[Q] like always battery and system, please help! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all, first of all before i posted this thread i read alot on xda, google and other stuff and tried to find answers.
Here is a lil bit info about my phone
1)well my last thread i posted is aboyt over heating problem and cpu control and no one actually helped my there, just one kind man told my about GETRIL app that checks if your ril matches your baseband because it is responsible foe the signal so this was my result:
Can someone tell why the hell they dont match?
2)My second thing is that i am runnig a costum rom(my company rom) but i removed all he junky file so its basicly a clean rom and i know but i am like an idiot using go launcher and in mg battery stat my systom os drain something like 25% battery, so what rom should i use???cm??and what the diffrence betwen the nighty cm and the 2 others?do i need to change me kernel if i am changing my rom?
3) my last question is: i backed up my phine using cwm and when i tried to recover it says "md5 mismatch" what should i do?i dont a pc only my phone because im in the army now for about a month so what should i do?
Thanks alot in advance

1. Your attachments are not working so you need to post the information about yur phone.
2. Custom rom creator may have have used a different modem (baseband0 from what came with the stock kernal. ril was for the stock modem not everybody remembers to update the ril when changing the modem.
3. what rom you use is your preference nobody can really tell you what is best.
cm nightly basically means the rom is recreated every night with fixes and latest firmware out. Others are created with the firmware that was leaked at the time of creation and updated with fixes only basic rom structure is not changed.
4. cwm may not have made a proper nandroid back up, you would need a computer to check why the md5 did copy properly.

i fixed the attached pics,so can you please have a loook and tell me what you think?
and what rom do you recommended? and what kerenel do you think is the best?
Sent from my GT-I9100T using xda app-developers app

1. you have a t mobile model, so that will make it a little more difficult to flash. As the file structure is slightly different from the international version.
2. ril is easily fixed, just download the recommended version.
3. you may have deleted some files that are shared. I believe T mobile needs certain branded files to work properly.
4. Kernal try siyah, it helps with most phones.
5. Rom I can not recommend any because I am not sure what will work safely on a t mobile phone.

thanks for your help!
1)what the deiffrence between t version and the others?
2)i downloaded the ril tyo can see that it is match in the pic,i think that i need to change my baseband but i dont know how and i dont know if it worth the risk.
3)should i download cm10 do you think it will improve my battery life and my system preformance?
and again thank you for your help
Sent from my GT-I9100T using xda app-developers app

1. difference is file structure and the fact that tmobile operates on the 1700 band instead of the 1900 band.
2. click on download and install recommend ril, it will install the proper files. you do not need to touch or change anything else.
3. before downloading cm10 check to see if tmobile is supported. if you make a mistake especially where the basdeband is concerned, you phone will not operate properly.

1. Not correct. The I9100T is not the T-mobile USA version. It is, in fact, nearly identical to the I9100, but differs only in SAR values, so I9100T modems tend to work better than I9100 modems. But otherwise, receives the same frequencies.
3. Again, I9100T is not the T-mobile version. As above, it receives the same frequencies as the I9100, so it also does not get 3/4g on T-mobile USA's network, unless that market has had the 1900mhz frequency refarmed to carry high speed data.
The T-mobile Galaxy S2 is the SGH-T989.
The GT-I9100T is sold internationally, mostly in Australia and Asia, from what I understand.

i already downloaded and installed the ril and it is still saying that there is bo match.
abd about the 9100T basicly everything that work on 9100 should work on the t version right?
and again thanks for the help

Yes. But you may need to flash a modem meant for the i9100T afterwards to get good signal.

[Stock ROM] (H3G) Three UK 2.3.6 for ODIN

Thanks to 'cascader' I have used a program to extract the Stock ROM for our Three UK Galaxy Aces. Thanks again 'cascader'!
The zip file contains:
Cooper_v1.0.ops - Partition table etc. for the Ace ONLY
SS5570_Odin_Multi_Downloader_v4.38.exe - Odin 4.38 - To flash the firmware
S5830XWKT5_S5830H3GKT3_S5830NEKT2_HOME.tar.md5 - The firmware
SS_DL.dll - This file is used ONLY by Kies so is un-needed
This is a ONEPACKAGE file meaning you only need the cooper.ops file and the firmware to flash. If you do not know what you are doing - http://lmgtfy.com/?q=galaxy+ace+odin+onepackage+flash or http://yagyagaire.blogspot.com/2012/01/how-to-flash-official-stock-firmwares.html
Download link:

