kernel should work for Longhorn, but again, you would have to ask Tenortex to be certain.

have you tried adjusting your DPI? long horn uses a value of 160 dpi.
use at least 200
look up DPI changers on the market

I run CM7 at the default DPI of 160 and as mentioned, have no issues. It certainly wouldn't hurt to set his DPI to the default however if it isn't already at 160.

My DPI was at 160.
I now tried CM7. Looks excellent.
Unfortunately tecorntex didnt answer here as I sent him a PM.

hey i have the same problem so shifted to LXdroid 0.2 366BB
have you got any solutions??

Stick with a ROM that is actively being maintained. I believe Tenortex now has a Galaxy SIII, which means Longhorn likely will receive no future updates.

baaahh i just saw this post now, after instaling Longhorn heheh
So wich one is updated now?

Well, if you want to stay on the CyanogenMod train, pretty much nothing is being actively updated. From personal experience you can use the original CyanogenMod 7 release by hPA with the current Phoenix Kernel by _n0p_ and have a device which functions well and with buttons not being cut off. Of course, you do pay a price for going with CM7: no updates, no dock support, phone dialer buttons possibly too small for the screen, and a camera that did not support the zoom feature the stock camera has.
DSC is being constantly updated and both extends and improves upon the 407 ROM Olleh KT released for the Streak. I was using CM7, but the camera and the dialer proved to be too much to ignore after time, so with a bit of prodding I went back to DSC.

Ok thank's, ill try the DSC now, hopping not to screw anything up..
Do you recommend any add-ons with it?
Cheers!

DSC 2.3 receives more frequent updates than any rom and it is the stable rom in my opinion..
Then comes PCM7 it also receives update
LxDroid 0.2 a future update is planned by the developer...

[ROM] Longhorn 1.3 Update 10-27-2011

Like most of us on here, we want a Fast, Stable, Usable Rom for our Dell Streaks and I am just like you in wanting that as well. I have tried most, if not all of the different flavors available for the Streak from stock to custom. What I decided to do was to take a stock image and make it faster and better. So after many trial and errors, weeks of research and testing, I came up with Longhorn. It is not by any means a final solution for the Streak, but a constant project of mine. So I will maintain it and upgrade it when I find a new way to make it better. I am open to suggestions as well.
Longhorn is fully customizable and is a good canvas to start with. It is based on Stock 354, and had all of the bloat-ware removed. Then slowly added different tweaks and custom Longhorn theme to make it what it is today.
What it has:
Longhorn 1.0 is overclocked to 1.267 thanks to DJ Steve’s kernel (works great without overclocking, but good to have if needed)
Rooted
Minimally installed Software
Net and system speed tweaks
I would like to thank all of those that have contributed to the making of this. It is kind of a Frankenstein made up of small bits and pieces that I have found from all over. Most of the credit goes to Dj Steve, Krad, Spidla, Mid_Life_Crisis, Chrisrotolo, NickShertzer, Frysee ,and everyone else I can’t recall. You guys rock!!
Longhorn 1.3 has;
Based on Stock 354 due to some installation issues for some
a few more Kernel tweaks
New Theme
updated APKs, Fonts and Boot Animation

The quadrant score u are getting is when your streak is overclocked? Can you run it at stock frequency and what's quadrant at stock?

Very excited to try this one . I am currently on Fards 2.3.3 I get the random reboot here and there other than that it has been working great just wish it was faster . Hope this is the one.
I love the Orange background wallpapper! Can you link that also please?
Can't wait to try out your kernel. SS 1.2 @1.19GHz.has always been my baseline for how fast a game could load.
Its great to see another ROM for the streak being released! I will give this one a shot later today!
Thanks tenorntex!
Well Done! Looks very nice. 1267 OC hasn't been stable since DJ Steves 1.6.1.
I would really like to give this a try, but this Husker is having a hard time installing anything orange!
Go Big Red!!!
kraz
@tenorntex
In looking through your zip. I noticed that you have chosen to leave out security.apk. I don't know much about it, but the name sounds important. Is there any potential problem by not having security.apk? Thanks for replying.

