Make your life easy. Download 4ext from the market heres the thread for it also. Open it... and select s=on (im assuming you are s=on otherwise kernels flash automatically with the rom. flash 4ext recovery from the app. Reboot recovery. In recovery, go to settings and enable "smartflash."
Now the kernel will flash when you flash the Rom. It may reboot once right after the htc splash screen... then the rom will boot.

Boot into bootloader. It will tell you if s=on or off. If s=on, while in recovery, go to settings and enable smartflash and flash away.
If s=off... just flash away. Either way... no need to download a kernel

I'm trying to s-off because I feel more secured to flash kernels without thinking (if) it gonna work so my question is that after I s-off do I have to flash an hboot or recovery since I already have a recovery

Trust me, after getting S-Off, flashing a recovery/hboot is the least of your worries. Generally, it will flash j-bear hboot so you're good. As for recovery, you do need to flash one.
Correct me if i'm wrong though.
I figured cuz I'm trying to do his steps n I was just wandering if it kinda starting fresh again u know after s-off get recovery ,root it , n go from there n the program doesn't come with an hboot so imma use a ph185.img n then flash 4ext

You shouldn't have to flash one, but once the process is complete, try rebooting into recovery to see if your custom recovery is still there, it usually is.

ok my phone is s-on on hboot 1.90.0008 and it has an unlocked bootloader with 4ext recovery.
i tryed going back to stock with ruu (videotron) but it fails
i tryed changing roms and its just stuck on a bootloop. so far i tryed 3 different roms with no luck
i dont know what to do
any help will be appreciated
thx
Make sure your RUU is properly named and put it on the root of your SD card.
Lock your bootloader by adb command "OEM LOCK" From your pc's command prompt. This will lock your bootloader (and will erase everything)
When you reboot to your bootloader, it will scan for your ph85img.zip (I think I remember thats what its called... its been a while) and it will flash the update.
Hope this helps... if not... I recommend http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679486 this thread. Goodnight

Incorrect info by GS3G. Since you are S-On, you can't downgrade to the Gingerbread RUU. You need to have S-Off so you can downgrade to the GB RUU

"Enable smartflash" while in recovery's settings menu. Your kernel isnt flashing and that causes the bootloop

Have you ever successfully ran an ICS ROM on the phone before? What ROM were you on BEFORE this happened?
Yea i had ics rom from the guy i bought it from and it worked. the 4ext recovery was also installed but idk what rom it was. i asked him like 2 hours ago ill see what he response back and tell you but if it was running a custom rom with ics i cant see why it wouldnt run another...
All i did when it was working was wipe data and dalvik then installed energy rom 8.1 then flashed the boot.img with pc
Did i do something wrong?

I have a thunderbolt s-on radio 1.49 I'm running a sense 3.0 ROM at the moment with cwm I've been wanting to try the bliss ROM soab but everytime I install I get stuck at the boot screen then just starts over but never booting into the Rom. I'm a experienced user been toying around since 2007 so if u can help me out let me know thanks
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda app-developers app
I bet you that the Rom you are trying to flash has a different kernel and that is why it is bootlooping. You need to flash the stock kernel or try using 4ext. It has an s on flashing tool.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
Ok that sounds right can u point me to the right place to get the stock kernel ?
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda app-developers app
What if I boot into recovery useing comand prompt
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda app-developers app
Won't make a difference if you boot using a command prompt. If the Rom has an aftermarket kernel it won't boot for your device because it will be unable to flash the custom kernel since you're s on. It can however be done you just have to go about it a different way. I do.t know how to do it that way though but there are guides. I would try getting s off honestly. It's easy to do.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
definitely flash back to stock rom and get s-off it makes things so much easier
Yea it does thanks u guys I flashed back to stock from hboot then used the thunderbolt tool gained s off then flashed recovery wiped then installed booted right up thanks for your help

Haven't had a problem on that Rom, I'm using it now, for the past 3 days
Are you using 4ext?
Make sure smartflash is on
Or try and flash another kernel, use flash image GUI if possible, since you are s on its your best choice

I am getting this issue on NegaLite r109 but I didn't on r108. How do I enable Smart Flash. I'm using TWRP
I think twrp has a feature called dumbblock, but I don't know, just remember something along those lines.
Smartflash is a feature of 4ext recovery.
If you haven't tried it yet, you should.
Actually I think Butterz recommends you use 4ext to flash that Rom (that's how you get the add-ons)
If I remember right all you need to do is install the 4ext app, and you can flash recovery through the app.
If you have issues, I have the recovery.img file in my db. If you want it, pm me.

Hi everyone,
I'm currently on Viper Amaze 1.7.0.2 and I'd like to know how to revert back to stock ICS. My phone is on tmobile, s-on, unlocked bootloader, hboot 1.93.0002 and 4ext recovery. I want to go back to stock ICS because I need wifi calling. I found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1617644 but not sure which file to download and what to do with it. Thank you.

I dunno why all of you get this.. Its cuz your boot.img didn't flash.. Do like this flash the Rom and reboot into the recovery again then a small pop up will come saying turn on smart flash bla bla say yes and give it 10 sec and reboot your phone.. I kinda remember something like that