I accept no responsibility for bricked phones. Thanks!
Jamie.
will i need to convert filesystem back from ext 4 or will flashing do this?
my phone was on O2 but after failed attempts at finding the firmware for it, i just stuck an unbranded stock from asia on there...works wonders
It has to be flashed by ODIN @PJ147 Use the included files for ODIN and the instructions from either link
@King Kaze - I was using UK XEU but it was only 2.3.3, This is 2.3.6 and includes Three's network tweaks which makes my 2G roaming a bit better, but completely useless still. I have to wait 2 minutes for 0.facebook.com to load on Opera! If I use Opera on any other phone on 2G m.facebook.com loads quickly. I'm thinking it's Three restricting how fast things can download/tx-rx on 2G, Their websites load alright in seconds... I asked them about this and they denied that they restrict speeds on 2G which makes me laugh.
0.facebook should load faster than all the other facebook sites because it barely has anything
Yeah, It should but Three restrict my 2G speed so it loads really slowly :L

Is this stock rom rooted? And if so, how do you go about unrooting it?
is better than DDKQ8?
@Swiftkilla - I don't know sorry, I regrettably got rid of the phone after I posted this so I didn't check
@kevo02 I don't recommend it for you. I see you're from Costa Rica and on 'ICE' - This rom is made by Three UK so I only recommend it on Three's phones. Sorry!
Note: I won't be checking this thread much, I don't really come on XDA and I sold my Galaxy Ace back in February I will still help though if you need anything
HI I tried doing everything like you said. It wont register on 3 network and when u dial it says mobile network unavailable, any advice would be good

Are you able to tell me which firmware you used? I'm like you and cannot seem to find any o2 firmwares anywhere on the internet, even though they are listed on their own website!
Is your IMEI still present? *#06# from dialer, should be 15/16 digit number

I know this thread is a little dusty, but the contents still apply . When I go to start the flashing in odin, it comes up saying "Please connect phones!!".
I have the latest Sammy USB drivers at hand and I'll try it again once installed, but in the mean time, have anybody else faced a similar issue?
I'm coming from this ROM
Thanks in advance

Quick question about rooting

Just about to dive right into the deep end and root my device.
Got everything prepared, have downloaded Chainfires CF-Root and am on a FW that is rootable (or i hope it is). Now heres the question, does it matter what version of Odin i use? I have Odin 3 v3.04 which ive used to flash an unbranded firmware to my phone which worked perfectly but in the thread about CF-Root there is a link to Odin 3 v1.85.
If i do use v3.04 rather than the other (older?) version would/could it cause a problem?

Cheers, went ahead with v1.85 and root was a success!
I always have better luck with v1.85. ODIN 3 seems to hang up and give loading errors often.
Hello Galaxy S III pros,
I am coming from my beloved HTC Desire (root & s-off) and own my I9300T since a few weeks now. Thinking about rooting my phone due to 3 main reasons:
1) Backup via Titanium
2) Modem / Radio upgrade possibility, currently I am on AIS which is using 900 MHz, whereas the I9300T should be optimized for 850MHz, getting 3G, H+ connections though, but shaky
3) Connect PS3 controller via Bluetooth
After some reading and studying I would like to confirm my understanding of rooting etc. due to the fact that Samsung is new to me:
1) Root using Odin & CF-Root
2) Backup Backup Backup & download original I9300T ROM from sammobile (the one for Thailand, version I9300TDULF2), hence will have one backup of my current system + one clean backup with original Samsung ROM
3) As I understand, I am able to also use I9300 ROMs which in addition will give me the option to select a radio that is not only optimized for 850Mhz, hence I would flash the official ROM from sammobile for the I9300 model for Thailand
4) Flash radio for I9300 Thailand version
5) done
Please let me know if above process is correct of if I miss anything (e.g. do I have to re-partition, create any ext3 or 4s?). In addition at the moment I do not 100% see the benefits of custom ROMs yet (at least not in such an extend as for the HTC Desire lately), but please correct me if I am wrong.
Thanks!

Hi Chris I have the same phone with AIS - I'm really kind of a moron when it comes to this stuff and I somehow managed to hard-brick it with my first attempt at flashing a ROM using the Galaxy S3 Toolkit (no idea what went wrong). The Service Center at MBK were brilliant and fixed it free of charge but it took a painful week. I paid one of the guys with a stall in MBK 800 bt to root it and he did a top job so it's all rooted with SuperSU / Busybox / CWM / Mobile ODIN but it's at this point where I get lost with ROMs and kernels and partitions and all the various loading apps and my brain is bricked.
I wanted to ask you for an update if you don't mind; did you get much improvement on 3G / H+? I'm not disappointed with the AIS 899 unlimited plan (my friends have DTAC & True and I'm certain AIS is the fastest) but one gets the feeling it could be a LOT faster. Your post was the first I read about potential to optimise the connection.
cheers

[Q] Bought an used phone and don´t know what root.