1289.
According to Quadrant Standard -> System Information, the frequency is 998,4 (I don`t have any other appropriate program installed at the moment).
Better to include any file manager for the beginning.
@Kraz
I have been using this daily for about 2-3 weeks with out any issues with that file missing. It is an engineering mode security file, and since I removed all of the engineering mode APK's it went away as well.
\m/ >o< \m/
Post-Install Update:
Installation is VERY fast...about 30 seconds. Installed over SimpleStreak 1.2 with PerfUpdate. Under 3 minutes to boot up the first time. Almost nothing had visually changed, which is good. My wallpaper etc. was the same. Only the orange status bar gave it away. Status bar icons are similar to what I had cooked in UTC. Chrisrotolo's settings screen. Notification dropdown has live action and looks good!
Overclocked to 1267 with no problem. Ran 8 quads: lowest==>1444 highest==>1920. About the same as SS1.2 running at 1190. LCD density is 200. Looks great and my tired old eyes can see everything well.
Phone is HC (chrisrotolo's?) and looks good. Works better than anything I have used yet. Hangs up a call instantly and returns to home screen per my On Call End app. My ICE lockscreen works properly for the first time also. So far everything works amazingly well. I did remove Swype, LauncherPro and a few other apps I don't plan on using. The included Market is a very old v2.1.2 and doesn't recognize that any of my apps are installed. They are however, and work well.
My only CON so far is the speed and potential battery usage due to having OC 1267. The speed is no better than SS 1.2 OC 1190. OC 1190 should yield better battery life than OC 1267, but I will have to use Loghorn 1.0 longer to find out.
One more thing.....NO FC"S SO FAR!!!!!!!!! woo hoo!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you tenorntex. WELL DONE SIR!!!!!!
kraz
That is true as with any form of overclocking. Speed = Battery Life. I am hoping to figure a way to increase the I/O speed to compensate, but that version is not anywhere stable yet.
Just to clarify...I wasn't complaining. Only observing.
Thanks for the obviously hard work!
kraz
I didn't take it that way at all. I was just doing some wishful thinking in a future release that I am working on.
Well done, mate.
I don't know if really the OC is any worth , considering the battery drain and CPU stress , while the benchmark difference between 2.3.3 without OC with this kennel is just nothing.

Make sure you don't have a SetCpu profile that is in effect.
ok switched to cpu master working good now but noticed there is no contacts icon
I added your rom the the master list on the wiki
Feel free to correct any details if something is off.
As your rom is based on 354 I would recommend NOT directly flashing the 354 amss/dsp1 and using the pkg if you still need to update to it.
This is my general advise for anything but SD 2.3
Rom is very fast is there any way to get the contacts apk for this?

[KERNEL] [WIP] Stock 354 Volume hack & slight overclock.

So.
I've took a look at DJ_Steve's work on kernel. As i need stock stability, but would like to do some slight changes, here they are:
+ Volume boost hack - increase allowed driver maximum. I can feel it on speaker on incoming calls, at least.
+ Slight overclock to 1075,2MHz. I've simply replaced values in frequency table, and not sure if it working at all. Doesn't break anything though.
How it's done? Modified stock kernel binary.
Here it is:
http://n0p.8bit.fm/streak/354VOL.zip
This update will also replace your postboot script, so save it before flashing.

This work is dedicated to my died kitten, it was really ill for a week and died at 12 october...
Sorry to hear about your kitten.
Thanks for the kernel. I like seeing more and more people active in the development for this great device. One of these days I hope to delve into kernel building myself.
Thank you. I just needed something to concentrate on...
Thank you for the Modded Kernel. I am glad to see others that are venturing out and trying new skills. Kudos Sir.
I would really like to get some feedback. Do you really feel volume boost?
I will try it shortly and let you know.
EDIT: So far it seems to work fine. It does appear to be louder, but not overpowering. More testing will be needed to be certain later today. I did modify the init.streak.post_boot.sh file prior to installing the zip. ( just to add what I already had, so I could tell if there was a difference.
Does anybody know where I can all thee stock dump files? I see a lot of people talking about 351, 354, 360.....what are the differences of each? Is there an advantage from one to the other? I in some respect do prefer the stock ron but without all the bloat ware of course....but that I can remove my self once I have that dump file so I can modify it....sorry.just a little new to the stresk scene, my previous phone and still present is my beloved Sony Xperia X10a

I like to think that the stuff I have linked in my signature might also be useful.
@ _n0p_ : the music hack seems very interesting. will there be any more updates on this? Maybe a performance mod like in 351? thanks for your work!!
Actually, "Performance fix" is DJ_Steve's kernel, which has Brain **** Scheduler and overclock patch applied. Why don't you use it?My point was keeping the stock one with simple binary change - as Dell don't provide sources.
--
Right now i'm using StreakDroid 2.4 (modded myself) - main change is almost (at least I didn't encounter any in two days) absent random reboots.
@_n0p_
just wanna verify if this kernel contains lowmemorykiller? because almost all custom roms don't have it... I have modded simplestreak 1.3 beta 4 and come up with let_the_game_begins v1.0 which composed of the following:
Theme: GingerKrad
Baseband: 403 (from StreakDroid 2.3 by fards)
Tweaks: ltgbnitro tweaks (collaboration of tweaks i used before with LG O1 P500, Samsung Galaxy Ace & the Nitro Lag Nullifier of V6 Supercharger)
Added some picked ringtones & notifications from Zedge
Default BootAnimation: DukeOS Duke Nukem Forever
The only concern i have in mind is the lowmemorykiller not available from different custom roms except for the stock ones..

MIUI 1.12.9 Fascinate/Mesmerize Rom UPDATE..12/13/11

This is a build ported from a vibrant setup, some tweaks that dfgas incorporated into the last few builds, some extra tweaks from here and there, and extended settings built in. It is very smooth and fast after letting it settle in for a bit.
Let me know how it is for you. You can wipe data or just cache and dalvik...I do all 3...enjoy.
Thanks to anyone that has a hand in developing for the fascinate / mesmerize...the list would be too long to write!
-as of 1.12.9...
-#911 issue fixed (thanks sbrissen, dfgas, & anyone else involved)
-modified default transparent lockscreen...live wallpapers show through lockscreen
-new 1.12.9 Fascinate link...
http://db.tt/enasc1vs
-new 1.12.9 Mesmerize link...
http://db.tt/LHY0AeKk
-as of 1.11.25...
-includes Glitch V13 kernel with working 3 button recovery (with updated screenstate scaling fix)
-new option of miui app drawer
-pick setup, then enable, wait a couple seconds for drawer to load up, then swipe down from top of screen slightly lower than status bar to pull down drawer (almost right at bottom edge of status bar)...takes a little getting used to swipe area as it is very small.
-new options of hiding signal bars and headset icons
-new option of appdrawer background color
-new "on the fly" statusbar layout switching (no need to refresh statusbar anymore)
-new options of autostarting appdrawer
-charging animation it top bar fixed
Here is a link to the v6 supercharger thread...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18703418&postcount=5021
I would suggest installing the latest supercharger script...http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=792186&d=1322022964 and the app script manager...http://market.android.com/details?id=os.tools.scriptmanager
Download both, change the supercharger scripts name from .pdf to .txt, install script manager, go into script managers options and turn on browse as root, then navigate to the directory you downloaded the supercharger script to within the app, click on it, select run as root, then run. Follow the scripts prompts, and as a suggestion, I use option 7. This makes the phone fly even faster at all times even with many apps open. I would have incorporated this into the rom, but the developer would rather you visit the thread to get it.
Downloading now. Thanks!
First impressions:
(Background: Wiped all three from "mounts and storage" menu)
Appears to be based off of MIUI Android (UK port of MIUI) as opposed to MIUI.US. Not sure what diffferences (if any) apply other than the bootani and background. Amiright?
Extended settings built-in is quite awesome.
Noticed MiuiCompass wasn't in there (but DSP Manager was...awesome again). Attached in case you don't have the apk and want to add it in the future.
MMS sent over 3G on first try.
I am not sure which market you bundled with it, but I always go in and remove marketUpdater and add back in the old vending.apk. (This isn't a criticism, just something I do that might be good to know in case I have future issues that may be caused by that mod...I know I am probably rare in liking the old market.)
So far so good. Now I just need to grow a pair and figure out how to swap kernels in the zipfile so I can throw Glitch v13RC1 in there; at which point I'll truly have my "Flash one-and-done".
Great work, Rick S. Can't wait for the full list of changes/tweaks! Thanks again.
Will this work on the Telus version?

Compass.apk should be in there, but thanks anyway. Basically if porting from a "stock" setup, roms wont differ very much at all, but another difference is that the reboot options are capitalized. I would love to have glitch v13 in there, but its not publically released yet. I do install it on mine though. All you need is the boot.img and the lib/modules folder...modules need to match boot.img that was built.

I wasn't suggesting you put V13 in there. I was just commenting on my own lack of courage to do it myself more than anything. Thanks for the tip though.
Been installing apps and such basically nonstop since install and listening to music on it. No issues. I did update to Glitch v12RC1 right off the bat as well.
So far, this seems to be about as stable as the 9-16 release which has been my fall-back. I've had the fewest issues with that one. Hopefully this one will be my new 9-16. (Will find out when I get home and see how it handles the wifi/3g handoff that seems to have been causing the most problems on the latest few roms for me)

Looks great Rick...thanks again. I had issues with the other '11' roms so far and was back on the 10.28. And also big.thanks for the easy instructions for installing super charger....I couldn't get then to stick a month ago....no problems this time ( used your suggestion....will tweak later after I settle in) only issue is google+ fc at start up. I don't use it so not a huge deal.....will uninstall and install new......phone is flying.
Edit: Re-install of Google+ did the trick. Can't believe how fast and smooth this phone is running now.
Thanks for the responses. Im going to update some MIUI mods and put links in the op soon...launcher mod and screen transitions are some.