Hi guys I am kind of new to this forum and really like all the website with so much information !
I am turning to you because because my friend wanted to buy an SGS 2 and bought one from some random guy whom he has no contact with.
The problem is now that the phone seems to be rooted because there is an yellow triangle that follows in the start up. I wonder if anyone knows how to see what kind of room is installed on the phone? I ask this because because the phone has been unlocked with the simunlock app but
the network connection is so bad, I´ve managed to make 1-2 calls to see that the phone works but i get max 1/5 bars in the connection barometer.
This made me think that maybe the root is bad performed by the guy that did flash the device from the begining.
If you guys have any kind of tweaks or ideas what to do I would really appreciate it.
I gathered some information that might help. This is taken from t he status menu in the galaxy S2.
Would it maybe help to restore everything to stock?

Sorry I choose the wrong section for my thread. Thanks to the MOD that moved it to the right one.
Root has no impact on signal strength.
But if you want to revert to stock, just download original firmware from http://sammobile.com/firmware, unpack and flash via Odin in PDA.

The ROM you use has no effect on your signal strength. The modem however, does. So you can try flashing a new modem if you're fine with the ROM besides the signal problems. ie.the UI, features offered, etc. Else you can flash your stock firmware for your region and that would solve your problem

Thanks a lot for the answers ! I´ve already tried to switch to gsm mode, dosn´t get any better. I will try to flash to a different modem but I have a few questions. Does it matter wich modem is current on my phone before i flash to another?
And if someone could point me in the right direction about wich modem I should use for my region, I live in sweden and use a swedish sim card and operator.

No.
For Sweden I think it will be I9100XXLQ6.
If you got the phone from a totally unknown person, i would suggest to revert it back to complete stock, and then start making all the changes you want from scratch, just to be 100% safe.
I agree i´ll flash everything back to stock and start from the begining, I think it´s the best way. But 19100XXLQ6 is the modem that my phone says I have, does that mean that I´am on stock baseband?`Otherwise if someone could show me a link or something for a step to step guide of how to restore everything back to stock.
Thanks a lot for your help guys !
Look backup your efs folder before you start pissi g about with stuff.
Then go to that link and get a 4.0.3 stock firmware for your region.
Then come back here and you can be advised about like siyah kernel/nand backups/roms.

Help with Modem on GS3 I9300 (VodafoneAU)

Hi, I'm fairly new to the scene, played around with a few mods and love it. My question today is how to install the correct modem on my GS3. My current ROM I have is UltimaROM on XXELL5 but I believe that to have the best possible performing 3g and WiFi experience on my smartphone I should be running the latest Vodafone modem as this is my carrier. I believe the latest is I9300TDUDLJ2. AFTER running the .zip file from my GS3 I run getril to confirm baseband and ril match, but I get the message 'ril unknown' there is no known rail to update through the app. Can anyone please point me in the right direction or advise me what I'm doing wrong or what I should be doing? Do I run with the modem that came with the ROM? Its just that I get poor 3g performance where ever I go :banghead:
Cheers and Happy New Year from Australia

I really don't know much about getril and stuff... lol
But I do know that installing a Custom ROM won't change your Modem
So you have the same Modem as you did when you had Stock ROM
This is normal, no worries. You will get the correct RIL as soon as GetRIL will be updated.
You should try Pimp my Rom from the Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androguide.pimp.my.rom&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5hbmRyb2d1aWRlLnBpbXAubXkucm9tIl0.. It helps to improve the performance of your phone with several tweaks.
You can also extract the modem from the last Vodafone Rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705650

I don't believe that's true. It depends on the custom rom you're flashing - some include the modem, others not.
To OP: the modem has nothing to do with wifi. I'd recommend asking/reading in the Australian thread (in the general sub-section) for the ril/modem. If you've flashed it though, just check under settings, about phone and then baseband version.

I think the database of GetRIL doesn't include it. Maybe the developer isn't focusing his work on carrier's modem right now, but don't worry everything is normal. Thanks to him by the way.
You're welcome, glad to help. How is your data connection working now? I hope fine...
Hey anmar yeah data connection is much better now, although will I not have stability issues if unknown rail is not rectified? Doesn't ril communicate software with hardware?

One thing I have noticed is that my 3g now changes between 2g-3g quite often?? Is it OK to use the modem that comes with ultimarom in Australia or do I need to use my carrier specific modem, or is there anything else that you would recommend? Will this be rectified once ril is updated?
Thanks a million in advance.

From what I know, you can use any modem both from the I9300 and I9300T. However I can't tell you which one will be better for you. Try some modems and see which one suites you the best. I recommend you to try some tweaks from the Pimp my Rom app from the Google Play. I got some noticeable improvment with it.

Ignore ril for now if u phone working good theres no problem, ril is the radio integration layer by the way, in my opinion anything vodafone touches is usually second rate they really know very little about smartphone technology they just sell it, your s3 as far as i know has a multi band radio (5 band) that can self optimise to available signal, in vodafails case its 850mhz gsm which is oz standard. Do you have the correct network settings and correct modem for your network .
Many roms suggest you have not read the stickied basics yet .

Maybe its your carrier that either does not support 3g, or u simply cant get 3g comnection from where u live in cause the company u use doesnt push 3g all the way to your area(happens if you live in a place where not many other people live, or far away from town centres and stuff).
Remember to check the options in the more info(right below bluwtooth and data usage in stock rom) insinde the phone settings

I thought i didnt work in jelly bean
Have u tried some other roms or flashing a fresh stock one? It is known that upgrading the stock roms often causes stupid troubles...
It might also be a problem with your modem...anyhow 3g is not that necessary the way i see it (unless u need it for browsing the web)

i upgraded with odin , i try format system, data & cache then flash rom ,, same issue.
3g is not Important in all country except syria, u need 3g when electricity turn off, and to use it in any palace not in closed place like WI-Fi
R: [Q] 3G doesn't work in jellyBean
Damn...i heard u guys in syria are having a really bad time, this stuff must be frustrating.
Well there may be a couple of options:
1)in syria there have been some problems and 3g is not getting really well to ur area anymore
2)your rom is unstable or just stupid(in this case i suggest flashing a good custom rom)
3)youflashing processes may have lead you to flash a rom meant for a nother regional residence(either the stock one u flashed through odin, or something else u flashed), in this case the "modem" of your phone(it's the kinda way your phone gets cellular data...kinda like an antenna kernel but i have no idea what it is just that it controls your antenna receiving/sending connections) might be wrong. Different modems exist according to where u live (or what operator u use i think as well). Try going on the web and looking for a modem that works in syria and try putting it back onto ur phone(i dont know how, look for it on google).

look bro, i try all solutions before post the thread, i downloaded all rom from sammobile.com but no one worked
can a kernel solve this problem?? or flash another rom like cyanogenmod???
R: [Q] 3G doesn't work in jellyBean
Have you tried a different modem?
To answer your qustions in order:
Not probably and yes.
Try a new rom and a new kernel, it wont hurt....u gotta try to work your way with the phone man, forget stock...even though im not sure how your problem might have been caused....

yes i tried, but no (H↓↑ or 3G↓↑) show in statusbar
i want flash stock rom, but no problem if i flash another kernel ,, do u have any link for a good kernel?? battery life is important for me (u know why :angel:Syria:angel
R: [Q] 3G doesn't work in jellyBean
Good kernel: http://www.gokhanmoral.com/
If u flash i through odin get the tar version, if not and u flash it thru recovery get cwm package. Be sure to get the one for galaxy s3. About battery usage...im not sure...because i have a 2800 battery i got off ebay and it makes my phone last a whole lot longer, if u have battery problems in syria (like the power being shut down for a couple of hourse at times) u should get yourself a battery like this as well, it doesnt cost much.
Plus getting a custom rom is best, i wouldnt cound on kernel fixing your problems too much, give rootbox or jellybam a try. Or cyanogen if u wish but i dont thinks its very stable yet.
Also it is smart to get the latest version of your clockworkmod recovery, to do so download off the store the official app called "rom manager", u can use ut to update the recovery.

Yeah i had a feeling you werent but i like to give out detailed explanations of my reasonments just in case...the habit i guess of helping out many of my noob friends with their phones...
and the english is not a problem im italian myself, i dont speak perfect english either
But abkut the rom: if ure sure cyanogen works with 3g try it...
I dont like it either so even though im still on stock ive been doing some research and ive come to the conclusion the best choiche for me would probably be jellybam. A good rom is foxhound(but it is heavy on features) or rootbox(not sure if fully developed yet...).
give jellybam a try just in case.
I dont have many more ideas to help you with your problem as you seem pretty self-conscient of how to flash stuff...i hope someone else can help you, but if i were u i would try flashing some roms and messing around a bit with the connectikn method for data inside rom preferences. U could also try looking in some syrian forums if this is a known problem with galaxy s3 in syria.....

syrian forums? hahaha if any syrian have this issue he won't solve it, and i see xda is the best fourm in the world
the problem is: the phone is not to me, and his owner doesn't like any rom except stock rom
R: [Q] 3G doesn't work in jellyBean
Aaahhhhh the phone isnt yours...damn that makes it even more difficult to fix the problem, even more so if you know it used to work before, but when u changed rom (or put th same one but with odin) it stopped working. That practically means u HAVE to change rom to make it work.....well try flashing stock rom for rooted devices from somewhere else but its gonna be difficult sorting this out if the owner wont cooperate.
I seriously doubt kernel will make some sort of magical changes...

i think if i flash a stock rom from 4 files, the problem will solved