GSM and CDMA roms/kernels aren't cross compatible. The phones share a name, that's it, they're pretty different when you get down to the nuts and bolts (or silicon and copper.)

Edit: Of course I flashed it, with the script. Running great. Overnight, battery stays in high 90s.
All I can say is wow!! This is by far the most responsive miui build I've ever used, running the script on setting seven as suggested running glitch v13 ml OC`d to 1440..very smooth, plus have all the reboot options again nicely done, thanks much sir!

I actually ported the MIUIScotland 1.11.9 ICS framework I9000 rom to the fascinate. It seems the only difference are a couple added files within the framework and a few files elsewhere, along with the version number in the build prop. Its not even worth playing with though. There are no noticeable differences anywhere. Waist of time just in case anyone was wondering or has heard of it.

[Q] ROM Toolbox

So I made this thread to get some feedback and stories from other people of their experiences with the ROM Toolbox app on the Samsung galaxy player 5.0/4.0 U.S. and International version. How have your experiences been? For me pretty much the app is useless because if you try to change anything it will throw you straight into a bootlopp. So before you use it remember to do a back up on you clock work mod recovery Anyway what have your experiences with the app been and what do you think of it?
On my 5.0 US using the GenericGinger rom, it doesn't cause any problems. Custom boot animations don't work on the default settings from stock, but are perfect on Entropy's kernel. You can change icons, but they don't always work correctly - I changed the battery icon to one with numbers, but now it only shows 20% increments (the icon supports 1%0). The build.prop tweaks do work - the DPI is quite handy, and it successfully blocks ads. However, some parts of the themng do not work - I have tried multiple notification backgrounds with no effect. I think it's well worth getting.
As a side note, are you running a deodexed rom? If not that may be your problem.

As a side note, are you running a deodexed rom? If not that may be your problem.

Yeah I'm using 2 roms actually one is Ergybits 2.3.6 based custom rom with and the other is tsnuras cm9 aokp rom. At this moment i am using the cm9 based rom, but when i was using the ergybit rom, it would always put me in a bootloop whenever I tried to change anything, i havent tried it on this one, because cm9 is pretty much customizable in every aspect so the need has gone away, but it didnt seem very useful to me. Concerning the custom boot animations, I heard that a lot of people had been having trouble with them at that in worst case scenarios it even bricked some peoples devices, so i didn't even try going near that.

[REQ] on screen buttons for CM9

I was on Paranoid Android, but switched to regular CM9 because I was having too many glitches with PA. One of my favorite features though had been the on screen buttons. I have no idea on what I'm doing with decompiling a ROM or anything, so is there anyway one of you wonderful devs could make a mod for on-screen buttons that works with the latest CM9 build?
If you really want them, I'll give you a zip later that enables them. They just wont look very good most of the time, if they show up. I haven't tried 6.1 yet, and plan too tonight, so I'm not sure how it will be. Just let me know what version you are on, and if you want the capacitive buttons disabled or not.
Yeah, I would like that. I'm on 6.1 and I don't really want the capacitor buttons. Thank you!
Ok, sorry it took me so long, had to work. I'm not running 6.1 so let me know if this doesn't work(but it should). I've also included a REVERT zip, just in case you want to go back to stock.

Thank you so much! They work like a charm, also I haven't noticed any graphical glitches with them. The blue glow stutters every now and then, but other than that they seem to work perfectly.
Hmmm... really? The animation usually is the start. try rotating the screen in different apps, see if it glitches.
Yeah no everything is working fine. The animation stuttering only happens maybe once in every thirty times, and even then it's only half a second. The buttons even disappear into dots in the gallery and camera properly
Sweet. Maybe I can upgrade to 6.1 now. Thanks
Aye, perhaps you can my friend! And just as a note, though I don't see how any of it will make a difference, when I was running 6.0 before dirty flashing 6.1 I had Chad's kernel installed, however it doesn't work with 6.1, I had also flashed the jelly bean animations, Awesome Beats Google Now onto 6.1. I then flashed your mod separately and wiped my dalvik and cache before and after it. Thank you again! Now if only the audio didn't glitch every couple of seconds this ROM would be absolutely perfect! (I have no need for 3D, 4G, or Bluetooth)
